USB ports on connected USB-C Hub not usable

Q: USB ports on connected USB-C Hub not usable

Device: Thinkpad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen. Hello everyone,i have a pretty exotic error these days. I use the following "dock" or better hub at work: VAVA USB-C 8-in-1-DockI connected power supply, monitor, keyboard and mouse.Overnight the dock doesn't work properly anymore. The USB ports (USB-A) are not usable anymore.Otherwise HDMI, AC, Ethernet and SD- as well as micro SD continue to work properly. It's not the dock itself, because the USB ports work fine with other devices and connected devices are recognized. The PC recognizes the USB hub. SD card as well as Micro SD card, Ethernet, USB-C, HDMI work. The 3 USB-A ports have power, but the connected devices are not displayed or usable (data medium cannot be read, keyboard not used). And now comes the funny thing: If I connect the "VAVA Dock" via the USB-C port to my Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock, on which the X1 Yoga then is connected to, the USB ports will work perfectly again. Ergo: The Thunderbolt / USB-C ports directly on my X1Y don't recognize these ports as such anymore. (?!) Since this isn't the first time that Intel's Thunderbolt software and the great Microsoft USB-C environment don't work (it was hard to predict that USB-C would come), I tried to uninstall and reinstall the Thunderbolt Intel software and drivers - with no success. Also unistall and deleting the device in the device manager, was a fail. So the question is, does anyone have any experience with this? Is it possible to reset the two USB-C ports? Pretty sure it is a WIN10 Problem, but the Windows help page was as supportive as salt water against thirst... Dear Lenovo Support, what should I do? Many thanks for your help!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I was just wondering I am considering getting the new AMD Radeon 6870 card. I currently using a HDMI 1.3 cable and I was just wondering if the 1.3 cables still work in the 1.4 port that the 6870 has?

I would think that it should be fine, but I'm not 100% sure.

Whenever I have something (scanner, joystick, writing tablet, etc.) that is plugged into either of my 2 USB ports on my computer, there will be a loud screeching, distorted noise coming from the speakers.

The noise does not start instantly, it can take anywhere from seconds to minutes before it starts to happen. Also, it only happens when other sound is coming out of the speakers already. For instance, if I have music playing, or a game with sound running, and it will go away if I shut the program down. But it always comes back shortly if I run something that has sound in it again.

It happens even if I am not using the hardware that is plugged into the USB port at the time. Something just has to be plugged into the port. If I unplug the hardware the noise does not happen ever.

If anybody has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

hi just want to know if my 2 printers can connect on my usb port (i have 4 usb ports) attach to my motherboard (epox) using usb 2.0/hi-speed? just wondering coz' when i look at my printer ports my 1st printer is attached to a usb port 2.0 and the other is 1.0 i want both to be attached in 2.0 so that i can used its maximum speed. how will i know if my 4 usb ports are at hi-speed/2.0? thanks in advance.

A:2 printers connected in usb ports

You wont print any faster at 2.0 speeds than at 1.1. For a typical document, you send all of about 50kb of data to the printer. At USB 1.1 speeds (11mbps), it'll take 1/220 sec. At USB 2.0 speeds, it'll take (1/9600 sec). However, your printer will likely not be able to receive data at these speeds anyway.

To answer your question about your ports, all of them *should* be 2.0. If you are not geting a message popping up saying that you are using a 2.0 device in a 1.1 port, its probably just a printer limitation (why a typical printer would need 2.0 is beyond me, but.....).

hi everyone!

a friend of mine had a zoom wired router and two computers hard wired to it. he sold a computer and bought a laptop with 802.11g built in. he decided to buy a wireless access point so he could go on the internet anywhere in his house. the access point is a hawking as you will see in my network layout diagram. the network works fine however he like playing online games and uses VNC alot which worked fine when he opened the ports required on the wired router but now he has two routers and tries to port forward it doesnt work, could anyone have any ideas on how to get to open the ports, thanks!

