Robocopy fails as scheduled task in Windows 7 with error code 0x10

Q: Robocopy fails as scheduled task in Windows 7 with error code 0x10

I'm trying to migrate a robocopy based backup from XP (where it does work) to Windows 7. The backup job simply copies a directory on the local PC to a network drive on the file server using a batch file which contains the following:
robocopy "C:\projects" "N:\backup" /e /s /r:1 /w:1 /log+:backuplog.txt
The user account it is running under has full access to the network drive (N:). When I run the batch file directly from the command line it works perfectly. It also used to work without issue on a Windows XP machine. UAC is disabled.
Whenever the task runs it fails with the error code 0x10.

Preferred Solution: Robocopy fails as scheduled task in Windows 7 with error code 0x10

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would reciommend using UNC paths (\\server\share\folder\) instead of mapped drives and specifying full paths in quotes whenever possible (not backuplog.txt, but "c:\logs\backuplog.txt"MCP/MCSA/MCTS/MCITP

I have set up some RoboCopy tasks that run fine when run from the desktop link, but being forgetful I thought I would try to run them automatically using Task Scheduler. I followed the instructions in the tutorial and all appeared to be fine. However the tasks did not run so I checked them in Task Scheduler and last run stated 'Never'. I then chose to 'Run' them Task Scheduler and got the following dos report:

2014/01/03 10:25:38 ERROR 5 (0x00000005) Opening Log File C:\Windows\system32\my

I think the basic problem is you are trying to save the logfile to a Windows protected folder.

My suggestions is to use your robocopy bat file from your desktop....not C:\Windows\system32\

Try that and let us know what happens.

BTW : you run robocopy /? from an elevated command prompt as explained in the tutorial - not from Windows search.

I have some processes that I need to stop and restart each morning. In order to do this, I've created 2 scheduled tasks inside Task Scheduler:

1.) Stop Foobar (Both Environments) - Triggers @ 6:45 AM Every Day
2.) Start Foobar (Both Environments) - Triggers @ 6:48 AM Every Day

Both tasks above make use of a respective *.BAT file to shut down and restart a task agent service. Unfortunately, the tasks have been bombing with "(0x5)" each morning. I'm not sure why, but I suspect it has something to do with the following code associated with each *.BAT file:

stop.bat -

sc stop Foobar_f52d190a-0e84-4b3a-ab03-xsfc6450b845
timeout 10
sc stop Foobar_935feeac-b874-4cca-b8eb-xsf55881ffb2
start.bat -

sc start Foobar_f52d190a-0e84-4b3a-ab03-xsfc6450b845
timeout 10
sc start Foobar_935feeac-b874-4cca-b8eb-xsf55881ffb2
From what I understand of 0x5 codes, it's a "universal access denied" indicator. Is this true? If so, that would imply then that the service account responsible for executing the batch files isn't being permitted execution rights, right? Odd, because I've provided my username / password for the tasks to execute whether the user is logged on or not. From what I can see, it's storing the password, too... So what gives?

Any insight is appreciated. And I added the "timeout 10" in order to give the tasks some buffer between each task. Maybe it needs more? I dunno...

A:Scheduled Task / Batch Code on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Turns out that the code works... The reason that I kept receiving the 0x5 result is due to the Scheduled Tasks not being executed with "highest privileges". Once this was set, everything ran like a charm.

I have a W7HP SP1 x64 Dell Inspiron 15Z Ultrabook model 5523, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, that is blue-screening so much I can't accomplish any type of troubleshooting anymore. I did manage to get some info from WhoCrashed: it said every crash was caused by iastorA.sys. Happens in safe mode as well. The error code is 0x10~7e or 0x0~7e

Sorry, I can't do the dm log collector - can't keep the computer on long enough to open the browser.

Right now, I have it booted to a live linux distro and am in the process of copying all User files over to an external HDD.

I ran the diagnostics available pre-boot, and everything checked out fine (hardware).

I am wondering if this iastorA.sys is corrupt, or not necessary? Is there a way to boot to safe mode with C prompt and just delete it or something?

