I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Have you looked for a patch for the program? Sometimes also Windows will have an update that will fix compatibility problems with certain software, but I think a patch for the program would be more likely. You may end up having to change some settings somewhere, but I don't know what that would be. Also make sure that your graphics/physics card has the latest stable drivers, as a last resort (I say last resort because sometimes earlier versions of a driver can work better with some programs than newer ones).

My Aspire TC-705 crashed.  It won't boot up.  error message says DVD drive is missing driver.  I wasn't too worried at first because my recovery is on a thumb drive.  It went through whole installation process but on re-boot it started all over again.  Endless loop.  I tried all the repair options available with no success.  I went to the command prompt and ran the scan and repair.  It scanned fine but could not make the repairs.  One online source said if nothing worked the hard drive may be damaged.  I put a new hard drive in but there was no improvement.Where do I go from here?

"Operating System not available" This computer is only a couple months old but when I called Dell Tech Support I was told that my warranty is only for hardware and that I would have to pay for software assistance. Can anyone tell me how to re-install Vista without losing all the data that I just transferred to my new computer? The Tech Support guy was nice enough to tell me that it is possible, right before he told me that in order for him to tell me I would have to pay!!! My computer won't log on, but I can get to functions F2 and F12, but I can't get to F8 for some reason. Thanks!

A:HELP! Computer crashed and I now get an error message saying

I am surprised dell did not help you, since it's very likely that this is an issue with a failed hard drive.

Hi everyone

My system is a dell dimension 3100, P4, 80GB hard drive and 1.25GB of ram.the system is 3 years old.

i hope some one can help me with this problem. About 10 days ago i stupidly in error compressed some of my system files, the next time i tried to boot windows it kept giving me strange error codes " floppy diskette not found" "drive 1 not found" i went into bios and turned the culprits off and rebooted, all i got was a flashing "-" in the top left hand corner of the screen. I will say at this point that i dont have a floppy drive, and there isn't a disk 1 input on the mother board.

i have trawled through the teccy websites and cannot find a answer to this problem, so far i have replaced the sata cable, the cmos battery and changed the bios by turning off the floppy and drive 1, i have unplugged everything from the motherboard and checked the connections.

I then used my XP cd that came with the pc to try and repair/recover the files but it loads as far as video files and then i get the error message

The file i8042.sys is corrupted.

I am truly stuck now, the only thing i can think of regading the boot disk is that it is probably service pack 2 and my current configuration is service pack 3, would this make a diference?.

I would ieally like to recover the files on the hard drive so would appreciate any comments or help please.

Thanks for taking the time to read this rather long winded post and i look forward ... Read more

Can you help me. I have a Inspiron M301Z laptop that originally had Windows 7, but I installed the free Windows 10 upgrade.
I needed to have a ?System Restore? after it finished and rebooted, I got the error message ?A operating system wasn?t found. Try disconnecting any drives that don?t contain an operating system.
A full diagnostic test found no problems.
I would prefer to reinstate the original Windows 7 and Dell drivers, but I assume installing Windows 10 removed the Windows 7 installed on my motherboard.
How can I reinstall an operating system?

Running Windows XP Pro SP3

I keep randomly getting this error.

I found some information from 2003 that would lead me to believe that what I have is like the W32.Blaster.Worm documented back then, but after running symantec's specific tool to get rid of Blaster I ended up finding nothing.

Also, I've run many Malwarebytes scans, Spybot Search and Destroy scans and iolo Anti Virus scans(I know it's not the best but others seem to clash with my System Mechanic because it's set to work with the iolo one) which all turn up nothing.
This has been bugging me for a few weeks now while I tried to find out what was going on when I had the free time to run these long scans. At the same time my services.exe and one of my svchost.exe files are always running at about 10% of my CPU each and it definitely seems related to the NT AUTHORITY RPC errors I'm getting now.
Help with this will be extremely appreciated.

I'm having a problem with my sister in law's computer. Originally, she had that annoying XP 2008 virus/spyware, which I think I managed to get rid of with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware and System Mechanic 7. Now I have a new problem. After receiving a recent download from microsoft, upon restarting, I get the blue screen of death with this message;

STOP: C000021a (Fatal System Error) The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)

I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage since I'm not trained for this. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one. I have no windows CD. The computer is a Dell, and it's running Windows XP service pack 2 with Explorer 6. Heeeeeelp! Other than the F keys, I can't get anywhere with this computer.

