I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I noticed in screenshots that Server 2016 has different window decorations compared to Windows 10.

Do aero.msstyles and aerolite.msstyles define window decoration style? I noticed these files have a different size in Server 2016 preview compared to Windows 10.

If these files do contain a different style, any way to use them on Windows 10?

I'm on Windows 7 x64 and Windows Update keeps pushing Windows Technical Preview for me to update to. I keep right-clicking and 'hide update' but still pushes it to my update. The Published date has gone backwards from Sept 30th, 23rd, 16th, 9th 2nd, August 26th. Has this been happening with anyone else or is there a fix from having it push this update to me?

Hello spook,

That would be just a normal recommended Windows Update to install for Windows 7 instead.

It's not for the Windows 10 Technical Preview. That has to be manually downloaded and installed.

I would be fine to go back to windows 7 or 8, or even keep 10. but I don't want to have to pay for another copy of windows considering the laptop has already had windows 7 before (The key has not been re used elsewhere)

p.s: The laptop WAS dual booting windows 7 and 10 a few months before I received it, but I think he may of deleted the windows 7 from the computer as a matter of privacy, it now only boots the windows 10 technical preview (Of my understanding)

First try, I had the C drive of a laptop's hard drive formatted & tried to install Windows 10 Technical Preview from DVD to this C drive. But the DVD could not start the computer & said, "BOOTMGR is missing."

Second try, I had the D drive of my desktop formatted & tried to install the Windows 10 Technical Preview on this partition. But the start system could not recognize the DVD. It said that there was no boot media. (Note: Windows 7 Pro. 64b. was the OS of this desktop.)

A few days back, Microsoft released Windows 10 Technical Preview to the public for testing purpose. In order to remove general annoyances and bugs, Microsoft is offering us these preview versions. If you?ve already installed Windows 10 on your system, and you?re facing some issues in running your system smoothly, then this post is for you, since it will tell you how to remove or uninstall Windows 10 Technical Preview.

Since you?ve installed this version either by upgrading the system or in a multi-boot environment, the earlier existing stable copy might have been disturbed. Personally I found my own laptop flashing weirdly during booting, after installing the preview. I made it dual boot with Windows 8.1, and it seems like the preview haf already disturbed the stable copy. Well, if you too are facing issues on your machine after installing it, you can remove it using the following methods:

I updated my edition of Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) to the Windows 10 Technical Preview. After using it for a few days, I was unable to log into my regular account (Which had all of my windows 7 files) because it wouldn't show up in the log in list. It told me to instead log into my Microsoft account, so I did. It basically created a new guest account for my Microsoft account. Now when I try to log in, it will not show my first account. Here are the names

First Account: Cameron
Second Account: Cameron.Cameron-PC

I can still access some folders on my second account because it somehow is in a homegroup. So I think this means that I have two homegroup users on one computer and I can't access parts of the first account's homegroup files nor log into the actual account.

I cannot use ANY admin controls so I can't do much.

Please help me with this problem. Thanks, Cameron.

For sound, if you are using a sound card, go to the manufacturers website and try to find supported drivers.
You will need to elaborate on your start menu and cortana problem.
But personally, I am not liking the native start menu on b9926. I replaced it with Classic Shell.
As for Cortana, I have it fully disabled including the Cortana/Bing search bar on the taskbar.

I initially has this problem when installing the Windows 10 preview on VirtualBox. Enabling "PAE/NX" in the virtual machine properties solved the problem. If you select Windows 8.1 as the OS type during the creation of the virtual machine this will be selected for you.

In Windows 7 and older CPU support for DEP was recommended but not required. But starting with Windows 8 this became a requirement. PAE and NX (can have different names) provide this support.

Brad Sams asked me on Twitter yesterday if we had a list of new keyboard shortcuts in the Windows 10 Technical Preview. Here is what I was able to pull together for the keyboard junkies out there:
Snapping window: WIN + LEFT or RIGHT (can be used with UP or DOWN to get into quadrants)
Switch to recent window: ALT + TAB (unchanged) ? Hold shows new Task view window view, let go and switches to app.
Task view: WIN + TAB ? New Task view opens up and stays open.
Create new virtual desktop: WIN + CTRL + D
Close current virtual desktop: WIN + CTRL + F4
Switch virtual desktop: WIN + CTRL + LEFT or RIGHT

Over the weekend, the one-millionth person registered to sign-up for the Windows Insider Program and download and install the Windows Technical Preview, Microsoft says, and unprecedented level of pre-release involvement for Windows. That this comes less than two weeks into the availability of the preview is a positive sign for the future success of Windows 10.

