I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Anandani,
Dell Studio 1558 has not been tested by Dell for Windows 10 operating system you will not find drivers for it. However, please use the card reader Windows 7 driver and install it in compatibility mode.

I've seen this problem reported for other Dell machines for a year now, since Windows 10 came out, but not for my model.
Since installing Windows 10, I can't use my SD card slot to write to, format, etc. a microSD card with adaptor. I can see the drive, read the card, and transfer files from it, but when I try to write I get an error message that the disk is write protected. It isn't. The exact same cards and adaptors work fine in my son's computer, and the cards work fine in my phone.
I just updated all my drivers and it still isn't working. When will Dell finally provide a fix for this? I can't even find any indication that they're working on it.

Okay, I did something really stupid. It was late, I was in the dark, and I wasn't paying attention (obviously) so here's what happened...

I had a SanDisk 2GB Micro SD Memory Card that I was using in my cell phone.
I wanted to transfer some pics & photos from my computer to the phone, so I decided to stick it in the Express Card slot of my laptop. Simple enough, right?

....Well being the incredibly smart person that I am, I put the micro memory card in the adapter, but it was the wrong one. So my computer pretty much swallowed it whole. I can't get it back out.
Now I can't use the Express Card slot in my computer AT ALL, because the old one is still stuck in there. You can't really see it, but if you try to put another adapter in there, it won't "click". It won't go all the way because ... the old one I lost is still in there waiting to be rescued, haha.

So my question is: How do I get the memory card out of my computer??

I tried taking it apart, but I couldn't get the part of where the express card slot is, so that was no good. There's a way to do this, I know. I'm just not smart enough to figure it out on my own. Which is probably a good thing, because I might mess it up again, lol.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7416 laptop.
Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

-Ashley

I have a Toshiba A135 S7404 running Windows Vista Home Basic, the max memory upgrade is 2X2GB which I purchased via newegg.com and installed. When I turned it on, black screen and no boot up. Basically it will only reconize one 2GB of memory, doesn't matter what slot as long as it is only one. I tested both memory chips both work in the computer and in either card slot, just not both chips in both card slots. What the heck?????? Even stumped the Geek Squad guy at Best Buy, he seemed to think it the mother board issue. It runs much better on the 2GB then it did with the 512MB, cha. Computer should be able to run both 2GB card in each slot and reconize about 3.25 to 3.65 of the memory, if it would run both cards at the same time. ** I did upgrade the BIOS from 1.6 to 1.9 as most of the blogs suggested-still won't recognize the 2nd 2GB card.

I was wondering as I've got 2 spare slot Mini PCI-Express free on my laptop, if such Intel Card (ITM) could fit inside...This technology is quite not expensive actually.

The mini PCI-E is very ease to access under my keyboard and it just have to be inserted, and at system reboot, Windows7 will recognize straight that card and the proper Intel Turbo drivers.

It does act like "Windows ReadyBoost" & "Windows ReadyDrive" under 7 and Vista...so the system will load faster....boost the disk cache, load faster Apps & perform battery improvement.

Work on "Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset familly" & "Mobile Intel 4 Express Chip Familly".

-1 gb (RD, RB, no software pinning),
-2gb (RD, RB, no software pinning),
-4gb (RD, no RB, software pinning).

Any experience in return? or it is just like inserting a SD Card in the Card Reader to Ready Boost?

So in February I ordered my kid an inspiron 11 as first computer. Later I decided to upgrade the memory and I called Dell and provided my service Tag. Dell told me it had a 2GB memory card and I could upgrade to a 4GB card. I ordered the card and disassembled my computer to find there is no slot to upgrade. After an hour on the phone I find out that what I am looking at is one with a fixed memory module. I told them that per my service tag it is supposed to have a slot and be upgradeable. They told me there is nothing they can do.
So I say how bout you exchange this for one that has what I ordered. They say since its over the 30 days there is no way to return or exchange. I said even though its your fault ???
Am I being unreasonable ? All I want is what I ordered. After a few more calls to India One person finally tells me there is a first and second generation of this laptop. Ist gen has the fixed and the second has the replaceable. So I tell them that per  Dell tag  this is supposed to be 2nd generation and therefor it was built wrong. They again say " we have a 30 day no Hassel return " and your over that.
Any suggestions folks ? I'm sick of beating my head against the wall with these people

