Sleep mode not working Windows 7

Q: Sleep mode not working Windows 7

I just upgraded my computer to a new mobo and CPU and for some reason sleep mode won't work. I can put the computer in sleep mode but it won't wake up. Everything turns on (Fans, hard drive, PSU) but no picture on the monitor. Also no BSOD error.
After typing in CMD and running as Admin then typing powercfg -a the results were this: The system firmware does not support this standby state.
Has anyone have a clue how to fix this cause everything is all up to date with a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit. Or does it mean Windows 7 don't like the new CPU? I don't have to use sleep mode but I rather use it if I can.
See picture below.
Besides this small problem the computer works great very fast.
I was told by AMD tech that this CPU can go up to 4.5GHz stable and he said everything is set right. I had the CPU core voltage set at 1.55V I ran AMD Overdrive for 4 hours with no errors at this setting( 4.41GHz @ 1.55V)

I've been using Windows 7 without any problems for a few months. However, recently I've encountered problem with the Internet when returning my laptop from Sleep Mode.

Upon returning from Sleep Mode, my Windows Live! Messenger will load normally and remain working. But the browsers (Firefox, Chrome, etc.) will work for a few minutes and then will stop working, as though they are not connected to the Internet. The strange thing is it only affects the browser. I'm using LAN most of the time. There's once I tried switching on Wireless and I got my Internet on the browsers back. However, the next time when my computer returned from Sleep Mode, the same problem happens to the Wireless connection as well.

Hope someone here can offer me some advice.

Thanks.

A:Internet not working when Windows 7 comes back from Sleep Mode

Try the following repairs. Another possibility is a corrupted non-Windows firewall or security suite.

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

I am extremely frustrated with the issue my computer has developed ever since I upgraded to Windows 10. I have a Dell Inspiron 7537 and any time I try to close my laptop lid, thus activating the sleep mode, the monitor turns off but the computer does not fully go into sleep mode. I can still hear the fan running and my light-up keyboard remains lit. In addition, if leave it with the lid closed for a long time, upon attempting to wake the computer, I find that it is overheating and won't wake up. I have to hold down the power button and force shutdown. Because of this issue I resorted to powering down the laptop, however, I experienced similar problems. When I click the Windows key and elect the Power - Shut down feature, I get the same problems as described above.
I have tried everything to resolve this issue. I have updated all my drivers, including video, bios, chipset, etc. I have uninstalled Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver. I have tried changing all the power options to high performance, then balanced performance, etc. I have contacted Dell support who have run all sorts of scans but no resolution. I have contacted Microsoft Answer Desk several times and they have been completely useless. Very quickly you can determine that they don't know what they are doing. One agent suggested that I simply create a new account. When that didn't fix the issue she disconnected the remote connection.
Can someone please help? Any suggestions? Even if it's to tell me ... Read more

A:Sleep Mode and Shut Down not working properly after Windows 10 upgrade.

I had the exact same issue I know how frustrating it can be. Initially I removed my video/graphics driver and installed the driver compatible for Windows 8.1- 64 bit (from dell driver download page). It resolved the issue. Few days ago I installed the updated driver for windows 10 64bit, posted in the dell driver page. Still it is okay and sleep/hibernation is working properly, I think it should also work for you. Please let me know if it works and if you need further assistance.

I'm having a rather strange problem. I have windows 7, and I'm having a problem with iTunes and Windows Media Player. They work fine, but if I put my computer in sleep mode while one of them is running, or even sometimes if they are not, when I open my laptop again iTunes and Windows Media Player both don't work. I can see the icon for iTunes on the bottom right, but if I click it nothing happens. If I open WMP and try to play a song, it freezes up and I have to use the task manager to close the program. If I shutdown or restart my computer, everything works fine again, but the problem occurs again the next time. I also sometimes have this problem with hibernate mode, but more often with sleep.

Welcome to SF.

Did you know about screensaver and sleep mode?

Quote:
Sleep is a power-saving state that allows a computer to quickly resume full-power operation (typically within several seconds) when you want to start working again. Putting your computer into the sleep state is like pausing a DVD player—the computer immediately stops what it’s doing and is ready to start again when you want to resume working.

Screensaver doesn't run in sleep mode because it pauses the system operation.

Alright I recently bought a Acer Aspire 5100 that came pre-installed with Vista on it so all drivers are vista compatible and all the drivers are the newest and updated.

Now when it comes to going into sleep mode...It works on a 50/50 bases...Sometimes it goes into sleep mode perfect and works out good.

