Is Lenovo planning on developing a touch screen Thinkpad X Carbon (other than the Thinkpad Yoga)

Q: Is Lenovo planning on developing a touch screen Thinkpad X Carbon (other than the Thinkpad Yoga)

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated). However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities. Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping. The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for. The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon. Thanks,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello there!I've been having some issues with my screen on 2 gen X1 Carbon - it freezes and sometimes it starts to flash at the edges after I close my notebook and open it again, so I have to try to move it into the right position so it can unfreeze. Sometimes pressing on the certain places helps, at the bottom of the display near these dark lines. First I thought that the problem is in the display cable, so I installed a new one, but it didn't help. I noticed that touchscreen works fine even when display is blacked out. What should I do, maybe someone had some simular issues? Sorry for pics quality, I can attach better ones if needed. Thanks for any help!

Hey everybody, I just received my P40 last week as a replacement for another Lenovo device. So far, everything seems to work fine with one exception: When I turn the screen over to the "tablet position", the touch screen and the touch pen show erroneous behaviour.a) As soon as I make the first input with the touch pen, I cannot make any further input with my finger, so the touch input is simply turned off. The Windows setting to ignore touch input when the stylus is used is not active.b) When I try to tap buttons at certain areas of the screen, especially at the upper edge, the cursor of the stylus starts jumping around and shows up at the lower edge of the screen. That means that when I for example tap on the "X" symbol in the upper right corner to close a window, I actually click on some of the symbols in the system tray in the lower right corner. This problem stops occuring as soon as the angle between the two case parts (screen and keyboard) reaches/exceeds approx. 40. It does not matter if Windows is in "Tablet" or "Desktop" Mode. I already tried to manually install another Wacom driver mentioned at https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Wacom-Tablet-Service-for-ISD-Driver-Win... and https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P40-Yoga-issues/td-p/3293985. I had no luck trying driver versions 7.3.3.12, 7.3.4.8 and 7.3.4.13. I would really appreciate your help since this issue makes working in the tablet position... Read more

I have ben dealing with problems with this touch screen since I got the laptop.  It has been continuously ghosting, while it got better after the June update, it still ghosts without touches, until you start using the touch screen.  When using the touch screen it starts drawing gray lines in between the point im touching and the point its ghosting to (the lines arent always direct). I recently wiped my the drive, reimaged to a backup from april and tried reupdating it.  When I got to the touch screen drivers, I got through the initial setup and told it to open the update when finished but the machine froze.  Now when I try to reinstall, I get to the finish page on the update tools install, have it open the updater, but the program immediately closes.Any help would be much appreciated.

I received my new silver matte Thinkpad X1 Carbon laptop less than 3 weeks ago and it already has a slight skim mark in the lid!  I tried to lightly rub it off with a cotton cloth because I thought is was a scuff mark on the surface.  That didn't work.  After a closer inspection, I realized that the lid paint was skimmed!  Does Lenovo sell touch up paint for the silver matte finish? Does anyone have any suggestions how I can refinish my lid?  It seems that the new silver matte color is not as durable as the traditional black!

It sounds like a hardware failure in the panel.  If you have a normal warranty, it's time to use it.

As the X1 Carbon 4th Gen isn't available with a touchscreen, that's no real surprise. If you want a very similar device that has a touchscreen, have a look at the X1 Yoga.

I've just updated my X1 Carbon 3rd Generation to Windows 10. and there are three problems. I'm posting them in one message because they may be related. The Intel Chpset Driver from the support website will not install. It geest as far as the Intel branded installer then says it can't find "setupchipsetx64.msi", even if you browser to the file location.Intel Management Engine 12 appears to install without error messages but every time I run System Update it says it needs to be installed, so either it hasn't installed or it has but System Update doesn't recognise it.The cellular connection option has disappeared from Windows 10 and the Lenovo Wireless Power Settings app. My Sierra Wireless EM7345 appears without error in Device Manager under Network Adapters, it also appears as a GNSS Sensor undeer Sensors, but Windows cannot start this device because its configuration information is missing or damaged in the registry (error 19). It appears in Network Adaptors with a strong signal and is enabled but there's just no way of using it.I have of course installed ALL the updates from th support website apart from the two I've noted which won't install and the two enterprise updates which I don't need.. Windows Update also says the system is up to date. Very disapointing because the 4G adaptor was an expensive option to add to this laptop.

