*Clap*=monitor turns on, "Photoshop" = Photoshop starts up

Q: *Clap*=monitor turns on, "Photoshop" = Photoshop starts up

Is there a progrom that will use the microphone and allow you to control your computer?

When you clap the screen turns on (like when you go idle)
Program it so when you say "Start Photoshop" photoshop starts running
Clap twice to turn off
Say "Play Techno", plays the techno playlist you have created under iTunes

Other Ideas:

When you say "submit" it will click the submit button on the current active page (like in IE)

*I currently have a computer that has voice recognition software built in (its a fujitsu tablet pc running Windows Xp Tablet Edition), but I basically use it as my desktop as of now and it's hooked up to a 20" monitor, and has a built in microphone and wireless card.

Preferred Solution: *Clap*=monitor turns on, "Photoshop" = Photoshop starts up

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I moved my "My Documents" folder from the C:drive to the V: drive.

All applications except Photoshop Elements 3.0 recognized the move and had no problems accessing their respective data.

However, Photoshop Elements still remembers the old tree structure and cannot find the original files. I tried Photoshop's help to no avail.

Much thanks to anyone with the expertise to resolve my dilemma.

Load the ORGANIZER, click Edit, at the bottom of the dropdown menu highlight Preferences, click on Files. Another window will load, highlight Files.

I have a tif file named "W.Clark" that I edited and tried to "SaveAs" "W.Clark2" (Format box in the Save As window indicated TIF). However, in Windows Explorer the file is just "File", not "MS Office Doc imaging file," i.e. a tif. Moreover, when I try to SaveAs "W.Clark.2" the file type become 2 File in Windows Explorer. Photoshop is not adding the appropriate extension. BUT, if I SaveAs "WClark" (remove all periods) the file gets saved as a TIF. If seems to me periods in the filename are a problem, but WHY - this has never been a problem in the past. Another thing that works is for me to manually type .tif at the end of the filename, for example, SaveAs "W.Clark.tif" will become a tif.

I rebooted the computer but the quirk persists. It appears to be related only to Photoshop as I did SaveAs on a PageMaker document (period in the name and at the end) and there were no problems - that is, the files automatically added the PageMaker extension to the end.

Under Tools, I have the boxed checked that says "Hide extensions of known filetypes" - I've always had this box checked.

I don't want to have to remove periods from existing filenames, nor do I want to manually type ".tif" at the end of all SaveAs....this quirk bugs me....it's appeared seemingly out of the blue today. Any suggestions????

Thanks in advance.

I'm using Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. I am following a tutorial for creating glassy buttons. It tells me to use the Rectangular tool to draw a rectangular shape with rounded corners, so I do that fine. Then the tutorial says to make sure the "Fill Pixels" icon (which is suppose to be at the top left side of the tools bar - see attached image) but I can't find it there. Most likely the person doing the tutorial is using an older or newer version than I am using and that icon is in a different place or something.

Any Photoshop users out there who might help me find the "Fill pixels" icon would be much appreciated.

I've had my computer for a while now and always used the old version of Adobe Photoshop 2.0 as it was easy and I'm not one to move on to new things when the old things still work. My computer crashed last week and I needed to do a complete clean of the hard drive in order to get it up and running again. My PC is doing great now but I no longer have that old version of Photoshop nor can I find the disk or get it from Adobe. Does anyone out there have any idea where I could get this item? Alright, here at school I've been working on sprites for my Games Programming class. At first I was using a trial version of Paint Shop Pro 7, which is fine for spriting, and it has this feature called an Edge Preserving Smooth. I used this on sprites to smooth out the pixelated look they initially have, and everything was fine until the trial expired. So I got my Photoshop CS2 on this computer. However, in Photoshop CS2 I've been unable to find anything even vaguely similar to it, and I know that it has it because I've seen my friend run drawings through Photoshop and have them come out the exact same way, though I'm sure that it doesn't have the same name. Here's an example of Before and After the Edge Preserving Smooth in Paint Shop Pro 7 so you can see what I mean.

Does anyone know how this effect is achieved in Photoshop CS2? It sort of blends the pixels together so they appear smooth and shiny and stuff, instead of all pixelated and whatnot. I've been trying EVERYTHING and even searching Google all I ever find is ways to smooth skins, blend two textures together, and other generally useless information for what I'm doing.

I recently built a new system and installed Windows 7 (64-bit). I installed Adobe Photoshop CS6, and I ran into trouble with the "Open With" menu. When I right-click on a .jpg image and select "Open With" I can not for the life of me get it to recognize Photoshop. I don't necessarily want it to be the default program for .jpg's but to just show up as one of the recommended. When I select browse and navigate to the Photoshop executable and click Open, it just closes the browse window and doesn't add Photoshop to the list.

I also tried as adding Photoshop to the registry entry for .jpg's in both of these places:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ FileExts \ .jpg \ OpenWithList

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ .jpg \ OpenWithList

After trying each of those and restarting each time, still nothing.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advanced!

