Q: My 100s Chromebook touchpad freezes every few minutes

I have a Lenovo 100s Chromebook, and on my main user account the touchpad stops working and the mouse dissappears every few minutes. I have to do a force shutdown whenever this happens, and I tried a powerwash on my computer to delete all local files, but it still happened twice more after just a few minutes when I reopened my main google user account. I'm currently using the Guest Account and I have yet to encounter the problem. This problem appeared just a few days ago and has become more and more frequent, now reaching the point where I have to force shutdown and restart so often that I cannot work in my classes. I don't want to have to replace the computer, and I can't figure out a software or hardware solution to this issue. Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

Touchpad on my Ideapad 100s keeps shutting off.  It will work when the computer turns on but then after a while, it stops working.  Pressing F6 works sometimes but not all of the time. It looks like the driver that is loaded is from January 2016, but when I tried to upgrade to the newer driver, it seemed to not be working and was causing both the touchpad and keyboard to stop working.  Got it working again by deleting the driver.  My wife uses this computer for school and it's not convenient to plug in an external mouse.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just got an IdeaPad 100S 11IBY and the touchpad won't let me scroll down in web pages or documents. If I drag two fingers down or up to scroll like I can on other laptops, nothing happens. Is there a way to turn scrolling on or does the laptop not support it?

there is no setting to enable. as of right now, there is no way to get 2 finger scroll. I've been checking frequently to see if there are updated drivers for the trackpad but it's not even certain that this touchpad supports multitouch anyway. It's very disappointing that a new laptop does not have this basic feature, too difficult to use unless you have a mouse. Unfortunately I cannot  return mine so I'm stuck fiddling with scroll bars and arrow keys.

My lenovo 100S-11IBY had some problems with loading website graphic so i call to techsupport , one gentelmen said that i dont have win10 updates and i need to refresh sys. so i did it and after that my keyboard and touchopad not working. i did recovery sys 2 times with and without saving my files nothing helps. i check if outside mous and keyboard working and they are working. Even though it doesn't have two -finger scrolling, the 11by Lenovo has page up / page down controls and the up / down arrow keys on the lower right of the keyboard which will scroll the page if you are not inside a typing box. If inside a typing box the up /down arrows scroll within the text. Move the cursor outside the box then click to get the extra features on those keys

Hello My Ideapad 100S has in the last couple of days developed a curious problem. If I try to drag something using the touchpad, after holding down the left button, when I move my finger across the pad the machine behaves as if its receiving multiple double-taps rather than mouse-moves. So, for instance, if you do this on a map it does lots of zoom-ins. Any ideas, anyone?

Hi, I really hope somebody can help because this is driving me nuts. I've been all over Google and Bing and I can only find solutions for issues that are the exact opposite of the problem I am having. Whenever I disconnect from a power supply, the touchpad and USB mouse stop working. I can get them to work again by 'clicking' but a few seconds later - gone. By plugging the supply back in, it's like the issue never happened... Hello,after last Windows update my touchpad gets disabled when laptop is on battery, when it's plugged in and charging everything works well. I can enable touchpad with shortcut on F6 key, but after few seconds of not using the touchpad, it disables by itself. I also noticed that I can enable touchpad by clicking the physical left or right click below it, but not by tapping the touchpad. Also, I think it has something to do with Power Management, but when I go to Manage->Device Manager->Mice and pointing devices->HID-compliant mouse and go to Properties, I don't have the Power Management tab there. Drivers are up to date, and there are no mouse drivers on Lenovo support page. I ran out off ideas, any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have two HP ChromeBooks here, purchased in late '14, and recently both have had issues with their Trackpads, number one's Trackpad doesn't want to work at all, can only use the ChromeBook with a mouse connected. Just got my new Acer Chromebook R11 today, and I've noticed that the touchpad only works when its in tablet mode, which is super counterproductive since I would only need to use it in laptop mode, which I can't. I have weird issues after the last fall creators update of Windows 10 on my relatively new ideapad 100s 11iby.On battery mode mouse and touchpad stop working after 2 unused seconds. To reactivate I only need to hit a key on the keyboard or a mouse/touchpad button. Hello all, I'll try to explain this the best I can... please ask questions if something isn't clear or if you need more info. This problem is driving me batty, and I have no idea how to "cure" it. I've tried everything I can think of.

I'm running Win7/SP1/64, I have 4gb RAM, using an i5 processor. My laptop is an HP Pavilion DV6-3150US. All AV/malware databases are up-to-date (Symantec Endpoint Protection/Malwarebytes) and I scan daily - the system is clean.

Every time I boot the computer, within 10 minutes of boot, Windows will suddenly become non-responsive. This non-responsiveness runs for 1-2 minutes, then everything works great. It doesn't happen again so long as the computer doesn't go into Sleep or is rebooted, and then it happens all over again. That leads me to believe there is something loading up with Windows that is the culprit.

I've flashed the BIOS, am using the latest and greatest version of it (SP50942). I'm up to date on Windows updates. As far as I can tell (using SlimDrivers), all my drivers are up-to-date. I've also allowed HP Advisor to scan weekly and it makes no recommendations that something is out of date.

Using msconfig.exe, it shows the following as allowed startup items:

IDT PC Audio - sstray64.exe
HP Quick Launch - HPMSGSVC.exe

A:Windows freezes up for 1-2 minutes a few minutes after startup

Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming process, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.

