Y50-70 Laptop Black Plastic Around Screen Peeling Off

Q: Y50-70 Laptop Black Plastic Around Screen Peeling Off

I have had my laptop for just under 3.5 years and it has served me great as a college student. Just now I tried opening the laptop and it made a cracking sound, after slowly opening it I found that the black plastic border on the lower right side is not anchored to the metal backing of the screen anymore. I can push it back in place but it doesn't snap in place. I would really like to get it fixed but not sure how to go about doing that or whether or not it is something I can do myself. It is pretty inconvenient as I have to be very cautious about opening and closing the screen and it is very inconvenient as a college student.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a fairly new laptop and the cover is peeling from the casing.  Is this covered by the warranty as I would have thought this should not be happening so soon.  The service tag is CJY4J72 and the laptop is less than a year old.

Your images are not linked -- but you should call Dell support to see what they say.
If it's cosmetic damage, they won't cover it -- if it's a manufacturing defect, they should.

A:Peeling Screen

This could be a heat issue, have you checked to see if you have a build up of dust on the heat sink and fan on the CPU?If this isn't the case, look in the Event Viewer to see what errors appear at the time that you are experiencing these freezes. All events are log with a date and time.Start> right click on My Computer> Manage> Event Viewer. Be sure that you choose System. The error will appear in the far left column and will appear as a red dot with a white X inside. Each of the columns has a title at the top of them, the column that you want is the Event column. When you see an error follow it to the right across the page to the event column, there will be a set of numbers in there, this is the error code. If you right click on the error code a drop menu will appear, click on Properties, another page will open which will contain a description of the error. Please post the error codes and descriptions back in this topic.

Hi Guys

I wondered if anyone knew how to prevent the screen protector on my iPod Touch (4th gen) from peeling off. There is a small part in the bottom left corner that keeps on coming up a bit. I think it is caused by the (rubber-like) iPod Case that I have which sort of pushes on the corner of the screen protector causing it to come up/out. If I remove the case then it is fine, but I need the case to hide all the scratches on the back!

The case is a CAPDASE case which is a bit stretchy and translucent. It protects the back

When I try to "tuck" it under the screen protector it stays fine for a minute or so but then it comes off again

Any ideas. Might glue work? Will it damage the screen

It is only one corner. The rest of the front is perfect

Thanks in advance

EDIT: It is a CAPDASE Soft Jacket 2 XPOSE

That "screen protector" is used during manufacture and shipping of the iPod and you can remove it anytime to solve this problem

My lenovo l380 yoga has some kind of layer peeling off the glass touchscreen, and on the bezels as well. This is the 3rd time I've had a problem with this device in 3 months. I don't want to send my computer to the depot back AGAIN, as it took around 1 month last time, and I spent so many hours on the customer service line, trying to find out the status, and waiting for parts.Im not very sure what this is, but I don't think this is supposed to happen, and if anyone could help out, that would be appreciated. The image of the peeling is below.

Hi Everyone,  I lost the plastic locks for my X230T screen as shown in the pictures. Does anyone know where I can buy and find replacements?  Thanks!

A:X230T lost plastic screen locks

They are a weak point on that model (also X220T).  I have tried using every kind of glue I could think of, but nothing works very well.  The original is pressed in and there is a little rubber pin with a "mushroomed" tip that is forced through a hole that looks too small.  The only choice that works is to find a NEW keyboard bezel, probably directly from Lenovo.  If I remember correctly, X220t and X230t use different keyboard bezels.  There is a notch cut at the top on the X230t to make room for the different power switch on the keyboard.

So, my son dropped my laptop and the plastic where the hinges attach via screws to the lid's plasic rear cover broke. The screen is fine and the laptop works perfectly but when you open it, the lid is only attached by one screw and it's pretty unstable. I ordered a replacement rear cover for the lid (specifically for the touch screen version) and am having trouble finding specifics on it's replacement alone. Again, I don't need to replace the screen and the hinges themselves are fine - basically I just need to get the cover off, slap the new one on, and screw the hinges into it.  Of course the issue is removing the screen and putting it into the new cover. It appears you slide it off in a downward motion after taking off two small screws at the base - but do I need to glue the new one in? Any specifics would be appreciated! Thanks

I purchased a Inspiron 15-547 and now have broken plastic around the right hinge. This is said to be a known issue with this specific laptop yet Dell is telling me I have to pay for the repair? In the advertisement they claim that it was tested for 20,000 openings and closings. Are you kidding me? I haven't even opened and closed it for 10,000 times and it is this bad. SAD! This is not something I expect form a company like Dell.

