DVD Shrink problems help me out ???????

Preferred Solution: DVD Shrink problems. audio and menu problems up on playback, help..

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Dell 3252 having audio problems and start menu problems

You appear to have a Dell Inspiron 3252 desktop.
What's the exact "service tag" number and "express service code" number on yours?

It appears to have Realtek ALC3600-CG 5.1 channel high definition audio.
HERE is the Windows 10 64-bit driver for it.

You should consider getting rid of the IObit-related apps that are installed in that desktop.

When I am playing a video on youtube the audio on it plays fine. But then when I have the same video on my computer it plays all crackly and staticy. I tried to get a new driver for it then the videos started to playback fast. So then I removed the audio driver and kept the one that installs by default. I removed the K-lite Mega Codec pack and the sound played back fine but there was no video. So then I used codecfixer and it still didn't do anything. I don't know what else to do other than post something here and hope that someone knows how to fix the issue. The computer has Windows XP Professional SP3 1.3GHz Pentium 4 256MBs RAM and a GeForce 6200 graphics card. I have the latest Graphics card driver installed directly from nvidia and I have the latest K-Lite Mega Codec Pack installed. If you need further information just let me know and I will try to find what you need.

Hi all. I've just finished setting up a "new" system and I've been coming across some bugs. This is the main one. My Audio breaks up when I try to play back files some of the time.

You can see my system specks next to my username.

The question is it the MB, the Sound Card, the Sound Card Drivers, or the Codecs I'm using.

I had a K-Lite codec pack installed and I had some other one installed at some time as well. I've since uninstalled these free codec packs after re-discovering my disc with Cyberlink Power DVD on it. I've never had problems with the Codecs that this program installs so I think I can eliminate Codecs. Especially considering the problem exists even in VLC.

I do use a software level audio enhance from SRS however I didn't have any problems with it on my last system so I don't think that is the problem.

That brings it back to my drivers and hardware. I've checked that my drivers are uptodate several times. Both through the manufacturers site and MS Update. So I'm guessing it's got to be hardware based. However! There isn't just distortion when audio files are played there is also a slowing down of the audio track. ???? That would indicate a processing slow down. Wouldn't it? The CPU goes straight to a bit over 50% when I start playing audio files. It's Dual-Core processor so that would tend to indicate a single core enabled process cramming one of the cores with calculations.

Hello, since I started my computer yesterday, I experience the following problems:
in Chrome and Firefox, videos stop playing, lose sound or reset at random times (could be after a few seconds or several minutes). It happens with both Flash and Html5 videos, and on all sites (Youtube, IGN, Gamespot, etc.). I have to close and reopen the browser tab to be able to play the video again... then the same problems occur again.
In Spotify, music stops playing randomly as well. Changing track doesn't fix the problem, I have to restart Spotify.

Here's what I have tried:restart the computer many times
Uninstall / reinstall Flash
Disable Flash in Chrome plugins
Disable hardware acceleration in Flash
Uninstall Camstudio, the only software I installed recently
Run CCleaner and clear caches
Try on Firefox (which is clean, I never use it), same problem
Reinstall Chrome
Reinstall Spotify

This is my work computer, running Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise SP1 and it has the latest Windows updates.
Thanks in advance

This came up, a Quicktime error, Error-36 an I/O error occurred.

hi there.
so i've built a new pc for myself. i encountered some strange errors and i wanna ask for advice.
for example, i play "team fortress 2" for more than 15 mins, the game would crash to desktop. after this, audio playback is broken (i hear strange noises from time to time, distorted mp3 playback at each 4-5 seconds)
the video playback is also broken (vlc player displays image like it would lack the proper codecs - but before error it would play nice)
the system becomes pretty unusable, if i try to open some application/program, it would run with errors or not run at all: tried opening a program to make a screenshot, it crashes with strange errors, tried opening google chrome - when it displays a flash content, it freezes and eventually crashes.

don't know if it's related to this problem, but my hdd already died (mechanical failure, i guess, it just clicks and nothing else). now i'm using my older hdd, seagate barracuda 7200.10, 160GB. i'm a bit scared this one will also die.