I have first been getting these problems when I downloaded Comodo IS Pro. Apparently when I approached them for help, the technician did not reply to me after telling me to install.

Thus I did a system restore and the computer could load in normal mode(however the screen, etc loaded slow like hell.)

Yesterday, I downloaded comodo firewall and something familiar appeared

From Problem Reports and solution, these are the service that crashed:

4X svchost.exe
1X lsm.exe
1X sandboxie.exe
1X wininit.exe

But guard32.dll from comodo is the module causing it according to Problem Reports and Solution, but anyone knows why and how to solve it?

sub-forum: guides & solved issues

The above forum has information on how to use Recovery Console & Windows XP CD to restore the OS. Caution, I recommend full backup to a 2nd disk. Caution, don't enter 'r' to the first decision point. Caution: next decision made should not reformat the partition. If you have the ability to clone the hard drive, then you have a spare should recovery be re-done.

Other posts recommend configuring computer to a minimum: the boot hard drive, cdrom, and 1 memory module (256MB is the minimum for XP). This is an easier first step before reloading anything.

Caution: oem restore bombs you back to out-of-the-box conditions. All data & applications are overwritten. This is different from above restore.

You did not indicate what significant changes occurred preceding the problem. Is the hard drive entering old age? Was the disk re-partitioned? Were applications closing/freezing in the days leading up to this?

Hello all, I am new member and I have a problem that I can't seem to figure out! Please help me

Here is the wording of the error message:

Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run windows or a windows application. The windows registry or system.ini refers to this device file, but no longer exist. If you deleted this device file on purpose, try un-installing the associated application using it's uninstall or set up program. If you still don't want to use the application assoiciated with this device, try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file.

Since I bought Norton Internet security 2004, it has been a major problem. I have used the RNAV.2003 program to try and remove anything symantec on my PC. But for some reason, the problem is still here.

A:SYSTEM.INI error message

Since you didn't mention what version of windows you use, i'll assume it's windows98.
In that case, check the autoexec.bat and config.sys files for symantec entries ( usualy those are left behind ) and put a rem in front of symantec entry
for instance if you see in the autoexec.bat file the following entry
put a rem in front of it, and it should look like this
rem C:\Progra~1\Symantec.....
Save and exit.
If that doesn't work , then use the search tool in windows and locate the System.ini file
Once you locate it, go are and open it up with notepad. Once open locate the C:\Progra~1 entry and delete it ( i recomend, making a backup copy of the system.ini file before anything else).
Save and exit ( make sure the file type will be " All files" not " . txt ( since notepad will try to save it as system ini.txt file.

I am really desperate so I hope someone can help me :/

Guess I'll make a list of the many problems I am experiencing:
1. When I try to use the search function that is listed on my start button the screen freezes for a minute (but I can still move the mouse just nothing not even the task manager will respond) and then I get no response at all.
2. When using various programs such as internet explorer or a video game or even nortons, I sometimes get a message that says "Run time error program: C\windows\winlogo.exe this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."
3. Everytime I start up my computer the stystem 32 folder pops up and I have no idea how to stop this.
4. Sometimes my computer stops responding for no apparent reason and I have to hit the power and restart.

That is all I can think of for now. Just to give a little background on my machine...I took it to best buy and they removed the spyware/adware on my computer, ran a couple antivirus programs and removed 8 viruses, they downloaded all the latest drivers, directx, etc., and they performed an internal cleaning.
They told me there was no hardware damage.