How it is described to customers:

Excessive with the zeroes in the number of tests maybe! Mine is not the only case where this has happened there are many others with the same complaint. I'm wondering why Dell did not recall this laptop so I would not have purchased it in the first place.

Since I got it, it has some kind of scratches on screen but it didn't bother me for a while because I got it really cheap without 2GB of RAM when it was really slooooow for 35us$ ( everything else is ok).

I am not to good in dissassembling things so the easiest way for me is to show the situation on pics.(I am really not sure if it's on LED, or on cover glass if it has or something third under cover)

So any sugestion what to do to get it back to full functional condition is more then welcome...

Hi everyone,I have been looking for a part number that will help with my wobbly screen. The problem is with the little plastic part that surrounds the hinges. It is one long, skinny part that attaches to the screen and stretches across the hinges. I attached a picture of what I mean. I also have another pic of how the laptop doesnt close all the way. Sometimes if the screen wobbles too much it wil go into sleep mode. Not a huge problem but hugly annoying.  LCD Assembly 00HM966 has the part on it but I cant find a bill of materials for this part. There are some LCD bezels available, like 04W3903, but that would not work on my machine. I have been plenty online about replacing the hinges but the hinges arent wobbling. I can see that it is the plastic part moving on the hinge.   I am willing to macgyver it if anyone has any ideas.  Thank you in advance!

Hello HP, my name is Karl, i'm from Ireland and I'm posting in regards to my HP Envy m6. My name is probably in your books for repair and replacement on a couple of different occasions all pinpointing towards the same problem, the exterior of my laptop. Through researching different websites for selling second hand laptops such as eBay, donedeal  etc  in each case for the HP Envy m6 they all have the exact same issues and are being sold for a reason in order to get some sort of money for the poorly crafted laptop they bought for X700 plus. I enjoy the performance of the laptop, I've had it for four years and had it repaired with warranty I had, but no longer have. I'm not the only customer who has had this issue, proof lies in the forum search; http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?q=HP+Envy+M6+Broken+hinge Speaking for all of the unhappy HP customers, a recall on this extremelly common issue is much needed, i'm fully aware that there was a recall stated on the HP website, but I was never informed. For those who aren't as well off as others, repair costs for the hopeful 800 euro laptop in which was presumed to last by most customers who were capable of coughing up this money, is far too expensive. I would just like to squeeze as much time as possible out of this laptop as I'm currently low on funds and am facing the life changing exam referred to as the Leaving Cert. Side points;-life expectancy of the lap...     I have a Lenovo Yoga 13 that is out of warranty. I bought it in 2013.  With that out o' the way, my Lenovo Yoga 13's screen stays black even when the power is on...I see no Lenovo logo or anything AND the laptop keeps restarting on its own, so it is stuck in restart mode, with the screen staying black the whole time.  This laptop has been doing this (black screen even though power is on and shuts off and restarts on its own) for about 6 months now....(Jan 2017-June 3, 2017 as of this writing). This laptop works WHEN IT WANTS TO EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE, BUT NOT OFTEN.  I turned the laptop on now, and I'm typing on it now, **BUT when it doesn't work, which is most of the time**, it shows a black screen (I see nothing on the screen) even with the power on and constantly restarts on its own. Is this hardware issue a motherboard problem or a screen issue specifically? Specifically, is it the motherboard that needs to be fixed on this Yoga 13 or is it a screen issue? If it's a motherboard issue that needs to be fixed, how much would it cost? Or If it's a screen issue, how much would that cost to fix? Any help on this is much needed!

Hello and thanks for reading,

I have a 2 year old HP pavilion dv6 series laptop running windows 7. Yesterday I turned it on and it started normally but when I tried to browse on Firefox it gave me the blue screen (for the first time ever) and it shut down. Fearing I had a virus I ran it in safe mode and started a scan and began transporting my pictures via Dropbox just in case it died on me. Sure enough a weird error message (couldnt figure out what program made the message pop up) popped up saying I had a bunch of urgent viruses.. I didn't click on it at all and before I couldn't think of what to do the blue screen popped up and it shut down. When I tried to restart it the HP splash sign popped up and the screen flickered black and a blinking cursor started in the upper left corner. So this is where I stand now... Black screen with blinking cursor. Set default setting in BIOS (didn't work) and F8 (safe mode) or F11 (system restore) does nothing... The black screen just stays there. Any ideas? Is it a gonner? I'm hoping to get back on and get my pictures if possible. Help please!

