Preferred Solution: Firefox crashing (plugin container for firefox has stopped working)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Firefox crashing (plugin container for firefox has stopped working)

Go to Index page ? mozillaZine Forums ; on the right-side of the screen, in the search box for Boards, enter "plugin container crashes" (without the quotation marks) and read some of the threads, which may lead you to the solution.

My quick look at a few of those threads indicated that hardware acceleration may be the culprit; if you need help with that, do another search for that subject.

There was an amusing incident on mozillaZine recently concerning hardware acceleration: One person posted a vituperative message blaming the moderators for frequently suggesting turning off hardware acceleration on the grounds that doing that had never helped a single person.

The very next thread I read was from a person thanking the moderators: He had been told to try turning off hardware acceleration, he did so, and his problem was solved.

I was having problems with too high physical memory usage(highest was 73%) causing my PC to respond slower even during winexplore. I started uninstalling unnecessary programs and disabling unnecessary processes, when I noticed that plugin-container.exe is taking up 23,xxx KB memory while firefox takes up 400,xxxKB. Is this normal? Is there any way I can tone Firefox down to further lessen my PC's physical memory usage? As of now, it's down to 36%.

I usually run either Fraps, Skyrim, or Azureus Vuze while using Firefox. Current active plugins for Firefox are:
Quicktime plugin
Java Platform
Java Deployment toolkit
Shockwave Flash

Unless you're very limited in ram, its nothing to worry about. I've stressed FF to eat up to 4GB or ram and another 4 for the Plugin Container.

Hi,

Recently when I use Firefox to surf on the Internet, I always have like 5-6 tabs opened. After 5-10 minutes, the browser is running very slowly and sometimes at the top bar it says (Not Responding). It is like a performance drop, changing tabs is slow, scrolling down a page is slow. I check the Task Manager it uses like 1907.23 MB of Memory and it shows 99% of Memory used.

I always have to end the Firefox process and open it again and restore my last session. It always use 150-180 MB of Memory at the first minute. But the longer I keep Firefox open, even on Minimize, my computer slows down and again it use 99% of Memory so I have to end process again. This happens over and over again. And when I check my Crash Dumps folder, I saw a lot of plugin-container dump files.

So how do I solve this issue? It's not a big deal though but I want a solution.

EDIT: Firefox is my preferred browser, I don't really like Chrome and not to mention Internet Explorer.

A:Firefox plugin-container

First, make sure you have the latest version of Firefox ie. 38.01
Next, right click on the Title, and select Menu Bar. From the Menu, click on Help->Restart With Add-Ons disabled to see if you experience the same problem.

If the problem is gone then go to Tools->Menu->Add-ons and disable all the add-ons then re-enable one by one until you experience the same problem then you might have a bad add-on.

If the the problem still persist. Tools->Options and create a SYNC account and sign-in. This will save all your Bookmarks, Add-ons etc...
then uninstall Firefox completely.

Next, download and install Firefox again then sign in to SYNC to get back all bookmarks, add-ons etc...

If you upgraded your FF you may/may not have problems with it's plugin-container.exe. It apparently causes crashes/lock ups of FF on some systems, slowdowns on others.

I saw some reports associated with this file, which takes up (in some instances) an inordinate amount of RAM, thus causing the browser to lock up.

Some AV/Malware programs are registering it as Malware.

On a personal note, it really does bug me that the file REQUIRES internet access (*and there is no option to bypass or disable it). If you don't allow it, some sites that require flash just won't load.

Aside from that, no problems with the new browser.

How else do you expect it to get content that resides online then? To put it into perspective, when Firefox encounters a plugin required container (object, embed) in the HTML it diverts those off to plugin-container.exe to handle and download the necessary resources it supports. So of course it needs access to the internet. It would be no different denying Firefox internet access.

This has been a recurring problem with the 32-bit versions of Firefox that I've used in the past. I've now switched to the current 64-bit version (43.0) only to find that this problem is occurring.
I had been keeping the 32-bit version bug at bay using the user environment variable "MOZ_DISABLE_OOP_PLUGINS" but that no longer works for the 64-bit version. I've gone so far as to add "64" to the variable in several different ways but none of those worked.

Any suggestions on a fix or workaround for this?

