Precision T5500 wont complete POST

Q: Precision T5500 wont complete POST

i was trying to upgrade the video card on my T5500 from a GTX 560 to a Quadro k 1200.
after trying with the new card, i booted to a display showing no signal, and the diagnostic LED 2 on, and the power led off. also the network led is on without a network cable being connected to it
the manual says LED 2 is a PCI error. but i tried booting without the display card connected, and with no external peripherals, drives or connectors, connected. but the same result.
i removed the card, and i plugged in the older GTX card, and its the same case. I checked the grapohics card and PSU on another computer, they work fine.
im suspecting the motherboard is faulty now, but i would really appreciate some suggestions here, if there is something i missed.

Preferred Solution: Precision T5500 wont complete POST

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,
I have a pair of old Precision 490's which are working well, but needed another, so bought a T5500. It has the OCRH6C motherboard and came with an E5606, which works fine. I've updated the BIOS to A16, so everything should be fine for RAM and CPU upgrades. I bought a 2nd CPU riser, which came with an X5675, which I was overjoyed at! However, the system wouldn't post with it installed on the motherboard and I assumed the X5675 was bad, although the seller has a pic of it working in his T5500.This is with the riser removed. Anyway, I snagged a pair of X5560's cheap and did the upgrade of the on-board CPU first - it won't POST either! The error showing is 1,3,4 HD all flashing, power steady. This combination isn't in the diagnostics. Do any of you have any ideas? I've reset the CMOS (always worked back in the day . . .)

A:Precision T5500

Hi VintageTest,
The LEDs indicate a hardware mismatch:
When you are adding the extra CPU it must be of the same type as the one already fitted on the motherboard. There are also rules for memory population that must be followed when a riser is used:

I recently purchased a refurbished T5500, and upgraded the CPUs, installed USB PCI card and AMD 6770 video cards.  The machine boots without the second CPU riser installed, but when the riser is in I get the Pb7 (flashin 2,3, 4 and solid amber power) error.  I checked the riser pins, pulled the CPU and swapped them, checked the pins on the socket, and everything looks okay.  I have tried just about everything mentioned in other posts referencing the Pb7 error, but to no avail.

I am looking to upgrade my T5500, it currently has 16 GB RAM and a Xeon E5630 2.53GB processor.  I wanted to add a Dell F623F with a Xeon X5570 with 6 GB RAM.  Will the combination of Xeon E5630 and X5570 work or would I have to upgrade the E5630 to an X5570?

I've installed an AMD RX 480 card on my old Dell T5500.
After installing latest driver from AMD and updated BIOS I got this error on my windows 10 (64bit) device manager

Is there anyone have an idea how to make it works?
Thanks a lot.

Earlier this year some posts suggested that the AMD RX 470 might not be compatible with the Precision T5500 due to bios issues.
According to the current VisionTek Radeon RX470 'Overclocked' Edition 4GB GDDR5 product page on the Dell website, the card is compatible with the T5500. Has this been officially tested?
Should other vendor's RX470s be compatible with the T5500?
Is the RX460 compatible with the T5500?

A:Precision T5500 and AMD RX460 or RX470 compatibility?

As far as I know none of them are compatible because F2 bios uses DOS VESA MODE 103 and therefore you get black screen im not ever going to work.   Sapphire support was less than supportive of this.   No issues using EVGA GTX 960 970 980 on precision T3400 or T3500's which are the same family as the 5500's.
There's an easy way to test this.   Find the support number of the one you want to buy and call them and ask them why the card gives a black screen and no way to F2 into bios.   If they say they don't support non UEFI bios and or DOS VESA Video Mode 103 then you have your answer.  This card works fine in older and brand new dells without issue.EVGA 02G-P4-2966-KR  GTX 960 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 SuperSC ACX 2.0+ Video Cardhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487091

Hi All,

I have a Dell T5500 Precision workstation with Dual X5650 and 24GB 1333 RAM. I believe the mother board is a Dell CRH6C.

Can I use PC3-12800 Ram with this mother board? Also, the FX3800 is not really cutting it with games (Obviously). Does this Motherboard support Crossfire or SLI? If yes, has anyone tried putting in an RX 480, RX 580 or a GTX 10 series card in the system?

