I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

My Belkin N300 wireless router is now experiencing intermittent slow Internet speed. The router is 2 years old and has worked perfectly until last week.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I completed.

Internet speed test when directly plugged into the wireless router and cable modem: 30mbps
Internet speed using laptop wifi: 2 mbps then sometimes works at normal speed
Called ISP and they verified there was a connectivity to cable modem issue. Did a power cycle for modem and router. Then got full 30mbps from cable modem to ISP using direct connect to laptop.
tested other devices such as laptops and tablets, all experiencing intermittent slow speed
when experiencing slow wifi, switched to direct connect ethernet cable to router and got immediate full 30mpbs

So far all my testing is pointing to the Belkin router's wifi connectivity. I will check on the router's firmware since it has never been updated.
I also found a thread online suggesting disabling QOS on the router. But this should not be needed as it was working fine for two years since its purchase.

Any suggestions to what else I can do to resolve this issue?

I've had this problem with the Belkin ever since I bought it, and I have a lot of contempt for it. I bought it for home because I was having issues getting a good signal from my bedroom with my laptop.. turned out, it didn't help any. Back then, I hadn't the faintest idea how to fix it, so I boxed it up and put it away.

A year later, I moved in with somebody and they busted it out and got half way through installing it. I ran it the rest of the way and it still ran into the same problem... "Connected with no Internet Access"

So I googled and I googled on my phone while dinking around until I found this site. Seems like a lot of people ran into the same problem, and there were a lot of solutions but about half way through I don't understand where it goes anymore... So I'm giving it a shot.

From what I understand, it has to do with the laptop not recognizing it and the MAC address... I went to the ip address on the browser to access my router and had a look.. I had it clone the MAC address.. but then it stopped working all together. I unplugged/reset it.. but now it doesn't even connect at all.

Before when I didn't have 'internet access' my phone, playstation and xbox all recognized it, but not the laptop. Then cloning the MAC address made me lose all connectivity. Here's the specs I'm going off in the meantime.

The laptop is a Dell XPS L502X running Windows 7.

The router set up I got is the modem is p... Read more

Okay I'm not sure what happened.

It wasn't happy with me when I cloned the MAC. I was connected with no access, then when I cloned it, I couldn't connect at all. So I unplugged and reset and... nothing. Finally, randomly, I cleared the MAC on the laptop to try and connect without access again, but... it connects fine now.

The following information is from the .pdf for your Belkin router.

In your browser, type “http://router” (you do not need to type in anything else such as “www”) . Then press the Enter key.

If you’re still having trouble running the manual setup option, type “192 .168 .2 .1” in your browser (you do not need to type in anything else such as “http://” or “www”) . Then press the Enter key.

pdf attached is for your router.

Hi,

I recently bough a belkin router (Share N300) but it just wont connect to the internet.

My setup is as follows:
ADSL -> Modem -> Router -> PC

The internet works fine when I connect it directly to my PC (via the modem), and other PCs too.
So no issue of MAC address lockdown.

I've tried connecting through static mode with the data from ipconfig /all, but it still doesn't work.

I've even installed DD WRT and Tomato to no avail.

I've rebooted/reset everything, but theres still no connection.

Please help.
Thanks

A:Belkin Router N300 doesn't connect to internet

If the modem is a modem only did you power cycle it when trying to connect the router and configure the router's WAN properly?

If the modem is really a modem/router combo is it and the Belkin using the same LAN IP subnet?