Hi guys, noob here. I just got a new computer with Win7 Home Premium 64-bit, and previously was using XP. In XP I was able to add Photoshop to the "Open with" menu upon right-clicking any .jpg file, but I'm having trouble doing this in Win7. It will only allow me to add the 64bit version, which is not working on my system for some reason (the 32bit version works fine.)

Is there a way to get the 32 bit version to add to the menu? Right now, even if I select the Photoshop 32bit version, it still adds the 64bit version to the menu for some reason.

A:How to add Photoshop 32bit to "Open With" in 64bit OS?

Hi there,

You may have already done this, but I can't quite tell from your description.

1. Right-click on a file of the type for which you want to set Photoshop as the default.
2. Go to "Open with...", click "Choose default program...", and then click "Browse."
3. Go to C:\Program Files (x86) and follow the folder path to reach Photoshop.
4. Select the Photoshop executable (.exe), click "Open", make sure the box labeled "Always use the selected program to open this type of file" is checked, then click "OK".

Let me know if that solves your problem.

Hi, I recently upgraded my PC from Vista to Windows 7.

The update took a while, but so far it has been well worth it. Photoshop worked just fine on Vista when I used it, and so far it has worked perfectly fine on 7. On the other hand, I am stuck in a spot where I keep crashing it and have not found a work around. Now I am wondering if this is related to Windows 7 or something just specific to Photoshop(I have never got it to crash before).

I am a student taking a Photoshop class, so this isn't some hardcore project or anything. I am following a lesson straight out of Adobe's Photoshop CS4 Classroom in a book, book....

Specifically the lesson 9, where we take a smart object, rasterize it, then apply it to a vanishing point filter. It is on this step where I drag a flat image and Photoshop converts it to appear like it belongs on a box, that Photoshop freezes, and windows makes it close down with no other option.

I know I put some technical stuff about photoshop here and this is a windows forum. I just thought maybe someone here would be knowledgeable on both subjects.

If anyone has some suggestions on ways to fix this please let me know. I know I could just stop doing it, but maybe there are other people who reproduce this error or something.

Thanks, Nick

After a year, it started having heat issues (middle/end of 2013) - we tried ordering an additional fan for her case but slowly the heat issues got worse until I finally RMA'd it recently. Right before RMA'ing her card, it suddenly stopped working - when windows would start to load it would suddenly turn off the monitor and say there was "no input". Now if I started it in safe mode (with or without networking) it'd run video fine, but not in low resolution mode (it'd still not run, monitor turned off) so I assumed it was a problem with the drivers.

I tried sweeping the drivers a couple times (100% complete uninstall) to no avail, and finally just decided to wait for the new card to come in. I've set Turn off the display setting in my power plan to 15 minutes and my monitor does turn off after that period (sometimes it doesn't!), but then, sometimes, it turns ON by itself after few minutes.

I've been Google-ing these days trying to find some solution and I came across suggestions which recommends that Allow this device to wake the computer option, located in the Power management tab, in the Properties window of the network adapter, in the Device manager, should be disabled. Also, there were suggestions that Wake on Magic packet property in the Advanced tab should be disabled, too. Unfortunately, all that did not work in my case.

Does somebody know what can cause this problem? Has anyone ever encountered such phenomena?

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

When I start up Photoshop CS2, an error message pops up and it says that my monitor profile appears to be defective, please rerun your monitor calibration software.

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 753s (CRT), and I have the software disc for it.

If i select "ignore profile" or "use anyway" the problem is the same, all my color swatches and my colorpicker is pink and messed up, and the brush tools don't work.
Making my photoshop experience kinda useless.

What must I do, and is my monitor profile the problem or not??

It is interesting, but since I got this laptop, I have noticed that the colors of the photos I use look darker on other screens. So, I don't know which is the right one. I feel like all the hard work I get to perfect a picture through Photoshop may be worthless.

I was wondering how you make sure what you are working with in Photoshop is the same as the monitor outputs?

I have a Sony VAIO 1080p... (i think there)... Intel Centrino 2 processor. Windows Vista.

LCD monitors suck. I can't calibrate them. Not even with a SPYDER.

If I'm gonna spend $1300 on software, then I want a good CRT monitor.
Money is not an object. I just want a good CRT.

Any suggestions?

I have a dual monitor setup for my PC and in photoshop ONLY the color is completely different from one side to the other (attached). The left monitor is almost gray/muted, while the right monitor shows true color. This is only the case in photoshop and other adobe products... everything else shows true color on both sides. I had the monitors replaced so I know that's not the problem. I thought it might be a loose cable but wouldn't that cause the dull color all the time, not just in photoshop?

Does anyone have an idea of what might be wrong?

