Mouse cursor jumps around the screen randomly on my Z500

Q: Mouse cursor jumps around the screen randomly on my Z500

The mouse cursor jumps around the screen randomly on my Z500 laptop which I just over a year old. I checked with the retailers as to their advice, and they said: "To rule out that the problem is software rather than hardware related it is advisable to perform a system recovery on your machine. To do this you will need to launch the Disk2Disk recovery feature (which should already be installed on your machine). This will return your system to factory settings and will delete all existing data stored on the hard disk drive." This appears a bit radical a solution. Does anyone please have an alternative?

Preferred Solution: Mouse cursor jumps around the screen randomly on my Z500

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Mouse cursor jumps around the screen randomly on my Z500

I have the same issue on my Yoga all of the time. The mouse randomly moves around clicking & opening icons in my taskbar. It does it over and over no matter how many times I close the opened icons. The only way I know to fix it is to restart my computer. If I am in the middle of something time sensitive and do not have time to restart, it is impossible to get anything done. I wish I knew what causes it or another possible fix.

A:Wireless mouse cursor randomly jumps around.

Hi TheUnknownM

If your PC is limited to USB1 or USB 2, a USB3 hub will be limited by the USB port it is connected too.
USB3 in a USB2 port will be at USB2 speed. Same with a USB2 hub in a USB1 port.

The the mouse USB device must not be in a hub. Even a mains powered hub. I tried it myself.
Self powered hubs can be dodgy ... self powered USB discs through a self-powered hub ... might not be recognised by WinExplorer. (It happened to me)

I don't know if a mains powered hub will suck enough juice through a USB1 port to be effective. I doubt it.

Any mouse does not like very shiny surfaces or uneven surfaces (my desk has knotty pine and the mouse went weird until I used a mouse mat)

Hope this helps

I keep having a problem with my PC that the cursor will randomly start jumping all over the screen and clicking?
I have done a boot scan with Avast and found nothing. I have also tried 3 different mouses and they also have the same issue.
I have uninstalled the drivers in device manager also and rebooted.
Point to note that this will only happen once every few days, and only lasts for about half an hour.
What could be the problem?
Thanks in advance!

A:Solved: Cursor jumps all over the screen randomly.

So the mouse will start clicking on stuff and going through your computer as if someone else is doing it? Or is it just random going all over the screen?

Hi, I've only recently begun having problems a few days ago with my cursor/mouse where the cursor will sometimes lose focus of the currently active window or the explorer bar (and I have to ctrl+alt+del to gain the focus back because clicking doesn't work). The same thing happens with flash based objects like WheatherSpark or the youtube player, and I have to switch programs and back to firefox to be able to manipulate the youtube player or in VLC where I can't manipulate the player at all and the only way for me to change the sound is to use the scroll wheel (and even then the sound gets randomly changed as if the scroll wheel is being used. I can't change the timeline of the file at all and I cant click on the buttons on the interface, although the file menu works).

I originally thought it was my mouse acting up so I re-installed all the drivers and tried updating to no effect and the same behaviour happens when I turn my mouse off and unplug the bluetooth reciever.

Im using a wireless optical mouse (ROCCAT Pyra) on Win7 Pro x64

ps: I already tried searching but noone seems to have a similar problem

I've only confirmed this on Lord of the Rings Online and Final Fantasy XIV beta client so far, but the mouse cursor has a tendency to jump to one of the four corners of the screen and keep going in that direction (it remains visible at the corner of screen) for about a second or two before I can regain control of it. When this happens while I'm rotating the view during play, it causes the camera to spin around really fast and is extremely disorienting (and also makes my character move in an entirely different direction if I'm moving it at the same time). If you need the dxdiag to diagnose the problem, I'll be able to put it up once I get home in about 3 hours.

Thanks in advance.