Suggest: Clean install flash player.

Flash Player removal tool: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player...r-windows.html

Make sure you follow all steps including step 3d

Delete:
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
%appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player
%appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player

Confirm deletion by attempting to navigate to the above folders once they have been deleted.

Important: Step 4.1
Restart your computer before fresh installing flash player.

Other stuff you can try:

Backup your profile (bookmarks and extensions)

MozBackup - Backup tool for Firefox and Thunderbird

Uninstall Firefox and delete leftovers:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...-your-computer

Include these steps:

   Note
To remove other files and folders that may not be removed by the uninstall, you must manually delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations by default:
32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

   Note
Pess the Windows key +R to open a Run dialog, type in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\ and click OK to open the Mozilla folder, then delete the Firefox folder.
Reboot. Clean install Firefox then restore your bookmarks and extensions from the Mozbackup file that you saved.

First let me tell you my setup.
OS: Windows 7 Home Edition (64 bit version)
Browser: Firefox 3.5.7

Now let me explain my problem. I have installed the latest version of Quicktime on my computer, and it automatically installed the QT plugin for Firefox. The plugin will play online MP3 files with no problem at all in the audio, but instead a problem in the player control onscreen display. You know how it displays a play button, and positon slider, etc, in a little embeded QT control box on the screen when an onlien MP3 file is loaded in as the page? Well my little QT control box is COMPLETELY BLACK, with no visible controls at all. The actual standalone QT player has no problems though. I took a screencap of the problem and uploaded to Photobucket so you can see for yourself what the problem is exactly. Picture is FULL screen size so it won't fit in the forums embedded. I've instead linked to it here for you to see.

You have Quicktime set to play Flash media. Open Quicktime, either from Control Panel or Start Menu. Click on File Types tab, click the + beside Miscellaneous and make sure that the box is not checked beside Flash media. Apply and OK. Restart your browser and see if it works. You may have to down load Flash Player if you don't have it.

After firefox was updated 2-3 weeks ago on my computer, it was never able to connect to the internet. That annoyed me to begin with, I tried messing with the vista firewall, and turning it off/adding firefox to the exemptions, and nothing worked. So I just went ahead and used IE. About a week ago, it stopped connecting also, for no reason. I did a system recovery to before it stopped working, and it worked fine for 3 days, and now it doesnt connect again.

I figure it has something to do wiht the firewall, or something related to that, but I do not know what to do other than to block the firewall which hasnt worked. I know I have internet, AIM and the news/weather sidebars on my computer work fine. Other computers are having no problem on my network, and its the same issue on other wireless networks that I used to be able to connect to fine. As well as this, when I plug in the cable straight to the internet, it does the same thing, so its not the wireless.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, its just getting frustrating not being able to do anything online.

Thanks

Good day,

My laptop was working fine yesterday early morning. When I was just surfing the net numerous tabs suddenly opened at the same time. I am using firefox as my default browser, thinking that somehow maybe I had click my mouse but it happened again. I ran my antivirus program avast and a full system scan of malwarebytes, however, the system crashed. I reboot the laptop and again run malwarebytes, a full system scan, which found many malwares which were removed hopefully upon reboot. I run avast which did not find any problem.

Now whenever I open an application usually firefox or microsoft word there would be a delay which was not there before. And after a few minutes, the application will crash telling me that there's an error and needs to be close. The delay is usually greater when I'm using the microsoft word or other applications like notepad, etc. And everytime I do quick scan using malwarebytes an infected file is always seen: "trojan:ransom registry value HKCU\software\microsoft\windowsNT\currentversion\windowslload value:windowslload". The infected file always show up after a quick scan of malwarebytes even if previously scanned I selected the file to be remove after reboot.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You might want to run a few virus scans and such. Also, try these:1. Boot up in Safe Mode and see if the browsers will load2. If you have the Firefox setup file, reinstall it.3. If you have your os cd, uninstall IE, and then use the cd to reinstall it.

I cleaned Windows up and restarted, but it didn't help. I found both apps can run when admin rights are used.

Where the problem can lie? Should I try changing some registry values?

