T61P VLAN?

Q: T61P VLAN?

Hi. I have T61P with Intel(R) 82566MM Gigabit NIC. Is't possible to use VLANs with this configuration? I need to use two separate networks. Thank you.

Preferred Solution: T61P VLAN?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Jangun, I am looking for the same info because I need to capture the frames from a network router and analyze the protocols. Here is what I have tried so far, but haven't succeeded. In the key location "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318}\0001",I changed the TaggingMode from 0 to 1, but I don't see the vlan tag in the captured frames. I will try more later on and keep you posted. Cheers,OX

Hi,

I'm definitely not a networking expert but I now wish I was. I have to create a vlan for some external equipment to use our network and they need specific ip addresses. The switches are Netgear FSM's which do apparently support managed vlans (I think that's important). I think I can set up a vlan but cannot see what the iprange will be for them to connect to. Maybe I'm totally confused. Can anyone help or advise me where to look for help? I have the manuals from the switches but they seem to make little sense to me.
Thanks for any help.

Hi,
I am using my laptop home and work site. At work site I connect my laptop to a tagged port with 3 VLANs so I setup 3 VLANs on intel Ethernet connection adapter. They works fine. However, my home network has no VLAN setup, and I am not able to connect to
home network with same Ethernet port. Is there a way I can connect both Home and work network without deleting/Adding VLANs every time I use different network?

Thanks

Hi all.  Can a Thinkpad T61p be connected to a television, or an external monitor?  When you oreder a T61p online, there is no option to purchase an external monitor; why is this? herodotus66

A:T61p video out

If your tv or monitor has vga then yes. If not, you still can do it, but I believe you will need a vga converter that converts to whatever inputs your tv has.  I use my hdtv as a monitor because it has a vga port and it works fine.  My crt tv will not work without a vga to s-video converter.

Perhaps I have been asleep at the wheel but since when have T60 and T61p models been removed from Lenovo's Driver matrices? After finding that they had I had hoped to still find a link via my Lenovo account where in addition to a T540 acquired recently, I had registered both a T60 and T61p some years ago. But I find even those machines have disappeared or been deleted from my list of registered machines. Can anyone enlighten me why these machines have been dropped and possibly advise where current or latest drivers can be found? I want to reinstall both machines with up to date Windows 7 drivers.  I'd still like to know Lenovo's view on these older models but if no longer available officially on Lenovo wonder if these two links is the best I am going to find? T60 Driver Matrix on Thinkpads.com T61 Driver Matrix on Thinkpads.com They seem to be mirrors of the old official pages anyway.

Have one refurbished T61P 6458 from 2007.  Symptoms are battery drops from 40% to 3% in minutes that can vary from each new 3 purchased non genuine batteries. OEM ones are hard to get. But one is for sure that 100% charge will give me approx 45 minutes normal usage before my T61P goes into sleep mode. Have installed battery driver and done calibrations, but when the 3rd new aftermarket compatible battery pack does the same performance as described above, I just think some computer hardware failure could be present. Or could it be all the batteries with the same fault? Any suggestions?

I have a T61P, type 6460-DVU, that I have had since new and am considering upgrading. I have read so many posts about Nvidia card problems, but I have never had any issues with mine, and on looking at the laptop, it has the intel TM2 Duo CPU  T9300 @ 2.5GHz, 3GB Ram running windows 8.1 Pro, 64bit OS which I am definitely going to change, as I do not like that OS.  As for display it has Nvidia Quadro FX 570M display card adapter.  Screen resolution native is 1680 x 1050. Serial number is L3-N3561. I still have the system backup to original config saved, but believe that it was Windows XP, and most likely will put Windows 7 Pro on it this time. In looking at what I have written above, does anyone have any comments as to what I can or should do for getting best computing out of this very dependable laptop so far? I haven't used this in some years, and just been sitting there, and decided to open it and realized what great color it has. Keyboard and touchpad is exactly how I like it. I cannot use the new touchpad and keyboards currently out on newer models and have decided to go back to these older ones with the old IBM layout. I believe that is what it was called with touchpad surrounded by three keys above, and two keys below the touchpad. Not sure what can be changed but bootup is too slow so a SSD hard drive is a must on this, what size I don't know would be best or that can be supported. Hi
Im assuming since you have a think pad that the keyboard and mouse are USB, the interlink remote is also usb?

Have you upgraded the MS drivers, Hae you tried One attached by itself to see if it stops, then another, then the last.