Other times it will just sit there...Do some activity on the hard drive and then just stop and screen goes black but the fan and everything is still running....I left it like that for a hour and it just sits there with the fan running and a black screen...After that I can not bring it back to normal operating unless I manually shut it down and reboot...Which looses all data in memory.

My mic doesn't work after I wake my computer from sleep mode. To get it to work, I have to unplug my mic, shut down all my applications that use a mic, plug my mic in, then restart the applications. It works, but it's a bit of a nuisance to do that every day.

Is there a way to fix this issue?

A:External mic not working after sleep mode.

Generally (in many cases) that is related to a driver. Update the sound driver and see if that helps. If you have integrated (on the motherboard) sound, use the driver from the motherboard vendor (I assume you have installed a non-Gateway motherboard from your specs). Sound drivers can be tricky and many times non-vendor sound drivers either do not work or do not work correctly.

I have tried restarting the computer for real, running a virus scan, closing the lid while unplugged as well as plugged in, and making sure that my graphics settings support sleep mode. I don't think it could be a setting as these are the same settings that worked yesterday, nor do I think it would be a hardware problem as the computer is just a few months old, but I don't know... Hi, I wasn't sure where to post this issue, so I'm just posting it here, feel free to move it if need be.

I have a custom built PC that I myself built. I've had it for 2-3 years now. From the time it was built until a few months ago sleep mode worked perfect. When I went to the start menu and clicked the little power button the computer would enter sleep and whenever I wanted to resume my work I would hit the mouse button or the spacebar and it would boot right back up where I left off.

Recently, however, that has changed. Now when I click the power button the computer seems to enter sleep mode but takes about a minute longer to do so. It will also not allow me to power back on with the mouse or keyboard, I have to use the power button. Then once I push the power button, the fans and lights power on but the display, which is HDMI, doesn't seem to be recieving either a signal, power or both. The same goes for any USB ports, as the mouse and keyboard do not light up or respond. I have to hit the physical reset button to get the computer to boot up correctly. When that is done I lose anything that was open or wasn't saved when I powered down.

I have gone into Control Panel>Power Options>High Performance: Change Plan Settings and everything seems correct to me. The display is set to never turn off and the computer is set to never sleep since those are based on time I would rather do it manually.

Advanced Power Settings looks like this;

Have a bit of a problem and need help! I'm running Win7 64bit and for some reason, in the last couple of days, the Screen Saver and Sleep Mode are not working. I have Screen Saver set to start in 10 minutes and Sleep Mode to start in 30 minutes (been that way for years). Neither one is starting now. I checked the settings and they are as they should be. I manually tested Screen Saver in the Personalize Box and it test just fine!

What could be causing these two items not to Start as scheduled in there, and what might be possible fixes?

Thanks for any insights!

A:Screen Saver and Sleep Mode not Working?

Sounds to me like a program(s) running in the background could be the cause of these 2 items not working the way they should be. When you are done with the system for the day etc; make sure you exit all programs completely. Try that and see if it starts working the way it should again. If not post back

I'm not blindly posting the issue. I have done research and followed other threads in order to troubleshoot the problem but to no avail.

I built my computer back in January of this year. Not up until a few days ago did I start having this issue. I can't think of any major changes I made in order to cause this. I can use my Logitech Mouse and Keyboard the wake the computer up from the sleep mode... but once it's up, neither of them are responding.

Things I checked for: Latest update on the USB drivers, Logitech Software update (including the PS/2 Driver) Windows update. I checked if the option is checked ON for 'Allow this device to wake up the computer' (and it is on). When other things are plugged in the same USB port, they work just fine after sleep mode, e.g. my drawing tablet...

I'm using Windows 7. The Logitech mouse and keyboard are sharing a unified receiver. If I put the computer to sleep manually and try waking it up using the mouse and keyboard, they both work just fine. Only when the machine falls asleep by itself that this issue occurs.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

I've had this problem for a while now and I REALLY got tired of it, so here goes: every time I put my PC to sleep mode, when I "wake it up" by pressing the power button, my Mouse and Keyboard either aren't recognized at all (although theres the normal LED flashing on them as if they were working) or they have other bugs, like for example the Keyboard is locked with a certain letter like A or something and it keeps spamming AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

The only way to fix it is to pull the USB plugs and put them in again - then everything is fine! But as I said above I got tired of unplugging+plugging the USBs of my keyboard and mouse every time, especially since I use sleep mode a lot throughout the day.