Hello All, I'm looking under the hood of my 1st gen Thinkpad X1 Carbon, and I'm trying to identify the PCIe slots.  In particular, the following page states that I should have 2 PCI Express Mini slots:  https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/pd027202 Now I see the WLAN card and the WWAN card, and my natural assumption is that these are both in PCIe ports, but on closer inspection I see that the WLAN card's slot is only 19mm wide, whereas the WWAN card is the standard 26mm width of normal PCIe Mini ports. This raises some questions:  1. Is the WLAN connected to a proprietary slot, or is this just a different type of PCIe standard?  2. If the WLAN is connected to a proprietary slot, where is my second PCIe slot? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Regards,Adam Zebrowski-az

A:Why is my WLAN card slot narrower than my WWAN card slot (PCIe mini)?

On closer inspection, it looks like my SSD connects to a similar-looking slot as my WLAN card.  I guess this means my WLAN card uses a SATA connection or something? I normally work with desktop PCs, so I'm unfamiliar with a lot of these laptop hardware standards. Regards,Adam Zebrowski-az-

This is a used Toshiba laptop I got a month ago. The previous owner said he never used the SD card slot. I know why, because it's not working. When I slide any SD card in, the light comes on for 1 second and then comes off. The card is not recognized. Needless to say, I know the cards are good because they work everywhere else, including a USB card reader I have.

I checked Device manager and I don't see a problem. I believe the SD card reader is the "USB Mass Storage Device"?

I ran troubleshooting and it found that there is a problem with PnP devices and an "unknown device doesn't have a driver". It didn't find a solution or the driver.

I went to the Toshiba site and downloaded a couple of card reader driver versions.
Can someone please tell me the sequence, I uninstall, reboot, install new driver?

Thanks!

A:SD card slot not working.

There is a program called AIDA that you can download from here:

EVEREST Ultimate Edition - PC Diagnostics | Lavalys.com

Run it and under Windows Devices look for unknown devices. Click on the unknown device and it will tell you what the device is, probably the SD Card reader. Download the drivers for it from Toshiba and install.

Hello everybody.

Since sending a motherboard in for rma is both money-sink (need to ship it to them, a replacement unit and to reinstall windows) and an excruciating wait (weeks? months?) I'd like to try absolutely everything I can before I do.

Two months ago everything was working fine, then I had to take everything to another room to paint the walls in my room. Start getting "display drivers stopped working" as I plug the unit back, this over the span of three days. Case was cleaned last month, I decide to take out gpu and clean some more. Turn outlet and psu off, as soon as I start unscrewing the dvi cable I can feel static. Unplug psu, discharge power with the case button, take 6870 out and remove that little dust there was, put it back: gpu is powered up, fan spins, permanent black screen at boot, no video signal. Take it off, hook the thing to onboard gfx: everything works fine. Try back with 6870, black screen. Go get PSU tested, it apparently works (they didn't give me a full report on load). Go back, test mobo with three different older ati (pre-amd) cards, 3x black screen. Checked bios to make sure, main adapter was on pci-e.

I had other stuff to do so I put the issue to rest for a few days while I had one of the ati cards (2600 xt) double-checked by a store. As it turns out, the 2600 xt works alright, so I decided to take the plunge and go with a z77-a motherboard to replace the asrock (very cheap and couldn't even overclock so). After ... Read more

A:Card not working in first PCI-E slot

Are you cleaning out all the old drivers before switching all these cards? that can cause a card not to work right. But the reason you are switching to on board is because the bios does not detect the card. These motherboards- if they detect a card in a pcie X16 slot automatically disable on board graphics. So, it seems if you are switching to on board, it means BIOS isn't detecting the card is installed.

This is my first post here, so be gentle on me

Since the symptoms of my problem are so specific and easy to reproduce I figured I would find the answers easily.. But after a whole evening of searching on Google, I have found nothing which can help...