My computer is a compaq, 512MB RAM, Pentium 4 1.7 ghz, geforce 2 nividia, don't know if this is relevant but I guess if anyone can help me you guys will ask for the info you need

Just the other day i was going to transfer some pictures from my memory card to my computer. When i clicked on my computer this window popped up and said

" Your computer was infected by unknown Trojan . It is dangerous for your system ( critical files can be lost!) Click ok to download the anti-spyware program to clean your system! ( recommended)

I knew from the start that it was fake cause i know windows doesnt display a message like that to let you know that kind of information. So i ran spybot search and destroy, Ad-aware and system mechanic 7 to try to make this annoying pop up message to leave me alone and all found nothing except spybot which was Win32.Agent.gvu i chose repair but i guess that wasnt the issue. After those 3 things i have tried it searched to see if someone else has had the problem and they have.. i have seen 3 sites telling people to download and run SmitfraudFix.. i ran this progam and didnt fix anything. For some people , they claim it has fixed their problem but not for me.
the website i found is www.spyware-techie.com/unknown-trojan-removal-guide and said to try to find keys in the registry.. i really dont know how to find them but i have been trying by going in the edit and find then trying to search for the keys they had listed. someone please help.. i cant click on anything more then like twice before it pops back up !

Thank you very much!!

Hi seijuro_hiko

Welcome to TSG!

I have split your post off into your own thread and moved it to the Security foeum. In the future if you have a Question/Problem please start a "New Thread". It get's too confusing trying to address two different people's problem in the same thread and you may get overlooked.
Please do this. Click here to download Hijack This. Un Zip it and click on the Hijackthis.exe.

Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

*Note: When you download Hijack This Do Not download it or UnZip it to a temp folder or to the desktop. Create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This and put it in that folder.

I have had my Dell 8700 for little over a year and have had problems from the beginning.  I am 72 years old, and I am at my wits end!!!

A hard drive was replaced in the summer of 2015, but I have still had problems with the computer shutting down and my having to refresh it to factory setting.

I thought updating to Windows 10 would solve some problems, and I did this in October, 2015.  Everything was fine until a couple of months ago.  The end result was when I tried to refresh the computer to factory defaults, it went back to 8.0 or 8.1, and I evidently lost something in the process.
Now, I cannot update to Windows 10 and when I tried to resinstall the Dell Operating System, I get for both:  "WE COULDN'T UPDATE THE SYSTEM RESERVED PARTITION."
I DO HAVE A SYSTEM BACKUP ON 20 CDS (MADE WHEN I HAD WINDOWS 10).  Could I reinstall the system with these backupdisks?  How do I do that?  I also have a Dell 2 Boot USP stick, I have a recovery stick, too, but it semed that when I used this, I received a message that not all files were recovered
What should I do at this point?

A:Error message when trying to update to Windows 10 or to reinstall operating system 8.1: We couldn't update the system reserved partition."

On MBR disk, Windows 10 requires a 500MB system reserved partition, while 100MB in Windows 7, so you can try to extend system reserved partition.
In disk management, you can only extend partition using the unallocated space next to its right side. so even if you shrink D: drive, the option to extend the efi partition is still grayed out. My suggestion is to use a third party software, AOMEI Partition Assistant, both the standard (free) or the Professional(paid) version can extend partition as long as there is unallocated space on that hard drive. to see more information read:

Hello RCW Updater is the name of the program that Acer installs to check for Acer-related program/driver updates. It seems as if yours has become corrupted, so go to Control Panel> Programs And Features & look for a program called Acer Updater. Click on it & select Uninstall (or double click). Once unistalled, restart your computer - the issue should now have gone. If you wish to reinstall a working version, go to Acer support & click on Drivers & Manuals. Enter your model details then click on the Application tab then download.

Hi! When I try to switch on my computer a black screen appear with this error:"The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly.Continued operation is not recommended and may cause unpredictable behavior that could result in random shutdown, data loss or possible system damage. The system will shut down in 15 seconds. To prevent shutdown and continue operation, press the Enter key now. " Do I have to bring it to a repair service point or can I solve this problem from home? Thank you in advance,Isabelle

On boot up, I get the following error msg-

Warning! Insert key pressed or Clock GEN. Watch dog reset.
Please enter them in setup, and save the settings before exit!

Pressing F1 makes it go away, and system runs as normal.
What does this mean, and how do I fix it(step by step).

Also, sites have appeared in my history in IE, I have not vewied these sights, and nobody else could have used the comp. As I have just got wireless broadband, could I have been "hacked", somebody else using my internet signal?? Could this history have come from other sites that i looked at, like a bahind the scenes type link or something?

