HP Omni 27 Monitor Blackout

Q: HP Omni 27 Monitor Blackout

I currently own an All-In-One HP Omni 27 PC. For about 6 months now, the monitor has gone dark. The light at the top turns on and the fans will run, but the monitor will not come on or show the HP loading screen. I have tried the BIOS fix, but once completed, my computer does not reset like the instructions say it should. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a solution? Thanks,Noah

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was moving my computer to another room and i pluged everything in and the monitor turns on but stays black. It is a viewsonic a75f crt 17' in monitor. The osd doesnt come up so i cant tweak anything. What can i do?

A:monitor blackout

When a computer doesn't work after being moved the first thing to check would be all the involved connections. This includes outside things like the monitor cable to the back of the computer case and inside items like the video card if there is one and the RAM. Make sure these last two items are seated well in their slots. There is always the possibility that something was damaged during the move, but hopefully not.

When I play games (Battlefield 2, World of Warcraft, and most recently Spore) my monitor blacks out at random times. The monitor doesn't actually turn off, beacuse the little button turns orange (ususally means the monitor has been put to sleep, or whatever else you want to call it) I can still hear the music of the game, but I cannot see anything on the screen. Restarting the computer doesn't help either. I usually have to wait about 2 or 3 minutes before i can turn my computer back on so it will work proporly. This hasnt happened to me in quite a few months until I got Spore.

Somebody has suggested to me that it is my powersupply, and that seems pretty plausible to me. Any suggestions?

If it was the PSU, your PC would likely restart or crash in my opinion.

I would suspect overheating of the video GPU.

The last few days I have noticed my monitor screen going black for a fraction of a second and then returning to normal. It isn't happening very often, but I would like to know what is causing it; I am worried that something is going to go out permanently. Do you think it is a problem with my monitor, some other piece of my computer equipment, or do you think it might be transmission from my ISP? I know it happens when I am on the net as that is where I am most of the time. I don't know if it occurs when I am in other applications. I suspect that it is an equipment problem, but I am not sure which piece. Your opinion would be appreciated.

A:Monitor blackout

Well, the first thing you need to be sure of is if it is just while on the net. If so, it isn't hardware...

Is the power light on the monitor going out too? If it is, then the monitor is losing power, which could mean a loose connection either inside or outside (to the outlet).

Also check the connection from the computer to the monitor - if it is loose you could lose picture randomly.

I noticed a couple of days ago that the monitor seemed to go to sleep, as it just blacked out. But it came back on again. Tonight it blacked out, and won't come back on. I connected it the desktop monitor and it worked ok. I saw a previous thread that it could be a backlight or inverter. How hard is it to replace either/both of them. Any suggestions on where to buy them? Lastly, what if those two things don't fix the problems.

Thanks for your advice!

Honestly for the cost of money and time and such, your just better off buying a new LCD, seeing as you can get a 22" widescreen for like 190 US dollars or less.

Hi all, I'm new to the forum so hopefully I'm posting correctly.

Windows XP
Athlon 64 4200+
Nvidia 7950GT

I have a problem with my computer...
Sometimes when the computer boots, vertical green or red lines consisting of dots appear. Before the green loading bar finishes and I can enten the desktop, the monitor turns off and its powerbutton turns orange. But the computer is still running/booting...
This can also happen randomly, for example after an hour, when I have successfully booted. Once there appeared short, horizontal blue lines around the mouse cursor before the blackout.
I have tried different monitors but same thing happens: Blackout
I have found out that the computer always boots successfully in safe mode so it could be a driver issue?

For a long time I have had to quit gaming because there would appear red dots and tremendous lag on the screen as soon as I would run anything in 3D. So it could also be a hardware issue (probably heat since I have 100+ degrees C when gaming, but that has always been the case)...

Recently I had a BIOS beep code, 1 long and 3 short, which concerns the graphic card.

But is it for sure the card dying (after 4 years) or could it be the dvi -> vga adapter?
And what's up with the successful safe boot?

Regards Carpetman

Thats way too hot and is more than likely the cause of the problem, running at those temps may have physically damaged the graphics card! I am running a GTX460 and mine maxes out at about 45-50C when gaming.

Do the lines / dots appear before or after the Windows loading bar comes up?

Have you ever cleaned out the 'dust bunnies' from inside the case. Dust will build up around heat sinks / fans etc and this will reduce the systems cooling ability leading to overheating and ultimately component damage if it gets bad.

What were you using to check that temperature?

I've done a little research and a little reading on my issue, but I've had real success with help on these forums before, so hopefully someone out there can give me some advice. I'll try and give you a brief synopsis.

My brother purchased a Toshiba Satellite laptop probably two and half or three years ago. It's been used quite a bit, but taken care of very well. Just a couple weeks ago my mother went to turn it on and the screen didn't show anything - completely black. No flash, no flicker, nothing. There were no issues or "signs" that we noticed that may have indicted it was about to "burn out" prior to this incident.

So, I took it to work on it. I plugged in an external monitor and got a picture. The laptop still works fine.