Thanks for your tips in advance,

Hashmeister.

I just got my new X1 Carbon. Unfortunately there seems to be a bug with the sleep mode. When I put the Notebook into sleep mode the Thinkpad LED blinks as it should be (indicating that the notebook is indeed in sleep mode). However: 1) Fans are still active and quite noise. I am in a Hotel room and the Notebook should be quite during sleep mode.2) Battery consumption is insanely high. It was almost full when I went to bed and at 10% next morning. Having a functioning sleep mode is very important to me, as I like to put my Notebook away without second thought. Hello,

I have laptop Sony VAIO with intel core i3 and nvidia geforce with cuda (well, had).
Few months ago nvidia disappeared completely, windows aero is not working (that's how I noticed something is wrong) and sleep mode is not available (when I close my laptop it turns black but it's still running - doesn't log me out or anything). I tried antiwiruses (I have avast and tried anti malware), I googled it many times and found some explanations and advises like running performance test (which didn't work btw, it says test can't be done due to... many reasons, nothing in particular) or clearing more space (I deleted around 100GB, right now I have 200GB of free space). I was worried it's some kind of weird virus since my mom was using my laptop and she is usually visiting not safe websites, but I can't see any harm besides lack those three things. It's not running slow or anything, nothing disappeared, etc. I really tried looking for an answer and I hope somebody here will help me. I really appreciate any feedback!

I've had my ASUS for only a few months and it works like a charm, but I noticed a few days ago that it's not going into sleep mode anymore. The only changes I've made were:
1. Installed nod32 (antivirus)
2. Changed my desktop wallpaper
3. Installed the Adobe update

That's it. I didn't change anything else, but now my screen will stay lit up all night if I don't turn it off.

I tried turning the screensaver on, and it works in Preview, but never turns on on its own. I tried changing my wallpaper back. I changed the timing on the power settings. I've turned it off several times. I tried unplugging it and letting it run on battery. I'm using the Balanced power management option. I tried changing the power management option. Nothing works for me.

I've read that other people have similar problems. Sometimes it's a program running in the background that Windows sees as user activity... one guy said he uninstalled Norton and reinstalled and that fixed his problem. Sometimes it's an optical mouse, some random device plugged into a USB slot, or weird settings. There are a lot of people complaining about it, and now I join their ranks. I have no idea what to do.

A:Sleep Mode, Screensaver, Power Options not working

Asus customizes Power Options with many reports of dysfunction - another example of how useless factory utilties have much better versions built into Win7.

Enter Control Panel>Power Options and choose a Balanced Plan unless you're a gamer, use High Performance. Then set your Sleep options.

Screensavers are outmoded with LCD monitors and can hang sleep. I would turn it off and use Win7 backgrounds slideshow. You can download 120 spectacular Win7 national edition screensavers: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/0...free-download/

If Sleep still hangs check your logs here especially the Performance log which logs these types of hangs with the cause often nearby.

For sleep

Make sure the Network Adapter isn't waking the computer. Go to Device Manager>expand network Adapter>Right click Properties on your interface card>Go to Power Management>Uncheck "allow this device to wake computer" and hit ok. it should let the monitor go to sleep.

On Autoplay control panel there is a Reset to Defaults did you try that.

Hi, I put my laptop to sleep mode (AC Adapter on) for 7 hours, then both trackpoint and touchpad stopped working. OS is Windows 10 pro. I updated the UltraNav, the auto-detect system update webpage shows that I am using a T470 (Type 20HD, 20HE) Laptop (ThinkPad), and "No drivers are required to update for your machine". And also I load the setup to default from BIOS (both trackpoint and touchpad are "ON") None of the current solutions I can find on the forum works, so please help me !

Hello everyone,

My system suddenly stopped responding to the sleep command. The monitor goes blank but the system keeps on whirring away.

I have gone through google and tried a few things and the best one so far was to run powercfg /energy, which has produced some results that I dont understand.

Its 2 pages and I would be very grateful if you could help me get to the bottom of this problem.

