Why does Lenovo bundle so many apps on their new machines?

Q: Why does Lenovo bundle so many apps on their new machines?

I bought a Lenovo Z70 17.3" Laptop recently. I found so many apps
that they have placed on my machine and I am looking to see which
ones I need to keep and ones that I can kill off.

If anyone has had any experience with these apps I would be very
grateful for your comments. These are the apps that are resident on
my Laptop:-

LENOVO PhotoMaster (This one I uninstalled as it crashed my machine when I clicked on it)
LENOVO Bluetooth with enhanced data rate software
LENOVO Dependancy Package
LENOVO Easy camera
LENOVO Fusion engine
LENOVO Wireless phone wireless import
LENOVO One key recovery
LENOVO Phone companion
LENOVO Power DVD10
LENOVO Setting Dependancy package
LENOVO ShareIT
LENOVO Web start
LENOVO_Wireless_driver

No doubt they are taking up valuable disk space.

Thanks guys.
Pete

Preferred Solution: Why does Lenovo bundle so many apps on their new machines?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

it's about a month or so that I have this new lenovo machine that come with Pokki installed...is this fancy little icon that makes windows 8/8.1 look like the start button in windows 7.

At first I thought it's really handy, lots of features like the start button even something better I'd say.

Then all at once from one day to the other I started getting some improbable ads on pages where they were not supposed to be....for the first couple of times didn't pay much attention to be honest.

But when this happened (see screenshot!) That was smelling really like bad rotten fish!!!

So I came straight away here on bleeping to find out more...and nothing. I downloaded the ADW Cleaner to give it a go and here you go it turns out this is the culprit!

After a quick browsing on pokki I also found out the following:

http://botcrawl.com/how-to-remove-the-pokki-virus/

Strange enough I have MBAM premium version which did not detect any of its activity.
And strange enough the program does not show on the list of installed program in the control panel.

I wonder how it's possible Lenovo partner with such a scam?! I am speechless!!

I'd like to hear some comment from the expert. Will it be enough clearing this with ADW Cleaner?!

Thank you in advance.

I am requiring Virtual Machines but it seems like all my vm's are not receiving internet access. Any ideas on how to correct this?

A:Lenovo Yoga 720 and virtual Machines

Understand that the virtual machine is separate from your computer, or tries to be. When you're on the virtual machine, try connecting to the internet from inside the virtual machine. If that's not working, the VM software or VM image itself doesn't support it.

I see a number of posts here running into the same issue -- poor performance when the various Yoga models are put into non-laptop configurations (tablet, stand, tent). It's pretty clear that the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework is the culprit. DPTF throttles the machine back too aggressively, to the point where it becomes unusable with video, games, external monitors, etc. Disabling it in the BIOS fixes the problem, but some questions remain. I  did not observe this happening under Win8.0; I only saw it after my update to 8.1. However, there is an updated DPTF in the support section specifically for 8.1. So, what gives Lenovo? -- What are you trying to do with DPTF in these non-laptop modes?-- Is it a problem for us to disable DPTF in the BIOS while you sort it out?-- When can we expect a new DPTF that resolves the issues?

A:Hey Lenovo, what's up with DPTF & Yoga machines?

I'd like to know this as well.  I'm been holding off disabling the DPTF until people who have done it report an all-clear in terms of hiccups or other issues that it may cause. I'd much prefer an official response from Lenovo (long shot, I'm sure).

Hi,

First of all, sorry for my english, i'm not a native speaker.

we have 6 machines Lenovo e73 with random BSOD. Some of them crash while beeing idle, some of them just signing into windows, some of them only when network is attached.

Also we have more Lenovo products like lenovo e70 with the same configuration, same programs and same domain and they are not crashing.

We are making tests reinstalling Windows 7 64 bit SP1, and in some of them have noticed that until we don't connect them to the internet they doesn't splash the Blue screen.

Also we're thinking about the possibility that Nod32 version 8 is the responsable of this problem, last tests are making that the computer without the nod32 antivirus seems stable.

We have tested reinstalling old and new drivers for the ethernet from official support page of lenovo... Problem remains.

