I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How shall users upgrade to free Windows 10 after July 29, 2016 if they need to reinstall OS? What should they prepare for reinstallation of Windows 10 in the future, creating a copy or what else? Thank you for your answer.

A:How shall users upgrade to free Windows 10 after July 29, 2016?

If you upgraded and activated Win10 before the free offer expires on 29 July 2016, you can re-install any time. You'll need Win10 install media, which you can download from MS.
See: Windows 10 ISO Download

If you did NOT upgrade and activate before the deadline, you will have to buy a Full Packaged Product (FPP), also known as Retail.

Hello,

I have a very frustrating problem. I want to use Windows 2008 R2 Terminalserver with Outlook 2016.
Unfortunately every time a user starts Outlook, he installs the 64 bit Components. It seems there is one solution: Installing Windows Search Role and starting Outlook in Installation Mode.
Seems to work. With that solution, there is another problem: It is not possible to search in pst-files. Windows error log says event ID 3036. Looks like, Windows Search cannot index pst-files (in network). The possible solution to disable indexing for Outlook
does not work because the configuration change got reseted after relogin. This might happen because of our Roaming users.
As you can see, I have one problem. When Windows Search is installed, pst-files are not searchable. When Windows Search is not installed, Outlook 64 bit Components get installed every start of Outlook.

Is there anybody who has other ideas for a solution?

Thank you for your help.

Jens

I had enough problems to realize that it just wasn't worth the headaches and I missed my DVD Drive.  Within a few days I uninstalled it, happily reverting back to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit . Of course, in the process I lost drivers which I've been
able to rectify over a long, 36 months of agony but every day find a new problem.  Now in addition to WiFiMiniport missing warnings I found out why none of my devices are being discovered by my main PC-  Blue-tooth drivers- anything Bluetooth- was

I found a ver helpful website which helped me to understand some of the issues with Bluetooth, how to get it restarted and start automatically vs. manually.  I shut down, restarted PC but still no Bluetooth In Devices & Printers nor in Device Management

And Verizon gave AOL the wrong account information when the "migration" of email took place, so I no longer have any email coming into my Outlook accounts - 2003 to present, I cannot get my email from the main accounts- only 1 sub account. It makes

Hi everyone
I'm having a recurring problem with my otherwise excellent XPS 13, Windows 10 Home 64-bit English purchased last year. My keyboard will often stop responding if the computer if I stop using the computer briefly and the lid has been moved (not necessarily closed). I tried obvious solutions, such as changing the power options when the lid is closed (which I've set to "do nothing), but to no avail. The touch pad still works so I can generally close and save my work, then restart, but it's the only way to reactivate the keyboard.
Any ideas?
Many thanks

Been trying out Sophos Free Antivirus this week. Had what I felt were a few false positives on the initial scan, and it deleted them without mercy. I guess that's a good thing, but had it been an irreplaceable document I would have choked.

Gave it a second go today, and initial scan comes up clean and smooth sailing on 2 machines so far with only Sophos Home Antivirus and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Free.

I am giving this AV a shot pretty much on the basis of the 3 videos I could find on youtube that test its capabilities. I am not the maker of any of these, I am just passing the links along for folks who might want to check out Sophos Home. It's really hard to find any reviews on this AV as it's so new.

Hi!

I am considering buying Kaspersky Internet Security in store; is this Kaspersky software version worth the buy?
I am using AVG Free as of right now, and a Kaspersky Anti Virus Trial!

A:Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 - 3 users 18 months

Kaspersky is consistently ranked near the top by anti-virus testing labs. Here's a comparison chart from AV comparatves web site: http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php?chart=chart2&year=2015&month=12&sort=1&zoom=2.
Pc magazine has a review of it as well. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2460689,00.asp
Performance is important but Another consideration is the usability of the software. Are you comfortable with the user interface? Is it easy to find out if your anti-virus definitions are up to date, configure scheduled scans, etc.

I am new to Windows XP. I have a strange problem with different behavior from an application for different users. Details:

Windows XP Home edition with Media Center Edition SP2 (2002)
Dell Inspiron 9400 E1705, Intel Core 2 Duo 5200

I have several users; one administrator, four limited access users I created at startup, and two new users.

