user accounts panel script error

Q: user accounts panel script error

right I've read through countless threads regarding deleting user accounts on XP but none have the same problem I'm having.

Basically as soon as the window for the user accounts managment thing comes up an error box saying "an error has occurred in the script on this page" and no information is given on any of the lines and does not disappear when you click either yes or no to continue running scripts on this page.

Any help would be mucho appreciated

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You can try dial-a-fix. Its magical for this kind of problems. Dial-a-fix will put many of your registry entries to Windows default state. You need admin rights for it.

http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Read carefully first, then download and run it ONLY if you understand clearly what would it do and if you can take all the previous actions suggested.

Good luck!

Hiii everybody,
this is my first ever post in my first forum . That's a disclaimer to ask you guys to forgive me for having very little gray matter :-( .
I have Windows XP HOME SP2 on Intel Celeron 667 MHz and 192MB RAM. I know it doesn't sound like much so I'm always trying to read forums and tweak my settings. But this time, it ended up worse.
I used a program called autoruns.exe to adjust my startup programs so it'll start faster. I'm not sure what I turned off but now
1. It takes longer to start up,
2. I don't see any accounts (not even admin) in Control Panel - User accounts
3. I can access a directory and open files but I can't cut or copy and paste them into another folder.
4. In services.msc, most of the programs under Local with automatic setting don't start and cannot be started. I can't even see the programs under extended.
5. I have a home network but I can't access any of my other computers.
those are a few of laundry list of challenges with my computer (with me ?)
I'm even ready to format and reinstall XP but I need to copy some files before I do that.
I'm sorry for this long post but can you guys help me?

Hi,

I just got a second hand computer from an auction, and have installed windows XP home edition and the service pack 2. my father accidentally included 4 user login profiles (the ones that appear when you first turn the computer on) instead of just the 1 for me, so I tried to delete the others. However, when i go to control panel and user accounts, i get a message saying "an error has occurred in the script on this page" and "do you want to continue running scripts on this page?" with a "Yes" and a "No" box underneath. no matter how many times i click on either the yes or no boxes, the message won't go away, and so i cant access my user accounts, and the only way to get rid of the box is to log out or shut down.

Can you please help me get rid of this???

Many thanks,
Michael

Do you have a recovery restore install disc or partition?
You can try doing a repair or system file check...
Scan For Missing/Corrupt System Files...

Windows XP comes with a wonderful tool called System File Checker (SFC)
Itscans and verifies the versions of all protected system files after you restart your computer...
To Do This:
Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type the three letters: cmd then click the OK button.
In the command prompt window that just opened (a black background and white text), type the following command:
SFC /scannow
And then click OK
You must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group to run SFC..
You will need your Windows XP CD during this procedure if SFC needs to get an original file. Please remember that Windows XP can have multiple instances of a .DLL file and remember which version is for which program.
Notes....
I have been asked if it is possible to have a "progress meter" show when SFC runs... This is the registry hack you need. PLEASE do not go messing with your registry if you do NOT know what you are doing!
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
Value Name: SFCShowProgress
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)

We currently have a few public computers that anyone of the employees can use while waiting to have thier computer fixed, we have been finding that the Users folder in Vista is getting awefully crowded after a few weeks of this experiment.

We where looking for a way to have a timed script to run on each of these computer at a certain time of day to delete all User accounts on the computer except Public, and our Admin account and shutdown the computers so they would be ready for the next mornings use.

Does anyone have any ideas of how this can be done?

I have multiple problems and am looking for advice on what my first step should be.

I am running Norton Anti-Virus and use LavaSoft AdAware to remove spyware. My Norton has been telling me for a couple of weeks that Live Update is not working and indicated that a file it needed was not found. I tried to download and run a setup program for LiveUpdate and it told me that I did not have permissions to create a directory. I went to Control Panel to check the setting for my account, which should have been the administrator, and there were no accounts listed at all, there should be five, on the User Accounts window.

While trying to figure out what to do I found info about booting up in Safe Mode and tried that. I logged in as the administrator and looked at Control Panel User Accounts and once again there were none listed. I was not able to get to the Internet while in Safe Mode so I could not try the download and run of the LiveUpdate re-installer.

As a side note, because you never know for sure what symptoms are related, I have had a problem for at least several months in Internet Explorer where selecting a link will misdirect me to the wrong link. If I go back and reselect then I get to the proper link. Yesterday, during all of the travails I listed above, I noticed a new issue through Internet Explorer - I can no longer print anything. Selecting Print Preview throws up the Preview window with nothing in it. Mozilla FireFox is also installed and through that it looks like I ... Read more

Hi everyone,

Bit of a problem on my other laptop. I'm running Windows XP. The User accounts panel that is accessed via the control panel is empty.