Hey guys. About 4-5 months ago me and the family got this fifty dollar router from Belkin, and at first it seemed alright. Right off the bat, the internet was slow, it was crappy, and I couldn't do anything on it. I called belkin support and they told me to just ship it in and they'll give us a replacement. So I got my replacement, and guess what, its the same exact crappy internet I had with the first one. I looked online for different tips at making it faster, such as changing its channel to either 6 or 11. I've tried both channels and my internet speed didn't change in the slightest. My videos don't buffer like they used to, to takes at least 3 minutes for the video itself to even load and show up on the damn page, pages take too long to load, and while I'm trying to view a picture it goes through this sequence of loading slowly from top to bottom as if I have a piece of crap PC from the 1990's or something. And it isn't just on my PC, it goes for my phone to. I connect to my internets WiFi and things are slower than when I had the damn Mobile Data on. My Mobile Data is over 90% now and I'd really like to have the WiFi so I don't have to pay a buttload extra just to watch a few videos when I don't have the PC. Is this the routers fault or am I being dumb? It ticks me off how I paid fifty bucks for this things and its a piece of crap. Hi there, first time actually posting on this forum. As the title says, I have a Belkkin N300 Micro USB dongle that up until about a week ago, has worked like a charm. Then out of nowhere it starts acting up. Now every 30minutes-2hours(if I'm lucky) it loses connection and I can no longer access the internet. It will say that it is still connected, but I can't do anything. If i try to repair the connection, it gets an error on the last step Registering DNS and can't fix itself. If I attempt to go in and re connect to the wireless network it says that Windows is not managing the wireless networks and to turn Wireless Zero Configuration on(which I have done).

However, when I start it up there's no problem whatsoever until this happens again. On a somewhat related note, when this all started something went wrong to where I couldn't connect to google.com directly. Rather I had to search google on Yahoo or some other site and then click google's link. Not sure if that's relevant. Anyways my room is too far from the router to run an ethernet cord to it. I have already tried reinstalling the drivers for the USB dongle and no change. I have seen from some other posts that the typical first response is to ask for the ipconfig/all so I will post that below. I uninstalled my virus protection, have tried all the turn it off and on simple stuff and don't know what else to try. Oh and my ISP is AT&T through their UVERSE package deal, the router... A:Easy way to limit my wifi speed (clients getting greedy)

It depends on your wireless router, many will allow you to create a 'guest account' that you can then limit in whatever way you want. Just google 'throttle guest wifi'

There's a ton of information on the subject.
If your router doesn't support it, I don't know of any other way though.

Recently got a new belkin n300 router modem. At first it worked fine, if a bit slower than my previous G router. But recently it's been getting massive lag spikes. If I'm watching a youtube video it will randomly completely stop buffering for upwards of a minute. If I'm playing anything online eg. WoW, LoL, tf2, I get massive ping spikes every other minute (jumping from ~50 to anywhere between 1,000-15,000 ms). I've tried it on other computers on the network, same thing. I've run a full virus scan using both McAfee and Avast, nothing. Is there anything I can try to figure out whether it really is the belkin or somewhere further down the line?

Edit: Checked router's security log, it's throwing out tonnes of **TCP FIN Scan** (from ATM1 Inbound) alerts, but the times logged don't seem to relate to the spikes. posting a log anyway:

hi everyone. I was hoping someone here would have personal experience with the belkin N300 and using it to extend the network for an ISP modem/router.

I had previously had it set from Lan>Wan. but problems with the new blackops III on PS3, open Nat and port forwarding cause me to give up and test out Lan>Lan cascading in the hopes of having a better connection for playing and keeping UPnP enabled/not port forwarding.

everything seems to be working fine. having my bro test the game out as we speak. just had one specific concern regarding the home page to the router.

It says

"We're having trouble talking with your modem"

We think there's a wiring problem.
There should be a cable connecting your modem to the yellow port on your router. Your modem should be on."Click to expand...