A:opening ports with two routers connected together

I recommend the following configuration.

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

Hey all so I have forwarded some ports on my router with Airport Utility (NAT port forwarding), but using cmd netstat -n the ports I forwarded aren't listed and using online port checkers confirms they are closed. I added exceptions to my firewall (even though it is off), and windows defender is off, and Avast's shields are all off. I honestly have no idea how to open the ports up and haven't found a way to do this using Windows 8 (not pro).

Anybody have any ideas? It seems like Windows 8 is blocking these ports from opening for some reason. There doesn't seem to be an override function in cmd to open them, either.

In case you're wondering why I need the ports open, I'm trying to resolve a "request timeout" error when pinging somebody on Hamachi - so I'm trying to open the main ports Hamachi uses (I just want to play Terraria, man).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Ports closed; router forwarded ports, firewalls disabled?

Temporarily add your PC IP into the DMZ and try again , see if the internal/external tests then notice the ports open , this will test if it's a router or PC issue....

Don't forget to take it out of the DMZ after testing...

My modem-router is in bridged mode (everything is disabled except internet), i have disabled windows firewall i have taken my firewall offline (until this issue is resolved) but still no one can access my server (they can't even join a game if i create a server)

if i go to port checker it says connection refused on all ports except port 80? how do i force open the ports?

i called my ISP and they say they should be open and there not blocking any ports.

I have a static ip address, 24Mbit up 2.5Mbit down.

when i run my filesharing program (for sharing files between my and my clients) and they try to download a file from me it says it will take (99years, 99days, 99 hours) now i don't really have that long to wait

edit: and yes my network properties are configured manually (and not on auto detect) i have no problem accessing the internet myself

A:Opening ports, i have the firewall disabled but ports are still blocked

It would be better to open the ports in the running firewall than to turn it off. Firewalls load drivers, running or not. Many firewalls block everything by default when they are turned off so that the machine is protected during boot.

You may need to uninstall some firewalls to get them to open all ports.

If I plug the drive in the rear ports it detects right away leading me to suspect the case's ports might be defective but I don't have another USB 2.0 card lying around to confirm.

Based on this info does it seem likely that the front ports themselves are faulty?

You might check to see if the case end of the USB cables are properly plugged into the front panel holding the headers. Some board need more than one brand of USB drivers, Renesas, NEC, etc.

So I'm sure this isnt' where this goes honestly but putting it out there just to try to help anybody else who struggled with this as long as I did... I ended up getting my two USB ports on the left side (turned out to be my 3.0 ports) to work again when they wouldn't recognize anything. I could use the 2 USB on the right 2.0 ports, but the transfer rate was terrible.  My response on another question where someone had a similar issue... good luck!  "Hi  Not sure if this will help you but I had the same problem, the two left ports were not working on my Dv7. Installed and used an uninstaller to clean out some old files and apparently removed some important .dlls. Some programs were affected by the removal of the .dlls including MS Office and internet browsers, and I noticed some strange things on the home network on other PCs. Some pages weren't loading flash portions of internet pages. I suspect that the router drivers were somehow compromised, but that problem seems to be under control for now. I reinstalled flash player and shockwave, and I am mostly confident that the browser problems are resolved.

Ran the repair utility on the XP installation disk on the affected machine, and for the most part the original problems seem to have disappeared. MS Office functionality has returned with the flash reinstall and with the XP reinstall. I have reinstalled some drivers including the graphics and monitor drivers, so graphics are good. However, a whole new crop of problems have appeared since the repair installation.

The affected computer is an HP DC7700 small form factor with 6 USB ports on the back and 2 on the front. Additionally, there are also a microphone jack and a headphone jack on the front. The 2 USB ports and the mic and headphone jack on the front both have lost functionality. I use the usb ports frequently with cameras and other small utilities and the mic and headphone jack for voice to text. Pretty important to me to restore functionality of the devices. Okay I live in the dorms in college.(well actually they are not the dorms but overflow apartments because the dorms were full, not sure if it matters but thought i should add) I brought my wireless netgear router with me to school to plug my Ps3 into and to download certain things the school blocks on the regular wireless internet.