All you see within the window are forward and back buttons and a home button.

I'm at a loss now, i've tried the doing the following on one of my IT workmates advice:

go to run and type
regsvr32 jscript.dll
if that didnt work then these two
regsvr32 nusrmgr.cplregsvr32 /i mshtml.dll
Neither have actually done anything.
If anyone else has any ideas i'd be gratefull.

Cheers,

P.S I should add that this function worked previously. I have 4 accounts defined on this system. All have passwords. Other behavior which has been occuring for a while now is if the system has been sitting idle for a while, and the screen is back to the login screen, When we click on a userid to log in , The message 'wrong password' is displayed, no matter that the password is being entered correctly. Capslock is NOT on. Restarting the system resolves the problem, until the next time the system sits idle. Annoying and now troubling since I can't access user accounts.

A:UAC prompt for User Accounts Control Panel

Hello Malickfan,

If you have your UAC settings set to "Always notify" (top level), then it would give you a UAC prompt when you try to open the User Account Control Settings.

If this happens each time you wake or restart the PC, then check to see if you may have mistakenly added a shortcut to it in your startup programs.

Hello Techsupport Forum!

I am the administrator for a computer that several employees are working on. I wanted to take all precautions against my account, the admin account. I made it so that the admin account wouldn't show up on the welcome screen, but I am worried about another thing. In control panel, you can go to user account > manage accounts, and you can see all the accounts on the computer. How would I stop this? I know how to hide just User Accounts using the registry, but I am okay (and actually want/need) the users to modify their own accounts (and for some, modify others). But my account needs to be completely hidden. I don't want my employees to know about the account because of security problems. How would I go about doing it? I can't find the .cpl file for just Manage Accounts to hide just Manage Accounts through the registry.
In general, I just need to completely hide one account from view (even if you look in the control panel), but still allow users to manage their own account. I'm sure the Techsupport team can help!

Thanks!

A:How to hide Manage User Accounts in Control Panel

Hi, If you type your title into google you get this, simple isn't it:-

Run Registry Editor (RegEdit.exe).
Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList

Note: If SpecialAccounts and UserList is not found, create new sub-key and name them accordingly.

Select UserList, and in the right pane, right click on any blank space, and point to New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value.
Name the new DWORD registry value name as the exact same name that match the name of the user account to be hidden.
For example, if the user ID of the user account is John, the name the registry value as John.

Double click on DWORD registry value, and set the value data to 0 in oder to hide the account from Welcome Screen.
Tip: To display the user account on Welcome Screen again so that it?s visible again, delete the registry entry, or set the value data to 1.

Exit Registry Editor.
Log off or restart computer to make the change effective.

Tip: In order to login into Windows using an user account that has made hidden and invisible, just press Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up Windows Logon dialog, and then type in the user name and password manually.

Hi there,

I had a similar situation, although I didn't have to create the Administrator's account...that was still there. All the other accounts I had created didn't show up on the welcome screen. Here's what ultimately fixed it:

I logged in as administrator and went to Computer Management. I checked each of my users and I noticed that none of them were assigned to groups anymore. I assigned each one to the Administrator's group. That brought all of them back to the Welcome screen. If you haven't resolved your issue yet, I hope this is of some help to you!!

The security settings also won't allow me to run windows defender (I get an error at startup and if I try to start it via services.msc i get Error 5: Access is denied.) and some anti-malware programs (even in as admin in safe mode) nor will it properly update via windows update website (all fail at install).

Hiya

Can you run Internet Explorer okay, or are there some problems with that? Also, which version are you running?

Also, as its an IE error that's coming up, see if this helps:

In your IE browser, Tools | Internet Options. Advanced tab. Tick Disable Script Debugging, and underneath, untick Display a Notification...
Apply and OK

Does that help?

I'm having a bit of a problem. As far as I know, my comouter is completely free of viruses and spyware. For about a month and half now, I've been receiving the error message "Windows cannot open user accounts control panel" every time I double-click on User Accounts in Control Panel. I've been to many sites and I'm still stumped. I think the problem lies in the file nusmrgr.cpl being damaged or defective. If anybody can't offer me some advice or point me in the direction of a download or a recommended piece of software, I would really appreciate it.

P.S.

My computer is (obviously) Windows XP and I've already tried System Restore and Roxio GoBack.

I need help!!!!