I replaced Vista with Windows 7 using a clean install. My wife's laptop came with Windows 7 preinstalled. On both of our machines, the cursor occasionally jumps to a different location while typing. (Example: in an email reply, it will jump from the reply I'm typing down to the previous message.) We've noticed it in Word and Firefox email because we use these the most, but it may happen elsewhere.

Does anyone know why this happens, and more important, how to fix it? I use Microsoft Security Essential as AV and regularly do scans with Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, Ad-aware. Would a Hijack This log show anything?

Thanks, Larry

My cursor jumps randomly while typing, causing lots of need to re-type. My keyboard has that annoying touchthing between g h and b and I wonder if I'm not inadvertently hitting that. I'd really like a fix to this so that this problem disappears, and I'd like the solution not to be an external mouse. Other posted solutions I've seen involve setting selections that are not offered on my control panel.

I have a Satellite Pro S500. There is a problem with the keyboard. When I type (no matter whether I am using Word, a web browser or any other application, though the problem seems to have been especially serious when typing this particular post) the cursor sometimes (often) jumps randomly: it may go back a few words or it may highlight a random section of text (it also makes no difference whether I am using an external mouse or not or how heavy/light the typing style is).

It has been suggested that it may have something to do with the sensitivity of the touch pad; however, reducing its sensitivity has had no effect whatsoever. This is a very unnerving problem and would be grateful for any advice.

Thank you.

I think you are touching the touchpad during typing so you should disable the tapping function of touchpad. This can be done in touchpad driver options.

I have an infuriating problem with my PC, which is a lap-top running Win2K Pro. Quite often when I'm typing text, the cursor spontaneously jumps to somewhere else in the document. It almost always happens just after I've typed an 'e' character. I think what may be happening is that the cursor jumps to where the mouse pointer happens to be resting (i.e. just as if I'd clicked the left mouse button). This happens in all sorts of different applications from different vendors, not just MS Office, so it can't be an application problem - it must be connected with the OS, the mouse or keyboard driver or similar. This happens both when I'm using a separate keyboard and mouse, and when I'm using the lap-top's built in keyboard and touch-pad.

Any ideas what's causing this seemingly minor but very annoying problem?

Thanks - Rowan

hello all

whenever I'm typing a text on this laptop (Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 1818) the cursor () changes it's position randomly i.e. to: .

It is very frustrating as I need to put the cursor back in it's original place again, due to the fact that it jumps to previously typed text. Sometimes it goes back a few words, sometimes it jumps up a few lines. Whenever it jumps back, it jumps in between words or randomly in words like you can see on the second image.

It happens alot (the more I type, the faster it occurs again). I am 100% sure that it's not caused by me touching the touchpad while typing, as I've been looking for 10 minutes now while typing and I can't spot myself touching the pad with my hand, finger or anything else. I tried covering the touchpad with random objects such as a sheet of paper or a creditcard but the problem still occurs.

It happens in any program (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, Notepad,...), even when I'm watching a YouTube-video browsing the comments it's scrolling the page up (never scrolls down).

Is this a well known problem or is it only me? thanks in advance.

As stated above in the questionnaire, my system was sluggish and I ran my PCMatic scan which would stop running about 40% through the scan. I ran Malwarebytes (free) with no issues found. Removed PCMatic and installed AVG (free) which found some issues and cleaned them up but performace wasn't improved much. My keyboard then began to act quirky by characters not appearing or the cursor jumping around or nothing will happen but the "system busy wheel" pops up for a few seconds before characters appear on the screen.

I came back to you guys because TwinHeadedEagle was so effective at helping me with my desktop 18 mos ago that I was hoping for help.

Thanks, regards and please advise if I can once again get some assistance,

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.

It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Hi folks,

I haven't found this strange problem anywhere so here it is.

When I move the mouse a little and simultaneously hit one of the shift (as well as Ctrl and Alt) keys the cursor jumps quite a bit towards the upper left corner at a 45? angle. This is especially annoying when trying to mark files with a mouse/keyboard combination.

