Generic driver

Q: Generic driver

When I had Vista on the PC the webcam ran well with the drivers contained within Vista but when I upgraded to the "correct" driver the performance dropped.

Following a clean install of W7 the webcam again ran better on the generic driver but after I had done another clean install of W7, after an almighty foul up, the generic driver has vanished and I am left with the driver W7 tells me to download.

Can I get the generic driver back. I do not have a Vista installation disc, just the rcovery discs.

Preferred Solution: Generic driver

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Generic driver

If you uninstall the device in Device Manager, and reboot, Windows 7 will do its best to find a driver for it. It will look in Windows Update.

That is the best you can do to get your generic driver back.

I have a Xerox P1210 Xerox will not support.
DocuPrint P1210 Drivers and Downloads

Is there such a concept as a generic driver, perhaps limited fucntionallity, but a driver none-the-less.

A:Generic Driver available?

Today I tried to use whatever Vista 64 might like to use. It worked perfectly. Perhaps Xerox chooses not to create a driver, but somehow the P1210 driver is in Vista.
I clicked
Add Printer
Add a local printer
Create a new port:
entering the IP address of the HP Jetdirect print server, connecting my printer to the LAN
Then it asked which parrallel port - which confused me
I accepted Port 1 - the default
Selected finish
The printer was installed on the IP port (not parrallel) with a driver called Xerox P1210.
A simple print tested worked.
Printing a small PDF worked.
I suppose the driver has limitations, but my needs are met.

I have a Gateway LT2106 netbook that I recently purchased. It came with Windows 7 starter. I bought Windows 7 pro and installed the 64 bit version.

My system is currently using the generic PnP Monitor driver but the resolution will not go higher than 1024x768. This is an issue because all of my windows now have scroll bars for left and right. Grrrrrrr

Hi there,

Hello guys.

Every single USB flash drive worked perfectly so far, no problems at all. Until now, no matter what drive I connect, Vista does not seem to recognise it. Device manager states that the best generic volume driver is already installed but I can see the exclamation mark indicating wrong driver being installed... I think I've tried every single trick to uninstal/reinstall/fix the driver. Nothing has helped.

I am asking you for help now as I am out of ideas and have no fclue of what should I do.

Working on a fresh install of Windows Ultimate. Got everything in place, programs, etc. Still trying to troubleshoo the built-in webcam problem (not starting up, "Need WIA driver" stuff). I found a driver for it from the manufacturer but right away I noticed it didn't work, the cam didn't work and so I attempted to roll back the driver. I then noticed that generic icons replaced many of the icons in my Start menu and task bar. I decided to do a system restore back to the point before I tried the new driver. No dice. Same problem exists.

Then I went searching the forums for some ideas, many of which include deleting and rebuilding the icon cache, making the cache bigger, cleaning the dead entries from the registry, etc. I tried manually fixing the icon (replacing them) but the "change icon" command returns "cannot find" icon file. I went to look in the Windows/Installer folder and there is NOTHING in there except for a $PatchCache$ folder. The shortcuts for the generic icons do lanch their applications properly, fortunately.

I've tried a lot of stuff, but nothing seems to work. This is so annoying. I put a lot of work into rebuiliding this system and I don't want to have to rebuild it all over again. All because of a stupid, lousy little web cam driver!!!

i'm having some trouble playing any games on my PC. It's usually a Directx error. I'll go to the dxdaig. and under the notes it says "The system is using the generic video driver. Please install the driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."

I downloaded the drivers for my video card. which is an ATIvideo card. I'm not 100% sure if i did it right, or got the right driver for it.
And while trying to run a call of duty an error shows up saying Directx has encountered an unrecoverable error. and the program just quits. It's very fristrating.

I've downloaded Directx 9.0c and am still having this problem.

A:The system is using the generic video driver?

Welcome to TSF

Are you using integrated graphics? If your PC is a desktop system with a graphics card expansion slot on the motherboard you should seriously consider adding an nVidia 6600GT card or better, and using that rather than the integrated graphics. The performance improvement would be dramatic for ALL your gaming! If it's a laptop with no provision to add an alternative graphics card then perhaps you should resign yourself to playing less demanding games.
You should ensure that the version of DirectX installed on your system is the most recent 9.0c version. The full 33M installation package can be downloaded from Microsoft and downloading it will give you more flexibility for reinstalling and correcting problems than the usual Internet installation.
Alot of hits on Google about this same issue and the same suggestions were better graphics card.