The problem is that an application, EasyChild (a child management tool ) runs fine for the admin and 3 of the older user accounts. For one user account, it wouldn't run and gave an error message (below). So I thought I'd just create a new limited user for myself and get rid of the nonfunctioning one. Well, the program doesn't run for the new user either.

The program is installed in it's default directory in c:\programfiles\bms

I've tried repairing the program as well as uninstalling and reinstalling. No luck.

Likewise, there is a game, Port Royale, that will work for the older users but not the new user (gets hung up after the introduction and right before starting play). This was a program I installed from the administrator to C:\programs, but it didn't work for the limited access users; so I dragged it to the shared documents folder [I'm using simple sharing here] and it works for the same 3 users and not for the 4th old user or new users.

Other programs, such as Windows Media Player 11, will run in all users when launched from the common desktop icon.

I've since deleted the ... Read more

My computer that had been running the Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium since early 2009 had become an appliance:  It worked every time it was turned on and it handled every network transaction that came through my DSL line.  I had set the "Windows
Update" program to check for updates periodically, every month or so, and then to inform me when ever any update was available.  I could tell when the "Windows Update" program had been checking for updates, as the CPU usage went up to 100
percent with the used memory amount "sawtoothed" up and down for about 15 to 20 minutes.   The "Windows Update" then would tell me about the available updates and it would ask whether it should load any of those.

This  worked until about January 2016.  At that time, the "Windows Update" CPU usage would stay at 100 percent for more than an hour.  After that, it gradually got worse:  Around June 2016, it held the CPU at 100 percent usage
for about 14 hours.  In August 2016, the CPU is held at 100 percent usage by the "Windows Update" for more than 45 hours with no end in sight.  It did find some updates to load, but it would not load them as the CPU had no time to do that.

"Windows Update" is currently holding the CPU at 100 percent load  this every time the machine is booted up until all of the updates are loaded and it can not do this as the C... Read more

From Windows 10 updates to be automatic and mandatory for Home users | Ars Technica

Quote:

Windows Update can't be readily disabled in Windows 10 Home, and the license terms that all users must agree to allow Microsoft to install updates automatically.

The Insider Preview releases of Windows 10 didn't include any way to prevent Windows Update from downloading and installing updates, but it wasn't clear if this was just some quirk of the previews, or the long-term plan; Microsoft's previews often have special rules for things like providing automated feedback and hooking up online services, and so this could have been part of that.

Build 10240, released to insiders on Wednesday, changes that. This build is believed to be the release-to-manufacturing build that OEMs will preinstall on hardware, and as such, it contains the finalized settings, license text, and so on.

..... This has immediately raised concerns. Today, if a Windows user finds that an update breaks something that they need, they can generally refuse that update for an extended period. This is particularly apparent with Service Packs; these are both the most likely updates to break things, and the easiest to reject. Microsoft continues to deliver security fixes to the operating system both with and without the Service Pack for many months or years after the Service Pack's release.

For Windows 10 Home users, this isn't going to be an option. If a future update breaks something ess... Read more

Hello Technet, I am trying to set the default home for all users page in IE 11 using the IEAK11 tool, but it is not working in Windows 10 1607. The home page does not update or change from the default msn.com no matter what I do. I have tried using both
a custom configuration and full install using the settings "windows 8.1 64 bit" and "windows 8.1 32 bit".
Any thoughts on how to correct this or maybe configure this a different way? I would like to allow users to change the home page afterwards and prefer not to use a local group policy to enforce it. Also, we do not use the domain group policy for default
home page yet, but we are just trying to change it for new deployments using SCCM, not for everyone currently in production.

Is there any limitation on new laptops so only Office 365 can be used (just a thought...)

Burn another DVD. Something might have gone awry in the first one.

I don't have Office 2016. Mine is a 2007 edition.
So, I have a silly question :
Assuming the 2016 is still running in the old Win 7 computer. Are you allowed to install the same 2016 to another computer with the same license ?

German institute AV-TEST has performed a new series of tests to determine the best antivirus solution for Windows 10 business users.

As compared to research papers involving home user solutions, this particular session of testing was focused specifically on enterprise solutions running on Windows 10 version 1607 (Anniversary Update).

According to the test results, only two security solutions got the maximum score, namely Bitdefender Endpoint Security and Kaspersky Small Office Security. They both received 6 out of 6 points for protection, performance, and usability, with the final rating of 18 points.