"This is going to be a different Windows," Microsoft's Joe Belfiore notes in a post celebrating this milestone. "We're going to share our plans and progress with you earlier and more often as we want to build a Windows that everyone will love and really enjoy using. I'm excited for the level of participation we've seen."

Here are some interesting bits Mr. Belfiore provided about the Windows Technical Preview.

1 million users in about 10 days. As noted up front, over 1 million people have installed the Windows Technical Preview.

200,000 pieces of user-initiated feedback (or UIFs) have been submitted to us via the Windows Feedback app from Windows Insiders.

Most installs are on real PCs. Only 36 percent of Windows Technical Preview installs have been in virtual environments like Hyper-V. So 64 percent of the installs are on actual PCs.

I have been using my Dell U2414H monitor and AC511 soundbar on Windows 10 TP for several months without issue. However, as of the last update, the soundbar is no longer recognised as itself, but instead as 'USB Audio Device' using the generic Microsoft drivers in Device Manager. This results in low-level, but quite annoying background noise or hum.
I have tried unplugging, replugging and switching the USB cables, uninstalling the USB Audio Device in Device Manager and replugging etc, to no avail. Frustratingly, the picture of the Soundbar often comes up in the Taskbar, but the correct driver fails to install.
I would like to try manually installing the driver using the 'Have disk' function, but since the driver for the Soundbar is WHQL signed, there isn't a download.
Could Dell make the driver package available as a download?
Or could an enterprising person with a working soundbar locate the driver files and package them?
Thanks a lot in advance for the help!

Hi LibertyNoir,
Job well done on the troubleshooting part. As for the Windows 10 technical preview, this is only the BETA vesion and drives for the same are not available as of yet. You would have to wait for the complete windows 10 version to get the drivers from the manufacturer.

It had to do with system recovery and when I googled it, it seemed to be a common problem when people were installing Windows 8 preview.
The solution was to assign a letter to the system recovery drive, then download this 3rd party partitioning program and add more space to the system recovery drive.

So today I'm gonna create this thread because I didn't see any thread like this here on forums.

First and inforemost: YES, you can install latest ESET Smart Security 8 / ESET NOD32 v8 to Windows Technical Preview (I'm currently using 10041 build of Win TP).

So after installing there is one problem which I found: HIPS module can't be enabled.
Fix for this is temporary (for me on latest build is untested) and that is enabling Pre-relase updates and clearing update cache. After you done all of that restart PC, and try to update ESS/NOD32.

If you find new problems while using Win TP and ESET tools, comment here

A:ESET Security tools and Windows 10 Technical Preview - buglist and some fixes

OK, here I'm to say that in latest TP build 10041 there is another issue (which I found before couple minutes ago) and that is crashing of GUI after some notifications about latest update. ESS restarted GUI, but that is one heck of problem right now. Maybe it is just me with that problem, didn't look at ESET Forums.

Also HIPS isn't fixed with pre-release updates (from expirience) in this build, maybe we need to wait ESET's reaction.

Emergency Management Services is a new feature in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 that supports remote management and system recovery for servers that are not accessible through a conventional connection. By using Emergency Management Services with other software and hardware components, you can remotely perform tasks such as recovering unresponsive servers and powering servers off and on, even when they are not accessible through a standard network connection. Emergency management services also supports headless servers—those without a local keyboard, monitor, or mouse. This document provides an overview of Emergency Management Services and its components. It explains how to choose and configure hardware and software that supports Emergency Management Services. It provides guidance for enabling Emergency Management Services, and information about using this technology to troubleshoot problems with remote servers.

So basically my girlfriend has Windows 7, I decided to upgrade her computer to the Windows 10 Technical Preview to fool around with it a bit more.
My question is, once its released on July 29th, will I be able to get the FREE copy I was originally supposed to get or am I stuck with the technical preview version?
How does Microsoft know I used to have Windows 7?
She has the Chinese version, so when I upgraded it converted everything to Chinese and I had to change all the settings to English. Will I be able to download a FRESH english ISO and upgrade to that for free?

I do not want to be out of line, nor post something already posted, but I'm at a loss here. Downloaded win10 tech preview, and now it is expired. Build 9926. I do know that it is outdated, but did not get back to it in time.\
Now, it is leaving me a warning that my computer will shutdown every 2-3 hours, and eventually not restart at all until I install a new operating system.
This seems quite harsh on Microsoft's part, but I did not keep up with it. This is on an Acer netbook, previous 8.1, maybe two years old. I have been on the horn with Microsoft 4 times, and they tell me I will have to purchase (?) another copy of 8.1 in order to get Windows 10. I must be missing something, but I don't know where to turn.
The first technician got into my computer remotely, verified its authenticity, and went to a website to download win 10. It seemed to go well for a couple of hours, and then the comp. shut down! When it came back up, nothing.
Can anyone help me with this? I can't afford a new Operating system.

