I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I started encountering redirects from Bing search results. This does not occur very time, but about 50% of the time. Then I've started experiencing various svchost consuming all CPU after about 10 minutes of a reboot causing everything to freeze up. The PC also reboots every so often for no reason. Hello and welcome to the forums! My secret agent name on the forums is SweetTech (you can call me ST for short), it's a pleasure to meet you. Hi,

I got a "Internet Security 2010" on Dec 28, 2009. Use AVG, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Ad-Aware (all with the latest update) to clear up the mess. Now, both browser (IE 7 and firefox 3.5) both redirect search results to some bogus web site.

I have run several times using the software mentioned but was not able to find anything.

I've used HijackThis v2.0.2 to produce the following log.

My system Win XP sp3

I've attached the HijackThis log file. Please help!!!!

A:search results redirect (google and bing)

Hi,

Thank you all for posting your suggestions, especially for people working on this site to help others. I saw a post here that ran ComboFix to take care of the browser redirect problem. So, I download it and following the simple instructions. Low and behold, ComboFix was able to detect there was a rootkit running on my computer. After several scan and reboot, my computer is back and no more browser redirect.
I thank you again from the bottom of my heart!!!!

If BleepingComputer.com needs any help, please contact me and I will be more than happy to give my time back to serve the community.

Sometimes when a search result link is clicked a window is displayed with an animated graphic in green or orange that says redirect , then a page opens that is not the page from the link. Other times there is no animated graphic but the page that opens is not the one whose link was clicked on. Sometimes, there is a warning banner at the top of the browser window stating this site is not safe. Navigating back to the search engine and clicking on the same link opens the correct webpage. Some links lead directly to the correct webpage. Have scanned whole computer in normal mode with updated AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2012 and updated Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free, niether found any malware. The last malware detected and quaranteened by Malwarebytes on 7-19-12 was Trojan.Happili.
The computer may be running more slowly and the display might flicker every once in a while.

I'm just going to throw out as much info as I can think of. I run XP, ran defogger, then dds, but gmer crashes before the scan is complete. It gets to a certain point and crashes. The folder it gets hung up on is:

c:\documents and settings\myname\application data\mozilla\firefox\crash reports\pending (Ironic!)

Mainly this is just affecting searching right now, with a few pop ups, but it's getting worse so I need to get rid of this ASAP!

Both Firefox (v3.6.3) and IE 8 get redirected from the google and bing search pages. When I click on links they get redirected to other sites. Also, randomly the speakers start blaring advertisements. Task Manager shows instances of IE running in the background. Killing the IE process stops the ads from the speakers.I disabled using Defogger, then ran the DDS utility and am supplying the two logs. The GMER utility does not run to completion. It closes before I can save the logs. I saved a log in the middle of the scan and am attaching it. Not sure if it is useful. Additionally, I ran TDSSkiller and it indicated that I had a 'Driver "atapi" infected by TDSS rootkit!' but it could not cure the problem.I have also run MalwareBytes and Spybot Search and Destroy and both now provide clean scans but the browser redirect problem still exists. Please help.________________DDS.log:_______________DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Compaq_Administrator at 12:07:25.09 on Fri 04/30/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.958.295 [GMT -4:00]AV: Windows Live OneCare *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {427ADFC3-B354-4A51-BE34-A9D4218E45C4}FW: Windows Live OneCare Firewall *enabled* {A3899D22-27E6-4A7E-AE4E-2C106646DAAB}============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\Program Files... Hello pn123 Welcome to the BC HijackThis Log and Analysis forum. I will be assisting you in cleaning up your system.I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process. In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond the your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine. Please keep in mind that we have a large backlog of users just like yourself waiting to be helped so try to be as timely as possible in your replies. A day or two ago I picked up something that redirects the search sites results to ad sites. This happens in IE and Firefox. It seems to happen with the results from google, yahoo and Bing. I havent really tried any other search engines. I have AVG free installed, and the spybot resident. I have run MalwareBytes, Spybot and although they found some tracking cookies and such, have not fixed the issue. I d/l'ed and installed HitMan Pro 3.5 as others have had luck with Rootkits with that, and it did report finding a rootkit in firefox.exe and quarantined it, removing firefox. It runs cleannow too, but the redirection remains.Attached are le logs from the Preperation guide.I really appreciate any help you can give me, thanl you so very much.DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Philipvw at 17:53:37.68 on Sun 08/15/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_14Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.1023.514 [GMT -4:00]AV: AVG Anti-Virus Free *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {17DDD097-36FF-435F-9E1B-52D74245D6BF}============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcssvchost.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgchsvx.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgrsx.exesvchost.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgcsrvx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exesvchost.exeC:&... Hello.

For the past several days whenever I would use google, yahoo, or bing, my search results are redirected through a website called "searchingandclick44.com" and the original search terms are then plugged into several other websites.
I'm not completely sure that this is connected to it, but at the same time this started happening I became unable to use Gmail, as my browser (Both IE and Firefox) started saying "There is a problem with this website's security certificate." The same thing would happen when I used other websites that required the use of Gmail, such as signing into Youtube.
Occasionally when using the search toolbar to the right of my address bar with google, it will state that the 302 has moved and will give me a link.