Hello,

#1 For some reason my touchpad on my HP 15 (2015 model with 8.1, now upgraded to Windows 10 1511) freezes. I hate that when it happens, you cant use it for 20 or 30 seconds or so. I close my lid and open it back up and it works normal, but then after a little bit it starts doing it again. My driver is up to date, I think it maybe Synaptics? If I need to give more info, please say!

#2: When I scroll on my touchpad up words it opens the start menu every so often when I am scrolling a lot, but when I didn't even open or even get near it or press Windows key. What is causing this? I hate it when it does this and screws up my readings then it stops scrolling and focuses more on the start menu then I have to click out of the menu and go back to what ever I was doing.

I have an HP Chromebook 14 which until recently had been my pride and joy. However, for the past week or so, every time i switch it on, it lasts about 30 seconds before it freezes, the tracker pad becomes unresponsive, and I'm forced to switch it off via the power button.CTRL + ALT still work, and the keyboard seems to work I think, but it's preventing me from using it because the mouse isn't acting as you'd expect. My touchscreen stopped working soon after I bought the R11 chomebook from Acer direct. It has 4Gb of processing and 32Gb of storage. I had to reboot to get the screen to work again. Since then, I have had freezes quite often and the Chromebook has to be restarted. It looks like a hard drive problem. Any ideas?

Hi to everybody. I have read tons of forums about this issue and I tried to do what advised, but I couldn't solve this issu with my PC.
I upgraded my system 1 month ago, but I didn't achieve a stable configuration. New componets are MB, CPU, RAM and SSHD. I have suspects on PSU even nominal power should be ok.

Immediately after the boot, the graphic card fan starts increasing speed and then the system freezes. If I disable and re-enable the graphic card, fan stops overunning immediately and run normally; the system freezes later, randomly.
After 3-4 hard resets, the system asks me to restore the system. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

After downgrading the graphic drivers, the system appeared stable for some days. But now it started again freezing in a different way: rather than increasing the card's fan speed, the graphic card starts flickering. It stops if I disable and re-enable the graphic card, but it starts again after few minutes and the system freezes.

Freezing mechanism: explorer stops responding, but the mouse pointer is still working. After 20-30 seconds mouse freezes as well. It happens randomly in idle state, using google chrome or ... Read more

A:Windows 7 64 bit freezes after few minutes. Explorer hangs and then freezes.

Unless the new hardware you fitted is almost identical to the old, which I doubt, you should do a clean install of Windows. The main reason is the drivers from the old stuff are still around and are messing things up.

Hello and thank you in advance for any help you might be able to give me. I am reasonably competent computer user and should be able to understand what you need me to do. I am experiencing this problem in all browsers, Firefox, IE and Chrome. The problem started happening in the last few days, about the same time my son came to stay with me for the week, Hmmm.After surfing for 5-10 minutes the browser will cease to load pages and then computer will stop responding. Functionality to many computer programs will cease to work, shut down and restart do not respond and a hard reboot is necessary. DSL is still available to online game if it was already running though. I am sure my son or I went somewhere stupid and caught something but I don't know what. AVG and zone alarm were running on the computer. I have run ad aware, spybot, , Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and Hijackthis. Doubleclick was found. I literally opened the box of my brand new custom HP Envy 17t laptop, went to 2 websites, walked away to find my flash drive, and came back to a touchpad that stopped working. I chatted with someone online who just sent me to a "resolutions" 800 number, and I have been on hold 1 hour 30 minutes. I watched the online video about hard resetting the computer when the touchpad stops working, but surely I wouldn't need to do this with a brand new laptop?!? (all the people with this issue in the support forum had the issue more than four years ago, and I am reluctant to try the hard reset since prior support requests on this issue are so old.)

I have switched to my iPhone now that I have uploaded the logs.

When I boot up my machine, within 3-4 minutes it locks up and I am unable to use it again.
I have to reboot and start all over again. It happen if I am running in safe mode also.

Any assistance anyone could provide would be appreciated.

My work PC freezes after about 15 minutes from starting. I can't do anything at that point and I need to restart it by pressing power button. After second start it runs normally for the rest of the day. Next day when I switch it on it happens again and it's been like that for the last week. It froze on IE, Firefox and Outlook. I checked event viewer but don't really know what to look for as only errors that I've found were that of unexpected machine restart. I've checked installed programs and there's nothing there recently. Any ideas?

it still happens. yesterday it worked for an hour and then it froze but today was about 10 minutes.

Hi,

After coming home and being told by my wife that "the PC is not working", I took a look - it was consistently freezing after only a few minutes. So, I logged on in Safe Mode and consecutively ran my various counter virus software (MS Essentials, Malaware Bytes and Spybot), which removed/fixed various issues they detected. This didn't seem to help.

So I Restored to my earliest log. I then ran Windows on Normal Mode and it seems to work OK, but I still sense there may still be viral infection.

I then downloaded "Hijackthis" and ran it, without fixing/deleting any files . I have attached the log - I would be very grateful indeed if you could take a look and let me know if you spot any anomalies?

How many antivirus/antimalware programs do you have installed? Select 1 antivirus program (MSE) and ditch all those tool bars
