CCleaner

Q: CCleaner

Good Morning:
I have been using "ccleaner" for several years and it seems to work well. As you might know, this utility udates about every 4 weeks or so. My question is: Does the new update remove the older updates? If not, there must be a huge file on my PC somewhere? Should I be concerned about this file if it does in fact exist?

Thanks: Dave

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Ccleaner

Ccleaner is going to list the registry entries that lead nowhere. Just be sure that box is checked : 'prompt to backup registry' in the Options>Advanced section. It will then backup the registry for you in case you find that a program is not functioning properly and you can simply 'undo' the registry fixes made by Ccleaner.

I went to use it and it told me that the path did not exist, like when the program is deleted, but the shortcut remains. I went to reinstall it and received the error, error in writing to c:/Program Files/ccleaner/ ccleaner.exe I don't know what has happened and don't know what to do. hello everyone

I have just downloaded the new version of ccleaner.
In the settings menu it has wipe free space drives and wipe MFT free space.
Should I untick or leave as they are.

regards calmat

A:ccleaner

Hello Again,
Most members, indicate that you can leave the default settings. I do not see a problem leaving those two items ticked.

CCleaner can wipe the MFT free space - it's safe to do this but will take a while. It means that other programs will be less likely to recover files that you have deleted or moved.
http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleane...ree-disk-space

Ccleaner, suggests that you may want to untick these two catergories since, it take substantially more time to complete.

I have been using this utility (like many others) for a while and I wondered if anyone would venture an opinion on the safe use of of entries under Cleaner>system and Cleaner>advanced. I know a lot of it is personal preference but there a some of those check boxes I'm a bit wary of (i.e. I dont know what they are), e.g.DNS cache, Wipe Free Space. Any opinions would be welcome.

A:Using CCleaner

Generally, if you do not need the space, you will not need to use these options. Some, if not most of these options will clear various caches, logs, uninstallation files, etc.

Is CCleaner a good program to use to uninstall programs, clean registry, clean computer? lol I have a bunch of programs i dont use and need to uninstall

A:CCleaner

If you need to uninstall, it is better to use the Add/Remove programs option in Win XP. CCleaner is a good program for cleaning up the registy and getting rid of unwanted files *Temp Int Files, Cache, Win Log files, etc* You can cuustomize the options to fit ur needs, for example not cleaning out cookies.

I love using the program, and it really helps to speed up the system.

Have been getting "scam popups". The one that has a screen shot of the Defender program and then a Warning sign starts flashing and a female voice warning that my computer has been infected by a serious virus and then she gives their phone number and states that I must call them to get the virus removed before my browser will work properly again. My ISP (one of the big companies - don't know if I would be braking any forum rules so I won't say their name) was able to remove this somehow or another and then he installed a free copy of CCleaner and a program called U-Block - he said the U-Block should aid in blocking these type of popups and he also installed the free version of CCleaner which he recommend I run about once a week or so and it will clean out the cache and get rid of the temporary files that build up on the hard drive. CCleaner also analysis the Registry and cleans that up as well.

Any thoughts about using either of these programs.

A:ccleaner

Do the following in the order that they're listed.

Go here to download and save Malwarebytes AdwCleaner to your desktop.
If you get a warning that this file is unsafe, ignore the warning.
Close all open windows first, then double-click the AdwCleaner.exe desktop icon to load its main window.
Click the "Scan" button, then allow the scanning process to finish.
Several seconds may pass before the scanning process starts and completes, so be patient.
If any threats are found, the number found will appear in red.
Click the "Clean" button, then click "OK".
Allow the cleaning process to finish.
When it's finished, click "OK" in each window that appears.
The computer will restart.
When the log appears during restart, save it.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log here.

Go here, then click the "Download Now @ Author's Site" button to download and save TFC.exe (Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer) to your desktop.
If you get a warning that this file is unsafe, ignore the warning.
After it's downloaded and saved, close all open windows.
Double-click it to load its main window.
Click the "Start" button.
If there are a large number of temp files or if there are multiple user accounts, the temp file deletion process may appear to freeze and may take a few minutes, so don't interfere with or abort it.
After it's finished, restart the computer if prompted to.