So I plug my router into the jack in the room and then run wireless to my laptop and wired to my Ps3. I set up the router and it determined the internet connection is DHCP . I set the router to obtain I.P. and DNS addresses dynamically and it won't work. then i set it to use static addresses. ( the address that it picked up dynamically ) It then works for awhile, sometimes a few hours and sometimes less than an hour. To get it to work again all I have to do is set it back to dynamic wait a couple minutes and move it back to static. When I lose connection my playstation says its a DNS error.

my roommate plugs his laptop directly into the jack on the wall because he doesn't have a wireless card and he hasn't said anything about losing his connection. But once i plugged him into the router he loses his connection just like me.

I am sure i am forgetting something important if anymore info is needed I will add. Please help it is really getting annoying changing the setting on the router

I've got a new NAS (WD MyCloud 3 TB) which seems to be good connected to my LAN over a GBit Router. At least it's possible to transfer big files at maximum 105 MByte/s with the Windows copy function.
So I decided to make the NAS my backup drive (Windows 7 integrated Backup function from a SSD). Before I used a USB2-connected hard drive. The daily incremental backup took about 5 minutes  (2,5 GByte). Now when using the NAS the backup
took 43 minutes for the same amount of data.
A daily backup usually consists of 50 files, the data is collected by .zip-Files (about 200 MB each). Looking at the timestamps I see that on of these files (mostly containing 4-5 parts of outlook.pst) needs about 5 minutes to be generated and/or transferred.
What could be the reason for the slow data transfer? Is this a caching issue? What can I change?

Win 7 Ultimate 64byteThe network icon in the tray is red with a red X.Network and Sharing center states I am currently not connected to any networks.I click on 'Connect to a Network', at the top of the pop up it says 'Not Connected', below the 'Connections Are Available' icon it shows my wireless network and connected.I can't connect to a HomeGroup.Internet connectivity is working.

A:Windows 7 states I'm not connected to any networks when in fact I am connected to my wireless network??

I found a solution for (my version of) this problem.  My tray icon never showed the red X, but if I clicked on the icon, the popup showed a bigger icon with a red X, and said "Not connected".  As in your case, Internet worked, but I'm unable to setup a VPN connection because it insists on using a non-existent modem, obviously because I'm "not connected" (which I am).

I monitored the processes running the NlaSvc and Netprofm services (using ProcMon), and noticed that both were denied read/write access to subkeys within the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList hierarchy.

The processes were running as NetworkService and LocalService, respectively, so I tried adding full access for these service accounts to the entire subkey mentioned above.  Notice that permissions are not automatically inherited in the registry, so you may need to explicitly "replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object".

Within seconds, Network and Sharing Center tells me I'm connected to my domain.  Yay!
A reboot was required to fix the tray icon and its popup.

However, I'm still unable to add my VPN connection.

I'm interested in hearing from you guys if your registries miss the same permissions?  If so, Windows 7 must have a bug somewhere with misaligned service permissions/rights.

When I use my laptop B at work, everything works perfectly... When I get

I used ping and found that it can only ping IP address instead of websites...
I first thought that maybe the DNS server was screwed . Then I used my

Laptop A works fine, can ping website and browse websits with a chime....

I thought i was reasonably PC savvy but after reading some of these posts I realise that I have no idea! - please be gentle...

I am living in a boarding hostel which has a wireless network (via Mac Airports) which I have connected to - it says that the signal strength is good (though it does appear to fluctuate)

This wireless connection uses a proxy server to connect to the internet (so that they have some control over what the students can see).

