Finding down loaded files

Q: Finding down loaded files

I use Optima mail, I have down loaded a few things. The applet does not show or give a location option, doing a search by file name indicates they are located in "files". I have spent an hour trying to find "files" any help very much appreciated. I hate 7 and 8 seems even worse!

Preferred Solution: Finding down loaded files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Finding down loaded files

They may be located at Everdesk's root folder.

This is the top level folder in EverDesk. By default it is set to your My Documents folder. You can choose a root folder when starting up EverDesk for the first time, or via this settings menu.

I just checked the computer properties and those files are back. They take up 10% of my computer so I'm back down to 60%.
I took of a screen shot of them. Any idea what they might be? I can only open the main file. As you can see they're all the same. I delete them with no apparent ill effects to my computer, but they reappear every couple of days.

Hey there -

Just a quick question regarding Device Manager. I was updating some drivers and was checking through System Devices and noticed that when I checked the properties on some of the devices ( Intel ICH9 Family SMBus Controller 2930 for example ) it says that there are no driver files loaded for the device.

However when I click the driver tab it lists information as if drivers are loaded. When I try to update the drivers nothing happens so I'm not sure whether the device is working or not - it's telling me two conflicting answers.

Any ideas? THANKS!
- Tagen

A:No Driver Files Are Loaded For This Device...

If there were no driver for the controller, you would know it by problems with the computer
That being said, if there are no very small yellow markers by the device in the Device Manager, you are ok.

I have a new Vista based HP Pavilion computer. It came with some HP provided software files and online service choices that I do not want, one of which is AOL. I do not use AOL and would like to remove all traces of AOL from the computer. I was surprised when I searched for AOL references, found lots of AOL related files, most of which are within a folder in Program Files/Online Services/AOLUS. There is no mention of anything related to AOL in 'Uninstall a program' nor any reference in any startup list. I am assuming I can just delete the folder called AOLUS and AOL will be gone; do you think that is right, or do I need to do something else? I did google for advice, but did not find much, although I do find complaints about difficulty getting rid of AOL. In my case I have never 'activated' or 'launched' anything with AOL on this computer. Thanks.

So I just built my new computer and fired up my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit disc. The setup files load, the Windows logo video plays, the pretty blue screen with the flowers in the corner appears and my cursor has the rotating green circle indicating something is happening. Then the circle stops spinning and disappears. At this point it appears the installation freezes. Pressing any keys or moving the mouse does nothing. I have to restart the computer. Same thing happens. Any off-the-bat suggestions before I start troubleshooting hardware?

Here are my specs:
ASUS Rampage Extreme II M/B
Core i7 920 CPU cooled by Corsair H50
2x 1.5 TB SATA WD Green HDs
6GB Corsair Dominator RAM
1200w Ultra PS
ASUS Radeon 5770 1GB DDR5 video card

My hard drives are in a RAID configuration per the M/B controller and a mirror volume has been created on the disk. I have one IDE DVD rom drive (the only part of the computer that's not brand new) and one additional HD audio card installed. The system is stable in the BIOS.

I have the very same problem iv been trying to fix this since monday with no success.I get right through to the last part of the install called completing installation it seems to get around 75% loaded then just freezes up.I have been told to activate sata ahci but i believe my pc doesn't support this iv already updated my 775 dual-vsta bios and set my sata to raid then non raid(only options i have)and yet no joy. However i have been trying to set it up as 32 bit but in my bios my pc says 64bit compatible.

Since installing Windows 8.1, I have been experiencing issues with script loading in IE 11: When the server responds with "304 Not Modified" in response to a script request, bad things happen. Specifically, I encounter script errors that would
normally be caused by a missing script reference or having references in the wrong order (e.g. "Unable to get property 'foo' of undefined or null reference"). Doing a force-refresh (i.e. Ctrl+F5) corrects the issue until the next page load.
Based on what I see in the IE 11 developer tools, it looks like the scripts are loaded correctly. I can open them in the Debugger view and the content appears to be correct. Perhaps IE is just not loading them in the correct order in this scenario?
I noticed this problem myself and then someone else (who has also recently installed Windows 8.1) informed me that it appears he is experiencing exactly the same issue on a different site.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I searched the site and found nothing relevant to this problem. Ever since the Patch Tuesday updates of 11/12/14, the system has been building temporary internet files and cookies by huge amounts even when IE11 has not been selected from the desktop. I can go in as the Admin. and delete all of the temporary internet folders and cookie folders that I am allowed to. There are some that are blocked even from the Admin., reboot the system with no applications launced, and watch the files build. In 30 minutes, there will hundreds of files and dozens of cookies created, even though no browser was launched. The system has two users defined, the Admin and the one we use for normal operation. Our grandkids use this system, hence the second user without Admin rights. IE11 is used only by my wife, as I use FF for my browsing (with AdBlock Plus & Ghostery enabled). We have a standing policy of running CCleaner (v4.19) after every browsing session. I have also noticed that the process SVCHOST LOCAL SERVICE will have many instances running. As many as 10 to 20 of them. I also can stop the browser service for awhile and have to do so to get rid of all of the temporary internet files and the extra SVCHOST processes. If left alone, the browser service will start up and the runaway begins anew. I know IE is integral with Win7. Also the temporary internet files point to html pages we have never gone to. It looks like IE11 is using our sy... Read more

