Windows 7 Printer Spool Issue - PLEASE help.

Q: Windows 7 Printer Spool Issue - PLEASE help.

Well after spending about 20 hours of my life on researching this problem online and trying all kinds of "fixes" I am turing to this board for help.

I have a Gateway FX 6802 - 64 bit computer running Windows 7. Brand new - purchased 2 months ago. I also have an Epson 1280 printer which I have had for years. When I initially set the computer up, I just plugged in the printer via USB and it found the drivers and worked. No issues. Epson doesn't have drivers for the 1280 for Windows 7 anyway...but I had 2 months of no issues.

A few days ago, I noticed when I went to print something from my Microsoft Home and Student Word 2007 program, it wouldn't print. It said my print spooler was not on. I researched and went through the steps to get it back on, and to clear out ther files in my system32/spool/printer folder and then turned it back on via services.msc. Here is the strange part.

I can print any Word docs that I created previosuly within the past 2 months, or docs I created prior to getthing this computer. No problem. I can print photos. I can print PDF files. The only time I run into an issue is when I go into Word 2007 to create a new doc. It won't print. It shuts the spooler off. I'll have the print spooler window open and I will watch it - once I hit the print button in a NEW document - it changes status from started to stopped. Then, I have to clear out the printers folder in the system32/spool/printers which will contain 2 files usually named something such as FP00001.SHD and FP00001.SPL. (or variations of that)

I have restored a few times. I have scanned my computer with 3 different scanners for viruses and malware. I have unhooked and deleted my printer, emptied the files in the printers folder, restarted and then hooked the printer back up, I have checked the dependencies for the spooler, and they are all set to automatic and started...I don't know what else I can do but for this to just stop all of the sudden for new docs I am typing, but work for any and all older ones, is baffling to me. I did change the "style" of a Word Doc I was typing the other day to Word 2003 so it wasn't all double spaced - which seems like it was around the time of all of this, but I am not sure. I believe since I have restored so many times that shouldn't be an issue.

Any help as to what to try next would be so much appreciated. Sorry for being so long winded, just wanted to include as many details as I can.

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 Printer Spool Issue - PLEASE help.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

That is a nasty problem.

If you have your Office installation disk, try repairing or reinstalling MS Word. It might have just been a bad install.

I have been using this computer and printer for over a year, but now windows does not recognize the printer. I cannot install new drivers or uninstall old ones or add a new printer because the "printer spool service is stopped." I have gone thru the control panel to the list of services and started and restarted this service several times (setting is on automatic). It shows as started or running, but if I try to add a printer or install the printer drivers from the installation cd it won't let me because the printer spool service is stopped. I tried system restore with no luck. Although plug and play shows as started, it does not recognize the printer if I pull and reinstall the ISB connector. It is as if I get the service started and it shuts itself off. I am using windows xp home.
Incidental intelligence-For some reason about a week ago I could not sign into windows, instead a dialog box came up that said I had to verify windows (as if it was new). I entered the product key which was not recognized and actually had to call Microsoft and get a code from them before I could open windows (except in safe mode). I can't help but think this is at the root of my problem and that there is some unstability in windows. I don't want to have to reinstall windows. Can anyone help with this vexing problem?

I generated the EMF spool file on a windows 10 and printing this generated EMF spool file on windows 7, but it get some messy characters for some printing result.

Analysis shows the root cause is because of missing the font MS YaHei UI on windows 7,  but used in the EMF spool file, which is generated on windows 10 and windows 10 contains this type of font.

what should I do to avoid this problem?

just copy the missing font from windows 10 to windows 7 and install it?, but I found the MS YaHei UI is about 30MB,   I just use a very small part of characters in this font. Is there any method to get a subset of this font?

I got a new printer and when I tried to install i recieved an error message about the printer spool not being turned on. I went through the steps to locate printer spool...my computer-manage-services and applications- but when i try to turn on printer spool i get an error message. I have gone to Microsoft to try to run a fix but that did not work either. I have read through other postings that tell you how to turn it on, but nothing that said what to do if it won't start.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530S with Windows Vista Home Premium, 64-Bit, running windows service pack 2.

My computer is shared by a handful of people and one day while I was using the computers and trying to print, the icon for our printer (Brother HL-2140) just disappeared as if it were uninstalled and there was no printer connected to the computer.

The first thing I did was restart the computer and printer and reinstall the printer. So I plugged the printer into the computer and it didn't recognize that there was anything attached so I tried "Add Printer" and got this error message:

So when I looked this up online, every place I could find said this was a problem with the print spooler. So I opened up services under Admin and started the print spooler and made sure that it was set to automatic, which it already was. So I went back to try to "Add Printer" again and got an error message, but this time a different one, as well as the spooler stopping itself again.