don't believe it's os-related, encountered same problem on windows 7 64bit also.
also don't believe it's video card's fault - it's not new, i used it for about 6 months on an older system and never had a problem with it.
so, please, any advice? need aditional details? just ask.

my specs:
processor: phenom II x4 955 black edition

I recently installed Origin and Battlefield 1, and soon after Windows reported problems with high def audio bus. For some reason I have three of those in device manager, and only one of them shows a problem. Some of the sound in Battlefield 1 is also gone. After a few weeks the start menu started glitching, not working all the time. For a brief time I used a mic that I have not used before, I don't know if that's relevant. Neither of these problems occured at any point before Origin/BF1/mic. I have tried updating drivers, both from internet and from list, without any luck.

I seem to be having problems with both DVD Decrypter and DVDShrink lately. I've recently been backing up my dvd collection with my new HP dvd 840e and was at first not experiencing any problems. I was ripping with Decrypter and then compressing and burning with DVDShrink. However all of a sudden my computer restarts itself when I activate either of these programs. Sometimes at soon as I click on them, other times as soon as I am in the middle of running them. I've run Ad-aware, CCleaner, SpyBot, etc. and my computer itself is just fine. I'm looking for some insight on why this might be happening. Thanks in advance.

A:DVD Decrypter/Shrink Problems

Any recent hardware or software changes? The only thing I can think of thats common is they both probe the cd/dvd drives, so if there is some software conflict, or if the power supply can't handle the extra load of spinning up a drive.. its likely software issue.

I wanted to shrink my 120GB harddrive so that I can use dual boot.
I opened diskmanagement and rightclicked my C-drive and clicked Shrink and entered the amount. Windows then kept hanging and I decided to quit the disk management window.
I did this routine 2 more times but still it kept hanging.

Yesterday I went to try it again but noticed that the amount of shrink space I could enter was only 1GB. I did notice that after trying shrinking my drive several times, the empty space on my C-drive increased with the amount(s) that I had entered to shrink. But the times I tried shrinking it, it did not show me the shrunken space but it kept hanging, like I said before.

Yesterday wen i tried shrinking it with the 1GB it did not hang but it showed me the shrunken space of 1GB in the dskmanagement window.

My question is- what can i do to make the amount of space that i could shrink bigger?
I need to install another operating system on it and 1GB just is not enough.

Man, this is a mess!
I don't know where to start... At the beginning I guess... which seems like ages ago but it was only a few hours ago...

Okay, I wanted to shrink my 650gig C drive down to 85 or so. I read a tutorial on the net about how to do it and they said that you could do it by defragging with Perfect Disk, defragging the System Files with it, and then performing a few other steps which would allow you to shrink C to a lot smaller than the 350 gigs it was originally allowing me to do.

The steps were to turn off hibernation and delete the files, turn off system restore and delete files, and turn off the page file.

Then perform a defrag and then a system file defrag on boot up, then shrink.

I did this and then repeated the "rinse, lather, repeat" about 3 times to get my C drive down to 85 gigs and leave the biggest part of my 750gig HD for archiving only. Seemed like a good idea... at the time...

So the Shrink process went well. Each time I did a System File defrag with Perfect Disk, figuring that each time the drive shrunk, it could move the MFT file a little closer in thus allowing for more shrinkability. It seemed to work.

After I got C drive down to 85 gigs, I immediately restarted and re-stored my page file settings to "let Vista manage" it, and re-started System Restore and created a new restore point.

But when I re-set the page file I got the message: "Another page file exists, do you want to replace it with this one?" I sai... Read more

you may also want to run a chkdsk command on the system drive, if this finds errors then running chkdsk /f will clean up any remnants of file fragments

A:Dual Boot: Harddrive shrink problems PLEASE HELP

Now, the major problem with using Windows Vista's (or Windows 7's) built-in tool for extending partitions is that in order to extend a partition, the free space must be immediately to the right of the partition you want to extend, like this:
where the P's are the partition to extend, the F's are the free space you get by shrinking a partition. When you shrink a partition, the free space is created immediately to the right of the partition you performed the shrink on, like this:

I recently had to do a repair install of XP Pro SP2 after an uninstall of VMWARE didn't go properly!