Apologies if something similar has been posted, I just can't find the answer. We have a 5th Generation Thinkpad X1 Carbon connected to a Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 dock. At the moment the display is mirrored using a VGA cable to connect to the dock. What we would like instead is to connect the dock to 2 external monitors with separate content on each monitor and the laptop display blank. I just can't figure out if this is possible, what might be needed, and how! Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi, Today I updated BIOS to 1.38 version and then my touch screen was suddenly gone. I read all related posts here and now I am convinced that it is the problem because of the BIOS update. Because I am using my X1 Yoga as a touch machine for my work, I checked right after my BIOS update and it is not working. I tried downgrade and windows rollback but it did not turn back. My warranty is over but it is not my fault for sure. In this case how can I fix my touch screen? Thanks.

Hi,I suddenly noticed that my touch screen is not working. I have tried to update driver for HID-compliant touch screen (however best driver was alread used). Also tried to disable/enable the device but still no function. I checked the "Events" for the driver and the last event was "Device not migrated" with the following message:"Device HID\VID_056A&PID_504A&Col06\6&2fac5222&0&0005 could not be migrated.Last Device Instance Id: {DEA5AE2A-D1FD-438A-A091-CBD484788436}\Vid_0000&Pid_0000\5&18534b98&0&02Class Guid: {745A17A0-74D3-11D0-B6FE-00A0C90F57DA}Location Path: Migration Rank: 0xF000FFFFFFFFF122Present: trueStatus: 0xC0000719" The pen driver seem to work though. I noticed that outside the visible area on the screen there is a small crack in the glass. Can that cause the touch screen to not function? Regards, Torsten

Hello Lenovo Forum, I installed Xubuntu on my Thinkpad Yoga 14 and one day I tried to poke around and click the mouse button during boot time. Then I had the magical on-screen virtual keyboard popping up on the GRUB menu. You can see a photo of the on screen virtual keyboard here: http://imgur.com/p6JUrQr I also give a video showing how to activate the keyboard: Basically, clicking left mouse button (either the one on the trackpoint or an external mouse can work) will bring up the virtual keyboard. You need to touch it quickly, because every time any content on the screen changes (in this video, that is the countdown which refreshes every second) the keyboard will disappear. Touching the a key on the Virtual keyboard is equivalent to pressing the corresponding physical key. In this video I clicked Down Arrow, Up Arrow and Enter and booted Xubuntu. The Keyboard shows only in the GRUB Menu, as far as I have tested. It does not pop up in BIOS even if you click the left mouse button in BIOS. Is there a more detailed description of this Keyboard available? I searched "Thinkpad Yoga 14 virtual keyboard grub" but got no useful results, so the Keyboard looks like a secret, an easter egg or some maintenance mode to me. Personally I think this keyboard will make it very convenient for those who use the Yoga in tent mode / presentation mode / tablet mode and need to reboot across Linux and Windows and have no external USB keyboard and do not want to co... Hi everyone, I bought a second hand Lenovo Tinkpad Yoga 260 but through my fault, I cracked the screen.Through ebay I bought a replacement screen and installed it. https://www.ebay.nl/itm/12-5-in-1920x1080-Lenovo-ThinkPad-Yoga-260-FHD-LCD-Display-Touch-Digitizer-F... The screen works beautifully, but the touchscreen is completely unresponsive, and the stylus or pen show very very erratic behaviour. I've installed all possible drivers from the Lenovo support site (touch screen, intel mngmt, screen, etc.) but nothing changes. Included is a screen shot of the use of the pen, where I try to draw a simple spiral. See how it messes up? Anyone got an idea how to solve this?Greetings from the NetherlandsJob