I think I found the reason for all of the IE activity. I ran MSERT.EXE last night and it found "win32 trojan downloader" on the system and removed it. It appears that fixed the problem. Here's a link to MSERT.EXE. I ran a full scan as the quick scan didn't find anything. I also went and deleted all of the existing temporary internet files that were on the system.

Microsoft Safety Scanner - Free Virus Scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner

Update: It's been nearly 24 hours since MSERT.EXE ran and the runaway IE file building has ceased. The system has been shutdown and booted three times in that period and no repeat of the problem. I'm going to call this one solved.

I added a second machine to my home network, and want to share files back and forth between machine A and machine B. Both are win7 x64 ultimate. I have a shortcut on B's desktop to a folder located on A called "sharedfolder". When using system B and I click in A\sharedfolder, I can then click on a pdf, or an avi, or txt, or whatever, and it loads just as quickly as if the file were on B's hard drive. But if I click on an exe file, it take about 15-20 seconds to load. No prompt, no nothing, it just takes that long. Anyone know what is the deal? It happens with or without no antivirus running.

Thanks a lot

A:exe files loaded from networked computer slow to load

When you just click an exe file like that, it needs a location to run the file. So first it has to completely download the file to the local machine's temp folder then check it, then run it from the networked computer. It's kind of like running an exe from the internet. I find it is always better to run a program from a local machine.

Even in server-client applications there is soemthing that runs locally and access files on the server. I'm afraid it's always going to take those few extra moments to run an application from a networked machine compared to running it locally. When you open say a jpg file the program that's showing it is running local and only accessing the file remotely.

Inevitably every time I go to load SNMP on a machine it askes to insert the Windows XP (or 2000) CD into the drive. I want to rip out only the needed files for the install to go through. Can anyone tell me the required files that machine with already functioning TCP/IP installed needs to get SNMP loaded and working?

I have to try to fit a ton of other things into 1 CD so I am needing to streamline and can't dump 3 different OSes onto one disk. Basically I need to rip out as much stuff from each install and make it so the install will still do whats needed.

Hi StumpedTechy,

You might try the SPCheck Tool on a machine with SNMP already loaded to get the info you are after:

How to Use the SPCheck Tool in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312646/en-us

You can use SPCheck to determine the service pack level of various installed components on Windows XP-based computers. SPCheck generates a report that lists the origin of each file for each installed component. SPCheck reports the current service pack level for the following components:
• Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
• NWLink (IPX/SPX)
• Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) <======
• Client for Microsoft Networks

To install SPCheck, you must install Windows XP Support Tools.

Is there any reason when I do a search for files on my PC, as in START/FIND/FILES or FOLDERS that it doesn't find the files that I have saved within Outlook Express?

For instance, I know SOMEWHERE in my OE I have an email with an attached jpg. in it named PhillyJimmy in it.... but when I do a search of my hard drive (C) it will not find the file. Shouldn't find files or folders find that file name if it's exact?

A:Finding files within OE...???

Hey BigDave

Yes, there is. OE is a database program - your emails are not files, they are information stored within the index files (.DBX). The only way to use search to find something there is to specify what text you are looking for in search. And for files, you would enter *.dbx.

However, if you know it is in a folder in OE, you can use the "search" included in OE.
Click Edit->Find Message In This Folder. If it stops at a possible email and it is not the one, pressing F3 will make it continue the search until it has gone through a folder.

this is a bit of an embarrassing question but please bear in mind that I am a novice at this. I understand about FTP but how do you actually find FTP files in the first place? Is there a search engine in the same way as for normal website pages? Or do you just look for the FTP option when you are downloading files?

Thanks for your help.

Jamie

A:finding FTP files

FTP is File Transfer Protocol. As such, it is a definition for a mechanism to transfer files over a network.