I opened up my new Samsung Series 3 computer for the first time. I made a spelling mistake when I had to choose my account name. After Windows finished installing i made a new account with the right name and i deleted the old. But if I right-click on a file, choose properties and open the tab Security (Sikkerhed in danish) I get this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kz8px9nvge...Unavngivet.png Why is it Pete-pc(that's the fail name)\Peter Stidsen (the new account)?

If i look in C:\Users the only folders are Shared files ("Delte filer" in danish) and Peter Stidsen: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/21887805/Unavngivet.png

Hey guys,

Let me preface this by saying that I have done some research and have found SIMILAR issues to mine, but not this exact problem.

For Christmas, I upgraded my computer a great deal. New processor, hard drive, RAM, video card, motherboard, DVD drive, power supply, etc. Basically a new machine except the case. Used a utility with my new hard drive to transfer everything over from my old one so there was no need to reinstall XP or anything.

Everything on my account works perfectly. However, my sister's account is having issues. When she clicks on User Accounts, an error message comes up saying an error has occurred in the script on this page, then at the bottom it asks if you want to continue running scripts. The rest of the dialogue box is completely blank. Clicking yes, no, or X does nothing but immediately create a new window with the exact same thing.

Any ideas on what I can do to fix this problem? Thanks for your help.

A:Error in user accounts

When upgrading a computers hardware, the best thing to do i reinstall the operating system, or else problems can occur. Because when you install xp, alot of neccecary drivers and programs installs for just that type of hardware and if you don't, it can accur alot of errors.

In my opinion, you should just reinstall the operating system. Because you can come across more errors.

When my grandchildren's computer is started and gets to the user account page, there is an error message as follows.

"The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case. OK"

They click OK, then the user accounts come up like they should. Is there any way to stop this?

They have XP Home.

Thanks

Recently my mother tried logging onto her username and the computer would not let her. It said something about not being able to find her personal profile. So I logged onto my username, which is the administrator, and tried going into USER ACCOUNTS to find out what was going on. However, when I double clicked on USER ACCOUNTS, this error message popped up:

C:/WINDOWS/system32/mshta.exe
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:d369 IP:0193 OP:63 74 69 6f 6e Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I have no idea what this means or how to surpass it. My computer does have its share of problems, however this is very new. If you need any further information to help me, please be very specific for I do not know a whole lot about computers, but I do know some.

Thank you!

1st thing I would do is close the app and reboot the computer. That just might fix things. If it does not, then scan for viruses.
Has any applications been deleted from the machine recently? If it's not a virus it sounds like something is missing.

Ok so here is the problem..I am brand new to this website and don't know too much about computers and fixing them, but I will try my best to explain this problem as clearly as possible. I am using windows XP Home edition. For the past few weeks, whenever I log into a user account, a bunch of error messages pop up right away. They say, "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000022) Click on OK to terminate the application."The first one that pops up says ccApp.exe, then the 2nd one says osCheck.exe and the third one says PIFSvc.exe. When I click on the AOL icon, I am unable to use it because another error pops us that says aol.exe with the same error message as the ones before. The same also happens when I click on the icon for Norton Internet Security and it says uistub.exe. I am unable to use any of these programs. I am aware that uistub.exe , PIFSvc.exe , ccApp.exe , and osCheck.exe are all related to Symantec and Norton but I have no idea how to fix these problems and stop these error messages from popping up. I temporarily fixed the AOL error message by searching for aol.exe on my computer and sending the icon to my desktop to create another shortcut. When I click on that icon, aol loads and works fine. However, I am unable to delete the old AOL icon and the error messages still pop up for the old icon and won't allow AOL to load. I know many of you will tell me to get rid of Norton completely, but I am afraid I won't do that right now, ... Read more

A:Error Messages On Limited User Accounts Only

Yep, I'll tell you to get rid of Norton also BUT it's your choice if you go back to it or not. I believe that your Norton is corrupted and needs to be replaced or fixed. It's your choice - either waste the money on the subscription or waste your time fixing problems like this. We can recommend good, free replacements for the security apps that you're currently using.First, I would uninstall all of the Norton/Symantec stuff on the system using the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel. Then, I would run the Norton Removal Tool (free from here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...005033108162039 ) This is essential to remove all traces of what's likely to be causing the problem. Then you can either reinstall the Norton or you can install the free apps that we recommend. Here's my list of recommended free programs:AntiVirus: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/28415/lng/us/tpl/v5AntiSpyare: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5Firewall: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Sygate_Personal_...Free_d3356.html

Hi

I'm surprised that nobody else has this problem, but I've searched and can't find an answer...apologies if I've not looked hard enough but I decided to post a question because this is 'urgent' to me.