Hi all,I'm not sure if I posted in the correct forum and I'm new to this so bear with me.  So I bought this laptop around 5 months ago and only about 1 month ago the left side of the touch screen is not working. It would register that something is touching the bottom left side because I have my visual feedback turned on and after a half a minute of that, you can see it go haywire and register nearly the entire 1/3 left side. After 30 seconds of it going haywire, it would stop. And then either the entire left side or just the bottom left side would completely not register any touches at all. This wouldn't happen all the time, just every other day and definitely enough to be extremely annoying.  I bought my laptop in to get fixed for a completely unrelated problem because it's still under warranty and I told them about this issue but it doesn't seem like they fixed it and I'm thinking it's because it just didn't happen to happen to them when they had it. Also, I'm not sure if it's a software issue (since I don't think that's covered by warranty) or hardware. I have Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit OS, pen and touch support with 10 points.  Is there anyway that you guys can help me on this? It would be much appreciated.

I just received my brand new ThinkPad L380 Yoga yesterday and went through all of the regular set up steps.  The touch screen worked when I first opened it, but then after Windows 10 finished installing, the touch screen and pen no longer worked.  I have done all of the troubleshooting I've found listed in the forums and on the website aside from sending it back, but it still doesn't respond to touch.  The change happened right after Windows 10 was finished updating.  Is there something I'm missing?  Do I need to get an external mouse to try to disable the touchpad?  I'd really like to avoid sending it back if possible.  I know it has to be something I did and I just don't realize it.

Less than two months after purchasing the X1 Gen 7 ThinkPad, I started having issues with the screen not turning back on after the laptop went to sleep. The keyboard and power lights would light up, but the screen would remain black/off. I would have to do a forced restart by holding down the power button for 15 seconds and then restart by pressing the power button again (note - sometimes I had to wait 5 minutes of so before the power button would actually work again after the forced restart). After learning multiple users on this forum were experiencing the same problem, I followed the advice of Lenovo Customer Service in updating my BIOS, display drivers, etc. and was excited thinking the issue was fixed and gone forever... However...now my screen is doing the exact same thing but while in use instead of after falling asleep. Extremely frustrating as I'll be in the middle of working, reading an article, or watching a movie and the screen will go black / shut off / crash. The keyboard and power button lights will remain on but the screen shows nothing and is unresponsive to all keyboard actions. This will happen randomly, sometimes 5 minutes into use and other times 2 hours into use. Laptop has been plugged in/charging in all cases. The only way to get the screen back on is a forced restart. This issue is still occuring after all updates have been installed on Lenovo's System Update app as of (2/1/2020). If anyone else is experiencing this problem or may have a sol... Read more

I checked for viruses. None. I updated all possible drivers. Nothing. I even restored my computer to factory settings and reinstalled windows. Nada. I use it heavily for school, so I haven't had time to send it in for warranty. One day, I turned it on and everything worked again. Wonderful. A couple days later I opened it and it was back to its previous state. PLEASE HELP

I've just bought a Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga (this one: https://www.lenovo.com/de/de/laptops/thinkpad/l-series/ThinkPad-L13-Yoga/p/22TPL13L3Y1) with both a touchscreen and a so-called "Thinkpad Pen Pro" stylus for handwriting. On my Manjaro installation (Arch Linux with gnome) the pen works like a broken mouse, allowing me to move the cursor around and execute left-clicks upon pressing it into the screen really hard. However, Both of the pen's buttons do nothing and I can neither use it to select text nor to draw lines in graphics software such as Krita. It is also not registered by gnome's settings no matter how much I move the pen around, resulting in a picture that looks like this:As much as I love Linux, not being able to take handwritten lecture notes is kind of a big dealbreaker for me right now... Do any of you have experience with Yogas and their pen support for Linux systems? Or do I really need to downgrade to Windows 10 again?