You could try uninstalling Firefox and then type %appdata% into the run box(windows key+R)then delete the mozilla folder and reinstall.Just a word of warning the Mozilla folder contains all the passwords addons bookmarks etc so if you tried this you would be left with the basic firefox. So before you try this copy the mozilla folder to a safe place so you can if you wish return it later.

A few days ago I attempted to download a file which apparently was a trojan. I've since had issues with the firefox.exe process continuously running and receiving the "Firefox has stopped running" error. My ESET A/V identified "a variant of Win32/Olmarik.RJ trojan" and quarantined it. I've ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.41 multiple times and it has quarantined/deleted the same 7 entries/files (log files available), but I still receive the firefox process error. I changed my default browser to IE8 and the problem has switched to the iexplore.exe process, so this problem is most assuredly a trojan. I need help in removing this one. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP1...thanks in advance for your time and help.

Hi, most times when I close Firefox I get a M/S Windows message saying that Firefox has stopped working and asking me to close the program. I opened Task Manager and in Processes Firefox is still showing until I click 'Close program' even though I have closed the browser. WerFault (whatever that is) is also running until I click 'close program' . Any ideas?

A:[SOLVED] 'Firefox has stopped working'

WerFault allows you to report the problem to Microsoft. If you do, you won't get a reply. FF does what you mentioned from time to time, sometimes caused by too many tabs open at closing. Reinstall FF. It won't change any of your settings.

I own a relatively old laptop / notebook with on-board graphics ( MEDION MAM2120 / MD97300 ).

It used to work fine with live online video streaming but with the implementation of plug-in containers for all three big web browsers ( Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome ) my CPU ( AMD Turion 64 ML-32 with 1.6 GhZ ) gets pushed to 100% usage which negatively impacts not only on fan noise but also visual experience.

I there a way to switch on the 'plug-in container' functionality in any of those browsers to improve may streaming quality? Does an alternative 'light weight' browser exist which is not as resource hungry and well suited for online streaming? I appreciate any suggestions other than buying a new laptop.

The Power people came to our door and said they would be turning off the power for 2 hours. I called up to my wife and said do a shutdown on your laptop (Toshiba) and I shut mine down (HP). After the new polls were installed, the power came back on, I was out fishing, came home, turned on my computer, all was fine, went to browse and it (Firefox latest 3xxx). The netwok is fine, AIM loads, my weatherbugs load and get this, EVEN AOL software/browser and what stumps me most, AOL Desktop, which I thought was really even a more generic IE Browser works. FF and IE7 acts as if their is no internet connection.

Wife's was working fine. Reset Sat Modem, Reset Netgear Router. Tried everything I know, crapped out. RESET ROUTER to generic unsecure mode, no different. Uninstallted Mcaffe, nothing, Turned off Windows Firewall, NOTHING. Both browers act like no internet connection (Even went Cat5 hard wire, no change) I am a hardware guy, certainly not a software guy for 25 years. This one has me stumped. As I said AOL works with its browser, desktop works, all the stuff like AIM (standalone) works, Sidebar internet items work, connection is right, no browers.

Any Ideas, wrong forum? Something makes me believe hardware, so I backed it all up and did a simple restore that does not FORMAT or remove files, nothing, went back to SEP 12th Recovery, no help.I am stumped??

Thanks

Firefox 3.02 stopped working. I upgraded to 3.03, then tried a clean reinstall, then tried going back to Firefox 2. Tried running Firefox in Safe Mode. Also disabled Norton, and Windows Firewall. Also tried uninstalling Windows SP3. Nothing worked! IE and Outlook Express work fine. Before this happened I uninstalled the free Norton Corporate Edition which came with my new computer and installed my university's Symantec Antivirus 10.1.5.5000. I read somewhere that Norton uninstall can cause this problem, but don't know what to do.

All of the sudden Firefox (latest) doesn't play flash videos. I uninstalled Adobe Flash addon and opened up a youtube video, it gives me the "need flash addon" which I downloaded and reinstalled. When I open up firefox and open up a video it doesn't say or display anything and status in lower left is "Done". Uninstalling/Reinstalling Flash and Firefox does nothing. Internet Explorer runs fine without any problems.

OS is Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

I have also cleared all cache files, registry entries, installation folders and downloaded new copies of Firefox and Flash, etc...Nothing changes.