I never had this error using Lan>Wan. and the router is constantly blinking orange instead of solid blue as a result i think.

although everything is working as it should, (everyone is online no problems), i still get this on the main page. is there a way to fix it? did i forget to enable/disable an option so belkin knows it's being used as lan>lan? (i use both wired and wireless on the 2nd router so i don't know if i want to enable "use as access point" i'm scared it'll disable my wired connections)

those are my main questions. any help advice is greatly appreciated. tyvm

I've been having this problem with my Belkin router since day 1 when i got it.( not new, got from buddy's place)
It's Belkin HI Speed Wifi G router, and what's really frustrating is, everytime i connect to it, I need to manually change the DNS address and switch between 4.2.2.2 & 4.2.2.4 in order to get internet access!
Sometimes it even cuts off the internet during a session, without me even disconnecting from the wifi network, where I would again need to switch back and forth to the 2 or 4 ending! It s been months and found no solution ! .. can someone drop me some hints please .. would highly appreciate your help ! thanks

One of those (probably) stupid questions if you know the answer ...

Just bought a Belkin N300 F7D2401 v1 'Modem and Router' unit but it will not connect to the internet and I am going round in circles trying to fix the issue.

Do I also need a seperate modem? I assumed not, as it seems to be an 'upgrade' from the Belkin G I had run for years (also a 'Modem and Router' unit), but thought it worth asking.

Thanks in advance

I have a Embarq 660 Series modem, but i wanted wifi. so i bought a belkin N300 wireless router this morning. And it won't connect to internet. I'm pretty sure i've plug the cable in the right spot. And the EQ 660R ADSL router/modem is working. The belkin package came with a CD, and it's the setup program for the wireless router. but as it tried to form a connection, it said failed to connect to the modem. so does this means embarq 660 series isn't compatible with Belkin N300?

A:Solved: why can't my eq 660R ADSL router connect to Belkin N300?

I vaguely recall that the Embarq modem/routers default to the same LAN IP addresses (192.168.2.x) as the Belkin routers do. If this is the case to daisy chain the routers you need to change the LAN addresses of one of them (e.g., to 192.168.3.x).

Or you could use the Belkin as just an ethernet switch and wireless access point ...

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router... Read more

If you want to mess with Linux, there's a few tools out there which are free to do bandwidth limiting. But then you have to throw up another box on your network with additional network interfaces. Or you'll have to get a network switch or router which supports QoS. Either way, you're spending money on hardware.

Ugh, I don't like it when I feel like a tech noob.

For several years, my family has run an ADSL connection with Telstra, on one of their stock Thomson TG782T (I think) modem/routers. It had worked mostly fine for most of it's life (with the odd bug and need for a restart). Early January this year, it started to drop the entire system's connection to ADSL (it still considered everything to be connected to it, and there was apparently Internet access, but it was so incredibly slow that we pages and emails just sat on the same loading progress). A simple flick of the switch would re-establish connection, for the time being. As time went on, this became more frequent until it didn't fix the problem at all, so we decided to get a new modem/router.

On the old router, we had about 8-10 devices hooked in, three by Ethernet, 5-7 via wireless. I'll list them, just to be on the safe side.
By WiFi
2 laptops - 1 Windows 7, 1 Windows Vista. The Windows 7 one is usually on in the afternoon, the other is used probably once a day for emails.
1 Desktop PC running Windows Vista. It is rarely used though.
2 iPad 2s. School makes us have these, and they are usually on.
2-4 smartphones, depending on the time of day.

And via Ethernet:
1 iMac - running OSX 10 Lion. This is almost always on, but asleep. I have run Minecraft servers on this in the past with no problems.
1 Epson Stylus TX550W printer
And on occasion, 1 Desktop PC running Windows XP

So I have the Belkin N300 Wireless adapter connected to my Asus m52bc computer running windows Pro 7 64-bit. Here's a photo of what the adapter looks like:
I DO have the latest driver for the adapter. So please don't nag about the "driver" update. However, there is a problem with the USB port driver. For some strange reason, when I go to "Device Manager" I get a problem with a USB driver not being installed. It looks like this:

When I run the troubleshooter, I get this error:

file:///C:/Users/John/Desktop/PhotoTroubleShoot.PNG

I also AM connected to a network. I also get the yellow explanation mark on the wifi symbol.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you. Like I said, It's not the Wireless Adapter's Driver problem because I already have it fully updated and working (The adapter works on other computers but not my Asus m52bc). I think it's the USB driver problem. If you point me to a direction on where I can install the USB driver would be greatly appreciated thanks. Hi guys

Have often browsed this fount of knowledge without actually posting but now I am stumped and really need help...

