If my rig is capable to cooperate with SSD

Q: If my rig is capable to cooperate with SSD

Hi guys, i got quite aged pc specs:
intel core 2 duo e7400 2,8 oc @3.8
6GB RAM 2x dual channel (2x2GB i 2x1GB)
GF9800 GT

I was wondering if changing my hdd barracuda on any kind of SSD would at least maintain my performance, not thinking about boosting it. I mean stuff like fps drops and so on. Would it work in any possible way with my PC ? If yes can someone reccomend me some SSD ? Only thing i know is to be aware of IOPS stat of a SSD disk am I right ? Thanks in advance! cheers

Preferred Solution: If my rig is capable to cooperate with SSD

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: If my rig is capable to cooperate with SSD

I don't game, but as far as I know an SSD will only improve game loading times and isn't likely to have much effect on gaming performance or fps.

You are being held back by your video card and CPU.

This might be a really stupid question. I'm helping a friend replace his discontinued motherboard, but he's unable to tell me the CPU it used, aside from the socket (LGA775).

His original mobo was this

The closest match I could find was this

The latter is a bit updated, but it doesn't support hyperthreading.

The only info he could give me was that it was a Intel Dual Core 1.8 ghz, but that makes it either a Pentium D 1.8ghz or a core 2 duo 1.8 ghz. Pretty sure Core2 duo doesn't support HT, but I belive some Pentium D did. If his CPU is indeed a HT capable Pentium D, will it still function on the latter MoBo, despite the fact that the Mobo is lacking in terms of HT support?

A:Hyperthread-capable CPU, but Non-capable Motherboard

The latter supports all, and more, CPUs that the original one does:
vs http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Support/CPU_Support_Model.aspx?detailid=858&MenuID=69&LanID=0
He'll have no trouble running the CPU. Except for having a craptastic ECS motherboard but that's no news for them.

I'm using WinXP Home. I have all the IME installed for inputting and reading the korean language. These IME's work np in firefox and in MS Word but when I go to IE, even though I have the IME set to korean, when I type it still comes out in english. I've tried manually switching the encoding in IE but that doesn't help. I'm a Canadian living in Korea and so my OS is English but I need to use some korean sites. I use Firefox mostly because it is superior to IE but unfortunately most korean websites that require secure logons such as eshop sites, don't properly support the firefox format leaving me no choice but to use IE. What is going on here. Why does Microsucks always have to make things more complicated than they need to be?

I have an HP Laserjet 1000. Ever time I start my computer my printer lights come on and it runs for a second to initialize. For a while now when the printer tries to initialize the printer icon in the lower right corner shows a red question mark and when I open the document manager it says "firmwaredownload, status error". Most of the time after sitting for a second it some how goes through and warms up as normal, but every once and a while, like this time, it continues to show this error. When I go to print anything it won't print. I have tried reinstalling the printer, following the directions to the letter, with no luck. I have the latest updates from HP and it claims to work with XP. Can anyone figure this out. Thanks for any help.

A:Printer won't cooperate with XP

Do the status lights on the printer itself show anything?

Such as both coming on and staying on at the same time and not going out or taking a long time to go out?

Or does the top blink while the bottom one is out?

That sort of thing. Sometimes with the smaller laserjets, you can get an idea from the lights.

BTW, if both are burning bright and steady, get out your manual and call HP Service and Support. This indicates a hardware failure in the printer.

This is a strange issue. Windows does not stretch (for a lack of a better word) to the width of the screen (19" Dell). Okay first I have a Prolink Hurricane 9200. This is where I connect my phoneline, and the line to my PC. Recently I bought a laptop with wifi. So I had to buy a new router that allowed wi-fi, a linksys WRK 54G. To my surprise there isn't any slot for my phoneline (which i think is where i get my internet connection). So anyway i've decided that i should connect my prolink to my linksys (instead of the pc) and from there connect it to my pc. Okay seemed simple at first problem is how do i do that and all these settings are confusing me?

Oh and i found out that if I connected my prolink to one to slot 1 of my link sys (instead of the internet slot, which i think is the proper way of going at it) and then my pc to the slot of my linksys, i could use the internet without messing with any settings. Still i know thats wrong.

Okay, fine so far. How do i set-up the wireless to my laptop? Do i have to use the notebook adapter considering my laptop has an integrated wifi? Can't i just use that? So uhm... a recap so i don't confuse you people who are trying to help me
What I want to do:
Internet(phoneline) > Prolink > Linksys > by wire to my PC and by wireless to my laptop.

Please help. And thanks in advance

I have one computer running vista home premium, that won't work right with the rest of my LAN. It connects to the internet just fine though. The other computers in the network are functioning normally

It wont:
-Share music in itunes with other computers or iphone anymore
-Share music with xbox360 or ps3 anymore
-Share files to or from any mac or pc anymore

What I've tried:
-swapping router out for old router
-resetting router
-disabled windows and avast firewall "temporarily"
-reinstalled itunes and checked preferences
-turned on all sharing in "network sharing center"
-updated network card driver
-it's not in a domain

I can't pin point exactly when it happened, so I don't know what changed. I just know it was bad.

