Hi there, question about license keys... I have a retail copy of Win 7 Pro. I would like to install it in a virtual machine on my current computer and use Anytime Upgrade to upgrade it to Win 7 Ultimate.

When I finally purchase a new computer, can I use the same upgrade key to put Win 7 Ultimate on the second computer?

THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT: If I Upgrade a RETAIL Pro key, does it become a RETAIL Ultimate key, or does it become an OEM (in a sense) key that is tied to the computer on which I first install it?

Thanks in advance!!

Hey guys, I'm using Nividia GeForce 9800 GT video card, 500W power supply, 4g ram, and still I have major FPS lag when I play either of my only 2 games Warcraft 3 or World of Warcraft. I've tried to think of everything that might be wrong with my computer but I haven't found anything. I've updated drivers , checked my ram and my ram slots to make sure they were fine, as well as my video card and it's slot. Could anyone please help me out? If I missed out on thing I should mention please let me know. Also, this lag only happens in places where a lot of things happen like raiding, or big bg's(which are just places where 40v40 people fight eachother for those who do not know much about WoW). Thanks for the help guys, really hoping for any replies .

Since I got the old gpu (AMD Radeon 6950) and the new power supply (700 watt) from my brother I have been having these problems. Diablo 3 had some fps drops while engaging a big wave of enemies and sometimes my computer had some problems that programs weren't responding.

I actually wanted to upgrade my computer for a while and was hoping to fix some of my problems I have been getting (Maybe the gpu was having some problems, because of age?).
So I got the: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 (MSI), a new motherboard : ASRock B75 Pro3-M (CPUSocket), a new RAM: 8,00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz and a new Hard Drive: 932GB Seagate ST1000DM003-1CH162 (SATA).
I kept my CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.40GHz and my power supply: corsair cx750.

Since I have been using this build, my computer kept these problems and it has become even worse after 1-2 months. My league of legends started having really bad problems with having major fps drops to the 0-30 fps, sometimes it froze for a couple of seconds. I have been checking my temp for so far, because it's getting pretty warm in my room, but it never has been to a dangerous lvl and it got checked by some of my friends that have some knowledge about it, the highest my CPU got was about 60 degrees. I have tried to reinstall the client, but nothing helped.

I started playing World of warcraft aswell since a week ago and it was impossible for me to play. Fps keeps dropping from the 95 to 0-20. I noticed though when someone lvled up or someone joined somehow... Read more

Could be overheating or software issue. CPUs don't just die. On rare occasions with a heavy OC maybe. But modern CPUs as long as they are properly cooled will last. In fact a silicons chip lifespan is hundreds of years, OCing it would reduce it by what maybe 50%? By the time it dies it will already be obsolete.

hey, i woke up one morning, tried to turn this thing on, nothing.
took it to the shop, "oh sorry sir, you're cpu has lifted up and away from the motherboard, we had to put it back in place for you, but i`m afraid you'll ahve to re-install windows and your programs to get the drivers back" i said give it to me, i`ll do it myself, i back up some files through dos and decided a clean install was best, my computer hasn't been formated in 2 years, so what the heck.

do that, go to load windows, got some error, dont' rememebr what, but took it back and they said the original ram was bad and having conflicts. so the 32 was replaced with 128, plus a 64 we had put in a year ago. they loaded windows, but no drivers for the hardware already in like they said they would (burner and modem...) i installed the modem, no prob, the burner, looks fine.

i`m geting things loaded back in, then i decided to play some mp3s and surf the net, like i always did before, i could not switch a web page without the system stuttering, i mean performance and sound. i cant' do anything while playing mp3s or cds.

took it back in cause i thought it was the ram, they siad nope after testing. you're cpu is probably slightly damaged....blah blah blah, tried to put a new one in..many moons later nothign worked, gave back as is..... and now i`m stuck.

Hi guys!

I'm very desperate at this point... I just don't know what to do!

So saturday I bought a new MoBo and Processor for my Geforce GTX 560 to use CAD softwares and gaming. But as I played witcher 2 or darksouls (both on stupid steam) I got this weird crash:
After 1 minute or so of gamplay (note that the game plays flawlessy and in high configuration) the display goes black ( that's why the "kind of BSOD" ) and the system restarts. Attached you can find the minidumps and other infos..

