Q: P70 Windows 10 [64] - Can't update Intel Management Engine Software 1914.12.0.1256 to latest

Hi everybody,i'm trying, for a long time, to update my Intel Management Engine Software 1914.12.0.1256.When i go in LENOVO Vantage i see the critical update and install it with completly reboot. When after reboot return to LENOVO Vintage and check for updates i see again the new version to instal. Now the last version is 1932.12.0.1298 but i have this problem also with the previous versions.I tried to install it locally using the software downloaded from LENOVO site, but the resul is the same: software installed but not present in the system. Every time i reboot and run the UPDATE from LENOVO VIntage it tells me I still need to install it.Why this? What can i do?And to finish my post, i don't know if it depend from this update but my Ethernet device (Intel Ethernet Connection I219-LM) most of the time it doesn't work and i'm forced to work with my wi-fi connection.Below a screenshot of the situation. Thank's in advance to allm.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I can't seem to find this in the Intel Download Center anywhere.

I have an Alienware M14X R1, and the IMEI driver listed on Dell's support website for my model is several years old and severely out of date. Windows Update doesn't seem to have it either.

Thanks for any help!

I have two Lenovo T470s that seem to have lost the ability to access any of the Intel vPro options following a bios update using the Lenovo update tool.  When going to the boot menu (F12) there is no Ctrl+P option any more. There is also no mention of Inter MBEX in the Bios menus. During the Lenovo boot screen, I can press Ctrl+P and it will say "launching ME configuration screen" and then it will go into Windows. Full Model Number 20HGS4DJ00CPU i7-6700UBIOS Version N1WET49W (1.28) 7/4/2018

Hi, for the past couple of weeks I have been running System Update 5 on my T440 ThinkPad Laptop and each time I would get the same recommended result to install: Intel Management Engine 11.6.I proceed to download, install, then restart. I run System Update again, I get the same result. For some reason the software isn't being actually installed on my laptop. I've went through this for like 10 times, and it never properly installs. I tried running a driver update on Lenovo's website, same result.  Processor: Intel (R) Core(TM) i7-4600U CPU @ 2.10 GHz 2.69 GHz RAM: 8.00 GB System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor OS: Windows 10 Education

Hello, I have a Lenovo T430 laptop.I updated to Intel Management Engine Firmware 8.1  , and saw a big performance loss. In Windows Experience Index, My processor had a subscore of 5.9 before, (with version 8.0), now it has dropped to 4.9.  And it is actually very noticeable. My question is: Is it possible to download to 8.0 again? I know about the risks, but I am willing to take it. I tried downloading the 8.0 version, to downgrade, but it doesn't work. (ass seen in the picture). So, as said: What can I do to downgrade to 8.0?Thanks for help.

On my P50, when I check for updates with Lenovo Companion, it always tries to install Intel Management Engine 11.0 Firmware, and it downloads, says it failed when the little black command prompt opens, reboots, and then the update history said it was installed, yet Intel Management Engine 11.0 Firmware keeps popping up as an update.  What is this update supposed to do? Why is it failing? Everything else on this computer is up to date.

When I run the "Update" app on "Lenovo Companion" it tells me I need this and then appears to go through the whole installation process followed by a reboot. But then when I run the "Update" app again it tells me I still need to install it, as if it never happened. I went to the Lenovo support page to try to install it from there but I have the same problem, in that after rebooting and running the "Update" feature it tells me I still need to install it. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have a ProBook 450 G3 running Windows 10. I am planning on updating the BIOS to N78 Ver. 01.15 Rev.A (from Ver. 01.12). I noticed the following statement on the BIOS download page: "HP strongly recommends updating the Management Engine firmware to version 11.0.18.1002 to prevent BIOS/Management Engine firmware corruption issues.". How can I determine the version of the IME firmware on my system? The latest version of the IME firmware for download is 11.0.0.1202 ... should I just go ahead and download and install that before the BIOS update? Thanks in advance,Mike

A:BIOS Update / Intel Management Engine Firmware

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. To answer your question about Intel ME... Perhaps in the Control Panel > Programs and features. When you find it there click on it and it should show a versionorif you search for it in C:\Program files or C:\Program files (x86) and search inside the folder, it should show the version somewhere. You may also see if this tool will work on W10 > https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19009     But considering you already have experience with BIOS things , I am wondering why do you want to do it again... General recommendation I provide to users/customers is NOT to upgrade BIOS/UEFI unless they experience any kind of specific BIOS/UEFI issue. Updating just for the "noble cause" of updaing and just for using the latest verson is not solution. Any kind of update (no matter for what and who relesed it) can fix 2 issues but may introduce 10 more issues. Additionally, upgrading the BIOS (for any vendor) poses more risks because BIOS recovery is not that easy as compared to typical software updates IF something goes wrong. Same applies for Windows Updates, OS update, drivers updates, etc - upgrade/update IF you have issues which you know are fixed in the newer version or for some severe security issues. Otherwise, keep the existing version as long as possible.