Running hotfix doesn't fix the problem (solution from here Blue Screen Error 0x0000003b [Solved] - 9800gt - Windows 7 )

Lenovo has some memtest programs accessing via F8 while it is booting, running the problems it says there is a problem with the Hard Drive, and when we run the check and repair option it says that there are no problems with the disk.

also running chkdsk /f or /r ... Doesn't work also.

Solutions like removing the rams and putting them again were worthless for us.

Running the machines from a Live Usb with Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04 works perfect.

I have attached two .zip files with the results ... Read more

I don't have time to look at all the files, but ESET Nod32 is flagged as an issue. The only suggestion I can give you is to replace it on all machines with MSE (as a test) and see if the systems stay stable.

Hello,

I have a workgroup set up with about 10 computers: 6 running windows 7, and 4 running windows XP. This morning out of nowhere, the XP computers can't access the network (network is set up and hosted on Win 7 machine), and the Win 7 computers can't see the XP computers in the network.

4 things are happening that make this particularly weird:

1. from the Win 7 machines, I can ping the XP machines successfully, and from the XP machines I can ping the 7 machines successfully. They are both active on the network.

2. From the host computer (Win 7), I can see and access all of the XP computers, though the XP computers give me an error message when I try to even go so far as to find the Win 7 computers on the network.

3. From all the XP computers, I can see the other XP computers on the network, and from the Win 7 computers, I can see the other Win 7 computers.

and finally,

4. The Win 7 computer is hosting a database back end from which the front end on each of the computers (XP and 7) pulls the data. Both XP and 7 computers have no problem still pulling the data from the back end in the Shared Documents folder on the host computer, even though the XP computers can't see the network.

Any suggestions?

So I just bought and received a Lenovo Y700 15ISK - model 80NV. Everything works great, but I've noticed that when the laptop enters sleep mode, whether on its own or not, when I turn it back on, it goes through the start up process and any application I had open prior will be closed.  I did some digging around and came across this. I followed what it said and installed the audio driver and BIOS v35 (and subsequently, v52) but I'm still having the same problem. Any ideas on a solution? Thank you in advance! I think it might also be worth mentioning that beforehand, whenever I put the computer in sleep mode, it wouldn't resume and wake up until I had installed v35, so part of my problem's been fixed.

Hello Lenovo community!I'm dealing with this frustrating problem with my Lenovo W540 since some months ago. I hope someone can help me with that!Whenever I move a little bit my laptop, it makes a beep sound and it launches Calculator and Excel a lot of times. It also launches the search tool on windows and keeps typing & till I push the Esc bottun several times. So a slight move to my laptop results in 10 unwanted calculator and and Excel or Word windows opended while making numerous beep sounds. Once I went to BIOS to start into Ubuntu and see if the problem is with Windows and I noticed that even in Bios the beep sound persists and it kept changing the Bios options by itself while making beep sounds!I contacted the Lenovo support and they changed my keyboard a couple of month ago. The problème was gone for a couple of months and now it's back. My computer is still under warranty but since I use it everyday for my work, I really want to avoid waiting several weeks without my laptop so I've been trying to avoid the issue by not moving my laptop. But it's becoming unbearable now since even when I move the screen a little bit, the issue happens!Thank you for your help!

It is difficult to diagnose without actually seeing the machine.  If moving the base causes the problem, I would guess you have a short or bad connection in the touchpad or keyboard cable.  If moving the lid causes the problem, my guess is the cable into the lid (through the right hinge) that goes to the camera and microphone (also USB devices).  It also could be a bad USB chip on the motherboard

Hi everyone,
I have just started using one of Lenovo's hybrids, the Yoga 2 11, after using for a while a previous model (IdeaPad Yoga 11s).
Windows 8.1 on both.
Now, my new Lenovo surprised me with an interestingly annoying feature - it won't allow me to pin Windows apps to the taskbar. I've tried from the Start Apps menu and from everywhere. Only, I didn't try clicking on the app icon when it is running and shown on the taskbar - simply because it won't: there's no way to access the taskbar while an app is open unless returning to the desktop.
I'm quite a beginner but I don't understand why there are such differences when the operating system is the very same. All of this is referred to while in Laptop mode so I can't even see how Lenovo could have an influence on it.