I have just built my new PC using an Asus M4A78 motherboard and had surprisingly few problems.

However, today I found that I have a problem with "card readers".

I have a card reader in my printer, an internal 5 slot one (which connects directly to a USB header on the Motherboard), and I also have several external ones.

What I have found is this.

1. If I connect the Card Reader to the PC when its up and running and it works (it doesn't matter if there is a card in the slot or not).. I get the 'bing bong' noise.. The reader appears (I see the drive letter) and then when I insert a card, Windows 'mounts' it and I can view the files.

2. If I Reboot the PC whilst a reader is connected (and empty), when Windows boots I see the drive letters, but when I insert a card I get an 'egg timer' in Windows and double clicking on the card letter shows "Please Insert disk into drive X:"

3. If Boot the PC whilst a reader is connected AND there is a media card (SD, CF, etc) in the slot and it works normally.. The PC boots, the card is readable and significantly, if I can remove the card and reinsert it (or insert another card) and it mounts.

Slot was always reliable; Inserted sd card while pc was coming out of standby mode and no longer works.  Device Manager shows PCI Device not working (PCI bus 1, device 0, function 1) but has no details on driver so it can't be found to update it.  Tried disabling then reenabling the driver with no success.  Checked sd card, can still be read in camera.  Swapped different sd cards with same result.  Slot is not damaged, think it is a driver issue.

I was hoping to boot from the SD card a live linux, but it appears there may not be a way to do this?  If it's not possible, is there a way to boot from a small portion of the regular drive, then load into the sd card? Basically I don't want to have a USB slot being taken up by a drive and the SD card slot is just really convienent.

Hello. I have a Lenovo ideapad 100s - 80R2 that I just bought a few years ago. The device is running Windows 10 Home, build 1511. I have recently bought a Sandisk 32GB microSDHC card for use of the built-in microSD card slot of the device. When I tried to insert the card into the slot, there was not "Hardware Insert" notification sound coming out of Windows. I thought the card wasn't working. When I managed to insert the card into a USB microSD card reader, the system was able to detect the card, so it means it's working fine, but the microSD card isn't. I tried to find any updates for the SD card controller of the device, but it says it's already the latest version. Any help?

I have a AMD 7870 Dual slot video card on my Asus M5A99X-Evo Motherboard. It is installed in the first 16x slot...and I also have a PCI-e 1x XF-I Titanium Sound card. The problem I am having is that one of the 1x slots is covered by the video card, and the 2nd one is open, but right smack below the Video card. My Video card is the Sapphire 7870 GHz Edition non OC.. Attached is a picture of what I am trying to explain. My other question is: Will this cause issues since one of the GPU fans is semi covered? Its it recommended? Last question: If I move this to one of the 8x slots below on my motherboard, will it cause my 16x PCI-E slot to slow down? Thanks ahead of time for any help you can provide.

Computer Specs -

Asus M5A99x-Evo Motherboard (AM3+)
AMD FX 8350 8 Core (4Ghz)
Sapphire AMD Radeon 7870 GHz Edition (2GB)
8GB DDR3 1600 Kingston HyperX memory (2x 4GB)
500GB WD Black Edtion SATA HD
1TB WD Black Edtion SATA HD
Sound Blaster XF-I Titanium PCI-E 1x Sound Card
Thremaltake 750 80+ Bronze PS (Smart Series)
DVDRW (SATA)
DVD-ROM (SATA)

A:Question about PCI-e slot below dual slot video card

My opinion ...

Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter.

The motherboard has onboard sound (Realtek« ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). This would totally remove the issue.

When I populate slot2 with 512mb noname ddr1 I cannot boot into windows, BIOS comes up ok and memory tests ok. This is intermittent but now almost 90% of the time it won't boot. slot1 contains a 1GB kingston pc3200.