Hi Folks. I'm new to this forum and hope to get some advice for updating my video card before I install Windows 7. I ran Microsoft's upgrade advisor and was informed that my video card (ATI X1650) was not up to running Aero. I'd like to have that functionality but it is essential that I be able to have a card that runs dual DVI monitors, one of which, an Eizo ColorEdge is color-calibrated.

I'm not a gamer so that stuff is moot for me but the ability to maintain high resolution color-perfect monitors is critical for Photoshop apps (my main app).

With that background, what video cards do you think I should be considering?

A:Best PCI card for Aero and dual monitor Photoshop

You can run Vista driver 9.8 Catalyst for that card and have Aero.

ATI Catalyst? Legacy Display Driver

It should also accelerate Photoshop CS4.

My office just upgraded, and I can no longer use Windows XP. On this system, I was able to add a separate taskbar to facilitate quick access to commonly-browsed folder locations on our vast network, and another one expedited the launching of useful programs and lists. Each task on each taskbar was represented with a big custom icon to save eye strain. I had them installed in opposite vertical margins, and they were set on auto-hide to keep them out of the way when not being used. Just move your mouse pointer to the left or right margin, and BAM! Sorry for the cliche, but I really got used to the convenience of what I had set up, and I just don't think I can be as efficient without anything comparable.

Now there appears to be nothing comparable in the Windows 7 GUI, and it's making me sick with rage! I see only the option to put a "toolbar" on an existing "taskbar", and no option to create any additional taskbars! This cramps up your one-and-only taskbar, plus the tiny toolbar access buttons require way too much precision for anything that's supposed to be quick. When you've figured out how to bring up that ridiculous button, the list that it yields is small enough to cause painful eyestrain - nothing efficient, much less cool about this at all! I have seen customization options in other OS GUIs that may have resolved some of these issues, but I see none such in W7.

I have tried every google search string that I can think of, and found... Read more

When our website users click on an html attachment embedded on a web-page in IE9, the download manager will not display the "Open" option. It will only display "Save" and "Cancel" which our users don't like, having to save the
html document in a folder to open it. Whereas, when downloading attachments like pdf, word etc. all three options are displayed.

Is there any setting to tweak , which will display all the 3 options for HTML attachments as well?

A:IE9 download manager will not display "Open" option (only "Save" and "Cancel" is displayed) for downloading HTML documents.

As you know, the Open-Save-Cancel dialog box helps you prevent your computer from affecting by virus while downloading.
So I suggest you test to reset all zones to a lower level temporarily and then please attempt to download this html attachment again.

However, since you can normally download the other documents, I suspect there is some restriction in the website which you are trying to view. I recommend you to contact the administrator of that website if possible.
could you please send me the link of the website from where you are trying to download the html attachment?

I just updated to XP SP3 from SP2 via Windows Update and now whenever I start up my computer, it is under the account named "Administrator" though I had only ever used an account under my name (which was defined as computer administrator). This "Administrator" account has only a fraction of the software I have installed and the personalization settings aren't the same.

I can log off "Administrator" and log into my main account fine, but when I look in "User Accounts" in Control Panel, there is no account named "Administrator", only my main account (with the computer administrator subtext) and a grayed-out Guest account which is turned off. Everything else as far as I can tell functions fine.

I've read that there's a "hidden" Administrator account for Safe Mode or something like it... but I'm not booting into Safe Mode.

Has "Administrator" somehow become the default account? How do I stop this?

I'm using XP Pro.

Need help to resolve this long-standing mystery.
My Lenovo W530 laptop runs perfectly in both wired and wireless environments, at home as well as "on the road".

But when it is connected wired when fresh booting to Windows it always comes up with "multiple networks" showing as connected, but neither has Internet access. One network is truly my LAN, and the other shows as "unidentified network":

Network and Sharing Center shows both of these networks:

and both of these networks are associated with the Intel wired LAN ethernet adapter in my laptop:

A:Laptop wired connection starts with "multiple networks", no Internet

Well, prompted by my own request for help in this thread, I decided to do some additional research and searching on needing to delete an extraneous network.

Quite remarkably, I found this thread from back in 2010 in a networking forum asking specifically for help on "My Window 7 PC receives a double gateway from the DHCP server. Why?". The text of the question sounded essentially identical to my own problem:I have a windows 7 pc in a windows 2003 server environment. every now and then (about twice a day), the gateway setting is changed to and
Now, the setting is correct, but the is not correct. In fact, it blocks all network traffic.
Whereas my own problem saw this at immediately at boot time while this poster saw the symptom occur occasionally during the day, the actual problem description was effectively the same.
Well, reading the various responses suggesting solutions, there was one reply in particular which seemed eminently helpful and promising (from someone whose 13,900 posts in a networking forum suggests great knowledge and experience on the topic of solving networking mysteries). Sounded to me much like the standard "have you tried a complete power recycle" (i.e. pull the plug, wait 30-seconds, and plug it back in) suggestion for a problematic electronic component like a cable system DVR that you might get from the tech support phone CSR, as a "can't hurt, and can only help" good f...