So far, I have discovered the problem in almost every application EXCEPT MS Office, Opera, Thunderbird and utorrent.

Notebook: Samsung M60 Chartiz
OS: Vista Home Premium 32-Bit
Mouse: MS Wheel Mouse Optical + Synaptec Touchpad, same problem.
Drivers: default drivers and IntelliPoint V6.20.182.0, same problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot.

Recently I've noticed that my mouse cursor jumps to corners of the screen, usually bottom left or top left but sometimes other corners or just to an edge. I've searched for this problem on here and found none that exactly match my problem. It doesn't happen all of the time, but if I'm moving the mouse around a lot it'll jump off course and re-appear in a corner. The mouse is a wired optical mouse (acer) and doesn't seem to be dirty at all - any ideas anyone?

ps - I did a bit of searching before posting on here and one solution that I've tried without success was going into the mouse options in control panel and 'un-ticking' enhance pointer precision.

pps - just as another check before clicking "submit new thread" I've just tried to get the cursor to jump again and strangely it's behaving itself whilst being on techguy.org - weird? Could it be that webpages with "a lot going on", i.e. links etc are more likely to cause a jump?

Hello everyone, I would like to report a problem. My original post is in Microsoft community forums, here:https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/mouse-cursor-jumps-when-workin... At a random time, when the cursor changes from "normal" to "working in background" it becomes pixelated and jumps away a few centimeters and then returns back to original position when loading is complete. The only way to work around this is if I make a change in mouse settings, like "enable pointer shadow" and then revert it back as it was. Other users have confirmed the issue as you can see and one of them suggests uninstalling System Interface Foundation. By uninstalling it, I tested it and the problem disappears, so this must be the issue, but in that case Lenovo apps no longer work. Maybe an update is needed. I have Lenovo Yoga 500-15ISK and using Windows 10 x64 Home, build 15063.332

I noticed something similar happening in my previous laptop using Vista, but in Windows 7 it's almost unusable.

As I'm typing the cursor will change positions either on the application (to another area of same application), or will jump to another document.

At times I'll start to highlight something in Word to delete it, and as I hit "delete" the cursor switches to another part of the document, highlighting another paragraph and deleting it instead of what I was trying to delete.

At other times I see the cursor leave the document, go to one of the icons of another application at the bottom of the screen. Just as I hit "return" the cursor is now in another document and that document comes up on the screen instead of the one I was using.

At first I was losing whole documents. But then I got smart enough to realize that they had been closed, or stuck somewhere, and I eventually could find them instead of losing all of the work I had done.

I've been composing emails and suddenly the email disappears. It was sent before I finished composing it.

This happens about one every minute or so, and sometimes even more often.

I can see the hourglass pop up on the screne as I move the mouse. When it pops up either the screen zoom changes, screen size changes, or jumps off to one of the other icons as I mentioned above.

It looks to me as if the operating system is doing something else at those times, and if I'm going very fast (I type at about 100 wpm ... Read more

A:Cursor Jumps all over screen

Hi Alan and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

This could be down to the sensitivity of your mousepad. As well as operating on a touch principal, some can operate capacitively if the sensitivity is high enough. To check this, try switching the mousepad off altogether and plug in an external mouse. It's very rare that I use a laptop, but on the ocassions that I have I found that the cursor moved without my intention simply because my wrist must have been moving over the mousepad.

We are having an issue with HP L2206tm monitors that we have set up in our office.  Randomly but quite frequently the cursor will jump to the top right corner of the screen as if someone is touching that spot on the monitor. You cannot use the mouse or touch the screen to move it as it just jumps right back to that spot. This has also happened randomly in the OS and being that the X icon is in that area, has caused programs like outlook and internet explorer to just close by themselves when in full screen mode. The only fix we have come across is to power cycle the monitor which sometimes does not work either; at that point a factory reset on the monitor usually fixes it. Sometimes numerous restarts are required to get the screen temporarily working again. We also notice that when systems come out of sleep or hibernation mode that the screen will constantly flicker or power off until the display cable is reseated and monitor power cycled. The issues have obviously caused frustration with users.  The monitors are being used in combination will HP ZR2240 and HP Z22i, but we have the same issues on 1 2206tm and a dell monitor as well. A final request by a few users was if they could make the HP 2206tm their secondary monitor.  It seems that this monitor will only function correctly when it is set as the primary; otherwise when you touch the screen it will highlight/touch the same spot on the primary screen. Any one have any work around for this... Read more