Seems like Firefox fails with a different issue every week or so and I have to restore windows to a restore point from the day before and everything is fine.

Anyone else have problems with Firefox on Vista 64?

In attempt to fix the problem i have uninstalled the extention, uninstalled firefox completly, cleaned the registry and reinstalled but to no effect,
has this happened before and does anybody know a solution?
(when attempting to visit gmail it says loading then seems to jus continually refresh the page before loading up !...this cycle is never ending !)

Hi,
This is my 1st post here. I've often found answers to my problems on this site, after googling them. So I thought I'd ask here this time around.

Since yesterday, Firefox can't seem to handle my Gmail account anymore. I have no problem logging into my Google account and accessing other Google pages (search, agenda...); all except Gmail.
When I try, the loading page just gets stuck forever. I can however log in if I clear Firefox's cache and cookies before. But that doesn't solve the issue since any subsequent actions get stuck exactly the same way. For example, if clear cache and cookies, log in, then click on an email header, nothing: It stays stuck on the inbox page. Same if I do a search or anything. It appears as if I would have to clear cache and cookies every time I want to perform any action in Gmail...

I can use the simplified HTML version without a problem.

My other browsers (IE and Chrome) work perfectly fine with the same Gmail account.

A google search revealed that other people experience the exact same problem. But I haven't found a solution that works. Everywhere I get the suggestion to clear cache and cookies, which doesn't work in my case.

I'd greatly appreciate suggestions at this point. Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, I wasn't sure where to post this. Intermittently (every 2-3 days) when I start up my computer I constantly get a pop up stating that Firefox has stopped responding. The trouble is I don't even have Firefox installed. As a diagnostic step I downloaded and installed Firefox then used Revo Uninstaller to wipe the machine clean of Firefox. I've ensured all Firefox folders are deleted as well.

I've run a scan using Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 and Malwarebytes but no joy in finding anything at all threat related. Unfortunately as I type this it has stopped so I cannot get screen shots but will add these as soon as I can.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

People always said that Firefox was the best browser compared to IE but since installing Firefox, I have found nothing but problems with it especially after a new update.

Firefox won't save any of my new bookmarks anymore.

Firefox's back or forward button doesn't function for me anymore so I'm stuck with using backspace to go backwards.

Should I just uninstall and reinstall?

Would my bookmarks still be saved and installed after reinstalling?

OK let's say I have this pic:
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/5820/62782536ds9.jpg
And I want to easily post it on my blog (the "Add Picture" function in blogger is really bad, it basically screws up the page design, which is why I don't use it)

What I would usually do is drag the pic with my mouse, take it over the "blogger tab", and release my mouse on the text writing area.
This would result in the pic being perfectly displayed in the text area.
(text writing area = http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/9609/23423432ov2.jpg )

Now, after upgrading to firefox 3.1, instead of the pic being perfectly pasted, it simply takes over my tab. (the tab's address is redirected to the pic's address)

Is there any solution for this, I bet it's something inside the firefox's config menu (about:config).

Thanks in advance, I would really appreciate this.

btw 2 more things:
1. don't tell me to install older firefox, I need FF 3.1 for another reason. I also really need this bug fixed, becoz I have to paste dozens of pics a day.
2. let's say there is no way to fix this, can u redirect me to the ff customer service or something like that?

I've got FF v.3.6.20 and with one tab open and the recent "plugin-container" running after a little flash player action, task manager says, between the two
they take approx. 80,000 K of RAM

Chrome v.13.0.782.112 m with one tab open is sucking up approx. 180,000 K of RAM. task mngr. also shows 5 processes named "chrome.exe"

after reading that, Chrome still loads as fast or faster than FF.

I'm not all up on what my browsers do with RAM and how/if that effects page-loading

Can someone please explain this to me?

Thanks

A:FF3 + plugin-container vs Chrome

With tabbed web browsers it's normal to have several instances of the browser running in processes. There's one for each open tab, but that does not in any way effect page-loading times. Google Chrome uses a different browser engine, and that's what makes the difference.

Firefox 3 is in any case well out of date now by several versions. The latest is v6.0 so you should consider updating it to enjoy the extra security and new features -- it's faster too.
