how to establish a ODBC connection in Windows 7 64 bit ?

Q: how to establish a ODBC connection in Windows 7 64 bit ?

Hello,
I have created a ODBC connection between MS Acceess 2003 and Excel 2003 in Windows 7 32bit enviroment . The Macro ( code ) is as follows :
ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add(Connection:=Array(Array( _
"ODBC;DSN=MS Access Database;DBQ=D:\Acces7dat\STOCKS.mdb;DefaultDir=D:\Acces7dat;DriverId=25;FIL=MS Access;MaxBufferSize=2048;PageTim" _
), Array("eout=5;")), Destination:=Range("A1")) ... etc , transferring data from MS Access file stocks.mdb to an Excel spreadsheet for proccessing etc . All this works fine for the last three years until I have installed Windows 7 64 bit . Googling the problem found that I have to run the Windows/SysWOW64/obdcad32.exe file . Doing this appears the ODBC Data Source Admiinstrator with the tabs :
User DSN , System DSN , File DSN , Drivers , Tracing , Connection Pooling and About , and I can't configure all this in order to create a ODBC connection . First , is this the correct way to solve the problem and second how to setup the ODBC Data Source Admiinstrator under all these tabs ? Any help ? thanks in advance.
PS : I have reinstall Ms office 2003 in order to add missing items etc but no luck .

Preferred Solution: how to establish a ODBC connection in Windows 7 64 bit ?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: how to establish a ODBC connection in Windows 7 64 bit ?

the problem was solved by ODBC Data Source Admiinstrator , pressing the button " Add " and afterwards writing " MS Access 2003 " just right the DSN ( = Data Source Name ) label and OK , no matter should understand all of this .

thanks anyway

Hey All,

I have been having an issue with a Windows 7 Home Premium laptop where, when I establish a connection to the internet, it restarts. This happens if I connect to wireless or wired connections. I went so far as to perform a factory restore from the system partition and it is still doing it.

I came across this thread: http://forums.techguy.org/virus-oth...mputer-restarts-when-connecting-internet.html and am having the same exact issue.

There were some instructions in that thread that were specific to that persons system so I was wondering if someone would be able to walk me through the steps to get rid of whatever is causing the issue on this laptop.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Long time linux user, but first day of working remotely from home today so went out and bought a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium this morning.

I am trying to access my work PC remotely after doing a fresh install of windows and receiving the below:

"Remote desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2) The remote computer is turned off
3) The remote computer is not available on the network
Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled."

I have established some sort of VPN connection through the browser with work (sorry I am not very technically inclined, icon says "network connect" in the taskbar and shows I am conected), our techie guy said then just run Remote Desktop and type in my computer name and should connect, which it is not.

I phoned a work buddy who is working remotely who said he can ping my work machine no problem.

I tried disabling the firewall but this has not helped.

Any ideas?

A:Unable to establish Remote Desktop Connection Windows 7

Weird, just dawned on me to ping the work machine myself and it worked. Still can't remote desktop to it though.

Hi All,

Its critical for me to get some solution to this problem that has all of a sudden popped up.

We have a windows server 2003 machine running some server applications. After some time it stops connecting to any other machine on network. Web browser does not open page hosted over intranet, ODBC links to DBs on other machine stop connecting, remote desktop windows to other computers on network do not open, etc. However, it keeps pinging other machines.

Although, from some other machine, I can open remote desktop window to this server. I suspect the server reaches a point where it cannot open any more connections (maximum sockets opened?). After giving a restart, the server works fine (for a while!)

Can anybody help me with this? Server is hosting an application at client-site which is in production. Can't afford any downtime. Any help/suggestion will be highly praised.