Hi, I recently let my friend borrow my Lenovo V570 laptop while I was out of town because he wanted to fix the keyboard which did not work at all. The keyboard was removed and reinstalled with a new one but a worse problem was created. The power button cable was removed and the plastic piece that locks it was lost. I cannot afford to pay for computer repair or a new motherboard, I know its still good since the battery light is on and charges when plugged in.

Now I cannot turn on my laptop at all and I need it for school ASAP. I read through the maintenance manual many times for this laptop but it does not say exactly what each one of these inputs are for. So my plan was to remove the plastic lock from the cable for the touchpad. At this point I dont care if the keyboard or touchpad works (I will use USB keyboard and mouse) I just need to be able to power it on and working USB ports.
So I unplugged the plastic lock from the input I believe was the touchpad and tried to install it in the power button cable input since it looks like the same size. Problem is it is very small and difficult to work with and when I tried to install it I slightly bent one of the pins (shown in photos below.

If I carefully straighten out the pin on the cable input and try it again (any tips would be appreciated in doing this) do you think the plastic lock I removed will fit in the power button cable input? Also are these plastic lock pieces hard to find if I need a replacement?

Hi,

A disclaimer before I proceed. Im not the best with computers or computer terms.
I have a Samsung laptop (not sure of the model), and the screen broke months ago. Since then I've been using an external monitor without any issues until today. When I start up my laptop I can never see anything displayed on the external monitor until the log in screen. The monitor will always go into hibernation mode until the log in screen.

However, today it's taking longer to start up and I cant see what's going on. At first I thought windows was performing a disk scan but i waited over an hour! So that must not be the issue. I want to find a way to display what is happening on the external monitor if possible. I have been endlessly searching all day online for help. I would really appreciate any help/advice.

Hello,
I have a Sony Vaio T-series laptop (model SVT13126CXS) running windows 7. As of yesterday the screen is black...it doesn't display anything.
Laptop powers on (lights are on, fan makes noise, etc.).
I was able to plug an HDMI cable from my laptop to my TV and I am able to use the laptop using my TV screen (laptop screen is still black, but displays on TV works).
And the odd twist... this is a touch screen laptop, so I am able to touch my laptop screen and it makes clicks and moves cursor on my TV. (for some reason, the track pad doesn't work while its on TV display though).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you can give me steps into diagnosing the problem, that'd be great!

I recently did a factory restore on my laptop since it was giving me really bad problems before(BSOD on boot, unable to start in safe mode, etc). I assumed that it was caused by a bad video driver installation. Once I did my factory restore, this problem was solved, but it seems like a new one arose.

In the first few days the laptop was working fine, but I recently realised that if I unplug my AC Adapter, my laptop would work for awhile but will eventually die. The screen would just go black, then I would see weird colors and then it would go black again and I would be forced to hold the power button and restart. The funny thing is, this never happens when I have it plugged in.

I then realised that it happened when I plugged it out and moved it around, so I assumed it had something to do with the wiring inside my laptop. But it seems that isn't the case since even if I move it around while it's plugged in, it doesn't happen. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with my power supply at this point, but I'm not really sure.

If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it!

EDIT: It just happened to me as I tried to access my task manager. I did CTLR+ALT+DEL and my screen went black, and my laptop simply restarted itself.

A:Laptop screen failure; random colors followed by black screen

EDIT: It seems it has gotten way worse. It happened while it was plugged in, and not only that, but when I tried to turn on my laptop again, the screen remained black and I heard these beeping noises. (6 beeps in succession, over and over) Sometimes I turned it on and it didn't even beep. I managed to actually get my laptop to boot, but I'm afraid it will happen again.

My laptop was working one minute and then the next it won't. When I boot the computer it shows the Window Loading screen with little blue bar, then it goes to black screen.

I've attempted several times to boot in safe mode but I end up with black screen and the 'safe mode' words in all 4 corners and the arrow pointer. I put in my Windows Disc and I've had the computer boot from the disc but that leads me to a blue screen with a 0x0000007E error and recommends I boot in safe mode (which I can't).

I know the solution is to reinstall Windows XP with the disc or run a repair with the disc, but how can I do that if I can't get my computer to boot with the disc or in safe mode? I can't get to a C: prompt. I can't get it to restore to lasted working settings. All options lead to black screen or blue screen with error.