As a retired IT manager with time on my hands, I decided to give the Windows Technical Preview a try last year. I had installed the Win7 preview a few years ago, and was impressed enough that I broke the cardinal rule of MS based IT shops "NEVER Install a dot zero release!" and actually installed Win7 when it first came out. I skipped 8 because it was so obviously intended for tablets/touchscreens. But when they announced the 10 preview, it looked like MS was trying to lure us old-timers back. So I installed the technical preview on an 18 month old Toshiba Satellite(dual-core CoreI5 [Ivy-Bridge], 8 GB memory 500GB HDD) that does not have a touchscreen. I didn't install the first release, but I think it was the second version. Through November, December and January I used my lap top frequently and installed updates as they came along. I didn't find any compelling reason to like the preview, but it ran all of my software fine and I had few problems.

In February, I became busy with my volunteer job, managing a free tax preparation site, so the use of my laptop dropped as I worked mostly on my Win7 desktop. I continued to use my laptop sporadically, and was getting more and more concerned about Win10. I disliked that it automatically assumed all networks I signed into were public. And while I figured out how to change them to work or private, it wasn't obvious. Then there was the disappearance of the Control Panel. Spartan came along a couple of weeks a... Read more

Hello everyone, starting with this post, please post here with any updates/news about new builds that are released for the Technical Preview of Windows 10, this will keep a nice timeline of updates and will keep the general Windows 10 forum clean and organized. This post will be unpinned when Windows 10 is officially released.
Please do not post a new topic in the Windows 10 forum about new builds and news about them, instead post it here in this topic.
You may discuss each build here, but if you have a problem with a build that you would like help with post it in a new topic in the Windows 10 forum, that way you can receive help with that issue.
It would be helpful if you could put the build number at the top of your post along with what track it is in so others can easily find that information and then read about it.

A:Windows 10 Technical Preview Update thru Win7's windows update

Don`t do it on your Windows 7 machine. Uninstall the update and hide it, if that`s what you mean.

Installing 10 to your W7 partition should have no affect on your recovery partition, but I wouldn`t chance it, no way.

Install Windows 10 on a separate drive, first unplugging the W7 drive, they do not dual boot well together.

Install 10 in a VM if you really want to look at it, it is nothing special and not worth the effort.

Hello Windows Insiders!

Today we are releasing Project Honolulu Technical Preview 1712 Build 05002 to Windows Server Insiders.

Project Honolulu is a flexible, lightweight browser-based customer-deployed platform and solution for Windows Server management scenarios for troubleshooting, configuration and maintenance. Project Honolulu Technical Preview 1712 Build 05002 is now available to Insiders before the public.

What?s New in Project Honolulu Technical Preview 1712 Build 05002
We?ve added a couple top requested features in Virtual Machines and continued with the performance enhancements that lead to faster load times and page rendering.

Virtual Machines
Based on high customer request, we now support viewing and changing VM settings while a VM is running, similar to how you can in Hyper-V Manager. On Generation 2 VMs, you can change general settings, memory setting, checkpoint setting and add disks and network adapters.

You can also enable nested virtualization when creating a VM, or from the processor settings of an existing (stopped) VM. This is functionality that was previously only accessible from the command line.

Administrative events are now displayed.

Performance improvements
The new data grid control has been added to all tools except the HCI solution and Storage Replica.

I have one machine running Windows XP and I am unable to make a connection via RDP to Windows Server 2016.
I have managed to make successful connection to Windows 2012 and even Windows 10 with latest build.

I have edited these registry keys
-adding tspkg
-adding credssp.dll
Also updated RDP client on winXP to 7.0 enviroment

I have tried 2 different machines with 2016 system.
The connection is not refused by any error (EventViewer is empty on both machines). RDP ask for credentials and then show message "Cant connect to the remote computer try it later"
Do you have any ideas how to solve it ?

Thanks for any help

Dear IT Pros,
I have 2 questions that need your help and professional advice.
1) Does Microsoft has a tool to check whether a patch (KB) was superseded by another KB? In my case, I'm trying to search whether this KB4022715 and KB4025339 (both of this KB was released in 2017) was superceded
by another KB. This is because a security consultant has advised us to install both of this KB to prevent vulnerabilities but since it was released back in 2017, I suspect there must be a newer KB that supercedes it
2) Can advice what KB I need to download regarding this 2 bulletin ID CVE-2017-5715 and CVE-2019-11135? Can't seem to find it after much googling

Thanks in advance for the help