PS1: I did manage to play yesterday after reinstalling everything possible, drivers, windows update, CCleaner, you name it!.. but when I tested witcher 2, stupid steam installed directx 11 and there goes hours of work gone! I tried to restore to a previous restore point but no avail. The max temperature I got for the GPU while playing Darksouls yesterday was 60?c.

PS2: I had no problem playing darksouls on my crappy previous system. I played 44 hours of witcher 2, but not on high settings of course.

PS3: I'm aware that this problem could be hardware, so I took it to a local PC shop and the guy did all the memory, GPU, PSU(wattage, voltage) test, so that basically narrows it down to drivers conflict.. I think.

Please... what shall I do!?!??!
Sorry for the "Bible" lol

I subscribe to Technet. Yes - most MS products are available for download, together with CD keys (I believe you can reapply for new keys 5 times, I havn't tested that - with 10 activations per key thats a lot of opportunity). You don't, of course, get the package glitter if you download and the burning etc is your own responsibilty.
You just have to weigh the advantage of paying a high price for that software, against how much useage you will give it.

I have a question regarding PC gaming, since I realy dont know as much as I would like to.
My question is what role does my CPU play in gaming? Is it a big thing? I always thought that having a strong, powerful graphics card was more important that a powerful CPU. Is there a particular thing that the CPU does in PC gaming that makes having a strong one essential?

A:What role does my CPU play in gaming?

Your CPU is vitally important and is the landstick by which you would get power out of any graphics card. A strong CPU will get the most out of the graphics card whereas a weak one won't be able to process the images fast enough to make however powerful a card you have worth its cost. CPU>Graphics Card in gaming. The graphics card is still important but a weaker processor will cripple the overall capacity of your graphics card, however flashy.

The article — based on anonymous source — was torn to pieces by security professionals, who pointed out that the real problem was an NSA employee taking NSA malware home and storing it on his personal computer, where Kaspersky software was installed.

The US govt knows how much pressure they put on M$ and other software creators to put back doors in for them and they rightly figure the Russians do the same.

My college currently offers me Windows 8.1 Embedded Industry Pro through DreamSpark. I know that this version of Windows is designed to be used in kiosks and business sale systems; but would it work as a general OS for my computer? I've seen other people

For example, on a normal 8 install if I search for Netflix and I don't have the App, I get suggestions on where to download it. For me, it will display no results if I don't have the program/app Im searching for locally.

Our company started using Dynamics CRM in May of this year, and it seems the uptake on it wasn't what we expected. Other than BCM (which was a pain to migrate from), what would be something we could move to that would be cheap/free that we could move our customer data to? I was thinking maybe Salesforce, but with the number of sales reps we have, we'd need more than 5 accounts which would mean we'd need to spend $65/month or more to accommodate our business. Currently, MS CRM is $44/month.

If anyone has suggestions I'd like to hear them. Thanks in advance!

i connected my xp and vista boxes by that ethernet wire through a DSL modem

i mapped X: in XP as some folder of vista and transferred some 100 MB of files.

I have following queries:

1. why is the speed so slow? its like 2.75 MBPS. Hard disk to Hard Disk is 18 MBPS.

2. When i transfer x MB of data, whats the role of ISP in it. Does this x mb go to ISP server and then it comes back? I have a [broadband] monthly bundled plan of 2 GB. Does transferring 2GB data, cost me ALL my 2GB alloted by my ISP. If Not, whats the role of ISP in all this. I observed if the xDSL line is switched off while MODEM is ON and both computers ON, DATA TRANSFER is not possible, as it can not connect to internet.
When i am talking between two computers only, why is Internet connectivity so necessary? I observed connecting the Ethernet wire directly between both PCs doesn't allow them to connect.

3. I also used Remote Desktop Connection.
a) Though RDC initiated from XP to Vista was perfectly possible, the converse was not true. The Vista PC simply could not find the other XP PC, while it could find in Mapping Network Drive.
I remember that i disabled some services as in Here.

I also tried to enable some of them, but no respite.

I was forced to think does vista really suck.

b) In RDC is any Data transfer possible? ie in XP vista was shown, its appeared that xp's monitor was connected to Vista's CPU, and connected to its own CPU as well. But how to share files? Suppose i had a File... Read more

A:Role Of ISP in Networking, Remote Desktop Connection

What is the brand and model of your "DSL modem"?