A:Constant BSOD from iastorA.sys 0x10~7e or 0x10~7e

If WhoCrashed is correct, that driver is the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver, that does fit the 7e bugcheck you mention. (Storage/HDD/Etc.)

You could try updating it first,

Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver Driver Details | Dell US

If you're in there with a live CD grab the dump files from C:\Windows\(Minidump or MEMORY Dump) folder and post them.

I have been trying to get a windows application that I have developed to run as a scheduled task. I am running Win XP Pro SP2.

This works perfectly when the computer is up and running but it is intended to work at night when the computer is on standby. I have checked the " Wake the computer to run this task" box.

If I schedule the task to being while it is on standby I find that it will only actually start when I log back in again in the morning.

If I test using a console application then it will indeed work while in standby.

What I have as the task is a one line .bat file contaning the program path and name followed by some command line arguments which enable the automatic running then termination of the windows application (as opposed to nomal interactive windows actions). Could it be something to do with this aspect that it requires the computer to out of standby mode to begin ?

I would be grateful for any advice to find a solution to this. I will be pleased to supply any furthe information if needed.

Many thanks

I have seen the message "could not check for updates automatically"

Today I have run SURT as instructed and the output from sfc /scannow is attached.

I have read a lot of other forums about scheduled tasks running twice, unfortunately the hot fix does not fix the issue.

I checked in C:\windows\system32\tasks, the solution is not here.
I also checked in the registry, was not able to find the duplicate task, I was able to find the task in /windows NT
This happens in a very specific scenario.  We have to update the time triggers for a specific scheduled task based off when a store closes.  They close later on the weekends so the 1st task "autoupdate" will look at an xml file to determine
if the store close time has changed.  Since the store close time changes, it then recreates the "store close" scheduled task with the new time triggers found in the xml.  Autoupdate does this by looking at a .config file we wrote.

Unfortunately this config file had an issue with the path to the store close task not being case sensitive.  When the Autoupdate task kicks off, if replaces the store close task with the correct time triggers, but now the store close task runs twice
at each time trigger
We have a task folder \Hello World
The config file paths out to the task as \Hello world (notice the lowercase w).
This causes the time triggers to kick off 2 task, 1 for (\Hello World\Store close) and another for (\Hello
world\Store close)

I got this to trigger 3 times by changing the .config file to path out to \hello
world.  Now every time the time trigger... Read more

All Windows automatic updates have been failing since 2015-11-12. The last successful update was the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - November 2015 (KB890830) on 11/12/2015 03:17. The first failed update since then was Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3100213) on 11/13/2015 20:25.

Manual installation of the pending updates does not work. Reboot does not install the pending updates either. Another symptom was that Windows was no longer detecting my third party Anti-Virus software. I removed and reinstalled the software thinking it might be related and Windows started detecting the Anti-Virus software again but I can no longer access the computers from other computers on my home network. For now let's focus on the Windows problem which may be hardware failure induced--hardware crash/power cycle without a Shutdown.

My Windows Updates fails Error Code :WindowsUpdate_80070652

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.71.471.0)

Any thoughts ??

A:Windows Updates fails Error Code :WindowsUpdate_8007065

Hi shyamsasinran,

This is interesting, for normal updates this code suggests that another install is in progress (I not sure if Windows Defender is the same). This error can also occur if a dll is loaded that it needs to access, or if the downloaded file is corrupt.
Some thoughts
- If the update is already downloaded, try to install it in safe mode.
- Try to download the latest WD definitions and install manually, get them from the Microsoft Malware Protection Center

Ok, I've been researching solutions for issues with windows 7 backup for weeks now and have had no luck. My VSS service is running fine, and everything was backing up fine til a short while ago, and has been failing since. I have been backing up to a network share on my file server. My roommate has been having the same issue for some time now, however he was attempting to do this with an external hard drive. Same error of 0x8100019. I've tried everything I can think of and I've had no leads thus far. Any pointers on this would be helpful.