With no ddr in slot2 it boots ok and with a 1GB stick (corsair) it boots ok. I guess it was the noname 512MB stick but seems strange it passed all the memory tests (from ubuntu grub loader)

MB is an Asus K8S-MX

hi there,
i need to know which know which graphic card will fit for my computer. Ie i want to know which type: DDR ,DDR1 or ddr2 i bought my computer in 2007, but thats not enough to tell.
so please let me know how do i know which pci slot i have?

A:which graphic card slot do i require for my PCI slot

The type of memory doesn't matter, its the type of interface the computer supports among a few other things to watch for.

You likely have a PCI-Express slot, as long as it a x16 slot it doesn't really matter if its a version 1.1 or 2.0 slot.

Is this for your Dell or another computer? Whats you budget and what needs do you have for the video card?

They shouldn't make it so easy to refomat your SD card while it's in the camera but it happened. It's a Canon Powershot SD1100 IS.

Now, I know all about recovering things that are lost but I seem to have run into a bit of a roadbump here. The SD card does not show up when I plug it into my card reader. Okay fine, so I decided to put the card back into the camera and plug it in VIA USB to run Recuva on it via that way - sadly the only thing that shows up is "Portable Media Device" and Recuva can't see that because it doesn't have a drive letter assigned to it, BUT it doesn't show up in Disk Management EITHER.

Now, the SD slot works with my SDHC 8GB card just fine, works fine with my MicroSD adapter with my 2GB microSD card, but for some reason since this card was formatted in the camera it just doesn't want to show up under the explorer at all.. Anyone have any ideas on how to 1. Get this card to show up in explorer and then 2. Get all my pictures back?

Hello  At work my colleagues and I use a Think T470S , Model-No 20HF-003NMZ. There is a SIM card slot at the side of these notebooks, so I put in a SIM card from a Swiss provider. However, with or without a SIM, I don't see any LTE/WWAN devices in Windows listet on at least two f our T470s. So my question is, does the T470S support LTE/WWAN access? I mean, there is the SIM card slot, but as I can see from the Lenovo's shop configurator, some models do have a WWAN ready option. Does this mean I have to buy an accessory to get the WWAN working? Or is it a configuration / driver problem? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Radiofloyd

A:T470S No LTE / WWAN adapter in Windows although SIM card slot exists.

Hi Radiofloyd,Warm Greetings & welcome to Lenovo Community, happy to have you here.

Looking at your system configuration this model is WWAN ready but in order to use this feature, you need to add WWAN card to it.

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

My memory card reader does not read or downloads  SD cards. I have gone to the HJ site and I cannot find Windows 10 listed for updates for the pc as it only shows Windows 8.1 as the latest downloads for my pc. How do I get my memory card reader updated drivers in order that I can again download SD cards in the Memory Card reader?

A:Memory Card reader not working

Is THIS ONE your PC?  They have made some changes in the SD card, even though they look the same. HERE IS A DOCUMENT that might give some insight on troubleshooting.BTW: the specs for SD cards have changed and that might be the problem.  It might help for this discussion to give the info on the problem card.  An SD card - older style would be 2GB or less.  A SDHC card could be 4GB to 32GB and a SDXC could be 64GB to 2TB.  It should be identified in some manner.  The bad thing is the older card reader cannot read the newer type SD cards.  An easy and fairly inexpensive solution is to purchase an external - USB - card reader that is for all of these SD card types.

I have no idea when this stopped working, but i noticed it yesterday when i went to use it.
The device manager detects a 'unknown device' in the USB controllers list and gives this report 'Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)'

The first thing I'd try is updating that particular driver. If no help, I'd delete the driver and let windows discover the device again.

I have a Gateway ML6732 running Windows Vista and recently my memory card reader won't recognize anything. It used to work beautifully, and I don't know what's wrong with it now. Does anybody know what drivers would be associated with it? I've checked my device manager and I have a yellow exclamation mark next to my SCSI/RAID Host Controller. I don't know if that has anything to do with my memory card reader, but I can't find an update anywhere. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A:Memory Card Reader Not Working?

Right click the yellow exclamation mark and update your drivers if the device manager is unable to update drivers which is not often . Then you can go to your own computers website and download all drivers needed put in make, model number and operating system of your computer