So, there aren't any "FTP Files" since you could theoretically FTP any file.

I believe you're referring to "FTP Sites". Usually, FTP sites are maintained by businesses or individuals who would like to allow people to transfer files to or from them quickly - using FTP. Usually these sites are technical or scholarly in nature - like a computer company having update files on it's FTP site. There will usually be a link on a companies home page. Or a user might have an FTP server with MPEG or MP3 files on it available for download.

As stated, you usually have to be told of the existence of an FTP site or server. You could just "gues" however, this is the hard way.

FTP is "quicker" than using HTTP although file transfer is possible with both.

Modern browsers are capable of changing from HTTP to FTP pretty seamlessly to the user.

Older users (like me ;) or "power users") sometimes prefer the command line FTP which can give a little more control over the intracacies of the protocol. Some programmers have built this into GUI FTP programs such as WS-FTP.

Hope this helps.

If you click "Start", "Computer", there is a "Search" window in the right corner. You can put the file name (Blue.mp3) or if you don't know the file name, put *.mp3

It will bring them up.

I posted about missing files after malware cleanup seperately because i don't want to combine the two. I have a question about how to get rid of files i see in my Secunia psi program but never see them listed in windows uninstaller, Revo uninstaller or even Iobit uninstaller .

Thank you very much, the help is truly appreciated.

A:finding files

Hello -Since you have no record of Malware Cleanup at this forum, could you please tell or link us to that particular item -I think that one minor problem may be related to the IObit programs installed on your system. It is unfortunate that this program / company has a habit of confusing some of your files, and makes them hard to find. The first / best option is to remove IObit from your computer. Next uninstall Secunia PSI Version 3 if that is what you use. Then you can install Secunia PSI Version 2, and not use the latest Version 3, that is a bit more complicated. You may find the earlier version of Secunia is much easier to manage, and easier to handle for many people (me included).Thank You - EDITED to add Secunia 2 Link -

The actual folders are in C:\Users\(your user name)\. The Libraries will link to those folders. HomeGroup does too I think, I don't use HomeGroup and always leave the HomeGroup that's created automatically so there is no HomeGroup. If you open the Charms Bar (Windows logo key + C), click Settings > Change PC Settings > One Drive. Then turn "Save documents to OneDrive By default" Off. All your files will then be saved locally.

A:Finding Compressed Files

I don't have 2k but I would think if you do a full drive Search for either *.zip or *.cab it might turn up something in the way of compressed files.

I certainly wouldn't recommend deleting them until you know more about them unless they happen to be in one of the Temp folders. Even then it's good policy to send them to the Recycle in for a reasonable period before dumping them.

For a comparison, I'm running XO Home and I currently have 185 .zip files and 85 .cab files. Given that yours are only 14 Megs, I would just leave them alone if I were you.

Hi I was kind of hoping I could get some help with this.
Earlier today my computer started acting weird and sent me into a 'temporary user account' whenever I tried to go into my usual account(admin). I got a message saying that it would go away if I logged off but it wouldn't work. And once I had done that a few times the message stopped appearing and it stayed like that.

But my biggest issue is to find the personal files(movies/pictures etc.) from that account, since my hard drive still is almost full they gotta be somewhere. But I can't find them anywhere no matter how I search.

I would really appreciate some help with this, and I would be more than happy to provide more information if I'm told what to information to give.

I then repeated the search using a stand-alone search tool and it found several hundred files.

I looked at the search options and they ARE configured to search the directory in question and MS Word documents. (Since some files were found, it seems reasonable to assume that the search options are configured properly.) It also reported that my system was fully indexed.

Why does Windows Search fail to find files being sought?

Not sure if this is the right forum...

I have alot of extraneous files hidden deep inside folder after folder, I want to be able to find all files that are NOT .wav, .mp3, .aif, .aiff, .rx2 and move them into a new seperate folder, leaving only those files type in the folders. Afterwards I would like to delete all empty folders.

Any suggestions?

I only do what the voices in my head tell me to do....Click to expand...

I feel really stupid asking this out loud...but I have to admit I do not understand this or will not learn, right? Kinda right??

I do not really get the finding file thing. When I go to open a file, and this window comes up and I need to type something in so I can find it, and there is already a location determined, or just there (?)...what the heck do ya do to find what you want to? I am just lost when this comes up and just cancel out of it!! (chicken that I am!).

If anyone can please shed some tech-light on this area of mystery for me...I will try to grasp the concepts and get this down, finally, once and for all. My goal is to not have to cancel out of these searches and know what it is asking me to do to get to where I need to go!