A:Windows 7 Backup fails, error code 0x8100019

Same problem, it actually backed up the first time I used the program that is on WIN7. Now it gives me the blue screen. I have deleted the file it makes and start over, same thing happens. I have tried to change the drive from basic to dynamic it won't allow me, reason is I have a laptop. But I am more confused since it worked the FIRST time and now it's not allowing me to finish! It's actually frustrating cause I have already lost everything on my hard drive before and really don't want it to happen again. I wish I had the answer but I'm still searching.

Hey guys!

So I will start by saying I am pretty tech savvy, so don't try to dumb it down for me. If I have a question, I will ask!

So, we got a computer into our class (I'm a student at a High School). It is a personal favour. It started with Dell telling me it couldn't locate it's BCD FIles. I did some tracking, and couldn't find the files needed, and they don't have any discs or USB's provided by the OEM. Great. That's a problem.

My second thought was to grab Hiren's BootCD v15.2 to grab anything important off of the drive (It has Linux and MiniXP. Both options failed. Kind of starting to irritate me at this point. I asked the person if anything important was on there, the answer was no, so I went with a full reinstall.

Now, I do have a Dell DIsc, which is authorized for any Dell Computer to install Windows 8. But of a brick wall, but no R/W Disc. Transferred things into an ISO for a USB stick using Rufus. Boot into it, fails. Now I'm really mad. At this point I went into the CMD from "Repair" option in the stick. I cleaned the drive of ALL info, drive letters, everything. I created a new volume to store info, assigned a Drive letter ( C:\ ). The new drive is a RAW data storage type, "converted", got an error, checked and it said it was NTFS. Great, reboot, retry an Install -- fails.

I'm quickly running out of options now. I'm lost to what to do, the issue simulates what happened to my personal machine a number of years ago, but that was ... Read more

Hello experts,

I did run virus checker, spy checker, several registry cleaners.
I spent a week on it , as well Microsoft support logged in for an hour.
I did run the batch file re-registering DLL's.
The original error 80070424 is gone since I run the "ErrorFix" utility.

My recovery CD form the manufacturer is only to wipe out all what I have installed and reload the "vanilla" system. Windows repair option is not available.
This is for me out of question, to many programs are installed on my system.

Here is the problem I think:
Windows installer is missing,
Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable installation fails. error code 1603

2. Upgrading to Windows Vista Ultimate version will fix the missing files ?

Any other suggestions?

Machine is x64 (intel core i7), with 8gb mem
tried installing sp1 via windows update. there were three patches to install, one of them, sp1
did the two first, before, and then tried sp1.
It failed while rebooting (not remember the code, sorry), but i was able to do a system restore to pre-sp1.
them, got the full SP1 media from msdn, and did install it in offilne mode. Setup looked faster (of course?) and in reboot, this fatal error c0000034 appeared. But this time, no option for system restore.
if i try to enter in safe mode, i get stuck on driver loading (last loaded is classpnp.sys)
if i try to run, as seen in other threads, the sfc tool, i get a "there is a system repair pending which requires a boot to complete..." Of course, reboot just gets me to the 34 error.
As i cannot get to Windows, no InPlace setup is available...
So, i read about DISM could be used as a before-last resourt... How? I'm not sure what this error is, so i'm a bit lost about getting something out of DISM to correct it.
Any help?

Thank you for posting and wanting to help other users, but unfortunately, I had to delete your post. We have found that the steps in this post while allowing you to recover from the non-bootable state, leaves the machine in an unserviceable state, with SP1
partially installed.  There is not a known way to recover a machine from this state at this time, so we recommend that people follow the steps in the KB article which allow you recover the system with Windows SP1 installed successfully. So as not to leave
customers in state which is not serviceable, your post was removed.
KB article with steps to resolve the issue:

We also have a blog post on the issue with more details of why the deleted steps should not be attempted:

Hi there,

Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

After some years working perfectly well the Windows 7 copy on my Dell 1720 Inspiron has begun failing the periodic validation checks. Re-activation of Windows reports back as successful, but using the MS validation check invariably reports the copy as non-genuine (it is!).

