Sleep Problems with Acer Aspire 4530-6823

Q: Sleep Problems with Acer Aspire 4530-6823

I just got this Acer Aspire 4530-6823 a couple of weeks ago. It's running on Vista Home Premium 32bit. I've been using the computer for many hours a day and I have wireless on all the time. I deleted some bloat ware... hope these are not the reasons why the following is happening...

So the problem... sometimes I close to lid to go to sleep, and it doesn't. In fact, it will restart and say that it recovered from an unexpected shut down. What scared me was the blue screen error I got today. In addition, it now takes longer to go from the password screen to the desktop. It happens twice a day now... and this and other things in my life are making me really anxious.

What should I do? I know Vista has problems like these, so I was wondering whether I should just wait and hope Windows 7 is any better. Would it solve these problems? Also, if anyone knows my Acer model... is this computer the problem or is it the Vista? Thanks a ton!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

If sleep doesn't work it's probably drivers. Try updating your video and sound drivers. If the laptop is relatively new look for an option to create recovery discs first. As for the BSOD's/STOP errors there is a guide I've written in my sig if you want to debug them. If not, .zip them up and upload them.

I have an Acer Aspire 4530 Notebook. And once I upgraded to 7 Ive noticed problems with the sound. I have the latest windows 7 Ultimate Drivers 64 Bit for the built in realtek card from the acer website.

This is my problem. Sound works fine. Then When I go to adjust the volume either from the bottom right icon or the dial on the front of the laptop, (Sometimes this happens its not a 100% thing which Is weird) the sound just stops. There are no error messages and or anything you just cant hear anything. And this only happens sometimes. To get it to work again I have to restart a few times or completely power it off.

Anyone have any idea what this is?

Thanks in Advance.

Acer has a new BIOS version for your Notebook on thier support site, the date on the update is 11-17-09. It doesn't say anywhere that I could find just what that update was supposed to fix, so I am not sure if it would help you or not. Flashing a BIOS can be a tricky thing though, you might want to read up a bit if you have never actually done it before. You might try giving Acer support a call and see if they can give you more info on just what that BIOS update fixed before you try anything.

Just ruled out malware in other section of this forum. Laptop's integrated keyboard suffers intermittent lock-ups for no apparent reason (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, right now, doesn't). Touchpad seems deactivated (tried FN + F7 in case of accidental disable, but that's not the case), every option related to touchpad are grayed out in 'mouse' menu (config panel). Before malware check-up,tried system restore to last week, all problems were still there, so I reverted back. I have to use visual keyboard to type. Have to work with external mouse because touchpad doesn't work. Tried reinstalling touchpad drivers from Acer website, and didn't work. Computer worked perfect a few days ago.

Sounds like you may have some system files corrupt. This can occur after a lot of spyware. Some times just removing it dose not correct what it has already messed up. Your best maybe to back up your personal stuff. Then do a factory reinstall.

It is not on the list of devices that are supported for the upgrade to Windows 10, so I can't say how Windows 10 will work on the system. It does not appear we have Windows 10 drivers for this system online either. Maybe another user has tried installing Win 10 on this system and can provide some additional insight.

There is nowhere that I found ( and I know how to google) where I can get this thing to work. Therefore, I hope you guys and gals can give me a better idea on how to make my eyecam work ( at least marginally). It's not the biggest deal in the world, but it should at least work if it is part of my laptop. Appreciate any ideas or suggestions. Thnk you much,

Greetings All. Tipping a nod to Eister who is also having this issue with an Aspire 5534.See this thread I am building Acer Aspire S7 with a Windows 10 image and they have all been exhibiting this behaviour. If left unattended they go in to sleep mode and there is no way to gain access again except by performing a hard reset. Not good if you didn't save your work. It seems there is a change in the way Windows 10 behaves in sleep mode as we have seen a similar issue in Travelmate P645 models where, once in sleep mode, the Keyboard will not bring the device out of sleep.Only clicking the mouse (or touchpad) and moving the mouse (or your finger on the touchpad) will allow you to access the login screen. Performing some Google-Fu has shown a lot of Windows 10 users having this experience regardless of the hardware on which it is running. However, for the Acer Aspire S7 (and The Aspire 5534) it would seem there is a different issue. We have various BIOS versions on the S7 devices so am unable to determine if that might be a cause. I'd like to try and download the latest BIOS (once the Driver downloads service is back up), to see if that resolves things. Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution please? Regards David

I have to turn it down with power key. When I turn it on, everything works fine. Meaning problem appears only with sleep mode, turing it on/off works fine Please help.