So, basically I've learned it could be a couple things. An lcd inverter cable, the inverter itself, a burnt out backlight, or some other component/wiring in the laptop's monitor?

I'm not really sure how to determine what it is, and I would like to spend as little as possible. So, does anyone have any suggestions in determining the issue before buying some inverter cable or inverter? I took the panel off and briefly looked at some of the wiring but have avoided prodding, poking, and touching as I know it is very sensitive and fragile.

So, give me your thoughts and if you suggest I take it to be repaired, do you have an idea of what a fair cost would be for this? I'm confident I can re... Read more

Recently i have been getting BSOD while playing games and watching videos. Monitor blackout happens occasionally, with me having to restart the computer in order to get the screen back. I thought it might have been a software issue so i went and reinstalled the drivers, but to no avail. Im am suspecting it might be a hardware problem, but i cannot confirm it and i wont want to spend the unnecessary money unless hardware is really the issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a 17 inch Likom CRT monitor. It's about 4-5 years old. When I turn it on sometimes it will come on with no problems then after about 10 minutes the whole screen becomes black and there's a bright wide line in the middle part of the screen. The "Power" light is still on. I've tried it on multiple CPUs and it still happens.

Can someone give an explanation for the problem? The warranty has expired and I'm not sure if the part damaged will be worth the repair - should I just get a new one?

A:Monitor blackout(except for a bright line in the middle part) after ~10mins

Something is broken in the vertical scan system. Depending on the flaw it can be fixed for cheap or you may have to scrap the monitor.

Take it to a repair shop and see what they say.

Not sure if this is the correct catogory to post my question in, but here goes. I have a HP Omni 100, about 6 yrs old. About a month ago, I went to the restore function & my computer crashed. Now, all I keep getting on my screen, after the initial start up is select keyboard function, or something of that nature. I hope I have not lost everything I have in that computer, since I have pics I cannot replace. Two or three months ago, it started to act funny. The page I was on would turn into a smaller square in the middle of the screen, and that square would be full of multi colored lines.(Like snow on a tv screen) Now I cannot get it to do anything but show the keyboard page????? Please advise as to what I could or should do. THANK YOU Roger

What is your OS?

Read other 2 answers

I'm not quite sure if this only applies to XP; but I'll post it here anyways because my OS's are XP.

Yesterday, I opened up both desktops to clean them. I used a dry microfibre cloth, and finished without any problems. However, when I hooked everything back up, the computer would turn on and the monitor have it's light on, but the actual monitor just stays black.

What could have happened? The light fo the power to the monitor is on; just the display isn't.

On one of the computers, it was the Video card that wasn't connected, so I connected it but now when I turn it on it leads me to the safe mode selection screen, and choosing any of the options (Start normally, last known good config, safe mode) just freezes the computer. I have yet to open the other one because it takes longer, but I'll post my results in a little when I finish inspecting it.

EDIT: It also isn't a monitor problem, I just tried two different monitors with both computers. It's something to do with the actual computer itself I believe.

So, anyone have any idea as to how I could fix this?

Do you get a single Beep a few seconds after you turn on the computer? A single beep means that the computer POST'ed correctly. No Beep means there is a hardware problem, usually with the motherboard.

I'm a complete IT novice and require some assitance!  My work computer which is run through a thinclient box has got a problem that our IT department can't figure out.  Basically the screen will black out for about 3 seconds, sometimes once and hour, othertimes 3 times in the space of 10 minutes.  I've had a new thinclient, a new screen, new cables, even changin the plug into a different power source to no avail!  It's pretty annoying as you can imagine. When it happens a connection symble appears in the top left.
Any ideas at all as to what the problem is?!

I have one that has gone very dark...although you can just make out the graphics. I believe this is because the backlight has gone, which I assume is just a bulb change....or am I being naive?

I was asked to look at a computer that was doing some strange things. My first thoughts was an infection. This computer is a (3 or 4 years old Gateway) Pent.4 with 256 mb of ram and 40 gig HDD. I can not give the exact model because I only was with it about 45 min. and the owner was not sure if the wife wanted it worked on. What the computer problems are!
1. Black screen, Random loss of picture for a couple of seconds then picture returns.

2. Extremely slow!

3. After 5 or 6 #1's It shuts down on its own and reboots.

My current attack plan if asked to repair.
1. Look for obvious hardware problems (bad capacitors, check out the ram, make sure video card is in secure, and all fans are working).

2. If I find no problems, then clean off HDD and reinstall factory Disc.

Are there any other suggestions or maybe comments?

You may want to try running it in safe mode for a while before isolating the fault to the hardware.

After watching/waiting for 10 minutes, i held my finger on the power button to turn the machine off, waited a few minutes, hit the button again. The second time, the fan started going but the blue light did NOT come on this time. I waited 5 minutes and nothing happened. This time, I just pulled the plugg out of the wall and waited 10 minutes, plugged it back in, hit the button, same thing,,,fan engaged, no blue light,,,fan just spinning/whirring but nothing comes up on the screen. I have another one of these computers and i switched power supplies and the power supply is fine.