A:does ccleaner help

I use the disk cleanup part of CCleaner and it keeps my hard disk free of clutter by cleaning up temp files and other stuff. I don't think the registry cleaner part is recommended. Cleaning the registry does not speed up the computer in any way, so any speedup from CCleaner would be due to less clutter on the hard disk (for which the tool is outstanding).

I've been using this program for some time now, and it has a feature which you can use to scan your registry for issues, and then fix them.

It also allows you to create a backup before going through with the changes. I haven't used this in some time, and that's what I'm getting at. I've been using this feature pretty haphazardly without creating a backup beforehand, and I was wondering how safe this is.

I know messing around with your registry can cause a lot damage, but I was under the impression that with Crap Cleaner, it was relatively safe.

Anyway, I've not encountered any problems as of yet, but nonetheless, I figured it'd be good to at least have some idea of the implications of what I'm doing before I just up and do it without thinking.

So should I be using the backup option more often? Or can I pretty much just delete most of this stuff and not have anything to worry about?

On my W7 laptop I have CCleaner which I use regularly but under Tools there is one listed as Duplicate Finder which shows a good deal of them when I run that. My question is should the duplicate files etc be deleted as most if not all seem to me seem to be software and OS files so I am very wary about doing so.
Thanks for any info on this.

A:W7 & CCleaner

Do not delete unless you know positively what you're doing. It isn't necessary. Todays' HDs have enough space that you don't have to worry about filling up.

I've been having problems running CC scan/clean on my Win 10 notebook. It seems CC is having a problem with IE History and deleting IE Temporary Files. (Notice others are having same problem with deleting IE Temp Files.)

I did go into the IE and delete history, but the IE Temp files still show in CC.

I was wondering if there is another similar 'cleaning' program that might work with Win 10 with no problems?

I was wondering if one of the (free) programs from this site might work better with my Win 10 http://alternativeto.net/software/ccleaner/

Maybe BleachBit? I'm a beginner who has been using CC for many years and if I had to change on my Win 10 notebook, I would like one that is simple to use and would work similar to CC (with no Firewall, etc.).

Thank you.

I apologise if this is in the wrong section. It is just information.

Up until recently, CCleaner showed all the startup programs including Chrome. The recent updates do not show any startup data for Chrome, the panel is blank. All the other sections are OK.

This has been reported to Piriform by a number of users including me and the message is that they are looking into it.

CCleaner does seem to include Chrome files etc. in the other cleaning options, but if one area of data is missing, I do not trust it. Perhaps the files now being shown are old  files and not current. Who knows ?

Hello,I'm moving this to the Other Applications forum. That said, I see that you are receiving assistance here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/333339/hijackthis-help/ ; therefore, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the MRT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.Orange Blossom

Curious to hear other peoples experience with this. I have been using ccleaner and have been very happy with it.

Hello.I also use CCleaner's "Crap" "Cleaner" function. I do not use the registry cleaner and do not plan to either. Also, please be aware that Bleeping Computer staff do not recommend the usage of registry cleaners/tools due to the following facts:Registry tools can cause irreparable damage to your Operating System. This could include making your computer inoperatable. These programs generally only delete "orphaned" or "dead" entries. This merely removes entries that point to files that no longer exist on your computer. Registry entries do not take up a significant amount of hardrive space. The program itself (and its own registry entries) likely occupy relatively more space. The amount of improvement in performance you gain is minimal. This is done, assuming that the major audience here at this board may be inexperienced users and thus a suggested safeguard from our side. If you feel that your have sufficient knowledge to use such tools safely, then you are welcome to keep them.Miekiemoes one of our Malware Staff has blogged about registry cleaners and why they are dangerous over here. It's worth a read. With Regards,Extremeboy