Hello All....first time posting, so thank you in advance for any suggestions regarding a Black Screen problem. After upgrading my 6 yr. old Acer Aspire 5534 laptop from Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit to Windows 10 it frequently will not wake up from sleep.  Black screen with fan and blue power light on, but no response until I unplug the adapter and hold down the power button, then it starts up normally.  I am not an advanced user, but read for hours the last time it happened and did change Power Settings to uncheck fast start up, but that did not help. Then I read update video card driver, but when I went to the Acer Canada website I don't see any updates past 2009 when I purchased this laptop....other than this really annoying problem Windows 10 seems to be working well.

My acer active pen is not working consistently. The screen recognizes it sometimes, and other times it does not. The only way I can get it to recognize is by power cycling the pen (taking the battery out and putting it back in), or by power cycling the laptop. I replaced the battery so I know it is not a battery issue. I have an Acer Aspire R13 (Model #R7-371T), and recently upgraded to Windows 10.  I was having this problem earlier with Win 8.1, but it seems to have gotten worse with Windows 10.  I have updated to all the most recent drivers.  Very frustrating. Hi there
You need to tell your computer that you want to boot from a CD. When you first turn on the computer, do you see something along the lines of "Press F2 for setup" or something like that? if you do, go into the setup and change the "Boot Order" so that your CD drive appears higher up in the list. If you cannot figure that out, search for "Boot from CD" in google for tutorials.

Hello, I was wondering if somebody could help me with some problems I'm having with my Acer Aspire, run on Windows 7. So here's the problem, about a couple months ago, I went to go onto my computer, turned it on, and I noticed it was acting a bit slow, so as I go to click on the internet, it freezes up. And I wait for it for a good ten minutes to see if it will do anything, but no. So I was forced to crash it. I turn it back on, and it does the same thing! It was very frustrating. So I used "Safe Mode with Networking" so I could do all my basic internet stuff. But I tried to go back on regular and see if I could create a restore point. It restarted and everything fine, but only for about ten minutes. And I've tried and tried to do it again, and I just can't take it anymore! I don't have the money to have anyone fix it. I just need some help. I don't know what's wrong with it. If someone could please tell me if they know how to fix this problem, I would GREATLY appreciate it. I need it to look for jobs.

Thanks

Can you boot into Safe Mode? If you can try doing a System Restore.Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore. When this opens make sure that "Restore my computer to an earlier time" is chosen, and click on Next>.The dates appearing in bold are the dates that you can restore to, click on the date that you want and then click Next> to start the System Restore, you may get the message telling you that you will have to restart your computer to start, click ok. When the computer restarts and you have logged on as the administrator a Restoration Complete page will appear, click on OK to complete the process.

I am a sophomore architecture student and for studio I bought the Acer Aspire v17 Nitro.
It is equipped with:

i7 intel core
860m Nvidia Geforce GTX
Windows 10
16 GB RAM
64-bit operating system with x64 based processor
Norton security
So in terms of requirements to run the many programs need for architecture including: CAD, Revit, Adobe..etc, this computer should kick ***. However, I have been running into more and more issues. For starters the touch pad has little to no response (I knew this may be a problem when I bought it. I just wanted to know if anyone could suggest a fix). The main issue is that programs are constantly crashing. For example, Word always crashes even if I have no other programs running. The same goes for Spotify and Outlook. Revit and Adobe all crash several times when I use the computer. If a program crashes and others are running, either just the one program crashes or the entire computer gives up and crashes. I paid a lot of money for a computer that should be able to run multiple design programs and this cannot even run Word.