Just started having problems with my WinXP when I open an email that has music attached. The screen blacks out for a few seconds, then the music plays but the colors on the screen have altered and there are little colored squares around the tiny envelopes that indicate the emails.
Once I close out of that email, it reverts to normal again. But it's aggravating!! I have OE6 and just this weekend had a problem with it.............when I opened OE, the window would show up with my OE folders showing on the left, but nothing showing in the main window........no email, no nothin'. Is there a file missing now or what??

Since a while ago, my computer had acted strange by not suddenly being able to access internet at all. Applications such as MSN Messenger were still connected and worked, but I could not browse the net. Yesterday, it seems like my computer had hit it's point where I had no choice but to reformat the computer, as it constantly shut down without restarting after a while of using the computer.

So today, I decided to do it, and I went through the formatting process etc. etc etc. but the strange thing is that my computer still randomly crashed a bit now and then WHILE going through the windows installation process. I opened up my chassi and cleaned it from dump, removed some PCI cards and double checked if everything was connected properly. After I had finished, I plugged back all of the cables and booted the PC up again to go through the installation process, but now it seems like because of the random crashed, the windows installation also had ****ed up, so I had to format the drive AGAIN.

The second time I formatted, everything went smoothly without problems, and now I am writing this topic. Everything is ok for now, but I am worried there might be some problems with my hardware. For the last day or so my computer has been having blackouts. The screen just all of a sudden goes completely black, my monitor gets no feed, and everything seems to stop. I can still hear the fans in my case moving, but everything actually going on seems to totally lock up.

With Winamp running, usually it'll play for about 5-10 seconds after the blackout. But the computer seems to be stopped dead when it happens, as even if I hit enter immediately when it occurs, I don't send what I'm typing over YIM.

In safe mode the problem still occurs, but the duration between blackouts is a great deal longer. About an hour or two, as opposed to every 10 minutes in normal mode.

Everything works just fine after a restart, until it blacks out again.

Take the side off and make sure the box is clean. Blow out any dust and hair with compressed air. Inspect and clean the heatsink and cpu fan.

There is no point analysing your issue as your system may be compromised.

The best course of action is to: Purchase a legitimate Windows 7 licence.
Format the HDD.

I am buying a new gaming PC: i7-4790K CPU, nVidia GTX970, 2 x Corsair 256GB LX SSDs... The case is a Coolermaster Elite 130 (mini format) as I live abroad much of the year for my work and want to be able to take the PC unit as hand luggage on flights, to run MS Flight Simulator there.

Problem is, I am in Sri Lanka for my present contract (only a problem is respect of this PC - otherwise not!), where the current is very unsteady. I have a surge guard I plug into, but the real issue is sudden blackouts. Not all that common here, but much much more so than in the west.

Buying a suitable UPS adds a huge amount to the cost and for the odd occasion when a blackout coincides with my PC running, I wonder if it's worth it. Can there be hardware damage from a blackout? I've never noticed anything amiss like that before when I have lost power.

In 6 months I'll be back in the UK, so again, a disincentive to pay for a 650W+ UPS. (The PSU is 600W). Ideally I'd buy one, but getting it over here + cost... Don't want to risk any hardware damage though, needless to say. But is that really a possibility? O/S is Win7x64

What do folks advise?

A power outage, while the PC is powered on, can cause untold damage. Corrupting the hard drive is one often problem. The surge protector, unless a high quality protector may not help you.

When logged on to my ISP, links take progressively longer then eventually stop completely. The screen then blacks out and I have to switch off the machine before I can start again.
I have done repeated AVG Grisoft tests and no viruses or threats have shown up.

I was advised to try the video card drivers, I isntalled the newest Omega ATI drivers (which is what I was using before), and that doesn't seem to have helped.

Can anyone tell me what kind of cable does a blackout buster b6u use & where can I get one?

A:Blackout Buster B6U

You talking about the power cable? It takes the same type of power cable that you CPU or Monitor takes. Check out their website here http://www.pkworld.com

So on occasion my computer just shuts off. I would then try to turn it back on but it would just shut back off in a second. At that time i leave my laptop be for some hours before i even attempt to get back on. it does seem to be heating way too much at times like this. Other times, i could be on my laptop and when i restart my laptop it turns on but stays at a black screen- and does nothing. The fan (or whatever generates the noise) seems to be working slower as well.
My guess is that its the hard drive. Unsure but would like some other expert opinions. Thanks!

In the middle of doing something on my computer it occasionally shuts down by itself and then reboots. It has done it 3 times today.
I have automatic download of WinXP updates, Norton Live Updates, Windows Defender - and sometimes all three are trying to get through on my dialup service, but not today. I did get a notice to update my Java but have not done so yet.
Could this be a hardware problem, or a software problem? A local Radio Shack computer man told me a few weeks ago that it was spyware/malware causing it and I needed to get a fix. I checked and found I already had that fix!
Thank you for any suggestions.

A:Cause of blackout and reboot

I'd start by running one of these for a couple of hours. ANY errors are a problem.