Four security products included in the test achieved 17 points, including here Trend Micro Office Scan, Symantec Endpoint Protection, Seqrite Endpoint Security, and Kaspersky?s Endpoint Security.

The worst score was obtained by Sophos Endpoint Security and Control, which received only 14.5 points, with 5 for protection, 3.5 for performance, and 5 for usability.

In case you?re looking for Microsoft?s security solution, it received 15 points, so it?s not the best, but not the worst either. Microsoft scored 5 points for protection, 4 points for performance, and 6 points for usability.

User 2 logs in (switching users - not logging out user 1) and gets to work.

Sometime later (ie. not right away) and not at a prescribed time, the network stops working.

I try to disable / enable the network adapter and the machine freezes.   Reboot fixes problem.

If user 1 or user 2 is the only one logged in then never a problem.

Anyone heard of this?
Thanks for any help!

A:Multiple Windows 7 Users-Switch between Users-network stops working

When switching users, it's always a good idea to have User 1 close out any applications and documents they have open and then log out before User 2 logs in. It sounds like you have fast user switching enabled, but I'm not aware of that causing any network issues -- unless User 1 was doing something that required a network connect.

Check the Event Viewer for error logs from the time it froze when you tried to disable and enable the network adapter. Post the event ID and description here if you need help diagnosing the issue from the log files. Perhaps another fix is to disable fast user switching, so that users are always forced to log out before someone else can log in.

Ok, I don't know if I'm posting in the right section but here it goes. I built a computer almost a month ago it's been nothing but problems. First it wouldn't turn on. Found out that was because the jumper cap on the mobo came off and I lost it. I took one out of an older computer and it turned on. I found the one that came on the motherboard but I haven't swithed them. Then I got everything installed so happy to finally play the PC version BF3. And 5 minutes in to a game blue screen of death. I was mad because I'm only 15 (now 16) and I dumped all my money into this computer. The STOP code was 0x0000007e. Blescreenview indicates that it was caused by ntoskrnl.exe. The bluescreen has happened in planetside 2, call of duty world at war while loading a custom zombie map, aand recently after a clean install of windows (for the third time) while redownloading bf3. It has never happened while playing minecraft even after playing for 6 hours at a time. All my drivers are up to date (I'm almost certain) and after almost a month of research all I've heard is that it's RAM or driver problems. Well I replaced the RAM didn't change anything. And I've reinstalled all my drivers multiple times. Honestly now I'm desperate because I've tried everything I possibly could except replace everything in the computer.

A:BSOD While Gaming But not during stress tests! - Windows 7 64 Bit

Hi,

Moved to the proper forum.

All of the DMP files are of the
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e) bugcheck.

A system thread generated an exception that the error handler did not catch.

Windows stopped for an unexpected error. In some cases a device driver may be identified, but the issue might be be related to this driver. Throughout the DMP's we have mentions of memory_corruption.

I am doubting device drivers right now just by looking through your loaded drivers list, so let's instead start off with a Memtest for NO less than ~8 passes (several hours):

Memtest86+:

Download Memtest86+ here:

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Which should I download?

You can either download the pre-compiled ISO that you would burn to a CD and then boot from the CD, or you can download the auto-installer for the USB key. What this will do is format your USB drive, make it a bootable device, and then install the necessary files. Both do the same job, it's just up to you which you choose, or which you have available (whether it's CD or USB).

How Memtest works:

Memtest86 writes a series of test patterns to most memory addresses, reads back the data written, and compares it for errors.

The default pass does 9 different tests, varying in access patterns and test data. A tenth test, bit fade, is selectable from the menu. It writes all memory with zeroes, then sleeps for 90 minutes before checking to see if bits have changed (perhaps because of refresh ... Read more

Dell Vostro desktop PC 230Gb Harddrive - 2Gb Ram in single stick

- Formatted harddrive as wanting clean install
- Installed Windows 7 Professional 32 bit (booted form Dell utility partition)
- Install worked ok
- Windows offered numerous updates
- selected only SP1 and installed ok

Everything seems to be working fine

- Installed Office 2010 ok
- windows offered numerous updates some office some security
- Installed the Office updates - ok

Took restore point

- Installed the 6 or so Windows updats
BSOD
- Rolled back Windows to previous restore point and began selecting updates
- managed to get most of them in but with 3 remaing everytime an update is attempted BSOD

- Swapped the slots the RAM was located as the BSOD was saying 'Page_fault_in_non_paged_area' ucb_lh32.sys
-error STOP 0X00000050 - usually a RAM issue.