Anyone have any insight? Computer repairs shops, Circuit City to name, is asking upwards of $300 to fix this problem. Please tell me I can do it myself. Thanks

I just recently experienced the black screen on my persario 2500 laptop. I have Windows XP. The battery light is on, the windows xp logo comes up, but right after that the computer stays on this black screen. I can actually see the arrow pointer but that's about it. I tried rebooting several ways and I also reset it but nothing. It coninues to stay the same. When I leave it on the black screen for awhile it tends to go in standby mode. I took the battery out for a minute, but when i re-started it "nothing". I am trying to fix it myself by reading other helpful msgs on this sight, but it does not work for me. Also, I hear beeping noises by the battery area. I hear the fan for about a couple of min. or so then dead. HELP HELP HELP..I need my comp. School will be starting up soon. I will appreciate anyones help with this.

A:Laptop is on but the screen is black

Can you hear the hard drive start up? Also if you look real close at the screen can you make out anything on the screen? The backlight may have burned out. Also was the computer running while it was charging? I'm guessing no as you said "you turned it on this morning."

I have a Lenovo yoga 11e for school and I was just playing a few games on it and when I turned it on the next day, it showed the Lenovo logo x2 and, still on btw, there was just a black screen and nothing else, I read up on it and it says there is often a cursor but it has no cursor . Everyone says just take out the battery, but it's internal and I can't take it out because I would break it. It still has the black screen and school starts tomorrow please help me

Hey all, I Have a Dell Latitude D530 running windows 7 that has a completely black screen, this machine was brought in by the end user complaining about a bad left click. We were just giving her the original machine (the display has been working flawlessly so far) but when the user gets back to her office and plugged the machine in the display died. Now the computer is running fine, I can hook up an external monitor and everything works fine. I have updated the drivers but nothing shows up still. If I go into the display settings it doesn't even detect the laptop screen, it only finds the external monitor that I have plugged in so I can work on it. I really don't want to have to replace the screen, but I don't really know what could be causing this other than screen failure, but again but again this machine hasn't had any issues with its monitor before. Any help would be much appreciated, and Thanks in advance!

So here's the story. Months ago I was doing an update on my laptop and during it , my laptop died and from then on it was stuck in a boot loop and I was told I'd need to lay to reinstall windows 7 to fix it. I left it alone but plugged in and thus week when I tried it out again now the screen is black when it comes on. Buttons light up I can toggle WiFi on and off , it actually seems like its fine now I just can't actually see anything. I was told to fix it I'd have to send it somewhere and pay $80+...is there any other way??

Hello everyone! I always find this site useful so I wanted to post this question before I head out and purchase a new laptop today.

I purchased an HP g7-1167dx ( http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02880006 ) laptop 3 1/2 years ago. Paid $529.99 for it and have been EXTREMELY happy with it. Fast and did everything I wanted it to. I have always just closed the top and let it stay in sleep mode and would simply reopen it in the morning for another days use. I went to open it yesterday morning and I heard the fan & dvd drive "start up" like they always do, but then no image on the screen. I thought "well that has never happened". So my only option was to hold down the power button to reboot, which I did and the same thing happened.

After looking online I tried a "hard reset" or something along those lines that consisted of removing the battery, holding down the power button for 30-60 seconds, then plugging it in, booting up, then shutting down and then replacing the battery. That did not work. I swapped the memory module underneath the laptop, nothing either.

So after taking it to Best Buy Geek Squad, they removed the hard drive and tried a boot and still got nothing. He told me it is most likely the motherboard, which was an estimated $300 fix with parts and labor to send out for a fix. I decided to do some research and think about it. So my question is (sorry for taking so long to get to it) if the motherboard was fried would I still get ... Read more

I have tried to do a hard reset, didn't work. The little blue light comes on when I plug in the power cord and the power light on the other side comes on also. No screen. No lights on caps lock or numbers lock key.

I have an L70-B119 Satellite upgraded to Windows 10. When returning from sleep mode by hitting a key or moving the mouse all starts up except the display screen which stays black. I then have to hold the power button down to switch of and re-boot from fresh. Very annoying !

Any ideas to help to solve this would be much appreciated !

Thanks, Rob

I have a Dell Inspiron 2500 with 128mb of ram and a 900mhz processor that I recently installed XP Pro SP2 on. I don't really know how to describe this, but here it goes.
When I turn on my computer, it boots up normally, (as in I see the XP Pro boot screen) but, when I get to the welcome screen, the screen goes black, but the my laptop is still on because I can still hear the sounds that are associated with the XP boot up. Right now, the only way I can solve this is by attaching my monitor that is hooked up to my desktop and attach that to my laptop and then pressing the "Fn" key and F8 at the same time. (I think that this changes where the screen is displayed).
How can I fix this anoying problem?

Thanks