In terms of troubleshooting, I have run security scans and computer cleaners but nothing has come up. I have looked at background apps and turned many off. I turned off many of the start up programs, but still no changes.

Any suggestions?

A:Acer Aspire v17 Nitro problems

When a machine crashes at many unrelated tasks, it might be a problem with the RAM. Run Memtest for a few hours and see if it detects anything.

Running computer cleaners is bad. There is nothing that needs cleaning, especially on a brand new machine. And the registry does not require cleaning. These cleaner programs cause many problems.

Well I've got this problem and couldn't find any solution in here that helped me.

I've formatted the C disk where windows 8 was on and then tried to install windows 7 from with a boot USB.
Did didn't work. I've tried literally everything.

1. I've the right boot order.
2. I've turned of secure boot.
3. I've tried it with a DVD.
4. The USB and DVD boot both work on my laptop.

It looks like whatever I do I always get this text in my screen:

"Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected device and press a key"

Has anyone any idea what this can be? It gets really frustrating that this PC is unresponsive to any change and will not boot anything. Much thanks for the help in advance.

Work through these steps to Troubleshoot Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums

It sounds like your boot media is not formatted correctly. If you have UEFI BIOS then flash stick must be formatted using only Option 1 of UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows
and must then be booted only as a UEFI device. Delete all partitions to clear formatting and install.

If problems persist report back any BIOS settings related to UEFI, CSM, Legacy BIOS, Secure Boot, and BIOS Boot Priority order. Pictures will help. Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums - Windows 7 Forums

If this computer came into my shop, i would start by checking a few different things. no particular order, but definately one at a time.

*depending on company policy you may need to run a hardware diagnostic before attempting the following repairs

bios update : make sure you have the latest updates from your manufacture
check power control settings
ensure cooling system (vents, fans, exhaustducts) ect are free of dust
make sure windows it up to date
check startup autorun entries for each user

if the problem still persists after investigating, run a hardware diagnostic.

once you verify the hardware is functioning properly, you can go further if the problem still persists.

Support/recovery disks-USB media must be created by user in the first days of use (normally a pop-up/reminder is triggered from system)windows key are embedded on BIOS, so it will automatically read by windows 10 or 8 if version matches (8 home- 10 home; 10 PRO - 8 PRO) Reading your report, it looks more an HDD issue but...can also be an OS issue too, as you mentioned. if you need a windows 8 media to boot and have an HDD/OS check:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

Check to make sure that the fan is still working. Can you feel air coming out of the vents?
Blow out the vents with canned air. DON'T use a compressor or a vacuum as this will damage components on the system.
Make sure that you run the computer on a hard surface (like a table top) and not on your lap or on a bed/sofa (or anything else that will block the vents)

Hello Sarah. It's the safe start menu that you're seeing, not the BIOS. Since your system is only two days old, I suggest the best thing to try is a restore to factory condition.

Consult the documentation for your laptop, but the key combination to restore factory state is probably Alt + F10. Double-check and make sure the safe start screen does not offer factory restore anywhere on the screen. Alternatively, did you make recovery disks initially whan prompted?

If you restore the system, and you have the same problem again, I'd suspect the hard drive has a fault, and it would be best to return the laptop for warranty attention.

I recently installed Windows XP Pro on my sister's Acer Aspire One before I gave it to her for her birthday. Now, its running terribly slow. The processor maxes out when I open the task manager. I've never seen a system move so slow. I have another Acer Aspire One with XP Home on it (too lazy to upgrade) with identical specs and its running fine. I was watching blu-ray rips off it last night on a 26" monitor w/no problems.

Is it possible that by installing from USB it has done something differently that could account for it being such a resource hog? Or is there some sort of incompatibility that I was not aware of with the Acer Aspire Ones and XP pro?

The system specs are:

1.6Ghz Intel Atom N270
1GB of DDR2-667
120GB HD
8.9" screen
Intel GMA945 chipset
Windows XP Pro SP2 - Vanilla (my sister hasn't installed anything on it yet).

Any help would be appreciated.