Regards
Adnan

I have a little knowledge in troubleshooting a wireless connection but I really can't connect. My wireless utility card can detect a wireless connection but cannot establish an association. What's wrong with it? And by the way, i have a windows mobile and it can connect to my router wirelessly with no problem. So i guess, the problem is in my laptop. Lastly, i don't have any problem with wired connection.
Here are the things that I have done already but with no avail:

1. tried connecting to other wireless connection
2. tried updating the wirless card driver
3. tried disabling/enabling the wireless adapter
4. tried changing from wep to wpa..and to unsecured
5. tried powercylce - modem-router and my laptop
6. tried system restore on the first day i was not able to connect wirelessly

My observation or error i found in the event viewer log for wlan-tray

1.unable to gain access to user store
2. unable to set country code setting ...country code ''zz'' for unknown region

HOPE you can help me with this.

This problem is my Dad's and I have been trying to help him over the phone (we're 2000 miles apart) to no avail. I am hoping someone can offer better information than the tech support from Earthlink DSL.

He just signed up for the Earthlink DSL service in Biloxi MS. All equipment received fine - new NIC, new cabling, 2nd new DSL modem, Dell computer (relatively new - no problems) w/XP Home. All lights are flashing and showing connectivity as well as data flow between modem & phone jack & modem & PC. All filters are in place on phone lines. Everything is in order physically.

With a dynamic IP configuration he is receiving an IP address of 172.16.1.10/16 and a default gateway of 172.16.0.254. The DNS servers were set statically at the request of Earthlink support with the addy's of 207.69.188.185 & 186. Both of these servers are pingable from my computer. I had him copy down the dynamic address above and type it into the TCP/IP properties of his Local Area Connection. Today when implementing this there was a moment of hope: we used the ip address listed above with the indicated subnet but I changed the last octet of the DGwy to 1; had him then disable & re-enable the connection. Upon doing this something popped up from an unknown ip address asking if he wanted to connect offering a connect or cancel button. We hit connect and it started the Earthlink wizard which eventually failed. Now by virtue of the fact that an outside ip address was maki... Read more

I've developed a site www.kitkrazy.com using PHP, Access and an ODBC connection. It works very well ... most of the time.

Every now and again -- say every three months -- the site crashes, and I get the error message ...

Warning: SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Too many client tasks.,

Most recently I got ...

Warning: SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] System resource exceeded., SQL state S1001 in SQLExecDirect in E:\home\Default\kitkrazy.com\htdocs\include\topthree.php on line 15
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] System resource exceeded.

When I challenge the hosting company on this they always advise me to use a DSN-less connection. Well, it's got to the point where I'm thinking to myself, why don't I just go DSN-less and the hell with it.

So I took a look. And it seems that I'm going to have to rewrite all my SQL queries and database calls. Unless you know different ...

Is there a simple way to convert all my code from ODBC to DSN-less?

max

A:PHP: Converting from ODBC to DSN-less connection

You should probably convert to MySQL or a real database if you are having trouble with too many users accessing the database. You may also want to check all of your code to see that it is clean and you are closing all open object when the program is done with them. You will have the exact same problem with with a DSN-less connection and it will actually slow your site down. Rewriting the connection string is the only change you will need to make and if you use an include file for the DB connection string all you need to do is change one file.

I'm running 2005 SQL server on Windows 2008 server. I have both Windows 7 and XP ODBC connections to the server. Everything was working fine but the server was running slow so I tried a windows update. The update made my ODBC connection go flakey, but only on Windows 7. Testing the connection would be successful, for several tests, then fail and you would have to reboot the workstation. I have both SQL server and Native Client. Now I am unable to create a connection with either. I've uninstalled the updates which hasn't helped. It seems like the update changed a security setting somewhere. Creating a new connection now fails with SQL state 08001 and server error 10060

Regards Hakit

I have the system working now with both Win 7 and XP Pro but not really happy with the fix. The SQL passwords seem to be stored in a different encryption for these 2 OS's If I change the password on the SQL server then let Win 7 rebuild it the system works ,, but you can't use that login on XP Pro without doing the same thing over again.

Hi,

I'm not sure if i'm posting this in the correct area, but please let me know and I will move to appropriate forum.