Carried out memory test using memtest86 (ran for around 6 hours and no errors found)

- Remaing updates are KB2505438 and VIA-DISPLAY-VIA Chrome9 HC IGP FAMILY WDDM

Everything looks fine but the BSOD is making me want to trash the PC and install something like XP instead.

Any ideas - minidump files attached.

A:BSOD after Windows 7 Update - Page_fault_in_non_paged_area - memory tests ok

It's the S3 graphics driver causing this. Go to the motherboards support website and get the chipset and graphics driver from there. Did this PC originally come with Windows 7 loaded?

@Home has an advisory message out to all @Home cable users to expect rapid flashing of your RD light on your cable modem and an unusually large amount of hits from 24.xx.xxx.... IP addresses, which are cable IPs. They've been hit by the Code Red virus and are working to resolve it. You could see those symptoms for up to nine more days.

Just to be sure there's no confusion. If your running W95, W98 or ME, your not infected with the Code Red virus if you see those symptoms. Your just getting the "probes" from the infected servers.

I'm having a problem that is keeping me from logging into window's now. It started with a problem where the startup would hang at the windows splash screen. I tried to boot up into safe mode and got the same response.

So I did a Repair installation of the Windows OS Disks. After I booted up after the repair installation I now get to the Welcome screen, it asks for me to click on a user profile, but none are showing on the screen.

If I hit Ctrl - Alt - Delete I get to a windows login screen but still can't login. I never had password logging enabled prior or a password associated with my login. The login isn't accepting a blank in the password section.

I also attempted to go into the recovery-console but can't because it's asking for an Admin password (when I never assigned one to begin with)...

Any ideas on how I can go about recovering the PC with minimal destruction of data? I have some very valuable data on the drives that my business nor I can part with...

Thank you kindly!!!

I have a Compaq Presario 2500 Laptop with Windows XP Home SP 2.

When you did the repair install, it should have asked you for an administrator password.

I have D-Link router, two D-Link Desktop Adapters, and a Laptop that has its own included wireless system. Desktops are XP, notebook is Vista. Home Network is up and all can connect to the internet.

I have a HP laser jet printer connected to a desktop that I want to connect to from the other desktop. The desktop that is hard wired to the HP prints fine and the printer is shared. I can print from the laptop. I need to add the HP printer to my "Printers and Faxes" dialog box.

From the Vista machine I can see both of the desktops so they are all connected.

When I try to "Ad a Printer" I cannot browse or scan to find the printer I want to connect to.

I had a NetGear USB adapter that I was using, but took it off because I was on Tech Support with them every other week for something. I had the printer working (at one time) with the NetGear. Something got turned off before I took the NetGear off (and pitched it).

A:cannot see other users in home network

In My Network Places on the problem PC can you view the shares of the PC hosting the printer? If so, do those shares include the printer? If so, what happens when you right click on the printer icon and select "Connect"?

I found this while surfing the web today...

Windows XP Home coming up short
Windows XP Home is another story. As a consumer product, it suffers from two policy deficiencies. First, consumer products do not qualify for Extended Support, but instead move directly into the online support phase after Mainstream Support ends. Second, whereas business products are guaranteed Mainstream Support for two years beyond the release of the next subsequent version of a product (in this case, Windows Vista), consumer products do not get this built-in transitional period. The end result is that Windows XP Home will leave Mainstream Support and enter online support on January 1, 2007—in less than a year.

When that day comes, XP Home users may feel left out in the cold, because they will no longer qualify for security updates, and will not be able to purchase support from Microsoft. Finding this situation somewhat alarming, I contacted Microsoft's representation to clarify the matter. A Microsoft spokesman relayed the following to me:

Microsoft spokesman said:

"For consumer products, security updates will be available through the end of the mainstream phase. For Windows XP Home Edition, there will be no security updates after 12/31/06." Regarding paid support for problems unrelated to security patches, I was told that "Users who want to continue to receive support after the Microsoft assisted and paid ... Read more

My kids each have their own account in XP Home, but recently when one sets a new desktop background they all get the same one. Not too long ago they each had their own unique background, but now the settings seems to have been lost.

Does anyone have any clues?