So the next thing I learned was that it was probably a problem with the driver for the printer. There is no print manager that I can find to uninstall the old driver, so I went to the brother website and downloaded the newest driver for windows vista 64 bit. Put the file in its own folder, extracted it and continued to install it, only to get this error halfway through the installation:

So I click "OK" and the installation seems to finish in total. If I go to try to instal... Read more

A:printer spool turns off

Hello Dave, welcome to SF!

Try performing a diagnostic startup; go to msconfig (search for it in the start menu), and you'll see the option. You'll have to manually start the print spooler service once, and hopefully it will stay on. Try printing something to confirm.

If that doesn't work, we are looking at some Windows corruption, and we will treat it as such.

Hi Guys, Nice to meet you all am a newbie at this and have messed up my computer am kinda freaked out and need help. I had this nasty Delsim dialer on my computer and used PervX to remove it. That went well and the nasty little malware was gone. Only problem is it attached to a file called WinDv.exe. Did some research--maybe not enough and found out that WinDv.exe was not too important so I had PervX remove it. Problem is...now when I try to print the print spooler does not work. I May Have Posted IN Wrong Forum I am On Windows 2000 not XP apologize for this!

I also get an error "missing windv.exe" error when computer boots, not that i mind but it may be interfering with the printer? that is my question...

Went into services to start the print spooler, even did a manual from Run it but it would always start but as soon as I go back to add a printer then it stops again. Someone said to disable the fax so disabled that. Now the printer stays on start but still get the error message "printer operation cannot continue due to lack of resources"

Tried it now and it will not stay on start after I try to add a printer it will stop again!

I am on 2000 Professional. Thank you!

A:Oh No Printer Spool Won't Print Docs

Hi peacerosetx. windv.exe is not associated with the spooler. The malware probably broke your spooler, or maybe even PervX.http://windv.mourek.cz/First try to reinstall the printer driver. If that doesn't work try to do a System Restore to a date before your PC became infected. However, System Restore is notorious for not working when you need it most. If you have an XP Installation disc then you can try System File Checker (SFC). Start > Run > sfc /scannowSFC will ask you to insert your XP Installation disc into the optical drive. Do so and SFC will run for half an hour or so. Hopefully it will repair the spooler files. If SFC doesn't fix the problem do a Repair Install.XP Repair Install instructionsIf you don't have an XP Installation disc you may have to back up your important files and perform an XP Restore.

Okay...Here is the story....please, please help and I will give you my first born (oh wait...she is a cryer). Only Kidding.
Anyway I have windows XP with SP2 installed. One day my printer was gone! I clicked "add a printer" and got "Operation could not be completed. The print Spooler is not running". If I try to install from my disk I get "HP System check has determined that your system does not match the requirements specified on the box. The following items do not meet the minimum requirement - Your operating system does not match the supported systems or service packs" If I go to the Printer Wizard and install it says "Problem installing the RPC Server is unavailable".
Okay, so far I went in Admin. Services and turned the spooler on (which was off) but as soon as I click "Add a Printer" it shuts off. I checked all dependant things and made sure they were on and they are. My printer is an HP PSC 50i. If I look the Scanner and Fax are there but not the printer. All the drivers are listed but only the drivers for the scanner and fax are in the index.
If someone can help me out I swear I will yell uncle on top of my house in a chicken suit. Thanks!!!

Did you try uninstalling the printer, Did you go into control panel, system, device manager and look to see if you have the yellow exclamation mark next to the printer! Disconnect the printer from the computer, remove all the installed software for the printer. If you have a good registry cleaner, clean your registry up!
After doing all the above, shut down the system. Reconnect the printer, make sure its turned on, then power up your system, see if new hardware found message comes up. If it does, follow directions on the screen!

Hi all,

I'll make it short as possible. I have a canon mp280 printer, installed and worked well for couple of months without any problems. We had a lightning cut off and suddenly my printer didin't want to work anymore. (it is related, I don't know)

I find out that my print spool don't work now in my computer. I have read all your other thread in this forum about it. I've done a lot and try a lot either and it still don't work.

This thread was the only one really close to my problem.

So I then looked online, found reg fixes that might be the problem, checked them and nothing.
I have ran two different virus software and registry fix software on his computer and still nothing works, keeps closing!
Any Ideas?