Desperate to upgrade. Replies are appreciated!

I have recently purchased a Dell Precision T5500 Workstation and I am having difficulty installing a second hard drive. The original computer came with a single regular SATA hard drive on which I installed the Windows 10 64-bit operating system. Then I realized that Dell no longer supports the T5500 for Windows systems beyond Windows 7. I then installed an SSD in the first drive bay and moved the original hard disk to the second bay. A clean installation of Windows 7 64-bit was made on the SSD and all the Windows 7 drivers recommended by Dell were installed .The system operates satisfactorily but the second drive is not recognized in the BIOS or by Windows 7. I can switch the two drives (either loading Windows 7 or Windows 10) but only one data cable seems to work. If I start with only the second data cable connected I receive an error message that Drive 0 is missing.
In BIOS there are three SATA options: 1) Raid Autodetect / AHCI; 2) Raid Autodetect / ATA; 3) Raid on. The original setting was 'Raid on' and if I use either of the other settings Windows 7 will not load. But with either of the autodetect settings on, when I restart the computer the second hard drive is still not recognized in the BIOS. In BIOS, SATA-0 shows the recognized drive controlled by RAID BIOS; SATA-1 and SATA-2 are two DVD drives; SATA-3, SATA-4 and External SATA are all shown as empty. All of these ports are shown as "Controller- serial ATA".
The operation of RAID and SATA are myster... Read more

Hi, I'd just like to get some input from you kind folk regarding a T5500 workstation I own.
This workstation has been running absolutely fine until yesterday. The day before I used it most of the day without issue. I shut it down and turned off the mains as I always do for the night and went to bed.
Next morning I switch the mains back on and hit the power switch and computer starts up but then after about 5 seconds it shut down again. Very odd I thought so I tried again a few more times and exact some thing. No beeps no bios screen no nothing. So paying attention to the lights on the front I noticed this time that the power led was orange but not flashing and numbers 1 and 2 are flashing before it shuts off.
I spent yesterday stripping the machine down and giving it a clean. I've tried running with just one ram dimm and trying different dimms I have. I tried 3 different graphics cards and tested the PSU using the button on the back. PSU seemed fine but just in case I tried another PSU too and no difference at all after any of that. I then pulled the CPU cleaned and applied fresh thermal paste and replaced it, again no difference.
I'm getting absolutely nothing except numbers 1 and 2 flashing for 5 seconds before shut down no matter what I do. I have come to the conclusion that either the motherboard or the CPU has failed. Would this be a safe assumption or is there anything else I could have missed?
I have no way of testing the CPU as I have no other machin... Read more

A:Dell Precision T5500 no longer booting.

1-2 flashing states:  Power failure in onboard voltage regulator.  You're likely on target about the need for a replacement mainboard.
Given the age of the system, if you're going to replace the mainboard, I'd replace the power supply with it.

When I turn my computer on, it freezes on the Dell splash screen like 1/4 of the way. Its a dell D620. Just before it misbehaved, my Google Chrome application started hanging i restarted like two times then it froze and could not boot anymore.
Tried booting with "Fn" but the diagnosis also just hangs. Can't even give me an option of F2/F12 so cant change the boot sequence.
Any ideas?

A:DELL d620 wont complete POST

From the description you provided, i suspect a hardware failure. In most cases it could be either RAM or HDD . Follow the below steps and report the result in next reply.
Warning- Touch your hand in an unpainted metal part to discharge static electricity before removing any component.
Here is the link to the service manual of your laptop - ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_latitude_laptop/latitude-d620_service%20manual_en-us.pdf
1 ) Remove the hard disk and check if the system can enter in to the BIOS. Refer page 18 of the manual if you don't know how to remove the HDD.
2 ) Check if there is an additional RAM in the DIMM socket B which is located in the bottom part. Remove it and check if the system works. Refer page 23 if you are in doubt.
3 ) If the above steps didn't helps, you need to take out the RAM in DIMM slot A which is located under the keyboard. Refer page 22 carefully if you are in doubt. Now remove and reinsert the RAM module several times to resolve any potential contact issues.
Reply after doing the above steps.