I own an Inspiron 5558 laptop.  For the past few months, this Intel Management Engine Interface Driver keeps asking to update the software.  I have tried both a complete removal followed by a reinstall and just a repair.  After both sequences I restarted the laptop.  It is still asking to update the software.
I am out of warranty on my laptop but would still appreciate any/all suggestions to resolve this.
Thank you!
Lou

A:Intel Management Engine Interface Driver keeps asking to update

I'm having the exact same issue.  My  wife got a new XPS so I dusted off her old 5558 and put an SSD in it, reformatted and seemed to get everything updated.  I had dell update installed and I think that's what was causing the once a day notification updates.  I also have supportassist installed.  With support assist when you launch it (it doesn't start on startup) it will notify you but I don't think we have the need to open that every day.  Maybe once a month or so?
Which Dell update programs do you have installed?
I know there's Dell Command but that looks similar to supportassist.

I was working away the other day and I received a Lenovo critical pop up which I recall was for the Intel update and I clicked the update button.
I have a Lenovo W520 and now whenever I put the computer to sleep, it looks like it went to sleep however the sleep light only goes on for a second and then goes off, where the light should stay lit until I want to use the computer again.  Now the computer will only start back up if I press the power button and it asks if I want to start the computer normally etc. as it looks like the system now crashes on sleep.

I checked the power options and all looks ok and I don't see new messages in the event viewer except for "The previous system shutdown at 9:37:45 PM on ?06/?07/?2017 was unexpected." and "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Imediately after restarting I noticed how much slower the computer was. It took some extra time to boot up, and was much, MUCH slower at starting up apps like spotify and firefox, etc. I also noticed a massive slowdown when playing. The task manager shows a normal usage of CPU, RAM and GPU, I'm usually at no more than 40% and I can still notice the slow down at all times. Is there a way to roll this update back? Do I have to wait until another not-messed up update? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I am not a native speaker so that the description below may not be clear. Last night when my laptop attempt to upgrade its Intel ME firmware, the system appears a blue screen with words "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed". After that, the procedure of boot of my laptop became "auto power off twice after press the power button, then it will boot into BIOS itself". In other words, it likes: t0: Power button pressedt1: Screen was turned on for about 1 sec, then the whole laptop powered off.t2: happen the process of t1 againt3: boot into BIOS I guess the Intel ME firmware was broken. I tried to googled for related information but found nothing. I swear I will not upgrade my BIOS or Intel ME firmware anymore... Then I downloaded the Lenovo Recovery Image and used it to reset my computer into the factory status, but the issue still exists. I think it is because the Intel ME is a independent chip to the OS, so even recovery cannot help. Thanks for your kind help.

I was pretty shocked to see this update.  Apparently, intel management engine is a backdoor which allows full control of the machine, even if the power is off. It is something on intel motherboards.  It has been noted that a backdoor can be used by a) legitimate corporate administrators, b) hackers c) gov. organisations. Firstly, why would any user want to install a back door which allows undetectable access to the machine without the users knowlege or inteveition? Secondly, why is this installed by Lenovo as standard, if it is only used by some large organisations? Or am I wrong? I have seen many articales about it saying "Intels management engine is the single most dangerous piece of computer hardward ever created", mainly because it has access to everything and noone knows exactly what it can do. Now I am trying to find a way to remove this major security back door. It seems that noone knows if disabling it in the bios is actaully disabling it, or not. It seems not, as you can still get a response from AMT if you hit: http://127.0.0.1:16992/logon.htm, and if you open the "intel management and security status" application, it says that AMT is enabled. It seems ifyou connect to a public wifi, the machnes AMT is avaible to everyone on the network. I have also seen that there are exploits allowing hackers to gain full access to your machine with trivial exploits such as sending null password. Very very bad. ... A:critical update: "intel management Engine 8.1 Firmware" a potential major security back door?

Management Engine's behavior has been well documented since it's inception. You're a little late to the party The legitimate and intended use of the feature is for system administrators to provision and manage corporate machines remotely and conveniently. It's not installed by Lenovo as standard, but rather Intel on any platform certified vPro (your system would have had this sticker from the factory). If you are not in a corporate environment managed by Intel AMT, then it only provides risks and zero benefit. Removing it is impossible; wiping the ME firmware externally causes your system to shutdown 30 minutes after boot. The firmware update you see fixes an exploitable vulnerability that was recently discovered in Intel's ME firmware.

It always does the same.I have last chipset, bios, etc. drivers installedHowever, I have checked in the PC properties that there is a warning  in the Intel Management Engine Interface driver, showing this message: STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE.I have searched in driver donwload in Lenovo support, and it seems there is no driver for Windows 8.1 for this model. I have found this:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS029251 that is for Windows 7, and this https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS040228 that is for Windows 8.1 it is not supported for the B50-70 as it states below. How can I solve this? Will Lenovo release a driver for the B50-70?Thanks