Hello everyone

We have an HP LaserJet M1536dnf that is have a strange problem. When printing there is a 20 second lag after you hit the print button. No matter what program it is Word/Excel/Adobe/IE it happens in all of them. After the 20 seconds the print job goes through, I've noticed it happening before when the printer was hooked up with the USB cable too.

A:Network printer taking long to spool job

Also, I assume this is not just for the first print but for any back to back jobs that require the printer to warm up? Or do you mean that the computer hangs on the print dialog window for 20 seconds?

Which version of Windows? HP has several drivers available for that model, Universal PS and PCL, as well as machine specific drivers, which ones are you using and have you tried any of the other drivers?

HP also has firmware updates available for that model.

I have a USB Lexmark X73 Printer/Scanner/Copier. I use WinXP. It has been working just fine, but today when I tried to print something from Word, it said that there were no printers configured. Sure enough, every application just showed that there were no printers.

I am sure that the connection is fine, because when I connect and turn on the printer, the Lexmark tray icon changes, but I am not able to print nor edit printing properties.

Under Control Panel/Printers, there was nothing. Under the start menu Control Panel/Printers, there was only an Add Printer icon, but when I click on it, an error message pops up saying "Operation could not be completed."

I tried to reinstall the driver, but towards the end, a message pops up saying that the printer can not function with out the Spool service running, and that I need to start the Spool service. Checking the task manager, sure enough, there wasn't a Spool task. I tried to run spool.exe and winspool.exe, but nothing happened.

I have had an error for the last two weeks in my printer window. Two weeks ago I could print fine, no issues. I have a linksys wireless print server conected to a HP 3015 all in one printer.

My XP computer can still print to the printer with no issue.

HP online diagnostic says it can talk to the printer, no issues, but it does say driver is not up to date.

Linksys confiure tool says all systems go with regards to print server.

Neither "test page" from linksys or HP "properties" would print.

All the print files go to the printer and they sit there and say "printer spooling". then an error - printer busy, is displayed.

I have upgraded to the latest driver x64 "universal print driver" as recommeded by HP. But the install keeps giving me a "invalid argument" error.

I am running Windows 10 X64 Version 1607 with all current updates applied on a HP laptop (do not have model number handy).
I recently had to print out several PDF files and after printing the first one with no problem the second PDF file I needed to print would not print. I looked in the print queue and saw the first PDF file was still in the queue with the status of printing. It had finished printing. I tried to cancel it with no success. I then did what used to work, I rebooted my laptop. After the reboot the first PDF file I had just printed, printed again and the second one would not print. When I looked in the print queue after the reboot I saw the same thing, The file that had just printed was still there with a status of printing and the second one was waiting to print.
I then did the following:
1: In Windows services I stopped the print spooler
2: In Windows Explorer I went to %windir%\System32\spool\PRINTERS and deleted all the files that were there
3: I then restarted the print spooler.
I was then able to print the second PDF file. I had to do these three steps every time I needed to print more than one file.
This seems to be a problem when printing from Microsoft EDGE as I have since downloaded Adobe Reader and have no problems printing more then one document from that app.
Thank you in advance for any and all help.

Hi, all,

This is my first post on this forum and I'd need a help regarding shared printer. I've already posted this question to another forum, but unfortunately it didn't generate any meaningful replies.

I'm having a problem with shared printer configuration on the remote computers at my work, where I work as computer technician trainee. The core of the problem is a little old computer running on Win98, with printer attached via LPT1. Both computer and printer can be seen from every workstation in a work-group. Since this is an old computer which could use more RAM, I'd like to configure remote computers that print through it to perform spooling jobs on their own hard-disk, rather than sending document over the network to the local computer and letting it spool all the files.

The computer with printer runs on Win98 and when configuring other computers on Win98 to spool locally, I usually trick them during the installation of printer. I install it as local printer on LPT1, and then later simply change the gateway to a network computer (the one in question). This in fact works and forces remote computer to spool documents on their own local disks, thus leaving the resources of remote computer intact

The problem arises when I'm trying to do the same with remote computers running on WinXP. The same trick doesn't work here (OS doesn't even allow the procedure of changing print gateway) and no matter what I try the sending computer stil... Read more

A:Computer won't spool on local harddisk when using shared printer!

I'm sure you probably won't like my answer.

You've been screwing around with this for a month, and $50 worth of RAM would have solved the whole problem???

If the shared printer is really that important, solve the problem correctly! I'm astonished that a business would waste probably thousands of dollars in man hours solving a problem that doesn't deserve a tenth of that expenditure! Hell, a new computer would cost you less than $500-600, have you checked the prices lately?

Please show this message to your boss, if he can't figure out the economics of solving the problem correctly, he's pretty lame!