Hello to all the experts...I recently just logged off and shut down my computer. When I went to power it back on, I get a steady diagnostic 2,3,4 green flashing and solid amber power on/off light. Replaced power supply with refurbished, still the same problem. Then Dell support says to try and replace the input/output board so, ordered that one with refurbished with new cables, same issue. Some other things done were removing the CMOS battery and re-start, no luck, re-seated all memory, no luck, checked all connections, good...I am told it is possibly the motherboard but, just want see if anyone has any idea's before I order one of those...Thanks in advance for any support provided!!!

A:Dell Precision T5500 flashing 2,3,4 and Amber light

Hi RT51007,
Here's your service manual: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/Common/precision-t5500_setup%20guide_en-us.pdf
Those diagnostic lights indicate "USB subsystem configuration activity in progress or USB subsystem failure" according to your service manual. So a motherboard replacement may be necessary.

A:Help me dell precision t5500 workstation with X5660 Hex Core showing 4 cores instead of 6

Couple of things I can think of. Firstly, perhaps the X5660 is defective. Happens sometimes.
Second possibility is that Windows is configured to only use 4 cores. Go to Cortana's search bar and type in msconfig.exe and hit enter. Click on the Boot tab, then hit 'Advanced Options'. Look at the "Number of processors" field and see if it's set to four cores.

The t5500 starts the POST sequence and stops with leds 1,2, and 3 lit and immediately followed by two short beeps. The power button remains solid green. I have been unable to find the  meaning of that combination and would appreciate some guidance. Recently the display had an orangish tint when waking up so I'm wondering if it's a display failure but I don't have another one on hand to substitute. I did replace the video card and still get the same sequence of error leds and the two beeps.

A:T5500 incomplete POST

Hi Neotoma
Thanks for writing to us.
Please see the below link for the diagnostics 123 sequence.

Usually the system is in reserved state, either its not getting the signal which could be either the motherboard problem or the GPU problem.
You can try re-seating the memory modules as well just in case and try power on one more time, if still the same, then its a faulty motherboard.

Good morning,

I took a DELL T5500 from my company which was going to trash it. It is a Xeon x5650 with 12 Gb RAM and Nvidia Quadro FX4800.
After I brought it at home I cleaned it blowing and vacuuming it. When ready, I connected everything and switched it on and it runs. The problem is it got stucked at step POST S14 with led 1-3 in green. As I saw on the manual this problem is related with routine video sequence, I've done following tests
* using Nvidia Quadro FX4800 (DVI and DP to DVI converter as the dell monitor doesn't have DP)
* using Nvidia NVS 420
* using Nivida GT220 (DVI and VGA with DELL monitor, HDMI with Benq monitor)
* Flashing CMOS
* Changing Bios battery
But I got no results except once when Windows started to load for some seconds before it stops suddenly...

Thanks a lot in advance. I would like to use this server as I think, although it's old, it stills quite powerful nowadays.

I have a Precision T5500 that has been working fine and in service for several years. Last night I powered the machine down completely (and turned off the power strip). This morning I went to power on the machine  and the fans all cranked up very loud (safe mode setting). Initially the number 2 diagnostic light and the HDD and Network lights were on - All solid and the machine did not go further to POSt. Even stranger was the power button was not responsive, the machine needed to be unplugged for it to turn off.
Upon plugging the machine back in the #2 light was off and only the NIC and HDD lights were on. I found that strange.
Currently the machine is striped down to the bare minimum - one 1GB stick of RAM in DIMM #1 (the RAM that came with the machine from Dell - DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 1G, 1333, 1RX8X72, 8, 240, UBE) and I have removed the 2nd CPU rider board and have put only the single original CPU on the motherboard (MODULE, PROCESSOR, E5607, 2.26, XWM, 80W - which also initially came with the machine).
I am very frustrated at this point since there is no change. The motherboard NIC is not plugged in yet the light is on. Same with the HDD light - even with no HDD's the machine should still POST and allow me into the BIOS.
At no time has the power light turned green or amber and at no time other than the first time this morning has any of the #'s 1-4 diagnostic lights turned on.