-Ragnar

hey TSF,

my acer aspire 4736G recently had some problems.

sometimes i start up my computer, when i click "my computer" or "control panel" it just wont show up. i do not know what is the problem that is causing my computer and control panel not to open even sometimes must restart a few times before it can open but one funny thing is when i try to restart my laptop, my computer and control panel suddenly open and i had to restart the laptop so that it will open.

i do not know what is causing "my computer" and "control panel" stop open when i click is infinite times.

is there any command to just open "my computer" and "control panel" without click from start and just type into CMD.

thanks

Hi riolaw. Open up a command prompt window (START>RUN> type CMD and then type "sfc /scannow" at the prompt. When it's done with the verification, reboot and see if things are back to normal. If not, we'll look into other options.

Good day!

Hi all,

Since upgrading to Win8 my USB3 ceases to act as a USB3 port. I can charge things from it but that's about all. The Acer website shows no new driver....Anyone here managed to solve this one. It is frustrating the hell out of me.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi there
Not sure what the problem is --I have the identical laptop - although the rare small screen 11 in version with the i3 rather than I5 processor - probably not on sale any more as it was "Too cheap and too good Value" with that size screen but it's beautifully compact - most convienient portable laptop I've ever owned !! and my USB3 works perfectly -- I didn't install any drivers --just a CLEAN install W8 Enterprise x-64 from TechNet. No trouble whatsoever - and in spite of the I3 processor it's powerful enough for my portable needs and the battery life is great. - Fitted it with an SSD and 8 GB RAM.

(It can drive a large external monitor at full HDMI HD TV @ 1080P out (and higher) and even the native 768 X 1366 isn't too horrible on an 11 in screen anyway).

I'm seeing 50 - 80 Mb/s on external USB 3 drives which is about within the expected range -- slightly slower on the small "Self powered" one's.

I sometimes use a powered USB3 Hub since I only have 1 USB 3 port on the machine -- this doesn't seem to slow the USB3 disks down either even when copying data from ome ext USB3 disk to anopther one.

Windows 8 provides all the drivers necessary for USB3 on this laptop.

Maybe a wipe and a complete clean re-install is your best bet. - Try the FREE evaluation of W8 Enterprise from Ms --just to see if a CLEAN non pre-installed version of W8 works on your machine correctly. -- Back up any important data first before re-installing your OS though.

Hi I'm having difficulty upgrading to Windows 10. Late 2015 Aspire VN7 591G.My C Drive appears to be be filling up yet I only have Windows 8.1 saved  there. Trying to update to Windows 10 it takes hours (terrible broadband connection) before eventually aborting and message " not enough space on destination drive". I'm totally confused and frustrated- C Drive has only 8.33GB free of 44.7GB. I only have Windows 8.1 installed, I've removed all bloatware and other uneccessary programmes/apps yet it just seems to shrink on a daily basis. I previously had to do a clean install as the C Drive became full.Any solutions in simple  "dummy" terms? Thanks

First of all, remember to create a recovery media, so you can always revert back to stock windows OS installation.http://acer--uk.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/26286/~/create-a-acer-factory-default-backup-in... Since you have a slow connection, i suggest you to create a bootable media using microsoft download too, so you don't need to download windows 10 upgrade each time. have a read here: http://community.acer.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/Windows-10-Installation-Recovery-Media-Creation-and-Use/...a 8GB USB flash drive is needed I suggest you to do a HDD cleanup too, probably you have some spare files of failed windows 10 upgrade:windows logo keytypedisk cleanupclick on disk cleanupclick on Clean up system fileslet it scanthen tick the files you want to delete, it's safe to do itat the end press ok and let it clean the HDD for you after disk cleanup, check if the temporary windows 10 folders are still here:http://www.thewindowsclub.com/delete-windows-bt-ws-folders-windows-10

Hello I just bought an Aspire XC-605 with a core i5 4460.It came with some Linux version but I directly installed Windows 7 pro (x64) since I had an unused license. It works very well but I can't use any virtualization. All I get is that VT-X is supported but not turned on?BIOS is updated to P11.B1L, latest version seems to be P21.A4 but it fails to update. Does the L on the end indicate Linux only? Can I force P21.A4 or will the system die if I try?