Since the repair i've not been able to get either Nero Recode (Nero Ultra 9) or DVD Shrink to work!

When i try to bring up Recode it appears in the task bar but just hangs there... I can't kill the process in task manager and the only way to resolve is to do a hard boot on my PC.

The same issue with DVDShrink, except that this goes a little further. It'll let me import the disk in question, but freeze upon hitting 'backup'.

Now my PC spec hasn't changed and Recode was working fine before i had to do the repair so obviously there's something missing after re-install.

I did have problems with setting up file-sharing after repair and had to copy back in and re-register LanmanServer.dll but i cannot for the life of me find any such issue with Recode or DVDShrink... I know that the guy who wrote DVDShrink went on to work for Ahead on their Recode portion so i know they're both suffering the same issues, but all my searching seems to be in vain as i can't find anything at all to get this working (and i don't want to do a COMPLETE re-install)!

If anyone has any suggestions i'd be eternally grateful!

Hello. I have some audio issues that are causing distortion whenever I watch videos on youtube or watch streams on twitch. I updated my flash and that didn't change anything. These issues just started within the last 3 days. I tried a system restore from two weeks ago and that didn't work. I double checked my sound drivers and they are up to date. This happens in both Firefox and Google Chrome. I started Firefox in safe mode with all addons disabled and it still happened. The distortion didn't really capture very well on the video even though I can hear it. You can hear it better in the beginning. And this happens on videos that are buffered, even if I wait 5 minutes, this still occurs. I can try a different video once I get back from school(have to leave right now) if you want to hear the distortion better.

In the player, you can change the Audio out device in the Preferences/Options and generally adjust the sound volume level as well.

You should try reinstalling the software to see if the defaults are restored; ie PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc.

Hi all!

I've got a bit of a problem with my DVD player atm...
When I first installed it, every time you tried to play a dvd-movie on it, the movie quality would be slow, jumpy and the sound would be worse. Back then, I had Windows ME, so I went to Properties, and enabled DMA, and it worked like a dream.

Now, I've reformatted, and I've got Windows 2000 Professional on here. I finally figured out how to enable DMA, however it doesn't seem to work. On the secondary IDE channel (and the first), I have it set to 'DMA if available' on both Device 1 and 0...
Device 0, says its current transfer mode is DMA Mode
Device 1 says Ultra DMA Mode

And yet DVDs still run slowly and jumpily like that wasn't the case...
I'm pretty new to the workings of 2000, as I've been on ME since it came out...

It's a RICOH DVD/CDRW MP9060 Drive.
I just upgraded the Firmware to version 9.0 (latest)
Windows 2000 found it by itself, so I'm not sure if they're the latest drivers. I've tried finding later drivers for it, but I can't find anything!

Thanks all!

A:DVD Playback Problems

Having a DVD player is one thing; having the right DVD playback codecs for movies is another. You may have to upgrade your actual player software or try something else.

gspot will give you a rundown on installed codecs:

The Microsoft Decoder checkup utility is a bit more narrow in focus, but I'm not sure it will run on Win2k:

Cliprex is a player that can be installed which includes uptodate mpeg-2 codecs:

I have a problem with DVD playback on my Dell Inspirion 5160 laptop.
Both sound and picture jump and are not played back properly. This is also the case with dvd menues.
First I thought that this was a software and codec problem. I tried fixing it with codecs and then eventually formatted my laptop (it was that time of the year!), but the problem still persisted on the fresh system. I then thought that this could be a hardware problem, as my NEC combo drive also had problems recognising copied dvds. This problem was sorted after updating the firmware (well.... bloody NEC and dell bastards didnt have any new firmware... and they call that customer service!).
Anyway updating the firmware helped me sort out the recognising copied dvds issue, but didnt help with dvd-film playback.
The only two things i can still think off as the cause for this problem are:
1. A frame problem. As I am forced to run my tft display at 60Hz. Thus a dell display driver could possibly sort out my problem?? (the only problem here being that dell has a seriously long list of display drivers and I dont know which one applies to my screen... it'll be a lot of work to try them all.... and I have tried pretty much everything to find out my display model).
2. I have read somwhere that the cause for this sort of playback problem could be the turned on hardware accelleration within the player software?