I have a application I use that connects to a default ODBC connection "Connection1" which is the production enviroment. I want to create a shortcut on my desktop to point to the TEST enviroment so I don't have to go through and change odbc settings all the time. I added a SQL Server connection under System DSN "Connection2" which point to test database. In the shortcut properties I added to the end of the Target location "-oConnection2" so it looks like this:

C:\programfiles\app\app.exe -o"Connection2"

I saw this setup at another location and trying to set it up on my workstation. I know it's something simple i'm missing. Any help or direction would be great.

Good Day All

I have Windows 8 Pro, Firefox 23.0.1.

Firefox frequently cannot connect to some websites, also some sites Flash videos will not work. I have tried disabling Hardware Acceleration and Launching FF in Safe mode and Launched IE10.0.1 to test but the issue persists, so I think it may be W8 and not the browsers.

In Firefox the Error I receive is:

"Unable to connect"
"Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.gecrbcredit.com."

In IE10 the Error I receive is:

"This page can't be displayed"

GEMONEY is obviously one of the sites that has not worked since I started using W8 about 2 weeks ago.

I had thought it was due to the Security of HTTPS but other sites using HTTPS do not have the same issue.

I also tried to connect via IP address with this result:

Dear All,
Suddenly my VPN Connection does not work anymore - it's failing with error 807. Never had this problem before and did not change any network settings. The Remote Server is working fine, tried from other systems and did not have any problem to connect. Already tried ipconfig /flushdns and with firewall disabled. Having all Vista updates installed. Can't figure out the problem - urgent help needed...

A:Can't establish VPN Connection - Error 807

Hi,

Microsoft has explained this error code.

ERROR_VPN_DISCONNECT 807
The network connection between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission and is commonly the result of internet latency or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity.

I know that the issue does not occur on other computers. Please let us know if all of the other computers are Windows XP computers, or Windows Vista computers are included. Also please let us know if the computers are in a same domain or network.

I suggest that you temporary disable the anti-virus and firewall. Then, try to connect to the VPN again. If the issue persists, I suggest that you temporary bypass the router, and try to connect. If the issue does not occur, there are some settings on the router cause this issue.

Ok guys, here's my problem...

I was on my pc last night, everything was running fine, i was on msn, the internet and downloading music. I then went to refresh my browser and it came up with "Internet explorer cannot display the web page". At first i thought the router had gone down, but then i noticed that i was still on msn. I decided to click on 'Diagnose connection problems' - It came up with:

"xxx" is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Web service (HTTP)" with this computer.

At this time it was late so i decided to leave it until tomorrow, when i tried it again, internet explorer still wouldn't work, but google chrome did, even though it hadn't the night before, msn is also still working fine.

I have googled this problem and tried the suggestions such as turning my firewall off, this did not help, any other help will be greatly appreciated.

I just put to gether a computer kit and installed Windows 98 OS and everything seems to work ok except the dial up networking.
After spending all day working on this, I am still no further ahead. It seems more of a dll problem than anything else but I don't know how to fix it. The actual error message reads "Cannot Load Remote Network Library (RASAPI.DLL) cannot find the file." I think this can only be one of two things, either the registry is pointing to the wrong file or the file is corrupted. I have downloaded an new RASAPI.DLL file from the internet but I dont know how to install it. Microsoft has a repair for this problem. http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...B;en-us;q174579
I have gone over and over this repair procedure. Renamed the existing RASAPI.DLL to RASAPI.old and then extracted the DLL from the Windows 98 disk but it still cant find it. Thats what leads me to believe that the registry is pointing in the wrong place to find this. I went into regedit and followed the path and all seems to be ok??
Any help will be appreciated.