I pulled the power supply and swapped it with anoth... Read more

Hello all,
I hope that someone can help me and this will be a quick fix.
I have a user that is working on a Dell Precision Tower 5810.  The machine will not complete the reboot process when selected.  Example: Click on the start button > go to arrow next to shutdown and select restart.  The machine will shut down and then the tower's power button will light up and stay lit up, the fan will be running, but nothing will pop up on the monitor.  Then we would have to do a hard boot in order for the machine to complete POST and get us to the sign in screen.
I have tried several things to troubleshoot with no solution:
-restart the machine with no USB inserted
-F2 > checked Boot sequence, POST, nothing unusual
-went to support.dell.com > ran a Dell System Detect test, everything passed
-did a flea power drain

What else can I try?

A:Dell Precision Tower 5810 will not complete restart

Thank you for writing to us.
Would suggest you to try the following steps:
*to set-up the HDD as the First Boot Device in BIOS BOOT sequence.
*Update BIOS to the latest version
*Re-install graphics card drivers with the latest drivers
Hope this helps, do let me know if you still face any further issue.

Precision m4700.  Normally on most of time.  The other day had to power off and when went to power it back on, nothing.  System has all 4 banks populated with 8g for 32g total.
Power light comes on, HD light flashes, Optical bay light flashes, sound (mute, -, +) all light up, power light stays on solid.  No LED codes from HD/Batt/Wifi.
Have removed ODD, HD, mSata module, wifi, all ram, no changes.
Tried with/without battery, tried different ac adapter.  Tried with HDMI cabled up, tried with VGA cabled up.
One time, when I removed a memory module I got the 'memory has changed' warning, thought I'd found it, turned it off (stupid me) and then never got it again.  Even changing other memory didnt result in another warning.
No beep codes.
Tried different memory and memory configurations.  Nothing.  Using incorrect memory (PC3-8500 for example) resulted in LED pattern indicating a problem with memory configuration)
I've disconnected CMOS battery overnight and bled any residual power, nothing.
If I remove all memory and power on, the LED codes DO indicate no modules are installed.
If I press and hold FN while turning on power, I get a blinking battery light, but can find nothing LED wise that matches OFF, BLINKING, OFF
If I press D and power on the display comes up and cycles between White/Red/Green/Blue/Black for 30s or so.
Of course, warranty ended the end of June.
Any thoughts?

CONCATENATE takes the values from the source cells, not the formatting that is applied to them. If you want particular formats, you must apply them within the concatenation, for example

I have a Dell Precision T7500 that won't post. After powering it on the #2 diagnostic code light is solid. The power button is green not amber but won't post and 2 light stays on solid.
Any ideas how to get passed this? .

A:Precision T7500: No Post - Solid 2 Light

According to the manual, light 2 on Before POST is "reserved" and nothing shown for possible problem.
If its light 2 after/during POST the documentation says a PCI device configuration activity is in progress or PCI device failure was detected.
If you have any PCI devices plugged into the motherboard, do a reseat and see if that helps.  Reseat, with the PC powered off, open the case and remove the PCI card  and then reinstall making sure its fully and correctly reinstalled.  Power back on and see if this helps.  If not, possible PCI card failure.

I recently purchased a refurbished Dell Precision T7500.
It contains two Xeon X5675 processors, 96GB Ram, A Quadro 4000 graphics card.
When I turn it on, it takes 30 seconds before it reaches the Dell screen. It is another 30 seconds before it has detected the hard drives and starts booting (most of this is in the "Initialising" phase).
Is this normal, and is there anything I can do to speed it up? I have already gone into the bios and selected the fast boot option.

My Dell Precision 450 completes POST and offers F2 Setup, or F12 Boot Menu.

Whatever I choose and also if I do nothing, I get a blank screen with a flashing cursor and the diagnostic lights on the front stay on A & B steady green and C & D steady yellow.

This goes on for 3 - 5 minutes, then boot up continues.. I am trying to reinstall Windows XP Pro and this delay causes it to restart the installation every time this delay occurs on restarting the PC, which happens routinely during the install. This makes the reinstall impossible.