Any suggestions anyone? Am I waisting my time with the above points??

It sounds as if your laptop isn't quite fast enough to keep up with the DVD and whatever else is running in the back ground. Before I'd go with your 2 options that you listed, I'd try to shut down any programs that aren't required at startup. You can do this by going to Start>Run then type in "msconfig" (without the quotes). A pop up window will open. Click on the "Startup" tab. You'll see a list of programs that start when windows starts (therefore, they run in the background when your computer is on, sucking up valuable computer resources).Go to the Startup List HERE on BleepingComputer.com and type in the programs one at a time to see if they're required at startup or not. If it's not listed, then leave it alone! If it is listed, like for example, qttask which is Quick Time, you don't need that to run at startup but it's up to you, well, I'd uncheck the box to the left so that it doesn't run at start up. Also, any auto update features will slow down your machine too, specially if it's got a wireless signal.Once your done, you'll have to restart your computer. When it restarts, you'll get a warning box saying that you've made changes to your startup. Before you click OK, check the box "don't show this again" (or something to that effect, I believe it's at the bottom of the warning box), then click OK. Try playing a movie now and let's hope that this worked&#... Read more

Since I upgraded to windows 10 I've been unable to play cd's, the computer recognizes them, WMP shows the album art and the bar moves along as if it's playing but theres no sound, theres sound for all other aspects of my laptop. I also can't rip a cd it shows as error. I have tried other players and its not just specific to WMP.

Dvd's play absolutely fine.

I have just performed full system restore and the problem still persists.

I am having major issues with the playback of DVD's on my LITEON 1632 DVD-RW this is the only drive in my system and is running off of the Second IDE slot.
When i play a film i have delayed or no sound, and the picture freezes constantly.
I have altered the DMA settings to no avail and have even uninstalled the network adapter and let windows re install them to try and rectify the problem but this is still causing me a problem. Settings keep defaulting back to PIO mode after playback and i get a yellow triangle message stating transfer mode downgraded this usually happens after using power DVD v.5. I have changed IDE cables incase that was the problem but it is still happening
Can anyone please shed some light as its driving me mad!!

Hello everyone. I am having some problems playing .wmv videos on my computer. The video will at random times stop throughout for about half a second and then surge forward in order to catch back up with the audio. Avi's work flawlessly and when I run a performance monitor I can see the CPU is only around 40% while playing, even when the video lags. I have installed a few codec packs but I'm wondering if there is something I'm forgetting? I think my system should be good enough to run movies, Athlon 64 X2 3800, 2GB ram.

Any ideas anyone?

I am attempting to use a DVD-ROM on an older system, When DVD is inserted and InterActual player is installed, and player is launched. When player is launched I get the error message Error Code F6F00018 'Current display mode is not supported', it also suggests that I lower screen resolution to 800X600 and 256 colors, also lower Refresh Frequency to 75hz... After doing the suggested fix, the same error message appears. I am using a Win2000 system with 500mhz Celeron. Could anyone give me a hint on what to do here?

Dr. Joe,I see you have an open HJT log posted in the HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum. You shouldn't make any changes to your system, while your HJT log is posted, as that could change the results of the posted log, making it difficult to properly clean your system. At this point, the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.I'm closing this topic until you are cleared by the HJT Team. For exactly one DVD that I can find (Men In Black Collector's Edition), there are two discrete spots during playback that will cause my system to hang. This problem has survived the replacement of the OS (98 -> XP), the video card (Banshee -> GF3), reinstallation of everything on a hew hard drive, and even (I think) the DVD drive (I can't remember anymore). All other DVDs that I own work fine (as far as I can recall). In addition, this DVD is pristine - no dirt or scratches, and it plays perfectly on a standalone dvd player and another laptop.