I have recently moved house and had new broadband installed complete with new Netgear N300 router. Now I am unable to connect to the internet even though my desktop says it can see the wireless network (though it does say it is unidentified). The network connection diagram in Vista suggests the problem is between the internet and the router but I know this is not the case as I have successfully connected other devices via the wireless network. I know the router is N and the card is G but the router should still work with the older card, right?

I have tried to download the latest drivers from Belkin for a version 8 F5D7000 but for some reason they wont install (when I click on the install file it thinks for a second then does nothing). No idea why this is the case.

Could it be anything to do with the fact that the card, being older, is WEP and my router has no option for WEP, only WPA onwards? If so, would the latest driver from Belkin in effect 'upgrade' my card to allow it to carry same encryption as the router?

If I can't solve then I'll no doubt end up buying a new PCI card but I didn't want to have to bother right at this moment.

Any help would be fantastic!

Cheers

Matt

Hi there,

As this is my first post, I'll go through a quick presentation. My name is Patrick, 26, living in Switzerland.

I'm looking for a few help to solve an... unusual question : I'm quite sure there is tons of topics on "how to increase my download speed", my wish is to "decrease it"

Well, the reason is simple : I do have several machines on my private network. And when I do download files on my main machine from servers which are really fast (for example Megaupload or similar), I do saturate my 10Mb connection with 1.25 MB/s, which means other machines has strictly nothing left. In fact, they even cannot print a Google page.

I found some documentation on "Advanced QoS options" at Param?tres de QoS avanc?s (in french, sorry, there should be a translation), which seems to be dedicated to Windows Server versions. I tried to use the same on Windows Vista (the options exists and can be changed), but this had no effect at all on my download speed in Firefox.

I set the value to the least (0 = 64Kb / sec) but was still downloading at 1.2 MB/sec. I tried to reboot the machine, in case this option would take effect only after it, but this option really seems to have no effect at all.

Is it something that indeed works only on the server edition of windows ?
Is there another way on windows to limit the inbound internet connection ?
Would you recommend any free software which can make something similar ?

Thank you in advance, any help will be f... Read more

Hello, Your best bet is to QOS at your router.

What router do you have? Depending ion the router, if supported i'd recommend using dd-wrt firmware on it.

So post up your router, and we'll go from there.

I recently moved to a new home and I set up my pc and the wireless adapter can't even see the wifi despite picking up my neighbours which have very weak signals.
My phone and my laptop both see it and connect with full strength.

What do I do?

A:Netgear N300 can't see wifi

Try the factory reset. There's a a small reset button in the back, press it down (sometimes you have to use a pen if it's one of those pin hole things) for about 5 seconds and that takes it back to factory settings. At that point you can either run the install CD that came with the router, or set it up manually from your browser.

A:Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless-G Router WHAT IS ITS MAX INTERNET CONNECTION SPEED

There THe belkin modem/gateway shouldnt limit your speed capabilities. You should be able to find the speed listed inside the modem's status page. To do this..
Click start>run>In run type CMD
In the black window type IPCONFIG and then enter. Note down your default gateway.
Open a browser window and enter the gateway's address into it. Click go
This should take you to your gateways graphical user interface.
Look for a status tab or see if it lists connection speeds on the general page.

Also you can test speeds at different sites. Google search broadband speed test and choose 1 of the millions of sites

I have tried many things like:

Restart modem/router
Boot my pc in safe mode

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset reset.log
uninstalling/reinstalling the driver
Format my pc
I cant use ethernet because my cable is not long enough

But nothing seems to help at all! I have even tried to switch the wireless adapter with my brother but that didn't help either. So can someone please help/guide me through this? Because I cant play my games or stream youtube....hell even web browsing takes forever to load now.