The PC is a Dell Precision 450 Workstation built 2003

Two twin core Intel Xeon 2.8GHz CPUs
2GB PC2100 DDR Memory
ATI Radeon AGP 512 MB Graphics Card
Two Seagate 160 GB IDE HDDs, (1 with Ubuntu, the other Windows XP Pro SP 3) I have tried master/slave in both directions and cable select but this has no effect on the delay.
1 DVD RW+- and RAM

PSU 360W tested fuly functional.

I will run the TSG Sysinfo in the morning, assuming it will run in UBUNTU, and post the results. It takes a bit of time because I have to transfer from one PC to another as the Dell is not internet connected until I get Windows up and running.

Any ideas will be most welcome.

- GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L with Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz-
I have an idea what my problem is, but before I start ordering new parts I thought I'd post here.

Yesterday my PC speaker started beeping intermittantly. Like a thermal warning beep. I pulled apart the box, saw the CPU cooler blanketed in dust and decided to give all the fans and heatsinks a cleaning. After pulling the cpu cooler, I noticed the thermal paste had melted and run down the side of the CPU. I carefully took a disposable mechanics towel and wiped the paste off of the cpu and the retaining mechanism, then finished my cleaning of the fans and heatsinks.

After reassembling and applying power to the box I couldn't get it to post. The case fans spin up, then the cpu fan spins up and immediately everything shuts down. If I don't break power, the rig will continue to repeat this cycle. If I pull the 4-pin ATX plug, the cpu fan and all other fans continue to spin, but the system wont post and the USB peripherals don't light up. I'm thinking ESD damage to the CPU socket, but not 100% on my diagnosis. Thought? Anyone. Thanks.

A:Won't complete POST

Did you clean and reapply fresh thermal compound to the HSF and Processor? This woud be required. Also if the HSF is not seated properly and completely it will not boot. ESD would not be much of a problem if you were touching the computer case while doing your cleaning. Just touching with your bare skin would effectively eliminate a static discharge.

Hi, I have been trying for the last week to even complete a scan with adaware, spybot, or even one of the online scanners you provide in the the instructions but they are all timing out and not allowing me to complete them and delete/remove the harmful objects. I have tried uninstalling/installing each program several times, and now I seem to have strange spyware programs showing up which I deleted via add/remove programs. I would really like to be able to complete the process in order to post a log and ask one of you kindly for help, but I seem to be at a loss. Any tips?

Thanks in advance.

A:Can't Complete Steps Necessary To Post Log. Help?

Have you tried booting into safe mode before running these programs? Start your computer, then press F8 BEFORE Windows loads (usually about 5-10 seconds after turning computer on.) Use the arrow keys to scroll up to Safe Mode. Choose your version of Windows on the next screen, if necessary.

The colors will be all funky and everything on screen will be very large, as a stripped down display driver is loaded in Safe Mode, as well as preventing most viruses from loading into memory. It should allow you to run Ad-Aware, Spybot, and virus scanners, though!

Hope this helps!

Hello Ngazek. Welcome to the forum.

Have you tried removing the battery and trying to start the laptop with only the power supply?

Also try starting without some of the removable components.
If there are 2 sticks of RAM then just install one. Then the other one. Try one stick in each slot.
Remove the hard drive. Remove the DVD drive. Remove both.
You are basically trying to isolate what piece of hardware is failing and causing the system to not boot.

I have removed all but 2 sticks of memory and checked the pins on the CPU riser, all seem to be fine. And system works when riser is removed. Does anyone have any clues or fixes that might help me with this.
Many Thanks

Two weeks ago I completed my first build;

CPU: AMD Athalon 64 3200+ Venice
Motherboard 939Dual-SATA2 BIOS Version: V1.50
Memory: Corsair 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR 400 (PC 3200)
Video Card: eVGA-Geforce 6600GT 128MB PCI
HDD: 40GB Fuji IDE(Operating) & 250GB WD SataII
Operating System: Windows XP Professional
PSU: Turbolink switching power supply ATX-CW500P4 12V(500W Max)

Four days ago I did something moderately unwise and restarted during a seemingly stalled (XP equivalent of) scandisk. After that, I could not get as far as POST during startup. Power was cycling through the DVD drives and hard drives, video card and cpu fan worked fine, but no monitor info, no F11 for Boot Menu, no F8 for Safe Mode, No F2 for BIOS Menu, no POST beeps.