My problem is that I can connect to the network, but not always to the internet (using firefox). the internet seems to cut in and out, and if it is connected, it runs VERY slowly, and most often times out (even when opening something simple like google.com)

What I need to know is:
1. how can I tell if this is a PC issue or network issue?
2. I ran the intel PROset diagnostics tool and it says that the ping test failed (no response: default gateway, DHCP server)
Some things that I've tried:
1. other computers seem to work fine on the network
2. disabled windows firewall
3. talked to the techs but since they're mac users they weren't familiar with vista and therefire not too much help.

Ideas on what to do please??

i have tried updating drivers, removing all drivers and letting windows rediscover and install driver.

i have also tried installing an internet dongle, the laptop will pickup the dongle, install the software but then display no connection.

i then tried installing a belkin wirless adapter but since the software is only up to vista i dont believe it has worked. ( everything installed ok but still will not connect to the internet)

i am also finding out that it is not getting proxy details either. and on occasions i will get limited connectivity or the adapter will refuse to connect to the router.

Hello Serg, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Sometimes a simple restart of the PC will sort the network icon for you.

If not, then a quick disable and enable of the wireless network usually will toggle it back with the correct icon.

Hello:I've been having an issue with my Dell XPS Desktop (Intel Ethernet Connection I219-V Ethernet card).
When I connect this server to my router by an ethernet cable, all other other computers connected (Hardwired or Wifi connected) disconnect themselves from the internet. I get the same response when I connect to the Wireless Wifi as well.
It happens only with this Desktop running Windows 10.
I was told to change the DNS address to the OPENDNS Addresses - I tried and I had no luck. I do not have the Ethernet card or the Desktop in powersave mode. They do not go to sleep when idle.
Can someone please make any suggestions. Any input from your end would be very much appreciated.

A few days ago I installed a USB 3.0 card (to be precise, this one: 2-Port USB 3.0 SuperSpeed PCI-E Controller Card - Free Shipping - DealExtreme). It uses the very common NEC ?PD720200 USB 3.0 controller. I installed the required drivers for Windows 7, and the card worked fine for the first day or so. but not since. Whenever I plug in a USB 3.0 external hard drive, I get a false "This device can perform faster..." message, as if I had plugged the drive in a USB 2.0 port.

The external drive I am using is a Western Digital MyBook Essential 1130. It is definitely a USB 3.0 drive, and came with the required USB 3.0 cable. While the USB 3.0 card was working, I got full-speed transfers to the limit of the hard drive's ability, about 90-100 MB/s. Now I can only get USB 2.0 speeds (33-34 MB/s). Windows insists I have the drive plugged into a USB 2.0 port even though it is plugged directly into the USB 3.0 card.

Things I tried so far:
-rebooting and complete power cycle. No difference.
-plugging the drive into one port or the other. Also no difference.
-Looked in Device manager. No help there either. The controller is recognized as a USB 3.0 device is using the proper NEC drivers.

Other info that may be important:
-No overclocking settings in use.
-I made sure the cable was plugged in all the way. It's in as far as it can go, but the ports will still only act like USB 2.0 ports.

This is very frustrating. How do I fix it? I might as well throw th... Read more

My daughter has a lot of Barbie CD-ROM games. There is one game she has that is rather old, yet it is really one of her favorites, Barbie's Magic Genie Bottle. This game came with a life-sized magic genie bottle that acted as a joy-stick. It has a motion sensor jewel on the front that you move your hand in front of, and the top comes off. Each of these things perfomed a function in the game.

I'm sure you can imagine the appeal to an 8-year-old little girl

Now, the problem is, I've gotten a.......hmmm....complete system overhaul, I guess you could say. A new, larger hard-drive, new processor and new motherboard. The OLD system had a gameport on the back of the computer. The new one doesn't. It only has USB ports.

Please, SOMEBODY, tell me that there is some sort of adapter, or someway I can make this Genie Bottle work with this system! If any of you have never lived in a house with an 8-year-old, Barbie-obsessed little girl, you have no idea of the drama and histrionics that are occuring here.