Don't even know if the place is where I should actually be at, like when it comes up with "My Documents" for example. And the bottom item, with the .xxx after it, like xxx.txt, etc...what is that all about?

As you can obviously tell, I am lost but at least I will pull over and finally ask for directions!

Mucha Thanx!

A:Finding Files...not any stupid ?'s, right?

Hi parrotplay,
OK I will try and keep this as basic as possible, if you need more info don't hesitate to ask,it's really not that bad

Ok when you first click on the search tab you will have various options, the first 4 are the one's that you will probably need to begin with so here goes.

The first 2 options, Pictures \ music \ video
Documents \ word \ spread sheets

In both these cases once you have decided what you are looking for as in file type, click on the option needed, once you do this you will have more options, click on the advanced tag. You will now have the option to type in all or part of the file name you are looking for, also if you have multiply hard drives you can tick the appropriate drive letter to search ( hope this is ok so far )

The third option All files \ folders

This will take you straight to the advanced stage ( as above ) just do exactly the same as per telling it where to look and file name etc.

The forth option Computers \ people
This option deals with finding other computers on your network ( if you have more than one pc linked together ) or peple in your email address book ( as it says )

The first two options are probably the one's you need the most, experiment with saving a file ( give it a name you will remember ) and then trying to find it using the search.

I hope this was ok, as I said, if you need anything else ask, no problem

Good luck, and sorry for being long winded

I switched form a desktop running windows xp to a laptop with vista. My problem is that I loaned my desktop to a friend and when I got it back all of the files in my documents and my pictures were wiped. Can any of these files be recovered.

A:finding lost files

Did you look in the recycle bin?
Do a search for jpg files.
Look in Documents and Settings for your old profile, or any unknown profile.
Get better friends.

I purchased a CD with thousands of pictures on it but for some reason I can only see the flash application that shows you the pictures. The program is 3 megs, the total size of the files on the CD that you can see is 3megs. But with hunderds - thousands of pictures on there I know that the disc is full.. I've already tried 'show hidden files'.. I am wondering how the people who burned the CD hid the files and how I can access the pictures...

Thank you in advance,
Ash

PS. The content is NOT COPY WRITTEN - They are pictures of scenes from famous tourist places in Iran. I lost all the pictures I had taken and wanted to post some of these on facebook to show friends where I went. - Just a heads up for anyone who was concerned.

A:Finding hidden files on a CD

I would suggest that you contact the company you purchased the CD from. CDs hold ~ 700 MB; there may be an extraction app needed.

I like freeware Restoration (it recovers from emptied recycle bin):

Of course there is better software but you have to spend $ for it.

Guys,
I am running XP pro SP3, 3.2GB pentium dual core, 4096 Ballistic ram.

over the last few days I have been having issues.. when I open my computer I get the looking for files torch for maybe 15/20 minutes before my drives appear? It is now getting worse... I went to do a reg clean and clicked on backup first and I always save files to same directory, I clicked on the browse button and it has now been stuck for 25 minutes.

I have tried to start bitdefender scan but it wont start, last scan was early hours of this morning and no issues were found.

Any ideas

I just loaded XP on a fresh harddrive. The old hard drive wouldn't boot but was hooked up as drive F as a slave. While trying to move a folder from old drive to new it disappeared. I never got a warning or message asking if I wanted to delete the folder but it's gone. Any way to recover the folder ?

Thanks

Fangers

A:Finding lost files

did you check your recycle bin?....or run a search for the folder to see if its hiding somewhere?

if not, then there are utilities out there to recover data but they are somewhat expensive. I would consider it gone.

*I'm not computer saavvy so please forgive me if I have a hard time describing my problem*

Hey everyone, recently my computer crashed (HP with Windows XP) and I had to reboot my computer, luckily my computer retained most of my files (everything in My Documents, and the HP PAVILLION (C:) etc etc). However, I had a substantial amount of files (mostly media, music) stored in a file on my desktop and as I had worried/expected the file was gone and all of its contents. Now heres where it gets tricky.

My hard drive right now is missing about ~60 gigs which roughly corresponds to the missing data! It says I have about 18 gigs of space left when I should have closer to 80.

I tried running a search for the missing files but the Windows search only goes through the standard folders like My documents etc. It's as if the files are there but there is no file path and they are just floating around in my hard drive somewhere inaccessible.

Is there anyway I can get these files back (without paying $70 for some lame file recovery program) or at the very least get my HD space bacK?

Any help appreciated. Thank you

A:Need Help Finding Some Lost Files!

You could try Recuva.