I use Norton Antivirus, up to date.

These 2 problems started happening at the same time...

"Not enough storage is available to process this command."

This error message has recently started to appear after logging out of one desktop and trying to log onto another (It's a family computer with a desktop for each of the 4 of us.)

What happens next is really bizarre. When you try to log on to a desktop, the enter a password box appears. We have not set any passwords.

I suspect a virus is at work, but my up-to-date BitDefender Total Security 10.0 finds nothing.

After cleaning up the Balster Worm virus, I still get a virus warning pointinf at System Volume Information (se attached screen dump). The folder is protected. Any ideas?

A:System Volume error message

Er, no reply, so I thought I'd add some extra detail. AVG says it detects this residual effect of the Blaster virus, but cannot "heal" it. In terms of the System Volume Information folder, any ideas on how to access and delete files in that folder? There used to be old DOS tools that would enable you to do this kind of thing.

When I start XP and try to boot into regular mode I receive an "Operating System not found" message after the black/red "COMPAQ" screen and when I try to boot into Safe Mode it just restarts without that message.

Here's what preceded this: I downloaded a program called 3ivx, which I downloaded to watch .mov files on Windows Media Player. Not long after installing it Comodo popped up with the regular Internet Explorer "Allow-Deny" message it usually does when something wants to access the internet and it was in relation to 3vix. It had the x in the message it usually has when it's suspicious of a program's intention. Sorry, I forget exactly what the message was. I clicked Deny and afterward couldn't connect to the internet with IE. I clicked Allow when it popped up again shortly after and was able to access it just fine.
A while afterward I saw an icon of an exclamation point in a yellow triangle in the Taskbar which I couldn't right or left click. I was about to shut down some programs to reboot and then the computer froze. I turned it off manually and when I turned it back on I got the message mentioned in the first paragraph.

I'm not sure if 3vix had anything to do with it, but I figured it was important to mention anyway since it was preceding this problem.

A:Operating System error message

3vix might have had a cause in this but if your computer says No Operating System found then you will have to re-install your operating system. Find your Recovery CD and re-install Windows

Every time I have tried to use system restore since downloading Service Pack 2 I get an error message that the system restore was incomplete and cannot be done because "no changes have been made to my computer." Anybody know what is going on and how I can get system restore working again?

A:System restore error message

one option is uninstalling sp2, but I hear that may cause even more problems regarding your exact current situation......
system restore troubleshooting
Open a command prompt window. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, and then type CMD.
2. Press ENTER, and then type Net Start at the command prompt to make sure that the System Restore service is up and is running.

also this;
Start the System Restore tool at a command prompt
1. Restart your computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to start your computer in Safe Mode with a command prompt.
2. Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account that has administrator credentials.
3. Type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:

4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to restore your computer to an earlier state.

Hey All

I have a Dell XPS M1210 Win Xp system and yesterday when I turned on the laptop I recieved an error message reading "No bootable devices." when I seen that I automatically thought that it was my hard drive that had the problem. So, I ran the onboard diagnostics and everything that it was testing passed except for the Hard Drive which failed.

Before I proceed to buy a new HD i would like to know if there is something I could do because I have so much info on my computer that I need and I can't afford to lose any of them.

A similar problem happened a while back but it was not with the hard drive so I had to restore my laptop and I did lose everything.

So, if anyone could help me that would be great.
I don't recall downloading anything that would cause the laptop to act up.

A:system halted error message

There are no "security" issues evident in the Scanlog.

In Win9x I've seen this "type" of error associated with web cam or usb related installations.

Did you install anything new recently? How long has it been happening?
Looking at your startups, I'd be suspicious of the scanner.

Probably useless, but interesting:

I recently replaced an ailing fan in my machine and now I am getting an error message when I boot saying there is no system fan detected. The reason being is because the old fan plugged directly into the mobo and the new one uses a four pin molex connector which plugs into the power supply. I think the only cure is to splice the old connector onto the new fan so I can plug it back into the mobo but the problem is the old fan uses three wires(white, black, and red) and the new fan has only black(-) and red(+). What is the white wire for? Can I just use black and red and omit the white? Or is there some other way to hide or block the error message? By the way, the fans ARE working.