Is there any way I can make a Magic Genie Bottle with a gameport plug work with a tower that now only has USB ports???

Hey guys, brand new kid here. Fairly computer literate but not a whiz by any means. I had to do a Windows XP System Recovery on my HP desktop PC a few weeks ago and since then my USB 2.0 ports haven't been themselves.

Before when I used my Kingston 4gb SDHC card in my front USB 2.0 ports (as they're labeled) it worked at full speed with no problems. After the System Recovery, when I plug in the card it gives me a message saying "This device could perform faster if it were plugged into a High Speed USB 2.0 Port." The problem is, my Device Manager lists a high speed port and hub on my computer, but I get the same message on all the ports on my computer. I tried updating the drivers and uninstalling and reinstalling them but to no avail.

Vista Ultimate 64-bit, ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard, USB mouse and keyboard connected in back ports.

I turned off my PC for a couple of hours, turned it back on and realized that my USB keyboard was not working on the password screen.

I eventually unplugged it from the back and plugged it into the front, where it worked. However, my USB mouse did not work when plugged into the second front port, nor did it work when plugged into the front port in which the keyboard worked.

I accessed System Restore using my keyboard and restored to one day previously. When it finished, both keyboard and mouse worked, although I got a pop-up message alerting me that the "drivers for your device could not be installed." When I clicked "OK," the mouse stopped working again.

I have checked BIOS and both mouse and keyboard are recognized, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue.

I haven't used my desktop in a while (been on this laptop), but I got on it the other day and was greeted by terrible performance. There was a program called VirusRemover2008 on the desktop that I instantly recognized as malicious because 1.) I didn't put it there and 2.) It was very busy with prompts. I ran AVG and it took forever to scan my computer, but after two attempts (the computer just didn't want to work, I had to use the task manager to open programs because I couldn't get to the task bar) it finally finished its scan and found tons of adware/spyware/etc., along with two "threats" that took some effort to get rid of. I ended up using a program remover to get rid of "VirusRemover2008" and whatever it had in my registry.

So, after a restart or two my computer is running relatively well. I'd say it's healthy now...except for the fact that it will not connect to the Internet. It thinks it is...but my browsers won't load, programs can't update, etc. My connections show that I'm connected, my router and my modem say that I'm connected (tried bypassing router, no difference), and no restarting/disabling/connection repairing or anything else has made a difference. From my amateur technical perspective, everything is perfectly fine...except my computer just seems to be missing some step that I don't understand. It looks fine, everything checks out...but apparently there's no connection despite reading "Connected" everywhere I know to look (Ne... Read more

A:PC is connected, but not connected. Weird problem that I can't understand at all.

Is there no edit option? Sorry for double post, but I fixed the problem...somehow. I remembered that I had a registry cleaner on my computer and went ahead and ran it to see if I could get lucky, and it did the trick. After it repaired the registry I gave Firefox a try and it popped right up!

Have to recommend Eusing Free Registry Cleaner now.

Had the worst experience of a lifetime. Was able to access the internet everywhere, even McDonalds. Get Warner Cable internet at home, says connected, but getting the 'this page cannot be displayed,' page. Tried troubleshooting, resetting TCP/IP, going into the internet tools when I could access it at other locations to set the security; downloaded new search engine, mozilla; called cable and sat on phone for 2 hours resetting our modem, walking through the process, with a technician and ended up scheduling for one to come back out to the house; to say the least every tip, I tried it. Cable even came out and tried and could not solve the issue. The desktop and other laptop in our house worked fine. Then I came here and found a post from 4 fricken years ago that worked instantly. I found it on my cell phone, took my computer over a friends who has netgear that I piggy backed off of and set a restore point and downloaded the software. I couldn't wait to get home to test it and WALLAH, it worked immediately, I love you tw0rld. So I posted the remedy again, for anyone who can't access the internet, try this, its an awesome tool!!!!! Don't go calling geeksquad. To think its 2012 and TWC technicians don't even know how to fix this issue!!!!!!!!!!