Okay, so I have had an unbelievable amount of problems with my HP products over the years. Customer support is absolutely terrible, and gently used products barely last a year, or fail shortly after the warranty ends. But, before I trash my current laptop, I'm going to see if anyone on these forums has any bit of information that could help.  So I put my HP stream 11 laptop away for about a month. In that time, all it did was stay in my drawer, at room temperature. It was never exposed to anything that could have done any damage. However, I pulled it out a month later only to find that the laptop shows no life whatsoever. The caps lock light blinks twice, then goes blank. This goes on for infinity.  I did tons of reasearch, so it is my understanding that somehow, the computer cannot establish a connection with the BIOS due to the battery draining. This is a terrible design if the computer must stay alive in order for it to maintain a connection with the BIOS.  Some people suggested a few documents, in which I am supposed to reset the computer by removing the battery, then holding the power button down etc. But the battery on this computer is internal and cannot be removed. According to the document, if this is the case, I'm supposed to check the user manual that came with it for specific reset i... Read more

There isn't any uninstall functionality to the SW, not in the all programs menu nor in the add/remove utility in the control panel. Here is a HJT log from the problematic computer:Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.2Scan saved at 16:31:39, on 06/11/2004Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Running processes:F:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeF:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeF:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeF:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeF:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeF:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeF:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeF:\WINDOWS\System32\cisvc.exeF:\Program Files\NavNT\defwatch.exeF:\Program Files\NavNT\rtvscan.exeF:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exeF:\WINDOWS\system32\ssoftsrv.exeF:\WINDOWS\System32\ups.exeF:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\vsmon.exeF:\WINDOWS\system32\MsgSys.EXEF:\WINDOWS\System32&#... It sounds, from the way you have worded your post that IE or another browser works OK and it is just Firefox that does not is this correct.

Re my elderly's dad's computer (I'm going to visit this weekend and see what I can do to resolve)....Dad says he's checked his separate (dedicated to his computer) phone line...that he has a dial tone, it's properly connected to the computer, etc. He gets the "connected to remote computer" message, then "verifying username and password", followed by "unable to establish connection".

Any suggestions as to where to begin when I visit him and attempt to help? Last time I checked his system, his homepage had been hijacked to "search the net" and I didn't have time to clean that one up. Maybe I should post that question to the malware/virus forum and ask if that could be the problem...or part of it?

Sometimes, the ISP has a bad modem, and if you dial in via a different number, you will get through. Make sure it isn't long distance though As far as the browser hijack, plenty of info on that in these forums, just use the search forum feature

Hello,

I've been experiencing this problem for quite some time now.I don't have an explanation for what could've caused this though;one day it just stopped working although it took me some time to realize that because I had been using another browser at that time.

So what ... u might say i'm still getting a connection through other browsers true, but when it comes to programs that are hardwired into using internet explorer ...well that might be a problem.I can't connect on msn or yim.

If you can find a solution for me i would appreciate it if it hasn't got anything to do with formating.Plus if there is a way to make yim or msn recognize any other browser it would also help a lot.

thanks

Hi, As you probably know (remember?) I have recently reinstalled my OS (Win 7) because of some malicious software, but that's not the case. The thing is that I'm unable to access some site which whom I had no connection problems before format. Sites like gigapedia.com or ifile.it (there are more of them, but these two are of particular inetrest to me) are no longer connectable. I tried to see so pattern in this 'blockade', but couldn't find it. I have adblock, but It's turned off on both sites, java is enabled, I cleared all browser cache to see if that helps but It didn't. Interestingly, when I used site anonymisers like http://www.proxybrowsing.com, problems disappeared I couls actually see conetnts of the site, but as It's required to login to these sites it didn't help me.Is It possible that thay kind of block my IP?(I have dynamic one).If any of you guys have some tips that might possibly help, please answer me.Regards,

Hello all.

I have a VPN question?

What does the error msg. "Failed to establish a secure connection" implies or means?

The above message is being received after entering username and password for authenication when attempting to connect via VPN.

I'm using Nortel Networks VPN Client.

I had used Cisco VPN as well, and have received the same above message.

Seeking an explanation and/or answer.

Jboman.

A:VPN - Failed to establish a secure connection

It means that something went wrong. It is a very generic error message and pretty useless. You should try to get some more detailed log information from your client or the server.