The integrated microphone on my T61P has stopped working since I sent it to the shop to get it fixed (they reimaged my hard drive and replaced the keyboard).

But since then, the "new" laptop's microphone hasn't worked.

It IS installed with the LATEST soundmax driver (aprl 2008), and it is NOT MUTED. microphone boost on/off doesn't work.

I tried the test voice thing in the audio properties, and it still doesnt work.

I really have no clue whats going on.

I'm usually pretty not-stupid, but I can't figure this one out.

I use nod32 antivirus, if that makes a difference.

I'm thinking its a driver conflict issue. I'm sure its not the microphone thats messed up.

I recently upgraded my Lenovo ThinkPad T61p (Type 6457-BF5) with an Intel SSD 520 Series (180 GB, removed from my ThinkPad T430s), and installed Windows 10 Professional 64-bit (Build 16299) on it. The SSD provided great performance improvement, but I also noticed something strange - the system would freeze every a few minutes, with no or light access to the SSD. During the incident, the laptop's HDD indicator was constantly on for up to a minute, and the mouse cursor could sometimes be moved, but clicking on objects was unresponsive. I searched online and found a relevant article entitled "Task Manager might show 100% disk utilization on Windows 10 devices with Message Signaled Interrupt (MSI) mode enabled" on Microsoft Windows 10 Support (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3083595/task-manager-might-show-100-disk-utilization-on-win...). The described symptoms seemed exactly the same as mine, with the same Event ID 129 events recorded in the System Event Viewer, so I followed the instructions to disable the MSI mode in the registry, and rebooted my laptop. However, the problem persisted. I installed the Intel SSD Toolbox and my SSD is in perfect condition, with the firmware version of LE1i. I posted on Intel's online community for support, but was told by an Intel employee that the SSD was an OEM version by Lenovo and Intel's own tool could not update its firmware. They advise me to seek help from Lenovo. Could you pleas... Read more

Randomly one day when I decided to turn on my laptop I hit some problems.

Here's what happens when I turn it on:
- Normal windows xp logo, startup screen
- Then when we get to the login screen problems begin
- Lots of error messages: amtmon.exe - Application Error Message, collector.exe, miniscan.exe,
RegSrvc.exe - Application Error (The exception Privileged instruction, (0xc0000096) orrcured in the application at location 0x00432a05.)
- userinit.exe, TpKmpSVC.exe, rrpservice.exe, rcgui.exe, FNRB32. EXE, and more error messages.
- Then I select the user, enter my password and all I get is a CRAPload more error messages.
- WMI has encountered a problem and needs to close..., Userinit Logon Application has encountered a problem, and a few more
- Then I get hit with a "Microsoft Windows Operation System has encountered a problem and needs to close.."
- That final one does it and I'm left with looking at just my desktop background and nothing else. The odd Error message pops up continually and im stuck.
- Control-Alt-Delete and I click on Task Manager and.... encounters a problem and needs to close.

Any Ideas on a way of fixing this?

One other thing to note is that the one thing I Can run from the initial startup screen is Lenovo's "Rescue and Recovery 4"
From here my only option is backing up some of my files and Reinstalling the operating system.
I would really rather not do this...

Hello all, I just signed up to this forum. My question is I want to convert the type 6458-CTO-WRU laptop with the PCMCIA/Smart card module over to the more common/desireable PCMCIA/PC-express card module. I bought the module already but the spring hinge cover doors are different. So I think (based on the scetchy Lenovo service & parts manual info) that I need the Type 6457 bottom cover with the PCMCIA cover door to do this conversion correctly. Has anyone done this conversion before and am I correct for just buying one off the "Auction site"? Since getting to the PCMCIA card cage module is a total P.I.T.A teardown to access it, I want to make sure to only do it once. Appreciation, Tom (PK)

Hello Tom, welcome to the community,

you are not wrong in that you need the base in order to do the job properly.  But, even though I love working on T61 systems I personally wouldn't go that route; I would just get hold of a dummy PCMCIA card and a dummy PC-Express card and not worry about the cover; probably less dirt would get inside using the dummy cards.   Your choice

Extracting a large archive from my NAS tp my desktop, drivers for example, take forever Why?I thought upgrading to a solid state drive was plug and play..Is there something which has to be done prior to installing Windows 7, after, any drivers? What?PS I have the latest official BIOS but see there is some unofficial BIOS which allows SATA II but I think my problem has nothing to do with this.If this unofficial BIOS does have something to do with my problem or even if it doesn't, if you know it, what is the Control Fn Swap option?