However, this is only when I travel to my parents' house and connect to their wifi and sometimes at my school in certain locations.Another issue is when typing my cursor often jumps in the text box so I have to erase and reposition my cursor. This is extremely annoying!Next my event log has a TON of error codes; however, I am not a developer so I have no idea if these errors/warnings are important. When I run Lenovo Companion, Webroot or previously McAfee nothing is reported. Is there anyway someone from lenovo can connect to my laptop remotley to figure out what is going on?

My mouse pointer keeps jumping all around the screen, activating menus, dialog boxes, windows, etc., sometimes (almost) deleting or changing things. I'm using an AOpen, PS/2, wired, 2-button mouse and awaiting the delivery of a new, Microsoft Basic USB Optical mouse, which may solve all my problems with this one. Until then, I'm stuck with a system that's practically unusable. Below is my HijackThis info. I hope it gives you what you need. I appreciate your help. Thank you.

I've also attached the extra.txt and Panda online scan report to this message.

P.S. I was advised, since I'm having so much trouble with my mouse, that I should skip Steps 3 and 4 and go directly to Step 5.

A:Mouse pointer jumps all over the screen

TechSupport Gurus: Would you believe this . . . ???? Just as I sent the previous message (with the HijackThis info) to your forum, there was a knock on my door and a neighbor presented me with a package containing my long-awaited Microsoft Basic USB Optical mouse. It had been mis-delivered to his address by FedEx. If I had only received it a minute earlier, I would not have sent my previous message or now be writing this message!!! I immediately removed my old mouse from its PS/2 socket and plugged in the new mouse to the USB port and BEHOLD!!! The mouse was detected and my pointer jumping problem is gone!!!!

My theory is that some recent Microsoft update (all of which I download and install religiously) made the assumption that _all_ mice at this stage of the Windows game is either a USB mouse or at least is a wheel-mouse. So (I think) the problems I was having was just a mouse function that was looking for a wheel to twirl when there was none. Whatever, I'm back where I want to be. Thank you for being there for folks like me when we need you! Where else could we turn? Thanks again!!!

A Google search reveals that others have encountered this same problem (example) but I can't seem to find a solution.

My cursor/pointer often jumps all over the screen, down into the lower left corner to activate the Start Menu, minimizes/maximizes windows when I don't want to, etc. I experience the same behavior with my HP mouse (HP desktop w/WinXP) and Microsoft mouse (IBM laptop w/Win2k). Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 256043 isn't useful to me -- I'm using the USB port on both systems as recommended.

Any guidance? I'm ready to bludgeon myself in the head with a rock.

A:optical mouse jumps all over screen

first I would check the manufacturers web site for known problems and their fixes and updated drivers

For no apparent reason the mouse pointer has started jumping randomly over the screen. At times it goes on a half-minute or so round-the-world trip, activating a lot of blank menus and options. I've had to shut down the PC a couple of times today because I totally lost control of what was going on. This just started yesterday. Any ideas?
Thank you.

Well, have you tried using a different mouse and seeing if the same problem occurs? That would narrow it down. Tell us what kind of mouse this is, too. Is it wireless?

I have recently bought a new computer and the mouse when gaming jumps to the left corner of the screen, normally over the windows button. When in webpages it also does the same and jumps to the Windows button. Is there anyway to fix this?

Thanks in advance

A:Mouse Jumps to the Left Side of the Screen.