On Windows 7 I have installed Firefox, and Java is highly uncooperative.

Every time I access a Java application with Firefox, all I get is a black screen. The applets don't even load.

I access these same sites using Opera and everything is fine. But with Firefox, all I get is a black screen.

I could use Opera for everything Java but that's inconvenient and I would like to use Java on Firefox.

What could be responsible for this? I do have Ad-Block Plus installed as an add-on but I doubt it would be the reason behind blocking all Java applications with a black screen. I have also tried clearing cookies, but this does nothing and all Java applications continue to be blacked out.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Ok, so my dad and I have been working on this problem for a few weeks now with no success. I am trying to install Star Trek: Armada 2 on my Windows XP desktop computer. I insert the CD, and the install dialog box for the game pops up. I click "Install", and a few seconds later the box disappears. Then a tiny box pops up on the screen saying "Installshield DemoShield," then goes away. The hourglass symbol on my mouse pointer appears for a few seconds, then goes away as well. Then nothing else happens. It's like my computer just gave up and canceled the install without telling me. No error messages, no asking me to abort or continue my installation. Just nothing.
My brother has the exact same computer as I do, and the game installs fine on it. It isn't my CD drive because it will load other games and CD's just fine.
I tried following several instructions that I found on websites, such as deleting the InstallShield engine and reinstalling it, or finding the version number of the setup file for the game, (the first number being 6), then download and install the Ikernelupdate. The only other thing I haven't tried is using the windows xp disc, but I wanted to see if there was any other options that any of you could suggest before I did that. So, what do you think I could do?

Hey guys

A few days ago I bought myself Sony MDR-ZX660 headphones. They have a built-in mic and it uses a single combo jacket for the whole thing. When I connect it to my computer, the mic won't work.
My audio driver is Realtek HD Audio (
I can retask the connector to Mic in or Line in, both of which seem to enable the mic, but then there's no sound output.
I've tried front and rear connectors, no effect (plus I need it to work with the front jack anyway, since the cord is pretty short).
I've mucked around with every setting I could find in the Realtek Audio Manager.
When I connect the headset, it appears under Playback Devices, but not under Recording Devices, unless I retask it to Mic in/Line in, in which case it's the opposite.
It works fine in a laptop, both mic and headphones worked fine, together.
I've googled it quite a bit and I can only find the exact opposite problem, where people can't get 2 jack headsets working with the combo jack, but no one else seems to have problems with getting a combo jack headset working.

I also have another issue with my laptop and while that isn't a hardware issue, I don't feel like making a new thread just for that. Basically it has this Conexant audio driver that it came with, which has such a terrible sound quality that it makes listening to anything a horrible experience. The Windows default driver works much better, however the Conexant one keeps coming back no matter what I... Read more

My family and I went off for a little vacation, when we came back our cable internet worked fine on one of our computers, but the other computer on the network refused to connect.

We got the problem (sort of) resolved when we called tech support who said that they had changed the network names of the computers at their end, without our knowing. Hello, I was just wondering if my PC can handle 64-bit version of windows. My friend has been forcing me to switch from 32 to 64 but I'm a little bit worried because I have only 2gb of ram. Any suggestions? Should I go for 64-bit without upgrading my ram or stay with 32-bit? Your answers will be highly appreciated, thanks in advance By the way, I attached my pc specs for your reference.

A:64-bit Capable?!

Unless you plan to install 4GB or more of RAM, moving to 64-bit will not buy you anything. 2GB is the MINIMUM amount of RAM for 64-bit Win 7.

If you look at the screenshot you posted of your system info, at the bottom of the System section, it tells you that the system is 64-bit capable.

If I were to upgrade something on your system, the first thing I would upgrade would be your video card.

I bought a D630 and when downloading drivers, I notice theres x64 drivers listed so how would I know its capable of using xp or vista x64? Would I notice better performance on it?

A:How do you know if its capable of x64?

They will only work if you have a 64-bit operating system installed. It's likely you only have 32-bit but right click my computer and go properties, should tell you if its 32 or 64 there, at least in Vista it does. 64-bit drivers are only for 64-bit so they're made to support that type of system, just as 32-bit are made for 32-bit. For the most part, those drivers aren't going to offer any form of speed difference, they're just drivers to run on that type of system as 32-bit won't work. How ever as a whole, 64-bit has better memory utiliisation and speed improvements, etc.

A:Capable PC?

I looked up that graphics processor and it looks like a competitive unit. Capable.26.5 GB/sec.Bandwidth. Your ram memory is a good speed (667mhz) but try to raise that to two gigs. It will give your gaming more headroom. I'm not real familiar with the T7250 but 800 mhz FSB, &4 MB of cache will game O.K. 2 cores of 2.0GHZ won't burn the trail but it should keep up. I noticed that the 'Raptor' series offers 7200 RPM hard drives. And that 2 Gigs of Ram = $90. Also comes in a 2.4 GHZ core 2. Good Luck.