Hi, Did you ever get an answer on this? It would be useful to know if you got theis workign before I invest in an i5. Can't believe it wouldn't support VT-X.

Hey guys.

A friend of mine spilt coffee on her Acer Aspire 5315 and it shut down. She didnt try it again since as she thought she had ruined it. However she gave it to me to look at it, and it powered on fine and came to the logon screen. I left it for 15mins to make sure everything was working and the battery went.

Ever since then, it wont turn on. I have used a random charger to charge it and also bought a universal charger. The green battery light comes on when the charger is turned on, but it wont switch on. If I take out the battery and plug in the charger, nothing happens at all.

With the random charger i wiggled it a bit and the battery light changed from green to orange (saying its charging i presume), but wouldn't stay on orange. The light bulb sign also went orange (what is that sign?)

Is it a faulty power jack or something else? As i have had it turned on before im dam sure its not the motherboard but how can i test it?

Many thanks

Hello TheKillerQueen and welcome to TSF,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but turning on the computer was the wrong thing to do...

Coffee crystallizes when the liquid evaporates leaving behind a conductive residue...

Powering on the computer without a proper tear down and clean likely resulted in short circuits which damaged motherboard components.

If the notebook was operating correctly before the spill, it is unlikely a damaged DC jack will be the culprit.

It is highly probable that the board is now damaged beyond repair.

Hi, I have been having some technical difficulty's lately with my Acer ASPIRE's monitor. I will be watching a video, doing work or making one of my games when my monitor will go to black-and-grey lines. So far, the only way to postpone the problem is (Once Problem has occurred) to hit the CTRL-ALT-DEL keys, which will bring to the Windows 7 Options Menu. Then just close that... But it will happen again and the fix is rendered useless I then have to restart my laptop. Any ideas? Please comment!

I think this may be a graphics card issue. Please tell me your system specs (CPU, Graphics card, OS - 32 or 64bit).

It seems that my Bitlocker drive encryption service, window installers, windows update, background intelligent transfer service, cryptographic services keep stopping. I never have any updates for windows or Acer. I do realize that there are not update every day. However, i never show an update at all. My Acer Aspire R7-371-T is not detecting updates or something. I went to Microsoft support and they remotely reinstalled Windows 10 and there was over 10 updates, unfortunately after that it was back to no updates again. I am so sick of having to reinstall and then get all my apps back and whatever else was deleted from having to do a reinstall of win10.Plus when i went and posted my issue (like I am doing now here) the replys I have gotten make me feel as if I am crazy or stupid. Can someone please help me?

Well just recently I bought this laptop about 2-3 weeks ago and i now have encountered a few problems the first problem is my sound. I was playing half life 2 and my sound was working great then i exited and now my sound is like a robot and i tried reinstalling my drivers and that didn't work and I really don't know what else to try.

My second problem is that this laptop came with Nvidia Geforce Go 6100 and its supposed to be 128mb of memory but as i was just looking at my bios (switching my boot sequence) I found that there it said it was only 64mb so i just started my computer then went on a whole bunch of hardware monitoring websites and the all say that its only 64mb

laptop Specs:

AMD Turion 64 2.20 ghz
512mb of DDR2 - 5300
NVIDIA Geforce go 6100
120gm HDD

Hi,

I am having trouble with the sound on my computer, as in I have none!

The computer type is an Acer Aspire T180.

I used to have sound and then suddenly one day I didn't and I'm not sure how I lost it. But when I went into the system I had an error message saying that I did not have the correct software to install 'Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus' with a yellow exclamation mark.

I came on here and saw that I needed to download the correct drive, so I went to the Acer website and downloaded the Audio Drive, which in turn downloaded 'Realtek HD Audio Manager.'

When I went back to the system the 'Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus' has gone. I have tried all possible solutions on Windows help but nothing!

Please help! I have been trying to solve this problem for hours and am ready to give up! Any suggestions?