1. Hard to say; something else competing for network bandwidth or something else competing for CPU or hard drive or memory on one or both computers maybe.

2. The ISP and the modem have no role in LAN transfers. I'm assuming that you have a modem/router combo, and the LAN transfer will be totally handled in the ethernet switch part of the router.
You realize, don't you, that direct ethernet connection between computers requires a cross-over cable unless one of the ports is auto-sensing?

3. a) Is the XP Pro or Home? RDC enabled? Non-Windows firewall blocking?
If you disabled services w/o knowing why and what you were doing I don't expect I can help.

b) I don't remember, and don't feel like looking at the documentation now.

c) Yes for RDC; no for the others. UltraVNC may serve you better. Note that the first item in "Key features" is "file transfers"!

You seem to be doing OK on networking basics. Just round out your knowledge now with some web searches and especially with some reading and questions here.

I am trying to install the Hyper-V role through the Control Panel - Programs and Features - Turn a Windows Feature On or Off.
When I check the box for Hyper-V, it searches for the files, acquires them, and applies the changes. It then says "Windows completed the requested changes" and asks me to reboot.
As the computer is turning off, it shows that Windows is working on updates. It gets to 30% and power cycles the computer. When it is booting back up, it shows Windows is working on updates. However, when it gets to around 90% - 96% it will say:

After that message is displayed, it will power cycle the computer again. This time, when it is coming back up, it will display:

Hi Doorules

One really needs to understand what these Statistics are really telling you.

When W7 came out things like smartphones were relatively new and for Internet, Chat, email, etc one ALWAYS used a laptop or desktop computer.

Now we use a variety of devices -- sometimes people can go for WEEKS without going near a PC. Their phones provide all the communication they need.

Not only that recent hardware is so much more powerful and reliable that it doesn't need upgrading or changing very often anymore -- and todays economic situation makes people really THINK if they NEED to upgrade before buying a new PC.

This of course alters the whole base line on which data should be presented. - For all GOOD reasons the numbers of PC's being sold today is falling and will continue to fall --although PC's for... Read more

The anti-virus industry scam
By Richard Forno
March 12, 2004

One has to wonder how the anti-virus industry sleeps well at night. On one hand, it purports to serve the world by defending our computers and networks from any number of electronic critters and malicious code. On the other hand, sometimes its "cure" is worse than the problem its companies and products allegedly treat. Add to that a decades-old concern over business, market share, and publicity, and you have all the ingredients for a confused industry, product, and service. This situation regularly benefits the antivirus software industry and victimises its customers.

Let's start with malicious code outbreaks in general. Unlike hurricanes and tsunamis, there is no standard way of naming malicious code - and thus is the greatest problem facing the antivirus industry. Gone are the days when simple names like "Jerusalem", "Michaelangelo" and "Stoned" were accepted and used by all antivirus vendors and their products. This has been something I've wondered for many years and today I thought I would try and find out. Unfortunately my Google searching skills haven't been of any use to me on this subject.

Basically I've been working in the IT industry around 8 years now. I started as a trainee, moved onto Helpdesk, Service Desk, 2nd Line and now I'm like and advanced 2nd Line/Novice 3rd Line. Throughout my career I've always been told by my supervisor/manager/boss that we don't install Access, the users don't get Access, we don't support Access, etc. and I've always just gone with the flow. I got sucked into it myself and often find myself feeding our customers and users garbage about why MS Access is rubbish when in actual fact I have no idea why it isn't liked.

It's not just my current company it's been most companies I've worked for. Just this morning someone asked for MS Access to be installed and my boss has told me not to install it. When I ask why I just get the "company policy" rubbish! Does anyone know what MS Access is so hated? The only reason I can think of in my head is that it's complicated to support? I've never actually had the chance to support it and although it's installed on my laptop at work and at home I've never used it. I'm just curious!

windows embedded is more than you need , this definition from a google search ! I would think win8.1 basic would be good enough for you to get or pro if so desired but you don't need windows embedded

Hi EF!

I have a dreamspark account and in that I am provided with the Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro . So, I was thinking if there are any differences in that one and also would I be able to use it like a Home User?

I am also getting the Server 2012 Datacentre Edition. So which one should I go with? I plan to use VM's in the future though.