I have a desktop that uses an Asus Z87 mobo. It is wireless capable (has an antenna you connect via two tiny cable connection to the back of the case). I have not used the wireless capability at all in the 4 years I've had the computer. I instead use an Ethernet cable direct connection between router and computer. Recently, the signal strength of that "hard-wired" connection dropped from 5 bars to 1, so something has gone very wrong. I swapped out the Comcast Gateway modem/router for a new one, but it made no difference. So today I disconnected the Ethernet cable, set up the wireless connection.

Since I am no longer using a wired connection, I expected to see only 3-4 bars of signal strength. To my delight, I'm getting 5!!! Great. . . but I haven't answered a basic question about why the Ethernet connection is all but unusable. Is it (a) because the Ethernet cable, which is 50' long and at least 10 years old, has developed a break, or (b) my LAN card is failing? Before I buy a new cable, I'd like to be sure that's the problem, not the LAN card. So my question is, does the wireless antenna connect to the LAN card, or (like USB wireless adapters), does it send its signal to the mobo by other means? If its signal goes thru the LAN card, it means the card is working. If the LAN card is not involved, it means my Ethernet cable is the culprit.

A:Wi-fi capable motherboard

If that 50' long ethernet cable is 10 years old and has developed a break, that likely is the problem.
You'll know for sure by replacing it.

Hi, it's the old Frog here again with another situation--------

I have moved back home to care for my 93 yr old Mom. All I brought with me was my computer tower. Is it possible to connect to the internet thru her computer or modem? She has a Dell 3000 we bought her for Christmas. She's on CableOne with a Motorola SB5100 series Surfboard cable modem provided by CableOne. Can I just unplug her wires and plug them into my computer or do I have to set up some sort of network? If so, how and what do I do. I haven't done anything yet because I didn't want to screw it up.........know what I mean??

Also, if mine is hooked up I won't have the problem I'm having with her CDrom. I still haven't been able to resolve that issue yet.....short of calling out a computer repair guy and paying thru the nose.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The answer is yes. However, you likely won't benefit from it. The HP website says the computer supports a maximum of 4 GB memory (one of the main reasons people use 64 bit operating systems is because they need/want more than 4GB memory). You also may have trouble finding 64 bit drivers for the motherboard components..

A:Crysis Capable?

That wireless card is pretty old(release in 2004, discontinued in 2007), only does Wireless-G, and has no official Windows 7 support; get a modern Wireless-N card like this: http://www.ebuyer.com/263388-tp-link-tl-wn951n-wireless-n-pci-adapter-tl-wn951n

My old PC with a Core 2 Duo E6550(oc'd to 3.5Ghz) with a 512MB Geforce 8800GT could run Crysis decently, I don't see why this system wouldn't be able to do it even better. But if you do have any extra money available, moving up to the Radeon HD 6850 would be better.

The power supply is a bit on the weak side, 530 watts and from a brand I'm not really familiar with so not sure on the quality if it.

I need to upgrade my desktop PC from 32-bit to 64-bit Windows 7. From the information I have seen online it is a bit conflicting as my 'System Information' states "System Type: x86-Based PC" which as far as I am aware means it is not compatible
however 'Performance information and tools' states "64-bit capable - Yes".  Can anyone clarify this for me please before I purchase a Windows Upgrade?
Also unsure what Directx version i have as some informations states 10.1 while others state 11? any clarity appreciated.

I have setup my computer so that it can play DVD's and I started considering Dolby Digital 5.1 (DD 5.1) sound systems that have the DD 5.1 decoders in them but I'm not sure if my sound card supports the capability to send a DD 5.1 signial to the sound system. Now I don't know if a sound card needs anything special or if a coax S/PDIF or optical S/PDIF output jack is all that's necessary to send the DD 5.1 signal. The sound card I have is (I believe) manufactured by A-Trend
and it is a Harmony 3DS724A High Quality Yamaha PCI 3D Sound SONDIUS-XG Wavetable Synthesis with;

Speaker Out/Line Out
Line In
Mic In

jacks. And so my question is if I were to get a DD 5.1 sound system which had its own DD 5.1 decoder inside could my sound card send the DD 5.1 signal or would I have to purchase a special sound card for this and why?

A:Dolby Digital 5.1 capable ?

You are all set.

AC-3 is an older term for 5.1 - they are the same thing.

That quote came from A-Trend.

I have decided to build a computer for my brother. He is far from wealthy, so I am building him an affordable system. This has brought me to the use of AMD Sempron. Here is the motherboard and processor.

AMD Sempron 64 3400+ 2.0GHz 256KB Cache 1600MHz FSB Socket 754 Hyper-Transport 64-Bit (Palermo) Processor with Fan SDA3400BXBOX at TigerDirect.com
Foxconn 755A01-6EKRS ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail at Newegg.com

Here is my question. The motherboard supports "AMD Athlon 64/Sempron" processors. The Sempron processor that I am going to use is a "Sempron 64bit Hyper-Transport" processor. Because the motherboard has the ability to support AMD Athlon 64, shouldn't it be able to support the "Sempron 64" as opposed to a normal "Sempron" ??

Thanks in advance. ;]