I had 2 children's accounts in Win 8, and had local Parental Controls. Upgraded OS to Win 10, and now I can't manage Parental Controls in Win 10 locally, so I 'think' I need to set up 'online Profiles' for them.

However, all their game progress, profile settings, etc are on their local profiles - how can I get all this data to be on their online Profiles? I didn't want to copy and paste folders (such as AppData) without knowing that this was a 'safe' way to do this.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Rgds,
Andy

Hello,
I have Windows 7 Starter SP1, on a netbook PC.
I normally use an account with Administrator Privileges.
Having started the computer, at the Login screen, Standard user accounts now get an error message, something like:
A USB device or floppy disk must be attached to enable this function.

The Standard User accounts are still shown in:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts\Manage Accounts

Previously, some Windows Updates (particularly Security Rollups) had to be uninstalled and (thus not installed) because, on the second boot up following their installation, the an error message appeared on loading the Desktop
stating:
"Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service [sic]. This problem prevents standard users from logging on to the system ..."
Removing any such Updates that causing that error message cleared the error, but now without any such warning, it is now not possible on starting the computer to log on to Standard User accounts at the Login screen.

I believe therefore there is high probability the error message at the Login screen for Standard User accounts, has been caused through a Windows Update.

How can I make it possible to once again log on to Standard User accounts, at the Login screen?
Regards,
Robert339

I was recently looking on techguy for a similar resolution to the below question in the forum.

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista-7/822354-ccleaner-not-working-when-i.html

I do not have problems using the CC Cleaner in my account (admin) but when I run the cleaner it does not clean Chrome. See, my girl use chrome for her internet browser on her user account and I use Firefox in my admin user account.

IN fact i have this problem in a lot with programs like Tversity, CCleaner and AVG.

Do I have install the program on every User account (hence taking up room on my PC because I am installing the same program twice)?

And when I use virus programs do they sift for infections through all the users etc?

Thanks kindly.

Hello

I have been chasing up an answer to this problem for a couple of weeks now and have found a number of people with same symptoms but no answer which works.

When I go to the User Accouns page the dialog box for the "Choose the Account you would like to change" is blank.

I am an administrator and there are 2 accounts on my notebook - windows 7 professional.

I can view the accounts through the run command, but would like to know why the dialog is empty and what the fix is for this.

I have done a scan for errors - none found.

Done a complete reinstall - Accounts still not visible.

Looking on a variety of forums, this appears to have been happening to XP and Vista prior to Windows 7.

However none of the fixes for XP or Vista work (Some don't even apply).

Does anyone have a solution for this bug?

Thanks

EDIT: Here's a fix for the "Windows Features" blank dialog. I figure it might tell you what your problem is as well.

Hi all

I can't find any mention of my problem on this or any other forum. Or at least I don't think I can... Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Here is my set-up:
Linksys DSL modem, connected to an Apple Airport Extreme wireless router. The modem is configured to be the DHCP server, the Airport is set to bridge mode. I have a new Compaq Presario desktop running Vista Home Basic with a Belkin wireless-G USB dongle. All of this discussion is about wireless, btw - I don't have a long enough CAT-5 cable to connect the Airport and PC.

I have 5 users set up on the PC - 1 true, unlocked administrator account and 4 standard users. When I boot up and connect as any of the 4 standard users they automatically detect and connect to the Airport, and receive IP addresses.

But when I change user to be the administrator the connection drops after a few seconds. The Airport network is visible to Vista, because it is in the list of available networks. But if I try to connect to it it fails, and the Vista diagnostic tool tells me it has been unable to connect 'for unknown reason'. One of the standard users used to have admin rights, and that account had exactly the same problem. If I log in from a boot-up as the administrator I also cannot connect to the network.

If the administrator account has been used and logged out the other users cannot connect to the Airport. I have to re-boot before they can connect again.

I also have a MacBook and a Nokia N95, bo... Read more

Hi all,

Hoping someone might be able to help. Recently, a few strange things have happened with the PC, which first started when I found I couldn't use the Backup & Recovery software in Windows 7. Whenever I clicked on one of the buttons with a shield, nothing would happen at all. I've looked around and just can't find the solution to this. However, today when trying to fix this, I've come across a new user account in the permissions section. The name is jvactaett - I certainly haven't made this! Does anyone have any ideas how this account has got there, and how I can remove it? It doesn't show in user accounts through Control Panel.

I've put a screenshot as well. To get there, I right clicked a hard drive and went to properties, Security, Add, advanced and then clicked Find Now.

I don't know if the two things above are linked or not...
Thanks!