After several attempts to restart with just the video card, still no change. Reseated RAM, booted once without RAM, double checked all cables, no luck. I cleared CMOS, no change. As an out-of-ideas act, I tried a restart with a floppy... and POST occured.

After resetting BIOS, my system seems back to normal. Can anyone shed light on what happened? I'd be greatful to hear your ideas.

I have read all the pre log posting instructions. I can't get gmer.exe to finish. when i open it it runs. i see files scroll down below. at first it brought up files indicating my free avg virus program and finish it's first scan (no notices). i do not see a select all button but click on 'scan' anyways. i wait and wait but nothing happens. so i uninstalled my virus detection and ran it again. this time it starts (files scroll for about 4 seconds) and i assume it finishes (no files listed, no notices). i still dont see a select all button. it looks like there is some text hidden under the 'scan' and 'copy' button. I have a widescreen and have seen this issue of text being hidden under buttons but i can see the button. when i click it, it doesn't depress or highlight. please advise.

thanks, chuck

A:[SOLVED] would like to post hijack log. can't complete gmer scan.

What has this program got to do with Hyjack this? It appears the thing is virtually useless anyway to most individuals.

There Is No Way Whatsoever to Interpret the Report"

Cons: At this point, I'm forced to rate GMER 1.0.13 with the lowest rating possible. The developer seems to have overlooked that the average computer user doesn't even know what a rootkit is, and therefore, may need some instructions or help file information to understand the meaning of the scan results. GMER might possibly be the best rootkit detector there is, I admit. However, there's no way for the user to know. There is absolutely no help file or documentation included with the program. Also, checking the web site provides no information on how to interpret GMER's scan results. The FAQs shown at GMER's web site have virtually no information. There is only the SLIGHTEST hint that a red-colored entry in the scan results might, repeat, MIGHT indicate the presence of a rootkit, however, even the meaning of a red-colored report entry is left in doubt.

I hesitate to rate GMER so poorly, but if you can't understand what the scan results are telling you, it's of little use.

Original issue posted in Wndows XP thread:

First... Have WIN XP Pro SP2....

For some reason when I try to create a VPN dialer in Network connections wizard, the actual dialer can't be found... The wizard completes, with no error, but can't find the dialer to complete the configuration...

I have since re-applied SP2, and it has not resolved the issue. This issue persists in any profile on machine, and any profile I create. Through msconfig, I have booted in Microsoft only services, and cleared startup, and it still has the same problem.

A little history; I suspected viruses or malware on Thursday because of strange behavior of IE6 (started hanging on launch intermittently), and at times VPN dialers already installed would not launch. Norton which was on the machine had just expired days before and was giving me kernel errors on its main executable, services.exe was at times taking 300mb to 600mb of memory, so I ran an online scan at ewido.net, and it did find a couple of things and removed them. I uninstalled Norton, and subscribed to Windows Live OneCare installed on machine, I then upgraded to IE7.. Ran a complete virus and malware scan with the OneCare program. It found 2 viruses (mydoom, and a joke virus), however I think these were remnents left of Norton uninstall, but they were there...

After this I attempted to use IE7... IE7 froze when launched, had to kill process.. It froze everytime when launched afterwards... I tried to use Firefox, and it would lo... Read more

Hello everyone,
I have an Dell precision 960 which won't boot, during boot it beeps short twice, and the post lights 1,2,3 are lit, in the manual it says that you have to look on the screen for further problems, but the pc doesn't give video out.
the pc has 16g ram allocated on 1st 4 slots and has a low-end graphics card installed, no DVD, HDD connected to eliminate them.
thanks in advance:

A:dell precision wont boot

I don't see a Precision 960 listed -- is this an Optiplex 960?  Or is it a Precision 690?
If it's a Precision 690, the very first thing to look for is the presence of bad or leaking capacitors on the mainboard - particularly near the memory socket and CPU socket.  If any are bulging or leaking a brownish substance, the mainboard will need to be replaced.  These systems were very well known for capacitor failures.
There's a set of four diagnostic LEDs on the system -- what pattern of off/green/amber shows on those?