Hello,

I have a high-speed Internet connection at home (100/10). The main computer is connected through an Ethernet cable off a cable-modem, and both the download and upload speeds are excellent, just as the ISP claims it to be.

Then, the afore-mentioned cable-modem is linked to my 300Mbps TP-Link WR1043ND router so that I can get Wi-Fi on my iPhone 5... I have been running several Internet speed tests, and the download speed just won't go any higher than 40Mbps. Upload speed is perfectly fine.

Gone through some tutorials and then all the settings on the router and everything is fine... Plus the iPhone 5 is designed for Wi-Fi ultra-high speeds (well over 100Mbps).

Am I missing something? How come I cannot get any more speed? When I do the tests, the phone is just centimetres away from the router so there's no walls, objects or anything that may slow things down by over 60% as it is the case.

What can I do? Is there any possibilities of getting at least 80% of the maximum speed?

A:Home WiFi Internet Speed

This really isn't a Windows 8 issue , you will need to ask in the TP-Link support area/forums to see how you can change your wifi channels etc to maximise your throughput.

I can say that under normal use you will never get 300 Mbs using wifi , the network overheads and more will reduce that to 180-200Mbs maximum , 300 is a very idealised figure.

As for iPhone 5 , I do remember there were issues with wifi speeds , binarytoad details the issue here iPhone 5 Slow Wifi Fix (workaround) - YouTube

He always has full signal strenghth and has and acer aspire (not sure of the model at the minute) with a built in wifi card. His only problem is it is so slow and will time out rather than open anything other than the home page.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Hello all. Here is my set up. I have 1.5M internet service coming into my CradlePoint CTR35 wireless router. The two devices I have are my desktop, and an iPad. When doing a speed test at speedtest.net, I find that my desktop running windows 7 gets about 1.45, and my iPad is only pulling 1.36M. I realize that isn't a big deal, but why would there be a varience between the devices? Shouldn't they be able to test out the same?

A:WIFI internet speed varience between devices

The Operating System parameter settings that determine data transfer rates are slightly different on the two machines. Differences between computers on the same LAN are normal.

With many older OS's and probably the one on your iPad these values are permanently set in the registry. They are just general values that will usually give a good data rate. Sometimes these values can be changed to improve the flow.

Starting with Vista and Windows 7, the OS actually monitored the data flow and could change some of the values to improve it.

I have two XP desktops, a Vista desktop and a Vista laptop. All will show slightly different results on speed tests to the same server.

The two XP's have the same values for all their changable settings, but one always tests about 0.04 M higher than the other.

Guys at the forum,
here are the specs of my home wifi connection.

Main desktop PC: Core 2 Duo 3GHz, 4GB RAM running Win XP SP3.
Old Dell Latitude C810: Win XP SP3, 1133MHz, 256MB RAM.

The Dell is using a PCMCIA WiFi card given by a friend in the office.
It is a Linksys Wireless G notebook adapter. supporting 802.11b/g.
the Main PC has a Gigabyte GN-A11G Access Point connected via a network cable.

The Problem:
both connect smoothly, and there is nobody who uses a pc in our area, so wifi has no security. there is no 3rd party involved.
but i copy files over network and all i get is speed less than 1Mb.
the range of the two PCs are merely 10 feet. and the connection is "G".
I have everything in default, but nothing works to speed up.
Also i tried with my dad's HP Compaq nx6320, and the speed rose up to 1.5Mbps. That is the maximum achieved.

Problem #2:
The Dell Pc has a dial up connection. and i used the sharing feature to share it through the network. and it goes good. But the desktop PC doesn't access the internet. It just stays connected.
Also have to mention, I'm using ZoneAlarm 8 Free Firewall. I also have given the device to trusted. But still I can't seem to access the internet from the main PC. little stuck up in there.
My main problem is on Question #1, it is ok if #2 is not answered.