If anyone out there ever had such an issue...

A:Lenovo hybrid - apps won't be shown/pinned on taskbar

Hello Armonia, and welcome to Eight Forums.

The modern apps are full screen in Windows 8.1, and will cover the taskbar. You can use step 3 or 5 to open the taskbar while you have a modern app open to see it.

Taskbar - Open in Windows 8.1

Resetting and clearing all pinned items on the taskbar may be able to help with not being able to "Pin to taskbar" if it's corrupted.

Taskbar Pinned Apps - Reset and Clear in Windows 8

Hope this helps for now,

Help !!!! I have unwittingly loaded this terrible invasion of my privacy on my PC. Norton keeps finding it when scanning. I followed the instructions on how to remove, and I found the spyware.
Apparently I still have it somewhere on my PC, it is not where it originally was.

I also have some files in my temp internet files that will NOT delete under any circumstances, I have tried everything including Total Commander.
Spybot S&D does not find anything wrong, but I know I have a prob as my laptop, on dial up, can load some pages faster than my BB connection
Reg cleaner finds nothing wrond, or ad aware, so where can I go from here ?
The files that are in my temo internet folders are labelled with th etitles :
RAM - Lingerie - Shoes - Clothes etc etc so I know that these are some sort of spyware.

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to PC's even tho I have used them for years, and don't want to delete anything that I should not.

Cheers

My interest in Office is somewhat subdued, because I do not use these kind of apps often, and can get by with Open Office...or whatever it is called now. But, I have been thinking about trying a different Security Suite, because of some quirks of Outpost Security Suite that I would like to eliminate.

However, I know very little about CA, other than recognizing the name. Rather than simply saying yes, it's good, or no, it's bad, I'm hoping that someone has used both security suites and can compare them?

The only reason that I'm considering this is because it looks like an affordable option.

I am a network administrator. I have a new machine with Norton pre-installed, which I uninstalled using the Norton removal tool. I was unable to get CA to work with my machine and called for tech support. After three hours, the technician told me it was fixed but it was not. I was able to browse the internet, but unable to update the CA product. I called back for more tech support and was told that there would be a fee of $169 to "fix" it. Not in this lifetime. This is a brand new computer, with brand new software, operated by a knowledgeable "end-user" and the method of selling service is unconscionable. I have been using CA products for my professional environment and have been extremely pleased. This new method of "delivery" is absurd and not in the great tradition of the company.

Try it with Windows 7. Maybe you'll have better luck. If your experience is similar to mine, I'd like to hear about it.

Hey guys,

I am facing some odd problems on my PC for quite a long time now.I have tried all possible solutions suggested but no result. The problems are:

After I format my PC,it runs smoothly for about 1 week. After this 1 week time period, peculiar problems start to arise.

1)Audio crackles.Whenever I play an audio or video file, the sound appears distorted, cracked. My driver is Sigmatel High Definition Audio Codec. My version is 5.10.5067.0.According to DriverMax information, the latest driver version is 6.10.0.5274 but whenever I try to install that,it fails

2)Boot time increases abnormally.Even,PC refuses to boot sometimes

3)PC becomes very slow.Even an winrar extraction of 100 MB file takes nearly 5 minutes which should have been occured within flat 1-2 mins.Even,Mozilla Firefox browser opens after 1 min of clicking it.

4)I cannot run multiple processes simultaneously. If I do,machine becomes extremely laggy

I have updated every single component just yesterday. My specs are:

Intel Core2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86 GHz
Intel D946GZIS Motherboard
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE Graphics card
Seagate Barracuda 160 GB
Zeon 1 GB DDR2 RAM
MOSER BAER DH-22A8P

My primary suspects were motherboard and Hard disk.I checked my motherboard back from local Intel service center and they said it is OK.I changed my hard disk too but the problems remain the same. And these problems only start happening after at least 1 week of formatting of my PC.These symptoms don't come before that t... 3. Report bk to me listing all of the programs that are in that list.