I've seen many accounts where the same mentality seems to exist, they'll spend tons of productivity to solve a trivial problem that should be solved by upgrading/buying new equipment!

Powerpoint and OneNote opened normally, but World and Excel just keep "starting" forever, like in this screen: I tried unstalling and reinstalling, but both process were always not completed (getting stuck in some step of the process), as said before. It was a really nightmare actually. After 2 days of hard searching, I got lucky and managed to find out that if I stop the process Print Spooler on Services, Word (and Excel) instantly opens, but I couldn't use printers obviously. Now I could successfully unstall and reinstall Office, but doing this still did not fix the issue.I've already tried reinstalling Print Spooler using third-app and erased all the default printers that came along with my PC, but it still interferes with Word and Excel (but Powerpoint and Onenote works normally)I haven't the oportunity yet of trying to print anything random (like a PDF file or something), because I'm not having acess to printers this moment. Any suggetions? [edit] Just other info: if I run Word/Excel with Printer Spooler disabled, and then starts it, Word/Excel start to not respond anymore

Has anyone come across an issue where any printer directly connected to the system suddenly stops working and shuts the print spool down? I go to restart the spool, print the test page and BAM! print spool has been stopped.

At first thought it was a possible infection but I can't find one. Performed a sys restore and it worked only to have a windows critical update start it all over again.....

Stuck on not having a solution....

Any ideas?

I have looked at many webpages and still unable to solve
this issue. Maybe someone here can help. My printer broke down but I kept the windows printer spool file (.spl) and need to view the data from it since this is all I have from the document. The spool (.spl) file has a EMF header and was created from pcl6.
I wish to view that file but all I get is garbled text if I open it with wordpad etc. Is there any program or way that I can view it because the data(only text not photos) is in that spool file(3 Megs in size) but the printer broke down and I have no way of viewing it.

I tried Ghost script and other PCL viewers with out much luck since my file is a .spl

Please help..

Thank you in advance,

this maybe a post that would get a good response if moved to the Hardware forum later on if need be.

I think the following program data is what is needed.

This is the error message I get when I boot up my laptop.

windows\system 32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\lxcrtime.dll

I researched the message and can't find a real solution for this problem. One suggstion was the Lexmark toolbar which can not be deleted.

I'm not a wizard, but can follow instructions and figure some things out. But not this....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't seem to find anything about my specific problem. I had an HP PSC 2410 all-in-one series printer connected to a Dlink print server. The printer started making terrible noises when it started up, so I disconnected it and reconnected an old deskjet instead. I recently fixed the all-in-one (turned out i just needed to clean the scanning glass and mirrors), but the print server no longer powers up. Now here's the real issue:

I can't get the printer to install locally via USB port. I was finally able to delete the network printer (it kept coming back after reboot, offline), but I can' get Windows to auto-detect and install the drivers. I can't even download the drivers from the HP website because they aren't available (windows update only). I can't manually add the printer either, because the virtual USB port is unavailable. I'd really like to get this printer running again, especially because I brought it back from the dead and I really need to scanner. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The printer is an old HP LaserJet P2015 connected to a Windows 7 Pro (32-bit) machine.  Every morning, when the user boots the computer up and logs in, that printer will show as an unknown device under Devices and Printers.  The actual printer
icon for the P2015 will be grayed out.  If you just turn the printer off and back on the unknown device goes away, and the P2015 icon will go back to ready.  I have tried multiple USB cable and ports on the computer and a powered USB hub.  I've
tried multiple drivers, and the only one that really wants to work is the actual HP driver for the P2015 (which took a while to find).  The HP universal print drivers all have their own quirks with it.  I've adjusted power setting for maximum efficiency,
ran sfc /scannow, ran chkdsk /r, and some other things that I cannot remember.  Is there anything I can try that I didn't list?

Ok I have an HP deskjet 3520 that is hooked into my FreeBSD server. The FreeBSD is all good and not one problem there. Now the problem is trying to get it to use on XP sp2 boxes. I can not see it in network places and I have tried to add it via local port method that has worked before but it says my local port is access denied. How do I turn it on?

We have a W7 printer issue as follows: My wife and I both have W7 Home Premium, 64bit, machines networked together. She has an HP PhotoSmart 7600 printer. I can see it and print to it from my network connection. I can print plain paper or photo paper from my machine. My wife however can only print plain paper from her machine. She cannot print pictures. We went through the driver replacement/refresh recommended by HP and rebooted the machine. It immediately recognized the printer as an HP PhotoSmart 7660.

I can print fine from my machine over the network but she still cannot print pictures. Anybody have any ideas?