'Kinda puny priority inquiry here...

I acquired a secondhand mouse. It's not bad... wireless and USB. It has two extra buttons on the left side. These are apparently rigged to send Alt-Left-Arrow and Alt-Right-Arrow respectively, because when I am using my browser those buttons trigger the Back and Forward functions. What if I want to disable or change the behavior of those extra buttons? This is a totally generic mouse: instead of a manufacturer name it merely says, "Made in China". I did a cursory search on the Web for a generic driver for 4-button mice (for Windows Vista) and failed to find anything of use.

Obviously impossible as nothing is known about the brand name and model of the microscope. Also, one does need to be careful buying from online offerings, may not always get exactly as described and whether complete. The only suggestion is to contact the maker of the microscope to see if they ever updated their software to work on a new OS/Operating System.

I'm running W2K pro with service pack 4, and I recently snagged a dirt-cheap USB webcam off of sellout.woot. When I plug it in, Windows begins running its wizard—Found New Hardware - USB Web Camera—but then decides that it can't find a suitable driver via Windows Update.

There is no trademark anywhere on the camera housing. I even popped that open and took a peek inside; nothing that I could identify as a make or model number. I've found another seller with the same item for sale here, which lists it as plug and play. Sadly, I've not found this to be the case. Any ideas on how I can get this to work with my system, short of upgrading the OS?

My desktop computer has two soundcards, one for playback which is a CMedia CMI8738 5.1 soundcard for playback, and a Crystal Soundfusion CS4614A for recording purposes.

The Microsoft supplied generic driver for the CS4614 sound card worked great until I decided to find better drivers for the card. I went to Driverguide.com and downloaded a set of drivers that work on Windows XP (though they were designed for Windows 2000). The drivers work well, and they unlock features that the generic MS driver couldn't use such as hardware MIDI. There is one problem now....the recording feature is now severely imparied. With the generic MS driver, Audacity would list all the inputs of the recording mixer (Line-In, Microphone, etc), but with the drivers I installed, Audacity can no longer see the inputs, and only one option, "Wave" is listed. I preferred the old setup because you can have Audacity adjust the recording level without actually adjusting the volume of the source, and with the new drivers, I can no longer do this. Thus why I want to revert to the Windows XP supplied CS4614 driver that came on the WinXP CD-ROM, but I can't seem to install it. I also tried rolling back the driver to no avail.

Is there any way to revert to the Microsoft supplied driver for my Crystal SoundFusion card?

A:Reverting to a generic sound driver

Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In the Device Manager, under Sound Video and Game Controllers find your Driver, Right click it and choose to Update Driver. Choose to Install from a List. Choose Dont' Search. In the next window it should list the Microsoft Driver and the Updated driver that is highlighted. choose the Microsoft driver and click Next. It should roll back to the older driver.

Hello everyone,

I would like to request some of your help yet again...

It seems that a Transcend JetFlash 110 256Mb USB 2.0 is malfunctioning... on the previous day it was working just fine, but when I plugged it in the next day, it detected New Hardware, and it started installing a driver which logically isn't the one that my drive uses, since it's new driver name was "USBest USB2FlashStorage Device". It has detected the drive in My Computer, but when I open the drive given, it returns the message of "Please insert a disk into Drive."

Is there anyway to fix it...? Or, if it is not possible to keep on using it, is there any way to salvage the files stored in it?

Thanks for your help and time in advance.

So here is what happened---

I was a frequent user of the OS - Windows XP and my driver worked fine, I could play many low quality and few high quality games. But I tend to get infected when I was on XP. So I switched to a new OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7601) it automatically installed a the current driver I have as of now. When I try to play games on it, they will not work. When I try to play the Windows 7 Card game it lags terribly. I have done things such as the Windows Experience Index, Updating my driver via device manager, dxdiag, and several blogs and help sites. is it has the old ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 graphics in it, and there is not now and never will be a Windows 7 driver for it. About the best you're going to get for it is the last XP driver for it. You are also going to have to use whatever driver Panasonic has available for it as the reference ATI driver will not install on it.

If you're feeling adventurous you can try using this,

Mobility Modder - ATI Version, Install the Latest Drivers on your ATI laptop

on this version of ATI driver,

ATI Catalyst 9.3 WHQL Windows XP 32-bit download from Guru3D.com

and it might then install. Regardless of which you go for you will likely have to use compatibility mode,

Compatibility Mode

to get it to install.