Hi. So I'm working on a friends Precision T3500 and when its plugged in the green 1,2,3 and 4 lights stay solid green on the front panel. When I push the test button on the back of the power supply the fans come on but as soon as I let go of the button they shut off. There are also know beeps during any of this. I have tried another new power supply and get the same results. I think everything is fried as their house got hit with a lightning surge and some other electronics died as well. Any thought? Thanks.

A:Precision T3500 Wont power on

"When I push the test button on the back of the power supply the fans come on but as soon as I let go of the button they shut off." thats how the BIST button works.
Sounds like Fried ram, cpu, motherboard.

So my co worker asked me to look at her laptop its a toshiba tecra m2. The boot keeps hanging up on the system32 file agp440.sys . I went on the internet and found a windows xp pro disk to try and replace the system32 file using recovery. After a learning how to add SATA drivers to the windows xp boot I was able to detect the hard drive and just before windows setup screen comes up the computer blue screens with a 0x0000007B stop error... I read that the battery could cause this so i carefully took apart the computer and replaced it with no change. I put a windows 7 disk in to see if i could use the recovery console in it and suprisingly it booted no problem, i was able to use command prompt but with no idea what the problem is i have no idea what to do with it. If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated. Thanks for reading the problem hope someone has an idea. any more info needed just ask

A:Windows wont boot hangs up on agp440.sys and wont complete boot off the disk :/

Info on 7B STOP errors...http://www.aumha.org/a/stop.htm, scroll down to 7B in left column.

IMO, you have compounded the situation by using a "downloaded" version of Windows, since I suspect that such may contain embedded malware as part of the package.

Any number of things may have caused the initial hang, as you can see by reading the data at the Aumha website.

Hi and thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

I have been trying since yesterday to get rid of this pesky antivermins with little success. I have run every spyware scan/cleaner I can find and, several of them freeze up and wont complete their job.

This has been the case with Smitfraud as well. While attempting to folow the automatic or manual removal procedures found on this website [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic69886.html], I have encountered the folowing issues:

1. While using Smitfraud in safemode, the disk cleanup utility freeze up and wont complete it's job. I know it can take a while but I left it going for 10 hrs and the progress bar neve moved.

2. I cant find the listed .dll files that I am asked to rename in the manual procedure. On my machine the path is C:\winnt\system32.

Now the actual anti-vermins program seems to be gone, however I am still getting the fake system warning that will take me to their page should I click on it. I am 1 step away from formatting my hardrive right now, as I am very insecure about my PC privacy.

A:Smitfraud Wont Complete

ok after scanning with Panda, it told me that the kuhmk.dll file was there, and now I can find it...

gonna try manual removal again.

Left computer on overnight, I usually just move the mouse and its business as usual. Finance, for some reason flops down at my PC ??? grr. I woke up sat down at my PC and it was off? turned it on and it starts to boot but stops on the microsoft screen then goes black. this continues back and forth same action over and over again. later on noticed keyboard wasnt responding, plugged it into a different usb, came on but seems to work when windows starts up but stops when the boot process stops as well. i ran system checks etc. dont understand alot of the tech information, I do okay removing viruses and other fixes but Im out of my league here. I did get a couple of "graphics error messages" didnt understand them so just continued the diagnostics.
prior to my registering I was reading posts on your site and found a couple of posts that seem to be associated with my problem. ie, computer not booting up, screen going black, keyboard not responding. thats whats happening. I need your help badly, my appreciation would be enormous. thank you. Im using my bo's work laptop at this time.

A:PC wont complete boot up

Hi leannaluv,

Use "Ultimate Boot CD" to diagnos the hardware on your computer. Here is the link to the Ultimate Boot CD website: Ultimate Boot CD - Overview. Put the program onto a CD and boot the computer to it. Then test the computer hardware such has motherboard, ram, and cpu to to make sure they all work fine.

Another thing you can do is to perform a "Check Disk Repair" on your computer. Boot the computer to your Windows XP CD and on the main menu, choose "R" to go to the recovery console. Then on the repair console, type in "chkdsk /r" to perform a check disk repair. Make sure there is a space between "chkdsk" and "/r". Hope everything works out for you.