I have ensured the system is virus/malware free using various tools, checked (as far as my knowledge allows) that all drivers are up to date and tried some of the other suggestions I've read on this forum, but the problem persists.

I receive a similar error again on our HP Pavilion Notebooks with AMD CPU when updating to Windows 10 Creator update as last time when updating to Windows 10. Our office has a few of the 17-G133cl notebook computers and all of them display the same error message: We couldn't install Windows 10 - 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 - The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation. Which is similar to the error displayed during the initial Windows 10 update except that the error shown was 0x1900101 - 0x20000. Back then a BIOS update that became available that fixed the issue. We check for a new BIOS, but all notebooks have the latest BIOS already installed v. F.41 from 9/19/2016. All other systems including other none HP AMD computers upgraded just fine. Any ideas what could cause this issue with that type of system?

For 2 weeks now, I have been completely unable to get Windows Update to run properly on my Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate x64 computer. I have no idea what I did to cause this and I've done some limited troubleshooting to no avail. I would really appreciate any assistance you could offer.
Per the instructions, I have completed the following:

1) I ran the latest version of SURT for my OS.
2) I attempted to run SFC, When sfc /scannow is run from the elevated command prompt, I get the following error:
"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."

When I attempt to run sfc /scannow from the recovery command prompt, I get this error:
"There is a system repair pending which requires a reboot". Please note that I do not have a reboot.xml or a pending.xml file in my Windows\winsxs folder.
3) When I attempt to run Windows Update, I consistently get the following error code: 8007370B. Not sure if this helps or not, but when I run the updater, I usually get the TrustedInstaller.exe process running and consuming approximately 13% CPU. Sometimes the error appears within seconds, and sometimes it takes 1 hour of Windows searching for an update before that error code will appear.
4) I have uploaded my log files here: https://app.box.com/shared/static/t1...z5kai23dh5.zip
If there is any further information required, please let me know. I would like to thank you in advance for your assistance!

I have been trying to schedule my computer to create a restore point every month by using task scheduler.

An error has occurred for task SR. Error message: The following error was reported: 2147750697

Can someone please either help to resolve this issue or suggest a way of creating a restore point every month (hopefully without 3rd party software).

Hi folks

I found my way here after being unable to update to IE10 on Windows 7 (32)

the windows update error is:

"Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7
Installation date: ‎09/‎05/‎2013 10:22 AM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 9C59
Update type: Optional"

I have attached the CBS.zip file. (NB: when I pasted the copy of CBS folder to my desktop I got an error message that access to CBS.log was denied. Maybe this is normal?)

I'd be most grateful for any help you can give.

A:Windows update fails for IE10 on Win7 error code 9C59

the copy/paste problem is common - which is one reason why I tend to prefer just collecting the CBS.log file on its own.
Copy the C:\Windows\logs\CBS\CBS.log file to your desktop, and compress it, then upload that.

Hi there,

I'm having an issue with a laptop running Windows 7 Home x64 SP1. It has failed to install Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 and keeps trying every time I try to run updates.

I've downloaded the installer and tried to run it manually, but that gives me the error 0x80070002

I've attached my CBS log from the last time I attempted the install. Any help will be much appreciated!

Hi just logged into the forum and hope someone can help. I have tried to install this update six times today (07/05/12) after it was flagged as an important update this morning. Looking at my update history it also failed to instal on the 18th October last year but it has not bothered me since and i have not noticed it until now. Of the seven attempts I had the following error codes from earliest to latest : 800B0100, 80246007, 80010108, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D. I have followed advice from MS running KB947821 and FIX IT also disabled my Norton 360 firewalls and auto protect but to no avail. If anyone can help please bear in mind I am not a techie so will need to be told what to do fully. I have read advice on editting the registry but I do not go there! There be dragons!! Also I do not have a DVD with Windows 7 as it was not supplied with my PC and I don't want to restore my computer and lose all my installed software. Any help would be much appreciated. Should I just hide the update and ignore it or will that come back and bite me? Thanks in anticipation.
