I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

First of all I'm running Windows XP Pro with no service packs. I've had this problem on another computer but was never able to resolve the problem. In all of my folders the file sizes have no commas. For example, 11,608kb is displayed as 11608kb. The same goes for the task manager. I haven't changed or installed anything in the past couple of days and it just seems to have happened, just like on my other computer. It's more of an annoyance than a problem but I would like to fix it.

Hi BobLoblaw, welcome to BC.

Click Start > Run. Type in "intl.cpl" (no commas) and hit enter.

Also make sure the "Digit Grouping Symbol" is a comma.

We have a MAC machine running on BootCamp for Windows 8.1 as well as the MAC. It's been runing for almost 1 year. We found that on the Windows side (C:\ - BOOTCAMP) that this machine is only 4GB free space out of 371 GB. So we are starting to troubleshoot to find out what causing this.
We checked on C:\ drive (including Hidden file/folders) and select all the files and right click PROPERTIES to see the size and we found is 306 GB. So we are missing 66 GB !!!
Any ideas what causing this?
BTW ... we are running Windows 8.1 and we backing up via File History to external network device. But we now the fact that if the machine is not connected to the network, it backup to local disk. Now, we did setup to cache offline 5% of the disk BUT could be this is the issue?

Bootcamp is a Virtual Machine. It will expand or shrink the VM, depending on the needs.

Also the fact that Mac OS-X uses a more efficient way of handling Drive Space use than Windows does.

Easiest way to find out is to click on "About this Mac" and "More Info". Mac OS-X 101.

Disk Inventory X is one of the better programs out there that shows you what is using up drive space for Size of the folders and how many files.

This problem is very annoying.

In Windows XP when I open a folder, a music folder for example, it would display the total number of files in the folder and the total file size. Windows 7 does not do this, which is fine, I thought, I'll just highlight all the files with Ctrl+A, doesn't work, I have to click on 'Show more details' which is hassle.

And why such a arbitrary number 15?

Is there a registry modification to increase this number? To say, 9999?

So this is a very strange problem and I've scoured the internet for hours looking for any explanation, but have yet to find one.

So when I open up some sort of folder the explorer shows the normal details per file, including file size. The strange thing is that there are no longer and commas separating every 3 digits. For example, a file that used to read a size of 2,453,242 KB in the explorer now reads a size of 2453242 KB. Needless to say this isn't stopping me from using my computer, but its extremely annoying. Note that when I bring up the task manager, the RAM being used by programs also has its commas missing.

I'm using the most currently updated Windows XP and to my knowledge I haven't installed anything before or since this happened a day or two ago. The only non-perfect operation that happened around this time is my ATI Radeon graphics driver gave me a small issue and restarted its drivers after playing Oblivion. But it seems fine and back to normal. Needless to say I've also restarted my computer and the explorer shell itself and nothing seems to turn it back to normal. I don't want to do a system restore yet.

Anyone else ever hear of something like this?

I installed Windows 8.1 on a different hard disk, and am setting my most preferred settings on this new installation. According to the attached picture, I noticed that I was able to add this bottom grey bar that states the total size of the files in this folder only (kinda like how it was with XP), and completely forgot how to add this feature to File Explorer.

Do you remember how I did this?

Have you managed to come across anything like this anyone? Does it ring a bell?

For a few months, I'm guessing since around when Win 8.1 came out, "Save As" and the Browse file location icon have been opening Windows Explorer with some programs instead of my default file manger, XYplorer (default by the latter's settings). And the Windows Explorer window that does open is full screen without any size adjusting facility, that is, neither in the top right corner or by dragging the sides (the arrows are there but there's no drag). Two programs I use frequently that are exhibiting this are Internet Download Mgr and PDF X-Change Viewer. This wasn't a problem before recently under Win 8 or Win 7. Any ideas? Did MS make some changes in this regard with 8.1? (Win 8.1 Pro x64). Thanks,

Did you copy/paste the file itself or just its contents?

If you did copy/paste the file itself it's the same as a "file copy". If there is an error it's reported on the screen! There are many checking mechanisms on disk like CRC check for example (google yourself). And drive firmware itself can check if write was succesfull.

You have to trust win7 or the program that copies.... you can't check if 1000's of files are copied succesfull manually.

Another question about file ownerships - I tried to do a backup once, during an OS re-install, many files came back garbled, with file names switched around, many picture files had a file size but would not open, even if I changed the extensions, etc.

It seems easier to just copy files to an external, then copy back, than doing the windows backup. Is this what other's have found?

I am having issues with the way file trees open and scroll in Windows Explorer.

I have explorer configured to resemble the classic Windows file manager look; drive and directory tree on the left, files displayed in a detailed list format on the right.

When I click a folder in the tree to expand its contents, depending on the amount of items in that folder, the left pane usually scrolls. The problem I am having is that there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to the scrolling method. Sometimes the folder I am working in jumps to the very top of the window, sometimes it jumps to the middle, sometimes it jumps all the way to the bottom. When it jumps to the bottom, I have to scroll both panes to see the contents.

Is there a way to mitigate this behavior? I'd rather the folder simply stay put, or maybe jump to the top of the window at the worst. Having it drop to the bottom of the window (which seems to be the case more than 70% of the time) gets annoying because I am constantly having to adjust and scroll to view the contents.

Just recently i faced a problem regarding my Internet Explorer 6.0 service Pack 2. I noticed that first of all Search engines like Google,Msn and Yahoo and Even Microsoft.com all had small font sizes. It was not the same as before. The size of the font is reduced now since before it has been bigger or to say normal.
I don't know why this happenned cause I didnt change any properties or settings of internet explorer. I am suprised how this can happen automatically without anyone changing the settings.

I also then noticed that this website tech support forum and some other websites inmcluding newspapers websites displayed font sizes normal or bigger as they were before.
That lead me to the conclusion that only some websites has the problem but why all the search engines font too had reduced.

Just to be sure i checked the same websites which gave me a problem including the search engines and microsoft.com on another PC and noticed it was normal on that PC and the font sizes were not at all small.

Then Why did this occur on my PC ?
How should i solve this issue, Please tell me what to change or do?
Please help me to solve this problem out as it is very difficult to read th text on these websites that have this problem.