A:First time SSD install in T61p - system hangs or is very slow

Hello,

Some sort of corrupted Windows install, perhaps?

If it is a brand new install of Windows 7, I would suggest updating the Intel 520 120GB SSD's firmware to the latest version, wiping the SSD, reinstalling Windows 7, running the ThinkVantage System Update software to applyy the latest Lenovo specific drivers and software, applying all Microsoft hotfixes and patches, and see how the system runs then.  This should give you a known good "base installation" from which to observe and measure system performance.

If it still appears to be lagging, you could try the unofficial "Middleton" BIOS, but, keep in mind that it is not supported by Lenovo (which may be a non-issue if the T61p is out of warranty).

A:T61p - unable to boot via PXE without local hard drive

Greetings, Looking at your post from 2012 regarding PXE booting. I have the same issue with thinkpad T61 laptops, I cannot use PXE booting - actually hangs shortly after detecting the thin client server and getting a address. If I have a USB drive plugged in, the laptop boots past the freezing point and loads its thin client software no problem (Mint 16). it seems the BIOS wants to detect and check if there is a bootable drive present before giving PXE permission to boot fully, bizzare. Is there a solution for this issue? I bought the laptops specifically without drives to use as PXE boot machines. Thank you for any thoughts, info. links etc. Have a Great day.Jim.

You've went from a very stable operating system to one that by most reports is far less than stable and I suspect someting is failing to load and causing this delay and it could take monthos or years for all the driver issues to be resolved assuming they are ever resolved. Win 7 is the last version officially supported by your model and I'm not aware of any significant feature or performance benefit offered by windows 10 to consider it an "upgrade", but will reconsider if you can enlighten me. My advice when asked about getting win10 while it's free is to install it on a separate drive then remove it for about a year to allow for the bugs to be worked out, or wait till the end of the free upgrade period before installing. Also consider that after this period is over and you need to reinstall your win10 to fix problems or replace a failed drive will this even be possible? or will you then have to pay for your "free" operating system. Perhaps MS will address this question... Read more

I don't remember any restrictions on BIOS versions vs. CPU. I know of no reason not to put on the latest one:https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/7luj28uc.iso

All,

There have been multiple discussions over the past months concerning a 1 long and 2 short beep symptom on some T61 and T61p model systems.   Over the last several weeks members have begun to start additional topics on this theme and cross post between threads.

I am consolidating all the threads into this new discussion today.  Since many of these discussions were originally parallel, the dates and some of the context will now appear somewhat out of chronological order.  Please keep that in mind while browsing this thread.

If you are presently experiencing the 1 long and 2 short beep code with a black screen on boot up, I would recommend that you contact service at this time for assistance.

UPDATE 1/4/2011

Previously, I have advised customers to contact service for assistance with the symptoms discussed here. In an effort to maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty, Lenovo has repaired a number of systems as post warranty exceptions. Lenovo will continue the post warranty support; however, with some revisions to the extended coverage effective December 31, 2010.

Customers who experience these symptoms on qualifying models that are no more than six months beyond expiration of warranty should continue to contact support for assistance. This additional coverage ends March 31, 2011.

Coverage beyond this date is available under the terms and conditions of extended warranty or maintena... Read more

Hello, I meet the same problem with congfucius(http://lnv.lithium.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=28970) I just powered my T61p normally this afternoon but nothing displayed on my screen. And it gave a 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. I tried several times and resulted same. I am aftraid it was the problem of the GPU (NVidia  FX570M). I heard that the T61p is in the defect product list of NVidia's GPU-gate. Unfornately, my T61p is out of warraty now. Is any one can help me? Will lenovo serve this replacement of the video card? Thank you.

Hi all, So I've been running Win-10 build version 1607 for years now and no problems. Now MS is forcing a new auto-update to build version 1709. The problem is when the update script(s) shut down the machine, it hangs forever and never reboots, just the spinning wheel, no mouse, keyboard, etc. I have to hard power it down and it reboots fine still on build 1607, then Windows wants to update again doing a fresh download and the process repeats. I updateed the bios to the latest (V 2.30) and no change.  I'v deleted all the update files and still no change. Has anyone run into this and have any suggestions? Thanks, Tom D.

I have a four-port router with all its ports used at present. I want to add an 8-port switch; but, I am confused about one of the specifications listed at NewEgg on the switch. It says:

VLAN Support: No

I intend to add this switch by connecting it to the router. Is there any reason it will not work?