I will then tell you which ones you could disable.

Thanks

I would just like to make double sure- I am buying Windows XP Pro and I've found some good deals, but some come with SP2 bundled and some with SP3. If I buy the SP2 bundles can I just install SP3 as normal?

A:[SOLVED] Can I get SP3 if I buy an XP bundle with SP2?

Yes, there won't be any problem. You can even slipstream SP3 and create an XP Pro SP3 CD.

Hello,

I recently found through Malwarebytes scan that I had an infection called pup.bundle.installer.oi. I quarantined the virus and then went looking on the internet as to how to remove this problem. I have used the steps indicated in the wikisecurity-info website and logged in in safe mode networking then checked in the task manager for processes (there were none) and went ahead and searched for files as indicated on the wiki website - again there were none. I was then instructed to run registry files and delete from there but again didn't find anything.

Everything I have read about this virus leads me to be hesitant to believe that it has been removed. My laptop is slow to respond, however I haven't encountered any other issues.

Can you please advise what I can do to ensure that the virus has been removed.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. I came across a bundle of drivers specifically designed for W7 x64, most of which I have no interest in, but 1 or possibly 2 appear to be higher updates than I found elsewhere, particularly the nForce 4 chipset drivers.

I have spent a majority of the day downloading these, because I only found them on servers that attempt to nag you to pay them to download their files, in this case Hotfiles and a variety of other problems. They had the drivers split into 6 rar files, of which the last was slightly smaller than the rest and it downloaded at a much, much higher speed than the ones preceeding it.

Once downloaded, I used PowerArchiver to do a multi-extraction of them, but 3 times it popped warning windows of CRC errors, all of which appeared to involve only the 6th rar, so I downloaded it again, but PowerArchiver popped the same CRC warnings again. I decided to let it proceed anyway, and it produced an ISO, but since I only want the 1 driver in particular, I extracted the ISO also.

Scanning through the files and folders that was produced, I found nothing that specifically appeared to be the nForce 4 driver, so I clicked on the setup.exe, and the wizard that it produced was totally egnimatic to me. I'm not certain, but I think that it wanted to install everything in the download, because I saw no way to pick and choose. The check boxes in the top right pane will not permit to to selece or deselect any of them. Since I don't know what would happen if I experimented ... Read more

If it were mine, I would make a system image, in case the solution back fires.

First I would try cc cleaner, to clean up that junk on the hard drive

if that does not work. I would do a system restore which would definately do the trick. System restore will not affect any of your personal documents, pics etc. Think about it, and then decide. Good luck Richard

First off, I want to apologize because this list is quite extensive and has already given me a ton of headaches.

1) I had a laptop, which decided to call it quits on me (the motherboard). Too expensive to replace, and I needed internet access for a lot of things. A friend gave me his old (ancient) desktop, which I have used for the past couple weeks.

Until two days ago, when the computer wouldn't boot up (not sure if this is correct usage of computer terminology). I'd press power, it'd play the windows ME chime, tell me to login, and then after I sign in, nothing would happen. I'd see the background and thats it. I hit Ctrl+alt+del and there wasn't even a program list.

**groans**

So first off, does anyone know how I can resolve that? What the problem might be? If there is even hope for it?
2) The laptop hard drive is undamaged. Is there anyway I can pull that out, and if I get the desktop running, pull data off of it? I have a lot of information I want off there but am unsure how to do that. Or even run the hard drive off of the desktop? Especially since the laptop had windows xp, and me just blows.

3) This is the least significant, and only a minor nuisance, but I thought I'd list it. I have cable internet, and I borrowed a friends laptop so that I could find information on the internet and also check to see if I could get my desktop running again. The machine refuses to run the LAN, I disable it, enable, repair, and it will connect, tel... Read more

If the drive is undamaged you should be able to put it in another rig, as a Slave, and get your info. But not in a WinME machine (assuming the laptop was NTFS formatted). Have someone with an XP rig do it and burn to CD-Rs.