Does anyone have any idea of what's going on here? Thanks in advance!

Hey. I just recently reformatted my pc, and I lost all my drivers/codecs. So my problem, I can't play any music format on it. At all, without the required codecs/drivers I suppose.

Can anyone guide me, on what details should I pay attention on choosing the driver, and maybe even be so kind and give me a direct link, or at least the site, where I could find it.

Thanks in advance.

I have a custom built PC and the DVD drive it came with has never been able to play bought DVD films properly (Jerky playback and audio). It will however play video files (.avi, etc) from a burned DVD fine, although it has always made excessive noise, loud fan and slow to react. I used a wide range of media players and codec packs so thought it might be a hardware problem. So I bought a new sony DVD drive and installed it and it played the film DVDs perfectly for a few days but now has the same problem as the first, if I try to play a film it will be jerky and choppy or the drive will simply make loads of noise and crash the media player.
Please help me solve this problem, and ask if you need more info.

Im having trouble with my pc and its ability to behave lately.. for some strange reason it completely refuses to play original shop bought dvds that it has played fine in the past.

I get the following error message.

Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

I have done as suggested and updated my catalyst drivers to the latest one.. still no luck. Could this be a freindly microsoft "update" or am i missing something obvious here..??

By the way.. copied dvds play fine.. also i know i could probably download another dvd software player, but im curious as hell to find out what has happened? im running xp home.

Ty in advance for any replies!

What version of WMP are you using? A simple upgrade to the next version is likely to fix it.

Whenever I play a video on my XP system (in any player) it plays back pixelated and way too bright. This problem extends into video games where the in game movies play the same way. I recently had the K-Lite codec pack on my system but removed it because it was a headache. I'm thinking this might be part of the problem. Aside from that the problem might be the driver for my Nvidia GeForce 5500, it could be doing some kind of obnoxious video acceleration or some crap.

I'm stumped here.
PS. I would have posted a screen shot of the problem but apparently XP wont let you save video frames.

Just a suggestion for trouble shooting try videolan it comes with its own codecs. This may eliminate codecs as the issue, and point to a driver issue...I've used the kl pack for over 2 years with no issues....

WMP 10 skips a bit when I type and stuff, or when the computer gets busy.

The only problem is that I've got over a gig ram, the computer is not slowed by spyware or anything (In fact it's just been reformatted not too long ago), and it is not at 100% when the skipping occurs.

Is this just a poor motherboard or is there something in the software I can adjust?

I've even got the media on a 2nd hard drive so that it should be nice and easy to access. Even as I type this message the music skipped a bit three times.

Please help!

Hey guys! I recently recieved a laptop from a friend and everything on it seems to work on it pretty well, asides from one nagging thing. Anything Video.

For some strange reason, the video can tend to lag, minor in some cases but others really bad. The video will really start to slow down, while the audio keeps going like nothing ever happened. In worst cases videos of sports like mma will really lag and start to skip, making it pretty much unwatchable. So I'm not sure if its some sort of speed issue or what. It can even do this on sites like youtube!

I'm running Vista Home Premium SP1 on a hp dv9823 cl
It has 3 gb of ram and a AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 2.00 ghz processor, and a NVIDIA GeForce 7150m video card.

I figure the hardware is more than enough to do something as simple as playing back video, so I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with drivers or settings or something like that.

I'd really appreciate any help you guys can throw my way! Thanks!

Do you know for a fact that your unit does support direct playback? The USB port might simply be for outputting purposes.

when i'm playing back .avi files (don't worry, they're legal) using media player or something like divx player why does the picture skip occasionally. this happens more when the images are moving fast. any ideas how to cure this??

A:Video playback problems

Hi Bliv,

This could be due to either, problem with media like CD/DVD (if you are using any) or a problem in avi splitter/filter/post processor.

I don't know exact details of the avi files you are playing with but I think you may have a DMO filter problem.

Please go through this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327609

If you decide to install the fix, then make sure that you have closed all Media Player instances, not doing so may cause this fix to fail.