Thanks to all who reply.
Regards,
Timothy.

I connect my PC to my router using a wifi dongle (I wish I could use Ethernet but it's just not practical). My router is a D-Link Wireless AC1900, my dongle is an Asus USB-AC56. They connect strongly, usually at 585Mbps. My incoming internet connection is passed through from the modem to the router. The modem isn't broadcasting a Wifi signal. My internet is a fibre connection provided by talktalk.

When testing with Speedtest, my iPad, mobile phone, Macbook and other devices typically see down speeds of 40-60Mbps and up speeds of 15-19Mbps, which is roughly what they should. (I mean, I'm paying for 80Mbps, but whatever.) My PC will occasionally get the same, but very often the download is erratic and slow, something like 1-5Mbps, and I don't know how to rectify it. (The upload isn't a problem, so what I'm usually getting is an up speed that's 4-15x my down speed.)

The problem doesn't seem to be with the router or modem, given that my other devices are getting good speeds, and it doesn't help to troubleshoot through Windows because as far as my PC's concerned, it's getting an internet connection, it doesn't care about the speed, so it doesn't suggest any solution.

I have tried various combinations of restarting the computer, unplugging the dongle, restarting AND unplugging, and every once in a while after being plugged back in it starts to reach the 40-60Mbps range, but there's no consistency to it. (And I'm scared to turn the computer off because if I do it'll probably lose... Read more

I have upgraded my OS from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. After the installation the internet speed is slow down like a dial in connection (it is slow down if I am using wifi connection and it is fine if I am using a cable/wired connection). It is taking long time to load the web page (like google, gmail etc) and it is not streaming any video from youtube/netflix. I spend one day for fixing this issue but don't know how to fix this.
Please help me to how to fix this issue ( increase the internet speed using wifi connection)? or how I will revert back to Windows 8.1?

So just this past weekend I re-installed Windows 8.1 on my dad's ASUS Notebook (K55N), but now its WiFi internet speed is a good ~25% slower vs wired directly to the router (Linksys E4200), that was definitely not the case prior to the fresh install. I did run Windows Update just after the install just to make sure it downloaded the latest driver for the WiFi Network Adapter (it did download one).

Power Plan is set to High Performance.

I really have no idea what's going on, my dad has another laptop, and there, its internet speed is exactly the same Wireless vs Wired.

I really need your help here, thanks.

My network is like this. 3G router connected on LAN of TP-Link Wireless router.
3G router | TP-Link Wifi
Wifi Disabled | Wifi Enabled
DHCP ON | DHCP OFF

I am using TP-Link because i needed more LAN ports as 3G router is having only one.
Now I have 2 laptops, connected to TP-Link wireless router. I am getting same bandwidth of around 1Mbps from my 3G internet connection that is download+upload speed of around 130KBps, wether the USB is connected directly to laptop or to the 3G router. But if I transfer between shared folders on my 2 laptops, speed that i get is never more than 56KBps that is around 450Kbps.

I have cjhecked with Inssider there is no signal interference by any other wifi nearby. Also i have tested using open security of wifi, tried changing between 128bit & 40-56bit encryption sharing setting on both systems & disabled all antivirus & firewall on both. There is no change in speed. Wifi is in the same room no more the 5 meters away, mode is N and 40MHz bandwidth setting.

I can't understand how the speed i get from my internet connection is faster than my local laptops. Also the specified bandwidth is 300Mbs that is 37.MBps, and i don't even get 1MBps.

A:File transfer over Wifi between laptops slower than internet speed

Welcome to Seven Forums,

I'd try fiddling with the router's wireless mode setting - usually on Mixed mode. Experiment - Set it to N (if available) or G/N or G. You may also fiddle with your Wi-Fi adapter's setting if available.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.
