reset cmos password for Dell D510

Q: reset cmos password for Dell D510

Can someone help me, I need to reset a bios setup password

Preferred Solution: reset cmos password for Dell D510

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good luck, Dell laptops incorporate a special seperate security chip to prevent people from bypassing bios set up passowrd. the chip is not affected by the cmos being reset or cmos clearing programs. your best bet is to contact dell.

Leave the battery out for a while or sometimes there is a jumper to reset the cmos. Read your computer or motherboard manual to find the jumper.

You can't just pull the battery out and put it back in right away. Leave it out for a bit.

My rp5700 needs to have the bios upgraded to upgrade the 5700. The instructions in the manual on page 2 say:remove the power cord from the unit, move the reset jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pins 2 and 3. Leave for approx. 3 to 5 seconds. then replace jumper back on pins 1 and 2. apply power an hit F10. ,,,,,,,,,,   The machine still has a password on CMOS The factory procedure does not work. Is there a backdoor password to gain access? or what?

A:CMOS Password Reset

3-5 seconds? Not enough. Try popping out the CMOS battery (little CR2032 cell) while jumping the pins and leave it be for 10 minutes or longer. Then pop the battery back in, replace the jumper, and it should work.

I purchased a used HP ProBook 6440b that had a password set for access the bios or cmos.  I would like to clear or reset this password.  I installed .NET Framework and then some of the HP ProtectTools and all that accomplished to change the password for the Owner/User access not the Admin password to setup and it seems to  have set a password for starting up Windows 7 64 bit Professional even after a reinstall of the OS.  There are no error messages - after attempting to enter 3 times, i think, a messages says to hit the power button.

I am a property manager who manages some self-storage facilities. We recently had a few spaces go to auction and as a result the auction winners threw stuff they didn't want into the dumpster. I was emptying the trash from the office and noticed that someone had thrown a few laptops into the dumpster. As a tech nerd, I climbed into the dumpster and pulled the laptops from the garbage.
One of the laptops was a Dell laptop. I cleaned it up a bit and used one of my Dell laptop chargers to try and charge the battery overnight. Then, I hit the power button and hoped..... nada. Opened the back panel and immediately saw that it had no hard drive.... but the memory was still installed as well as the WIFI adapter. The screen was cracked but I had hope that it might still be usable once I could actually get the laptop to boot.
So, I pulled out one of my old SATA laptop hard drives, re-formatted it and installed it in the laptop.
Hit the power button and saw that I could not install Win10 from the USB port since the laptop had an admin password installed and of course, I had no idea what it was. So, I called Dell and gave them all the laptop info and my personal info and they gave me a code to enter which was supposed to disable or erase the unknown admin password and allow me to change the boot options to include the usb port.
The code does not work. The dell rep mentioned something about hitting the Shift and Control keys while I hit the enter key but that still doesn't... Read more

you can do a google on "repair station" they run a site which removes HDD passwords for a large and hefty price.

I have Dell Latitude 510 and one day it just didn't turn on. I know the battery is good and also the power jack because the laptop is charging, plus I have a latitude 610 which uses the same charger and battery so I know the battery and charger is good. But when I went and pressed the power button the power light on the hinge just turns on and off. Not blinking, it's like it's making contact but nothing comes up. Once in a great while the laptop will want to boot up but shuts down right away. I don't have a problem opening this laptop up, I have done it before to replace the fan(the fan is not the problem, the laptop work well after I replaced the fan)Any help will be most excellent.

It sounds like either a power supply problem or one with the motherboard.

Someone has asked me to find out why their Dell Latitude D510 will not recharge. They bought a new battery (from Dell) which ran for two hours, they pluged up the charger. I don't know much abot laptops, and I can't seem to find out about the power or recharging process of laptops. Do they have power suppies like PC's, is there something that need to be replaced (power supply ect.). Can anyone suggest a good sorce of information
wherte I can read up on these issues, thanks.

A:Dell Latitude D510 won't power on

It could be that your motherboard doesn't work anymore. Not that I'm a computer expert, but I have had 3 laptops not power on because of motherboard failures (and am currently trying to get data off of one of the hard disks).

Another possibility I have read about is if one or more fans broke. Some computers won't turn on due to a safety mechanism to prevent possible overheating. But I do believe it is your motherboard, you should try looking into that.

Can anyone give me a step by stel guide to replacing a Dell D510 CCFL bulb? I have a non-working screen on mine. I have already ordered a replacement inverter, but figured I would replace both at the same time. I get a red flicker of the screen when the laptop is turned on, and then I can see windows using a flashlight on the dark screen. Plugging in an external monitor works fine. I have the lcd screen out of the bezel and the inverter removed....just not sure where to go from there. Also, how can I be sure to order the correct bulb? I was going to take out the CCFL bulb and measure/compare before buying a new one on ebay but if there is another way, let me know!

Check out CCFLWarehouse.com. I bought tubes from them when I repaired my 40 inch TV last year.
They have step by step tutorials, and you can buy tubes or entire backlight assemblies.
Note - If you don't see Dell D510 on their website, try the LCD assembly manufacturer (Samsung is used in many Dells).

There is a well-known flaw of the Dell Latitude D510 motherboard. The power jack (part number DL111500) will break if you happen to trip over the cable or if you remove it in some other way without extreme caution. Very bad design. Dell should be ashamed!

This is what you need to get your machine up and running again:

- A Dell PR01X docking station (the battery will be charged from the underside of the machine regardless of the broken DL111500 power jack)
- An AC adapter PA10

There are in fact three versions of the Dell AC Adapter:
PA12: 65W (19.5V x 3.34A)
PA10: 90W (19.5V x 4.62A) Ö no itís not a misprint; PA10 is more powerful than PA12. Only Dell knows why.
PA13: 130W (19.5V x 6.67A)

The PR01X docking station needs a PA10 or a PA13 to work when the laptop is turned on. However, if you only have the standard PA12, the battery will be charged provided the laptop is turned off. If you turn it on, the Bios will tell you that the AC adapter cannot provide enough power and the laptop will not start up. In some way, the AC adapter identifies itself trough the docking station to the Bios of the machine.
You can probably by a PR01X at about 35 dollars and a PA10 at about 40 dollars. Thatís what I had to pay (February 2011). But in the US perhaps you might get it cheaper (bigger market).
Dell Latitude D510 is a piece of crap, but for 75 dollars I can now use it for yet another year in parallel with a much more powerful computer that Iíve built lately.