Thanks in advance
Peter

Hallo all,I have a brand new Thinkpad L380 Yoga, and strangely the Fingerprint scanner did not work after waking up from sleep mode. I have tried to uninstall the fingerprint driver, try to update it from Lenovo Vantage, and i come to no avail.Strangely, it also doesn;t work in the Windows Hello dialog, where you have to input a new fingerprint (This also happens after waking up from sleep mode though) Please help me. THis is not a deal breaker, but annoys me; n/b: The fingerprint is listed in device manager as synaptics-sgx

I would appreciate your help with a problem I am having with my Yoga 700.   I put my laptop into sleep mode last night instead of turning it off.  When I turned it on again this morning, neither the touchpad nor the keyboard was working.  The touchscreen still works and so does a USB mouse.  The keyboard backlight still activates when I boot the laptop and the keys work fine in UEFI and on the blue Windows Recovery screen to access Safe Mode but neither works in Safe Mode itself.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers but that has not worked. I tried a system restore but that has not worked.  I have also tried holding down the power button for 15+ seconds and restarting with the main power supply connected but that did not work either. Any advice on what to do to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

A:Monitor randomly flickers to sleep mode and back while im working...

Some system details like the make/model of the monitor, the video card, and the version and patch level of Windows in use would be real useful here.

I bought an used x240 8 months ago, a few months back it started not waking up from sleep but since I had work to do on it for university I left it that way and waited. Now that I'm done I'm trying to resolve the issue and it seems quite common. I tried everything I found online without success. Then I read that there were some bios updates and in the changelog the of the last one it says they fixed issues with sleep mode. Now I tried to install it from windows 10 and from usb since I usually only work with linux. The result is always the same:I boot inside the update utility, follow the instructions and when it reboots the lenovo splashscreen appears but it does not say anything about updating the bios (I saw it should on youtube). Needless to say, when I go inside the bios setup it indicates the version is still 2.37.I already tried changing bios settings in every possible way. If I can obtain a USB CD drive I'll try using that instead but in the meantime can anyone help me?

Hi,

I have a Prot?g? Z10A and the touchpad and keyboard intermittiently stops working after sleep mode. I cannot wake it up or restart without re-booting.

I have done the update to the firmware keyboard docker as advised in a thread on January 2014 but this has not helped the problem.
This computer is only 2 weeks old.

I have been to download site and updated all drivers and updates.
The computer works perfectly except for this problem.

When the tablet is asleep the white led is blinking, and when it is all works ok, but if the light for some reason is not blinking but permanently lit then it will not restart and I have to re-boot the tablet.

I have disabled the hibernation mode in options but still no help.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
mm

Hi

I?m wondering if the option (within the BIOS) called Wake-Up on Keyboard is enabled.
To restore the operation of the computer from sleep mode, press the power button or any key on the keyboard dock for a short amount of time. But the keyboard keys can only be used if the mentioned option is enabled.

Note: when the notebook is in Sleep Mode, the power indicator will blink white. If the power indicator does not blink white, the notebook isn?t set to sleep mode!

Hi,
I've had this problem intermittently on my laptop for the past 2 years however it has been occuring more often recently.

Basically sometimes when I click the sleep button on Windows 7, the screen fades to black as usual. However the fan keeps running (sounds like when it's on full load) and the power button light stays on endlessly. I always have to force shut it down and restart it.

What can be the issue?
Thanks.

Hi joseph10444.

Such a situation may occur when some driver (mostly the PnP device drivers depending on the ACPI configuration) fail to response within a stipulated time period during the power state change.

Let us see some data. Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
Those files will give us a closer look to the issue.

I just had the fan replaced, and now when I use F4 to put the laptop in sleep mode and then close the lid, it remains in sleep mode when I open the lid.  Same thing occurs when I close the lid (no F4) for sleep mode and then open the lid.  However, when I select Sleep on the Windows 7 Start Menu and close the lid, the laptop does resume when I open the lid. NOTES:- Before replacing the fan, I used F4 for sleep and resume, because when I close the lid I would sometimes find the fan running the next morning- BIOS is up-to-date- Keyboard and mouse are set to wake PC- Power Options Settings:   - Allow hybrid sleep set to OFF and Hibernate set to NEVER (As they always have been)   - USB Settings > Disabled USB selective suspend settings  (These were enabled) While this isn't a huge problem, I would like to have things working as before, preferably without having to go back to the Lenovo certified shop. Thank you in advance for your help. Jeff

For a few days only ! After my laptop has been in sleep mode for a long time only. When waking from sleep mode ThinkPad USB-C Dock Ethernet has no network connection. I select 'troubleshoot problem', it then resets 'ThinkPad USB-C Dock Ethernet' and say that the problem has been fixed.  It says the 'default gateway was not available'. All my Bios, drivers and USB-C firmware are up to date! Do you have any idea ? Thank you