Have you tried: Go to Control Panel, Mouse icon, Pointer Options tab, and UN-check the "Automatically move pointer" option box in the "Snap To" section of the window?

I've created this topic here on Aura's advice due to issues I'm having with my laptop. As the title says, my mouse cursor is behaving strangley, it has lines going through it and has enlarged itself. I've not modified anything in the cursor options, I've even click on default settings, restarted my PC ect and it's still not reverting. The strange thing is, if I log out of Windows, the cursor goes back to normal, but as soon as I log back in it goes weird again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I noticed this today. Seems to have happened in the last few hours. First I had some scrolling lines when I had a web browser open which showed the desktop. Looked like the lines from an old CRT but wider. Now those have stopped and I'm stuck with an enlarged typing cursor and weird cross hair on my charting software. Also noticed some other software that uses the mouse seems to have stretched the cursor. No idea what is going on...

I have run into a problem I haven't seen before on a HP desktop running Win 7 Ultimate x64. The users reported that when they open a window, ~30 instances of the window open at once. The error is intermittent, but since they shut down the PC after each use it may come and go with each boot.

I looked at the machine and it functioned fine after several reboots, but eventually I was able to see some strange results. I didn't see the multiple windows open, but I did have some input issues. The mouse pointer would jump all over the screen and applications would open that were never clicked. The right click did not function correctly. Sometimes the context menu would flash on and off and sometimes nothing. I tried an alternate mouse and using a different USB port with identical results. I have run virus scans, malware scans and a registry scan, but no dice.

Anyone have any ideas. I am stumped.

It does sound like malware to me, you could try this; USB Driver - General Fix for Problems[2]=Hardware%20and%20Drivers it may be of help if different mice are used on this machine.
Maybe trying an online scanner would help or this; http://www.microsoft.com/security/sc...s/default.aspx

Hi. I often have multiple tasks open, and frequently toggle (task shift) back and forth between applications as part of my daily job routine. I've been moved to a new desk, and am irritated by the fact that whenever I type Alt+Tab to switch tasks (toggle), my mouse pointer immediately moves to the center of the screen. This happens every time I switch tasks using Alt+Tab. It isn't conducive to the type of work I do, and I would like to have the mouse pointer stay still instead of involuntarily jumping to the center of the screen over and over again.

I have asked Windows Support, as well as IT at my job, and no one knows how to fix this. There must be something in the preferences to change this, right?

A:Switching tasks with Alt+Tab - mouse jumps to center of screen

For now see if this AutoHotkey script is any help

CoordMode, Mouse, Screen

KeyWait, Alt
KeyWait, Tab
Edit: It should put the mouse to the spot it was when AltTab was pressed.

I've had a problem thats been persistent throughout the past week. Sometimes while I'm browsing a website and I try to move my mouse cursor, it will sometimes click on a link that it passes over, even if I didn't click on it. This tends to get annoying especially if the site has ads on it. At first I thought it may have been my laptop's "tap to click" feature but I knew that I had it disabled months ago, so I checked to see if it was still disabled, and it is. This problem also occured when I was in the process of removing a previous infection but persisted even afterward, and no spyware or virus detections pop up. I'm thinking it may have something to do with some registry values that were changed to solve an issue I was having with automatic key strokes, since sometimes if I press two keys at once and let them go it will act as if I'm holding the key I first pressed, which gets annoying and irritating while trying to play certain games. I'm using an Acer Aspire 5517 with Windows 7 installed in case it's a software or hardware issue with either one that I'm not aware of.

EDIT: On one instance I do recall leaving the cursor over a link by accident and, upon moving my hand away from the keypad, it would load the link about a second later, which led me to believe that some kind of malware may be involved.

A:Mouse cursor randomly clicks links while moving?

Try going to the manufacturer's website and downloading the latest drivers for your trackpad.

If that does nothing, try disabling the trackpad and plugging in a USB mouse. If the behavior stops, you know the problem is with the trackpad.