Logged in this morning and certain network connected apps Xbox app, true key password manager, microsoft hello face recognition would not connect to the internet. I have internet access and have no problem browsing but settings shows I have no network connection. Tried other PCs connected to the same router and connection to the internet is shown in settings on all others.

It's the same if I use my wired ethernet or my wireless connection on this PC. I have uninstalled the adapters and reinstalled them.

Any ideas as to what can fix this problem?

I'm sure this question has been asked multiple times because I myself have read countless posts trying to figure out my problem and solve it, but nothing has seemed to work for me. I have an HP G60-230US laptop and a Linksys router. It says my laptop is connected to linksys but it has a limited connection. It will not connect to the Internet and I can't open the Internet at all. I got an error saying that it was unable to communicate with the Primary DNS Server but I'm pretty clueless as to how to go about fixing this.

Thanks in advance!

Hi bdman32,

Try removing all network profiles, re-add your own SSID (wireless network) with the correct encryption.

Make sure that 'Obtain DNS Server address automatically' in your wireless setting is set to auto.

I am having the exact same problem this user did:

However, resetting my router -- an SMC -- and trying several channels have not solved the problem. In fact, I even tried a different router. Same problem.

It worked flawlessly for nearly two years, and now suddenly it is having this trouble. It says either "Not Connected" or "Automatic" when communicating with my wireless router, and if it says "Not Connected," it is actually connected -- i.e., I can surf in IE or Firefox -- but then eventually loses the connection after about 10 minutes or so.

I'm thinking it must be some weird software quirk.

Anybody have an idea?

I have a desktop PC connected to my router with an ethernet cable. I have another desktop in another room which is connected wirelessly. After I reboot my desktop says "not connected - no network connections available" on the system tray. Meanwhile the wirelessly connected PC is fine.

This has happened three times. On the first two occasions I was able to get back to normal by doing a few system restores ( the first one never worked and sometimes the second and third.) until it magically started working and I had internet access. This time that isn't working. I thought it was related to a windows update but I have disabled them and it happened again today.

When I got my access back there were no problems for ten days until I had to reboot and then I get the problem again.

I have read this board and tried the following without success:

- reset winsock ipv4 ipv6
- clean reboot
- disabled and re-enabled my network adaptor

Any other ideas? This is really frustrating.

I purchased this laptop for school and it was working perfectly fine. The network connection was great and everything. Today it decided not to connect to the internet, yet it is still connected to my network, but recognizes it as undefined. Instead of having the normal bars it has a yellow exlamation mark. I have contacted my ISP and my router is working fine. I'm on a different computer and it is working fine as well, so there's something wrong with my computer. I have contacted a representative and they said they could not help me either.

But surely someone here will be able to help hopefully.

I have tried everything I know to fix it. I cannot connect even if I'm using the ethernet cable.

The computer is an Acer laptop and I have Windows 7.

A:Connected to Network adapter, but not connected at the same time?

Could you go to the start menu and run the command "cmd", then when the black window opens up, type in: ipconfig /all (there's a space before the '/', but not after it) then press return. A whole bunch of stuff will scroll. Could you cut/paste that info into a response here?

I have run all the cleanups suggested. And everything is coming up clean. When I first started working on this pc i was told that it probably wasnt recoverable. That thought is still looming in the back of my head. Everything seems to be running fine again but there were many trojans on it when i first got it and i know they like to dig in deep. I wont feel good giving back without having an expert check out the log. Thank you in advance for your time and help. A:HP 250 G4 32 bit will only see 2.6GB of usable RAM

HI. The RAM memory reserved for the system is determined memory for the hardware of the computer, not always what indicates is a coreccto value to 100%, I have seen that only when changing d operating system all the available memory is seen.Although you must know that this will not affect when your team is going better or worse, it will be the same. Regards.