Two days ago I update the BIOS of my PC. All ok, at startup Vista x64 Ultimate reinstalled USB components. After that, every USB Key or USB hard disk I connect doesn't work.
In Device Manager, there is a yellow triangle on "Generic Volume" and there is an info that tell me that file driver is absent or corrupted.
Does anyone know a solution?

Have you tryid different USB slots??, all so if you connected the front USB cables to the motherboard you might have plugged it in the wrong way and can damage your USB sticks.

Okay, first, this has been asked here before, and second, I'm being incredibly cheap, as you'll see here.

I have an Acer 320U scanner. Purchased in 2000. For (not making it up) $20 after rebate. So I've certainly gotten my money's worth out of it as I used it on Windows 98, 2000, and XP systems.

Today I tried to use it for the first time on my Windows 7 64-bit installation and got the "driver not found" message when I plugged it in.

Searching these forums and google, I found Vuescan and Sliverfast recommended for people in my predicament.

Downloaded and installed Vuescan, and it worked! Not as elegantly as the scanner had with XP, but I could scan.

But unless I purchase Vuescan, it leaves ugly watermarks on my scanned documents.

I know the "right" thing to do would be to go and buy a scanner for the first time in 11 years. But I use the scanner so rarely that it doesn't seem worth the effort.

Wondering if there is a source out there for free "generic" scanner drivers, for products like mine that are not supported for Windows 7.

Hello there, have you tried to add a device in "Printers and Devices"?

Connect your Scanner, go to Printers and Devices, click on Add Device, Windows will try to recognize your device, if Windows can't identify it, it'll give you a list for you to choose, i'm sure there should be Scanners there, try to find the one that match (Acer 320U or similar) and install the driver, it worked for me with an OLD ribbon printer (Citizen)

This laptop has Windows 7 Premium Installed.
I want to install a HD Audio Driver of my choice.

When I uninstall the Generic Windows 7 HD Audio Device Driver
The driver is automatically re-installed on restart.

Windows 7 Premium does not have GpEdit.msc installed.
An earlier version I came across (version 1.0 on the internet) has limited capability.

How do I prevent Windows Windows 7 from Automatically installing the driver?

Is there a registry entry I can edit to prevent installation of Generic Drivers or specific Generic Drivers i.e HD Audio Device Driver.

Thanks In Advance

A:How Do I Stop Generic Driver Installation

I would just install the driver of my choice. It will replace the generic driver.

I have several HDD's on which Windows XP Pro SP2 is installed. My system has a GENERIC DVD+RW 4XMax drive and an ATAPI CD-RW 52X24.
To my recollection, only maybe one of all of these HDD's will allow the generic ATAPI CD-RW 52X24 to read and write discs.

a device utility, DVD Info Pro http://www.dvdinfopro.com reports the device as such:
another utility, BenchmarX shows the device GUID as: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} -- same as my GENERIC DVD+RW 4XMax

any ideas for what i might do rather than throw it in the trash? when it does function, it seems to do a fine job of burning at high speed, and reading... so i'm guessing it must be a driver or OS configuration problem

hi folks, after tying a dozen driver download sites (or better to be called sitez) and a dozen virus warnings I'd like to ask the question here:
I know that there's a generic USB scanner driver,  costs 29 $ and does the job for nearly every scanner that is able to report to be an USB scanner with some basic capabilities.

Does such a thing exist for Webcams as well? I don't want to buy another one becuase the manufacturer decided to decline the product after 3 years :-(

Pls don't come up with "ey man look in the device manager". I already did - and for the Kodak EZ200 is no such a thing available. The cam was on the market at 2000-2001 so the best I could get was a modified Windows 2000 driver that also installs
on XP up to SP2, with SP3 the OS says "unsigned driver". The device ID'are this:
And don't tell me "download it her" or "download it there" because it ALWAYS comes up with something called mostly "driveridentifier.exe" or "registryscan.exe" but not with that the website claims to have. This has
spread like a pest in the internet and I know that nearly all USB capable web cams can do VGA or QVGA....

A:Windows 7 x64 - real generic cam driver for USB web cams

Your PID matches the Kodak ez200 and there is an XP driver here, BUT that wont work in win 7 unless you install it in compatibility mode.
To Run in compatibility mode do the following:

Right click the installer>properties>compatibility>choose OS