And, what do they mean by this VLAN Support: No?

Q: VLan

My company is getting too big for our router, so to speak.
I have it giving out 100 DHCP addresses (divided amongst lan, wireless, and phones, not to mention guests), and reserve the rest for internal items such as printers, the phone system, and network hardware, servers, as well as virtual pc's.

Anyways, since we now occupy space in a building next door, and may soon take more space, I think I need to be ahead of things here. I was thinking about a Vlan system between the offices but I don't know much about them.

What I want in the end is that I get a range of IP's, and that everyone in both buildings can easily see the servers and printers, and internet.

I'm currently using simple gear - nothing managed or high end. I've used managed switches for clients, just never needed them in the office before.

The modem connects to the router (RV016) which connects to a Barracuda WebFilter 310 which connects to the main switches (D-Link DGS1024D). There's a wireless AP in each building.

I'll be gone for vacation starting Thursday but I'll be checking back as time allows. I just wanted to get this started before I forgot

Any and all ideas are appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hi,
Needing a little bit of help. I've got a XenServer which one of the VM's has a virtual VLAN adapter running on VLAN 7. I'd like to enable on our Netgear Prosafe switch to have that link from the server access the network, and the VLAN from the VM only access another device on VLAN 7..

In a little more detail this is the setup..

We have Kerio Control running in a XenServer VM.
The server has two physical network interfaces, eth0 goes directly to a modem/router. eth1 goes to the LAN.

I can create a VLAN adapter in Kerio (which I've done) which is on eth1. I'd like that VLAN to go to our secondary modem/router as a failover connection in kerio rather than connecting to the LAN at all..

the secondary modem/router cannot have ANY access to the LAN, just the VLAN7. I've tried setting up tagged and untagged ports in the switch but to be honest, I haven't really played around with VLAN's and am unable to get the setup to work..

Suggestions?

Okay, so I bought a new 96gb ssd for my boot drive, and it works great an all, but its a bit slow, so I thought that I would just buy one of those cd-bay replacement caddies and put a hard drive in there. It is detected, it does fit, and there is a led indicator that shows that its powered, but after maybe 5 minutes of continuous use (i.e. formatting, transferring files), it shuts off; disappears from the face of my computer saying anything transferred might not have saved correctly and I may have lost some data. However, I do notice two things, one is that it still spins (so there must be power, right?) and secondly the HDD works completely fine via USB.  There are then two solutions that I have found that get it back to being able to be detected (none of which last more than 5 minutes of use, so that doesn't solve the problem). One is to restart with the HDD out and plug it in when the computer is booted up. The other is to take it out, plug it into a SATA to USB adapter and access it, and put it back in the caddy and it will detect.  I'm pretty sure of the following: it is not because of power issues, as I can run it via usb it is not the hard drive; it works fine in the main hdd tray it is not because my ultrabay is broken; my CD-RW works fineHere are my specs:Lenovo T61P Core2 Duo @ 2.4Windows XP 32-bit 3gb ramKingston V+100 SSD @ 96gbFujitsu 160gb 5400 HDD(came with laptop)eBay knockoff hdd caddy  In short, how do I test out if its my caddy... hey bleungzorz, only way i can see is that you test the knockoff on a different unit. i do believe that when you bought the caddy from eBay the reseller did mention what laptops it is compatible with. try it on those laptop and see if the same issue occurs.

Hey guys, currently the small network I'm updating hardware on had a Cisco 3640 that I replaced with a 3825. Got all of that done but the next step is to replace the Foundry 9604 with a HP 3500YL-POE.

We have a private subnet and a public also. Previously there was a need for multiple VLAN's due to having access open for customers at this site, but that has gone away and with it the need for the multiple VLAN's.

Current Switch config looks like this (with some of the useless stuff cut to save reading):

vlan 2 name Staff by port

I support a small Workgroup, and one of the machines has become invisible on the network.
It's a combination of XP Pro and Home. All Dells, all up to date.
The Home machine can see the other two machines, but the Pro couldn't see the Home machine until I threw a bunch of crap at the wall and it miraculously became visible. That included installing SP3 on the Home machine, verifying it was pingable, winsock reset, and running the network setup wizard.
In the process I noticed the only difference in the three machines was the "Realtek Vlan" installed on the pro machine.
Did that have anything to do with the problem (This network has worked perfectly for years) and what is it?