Strange thing happening with Outlook 2003 - basically, have set up email (yahoo as it happens), and it works fine - can send/receive without any problems, suggesting port numbers and pop3/smtp etc. all setup fine.
However, when testing the account settings (via change email settings), get an error: "Establish network connection: unable to connect to the Internet or the network..."

yet, can send and receive mail ok.

not sure if this is related, but also cannot install windows live messenger, get an error stating that 'it looks like you're offline'

firewall / antivirus temporarily off.., yet can surf without any issues.

any ideas greatly appreciated

cheers

I'll be brief and detailed. Bare with me...I'm a dialup user. Yes. Dialup isn't dead yet... who knew? My problems started when Zone Alarm Free started taking alot of CPU for no apparent reason and it was getting in the way with other programs. I decided to disable it while offline, but more than often did I forget to turn it back on before connecting to the internet. As I feared and later discovered, svchost.exe somehow changed it's normal behaviour and started consuming 100% CPU after several insecure online sessions, and always when I was attempting to establish a connection with my ISP. I had several computers display that pattern before, and my usual temporary fix was to manually terminate it from the Task Manager.Somehow, I decided having to terminate that process every time I turned on my computer was too annoying, and so I decided to do a small google search online to figure out a solution. And so, this little link popped up:hxxp://www.technibble.com/how-to-fix-svchost-using-100-cpu-memory-leak/I followed the instructions EXACTLY as they guy there described them... however, I encountered a problem in the second to last step:When Windows Update Agent finishes installing, Click Start > Run, choose the Browse button and find the WindowsXP-KB927891.exe file you saved before, press Open, then OK. Follow the prompts as it installs.I encountered an error saying that since my OS was in a different language (mine is in spanish), the instalation could not procede.I immediatel... Read more

Check your Services are Started:
COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
Computer Browser
DHCP Client
DNS Client
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Server
TCP/IP Netbios helper
Wireless Zero Configuration (XP wireless configurations)
WLAN AutoConfig (Vista wireless configurations)
Workstation

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic (or perhaps manual).

If a service is not running, open it's properties and check the dependencies. Check each of the dependencies and see which one is preventing the service from running. Checking the event log is also a good idea here, there may be clues to what is failing. If no joy, Refresh your DNS by following these steps:
Click Start > Run > type CMD
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew
(one at the time)
Reboot
If no luck,

I'm trying to set up a Teamviewer 8 connection on a Windows 7 PC. The PC is connected to a LAN but is not part of the domain. I'm using a proxy server authenticated with a domain user who has remote access permissions (to get through the network firewall).
The PC is logged on as a local user with administrator rights, but with no password. Windows firewall is disabled.

When I open Teamviewer it tries to connect but I keep getting this error message: Not ready. Please check your connection.

It says my proxy settings may be incorrect, but the same settings have previously been used successfully on other PCs. Also this PC is using the same proxy server to connect to the internet.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

A:Unable to establish a connection using Teamviewer

I would suggest contacting the appropriate IT Admin, assuming this is in a workplace setting.

If that would be you, why are you using a proxy instead of adding permissions for your user account in group policy?

Hi, my problem is as follows.
When I try to establish my l2tp VPN with an preshared key, it fails with the error 789
the same connection had worked before (haven't used it for a while)
I set up a Virtualbox Windows 7 64bit (my real system is Win 7 64bit too with current updates and),
and there the vpn connection works.
I already checked this here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926179/en
but it can't be the reason, as the explained registry settings are missing in the virtual windows system too.

my System configuration is as follows:
System:            Windows 7 64bit
network card:   Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
driver:               7.72.410.2013
the Virtualbox System is as follows:
System:                      Windows 7 64bit
virtual network card:   Intel Pro 1000/MT Desktop

I've created a log file for this connection it is available here: http://jonnyrimkus.square7.ch/stuff/network.txt.htm

thanks in advance

Hi,
From your post, I know that you got error 789 when trying to create VPN connections. This issue didn?t persist before.

Also, please check solution ?Error Code: 789, 835? in this article:

Please take time to perform the steps above and let me know the results.