I have tried to use MalwareBytes, but it will not pick up the problem, even after updating the program.
I tried to use gmer to see if I could find anything, but that didn't work either, because whenever I open it, it says, "C:\Windows\system32\config\system: The system cannot find the file specified." And the only things that can be checked afterwards are Services, Registry, Files, and ADS.

I use Windows 7, IE 8, and Firefox 3.5.11

I'd like to thank you in advance, and I look forward to you're help.
Ivan the Submissive.

Hello,

Today while browsing my AGV notified me that it caught a threat and moved it to the virus vault. Soon after I began having redirects in my Bing search results. I was redirected to Scour the first time and then a couple of other sites during later attempts. I did not get the name of those sites because I hit the back button as quickly as I could. I attempted removal instructions found on the net to no avail. I used rkill, tdsskiller, and scanned with Malewarebytes and AGV. Both found nothing and I'm still getting redirects.

Thank you for the help!

Hi.

I've been working with Jeff over in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware and Malware forum and we've come to a point where he feels that the problem is possibly a hardware software problem of some sort.

Until a couple weeks ago, my I.E. search engine was Google and I had no problem opening links.  However, somehow I was hacked and they managed to corrupt my Kasperky Pure 3 program as well as my IoBits Advanced System Care Pro, well still acting as if both were updating and running as they should.  Then I discovered my firewall was down, and the programs were not running according to Windows Security.  From there, I couldn't turn on Windows Firewall or Windows Defender and Windows Update had been shut down.

Kaspersky worked with me and we discovered that the program had indeed been corrupted so using another computer and cd which I burned, I installed a new Kaspersky Pure 3 program.  Windows Security now showed Kaspersky as the firewall, virus protection and spyware/malware protection.  I had to turn Windows Update back on.

When I turned Windows Update back on, it did some updates to I.E.  I didn't think anything of it as I don't use I.E. except for the very rare occasion.

When finalizing our troubleshooting, it was recommended that I check settings in I.E. to be sure they were set properly.  When I opened I.E. all of a sudden it kept trying to redirect from the homepage. I closed the browser, opened it again with... Read more

I would appreciate any advice on how to fix this..My computer caught a virus and screwed up the admin account. I managed to get that bug removed. Since then, I have problems when I click the results from search engines. When I click search results, I get sent to different sites. I typically use Google Chrome but it's happened on Bing as well. For example, I did a google search on "virus removal". I've only just got Win7 so am still finding my way round but there's one annoying thing I haven't been able to sort in FF. Google refuses to open my search results in a new tab. Instead it opens on my home page. There's no option then to click the back button (it's greyed out) to return to my home page so I have to click the home button instead. This is most annoying since I have two home pages and each time they both appear and I end up having several pages of each.

I've been into Google Settings and checked the box that makes the search results open in a new browser window but either the preferences won't hold or Google ignores the command.

Can anyone help please?

I've upgraded my computer from Windows 8 (factory-installed) to 8.1 via the online download. I then migrated the partitions to a new SSD via Macrium; I migrated all partitions except my Data (D: ) partition since the SSD wasn't large enough to hold it, and expanded the Windows (C: ) partition to fill the extra space on the SSD.

The OS seems to work in all but one respect: when I search for a setting or administrative tool (by typing while at the Start screen), I frequently get search results that are non-functional, along with the fully-functional ones. When a search result is non-functional, left-clicking on it does nothing (nothing launches, the search results remain displayed, etc.), and right-clicking on it also does nothing (no context menu with options such as "Pin To Start Menu").

I've discovered that some of the non-functional results can be launched by searching for them within Control Panel (e.g. Display Settings, Indexing Options, Create And Format Hard Drive Partitions, etc.), so the underlying OS features appear to be alive and well, but launching them from the Search charm appears to be failing.

I've tried running sfc /scannow and there were no integrity violations found. I've also tried rebuilding the search indices via Indexing Options (launched by searching Control Panel), but saw no change in behavior afterwards.

I also found this forum thread with apparently the same problem, but no solution was given.

How can I fix this problem?

When I search for some thing in my PC & get a long list of results then click on one, it might not be the one I want so have to go back & retype & start over. Is there someway to keep the list of results open so I can pick different ones? It seems like XP worked that way??

Or is there a better way to search than from the search window at 'Start'?

Thanks.

Hi all,

So basically, my search is just acting really wonky on Windows 10. If I search for an app or desktop program, it shows up and I press enter or click it, and it opens just fine. But, if I search for a setting, say "Windows Update" or "Bluetooth", etc. (basically anything in the new "settings" metro app), the result appears, but I can't actually open it from the search window, clicking or pressing enter does nothing.

See sreenshots:

Note that I can still access the "Settings" app itself just fine, but when I search for an individual setting with Cortana, it shows up in results, but I can't open it.

EDIT: I thought it would be a good idea to add, I have 2 other computers also using Windows 10, and they can open search results completely fine... it only happens on this one computer.
If you need system specs I can provide.

Thanks

I'm having an unusual problem with IE6. I'm trying to do a web search, so I click the search symbol in the top tool bar. My screen splits into 2 windows as it should. I enter what I'm searching for in the dialog box in the left window and click go. My search results come up as they should, but when I click on any of them, nothing happens. When I hover over the URL's, my mouse pointer switches to the hand shaped symbol, and info is displayed on the bottom bar, but nothing will open, or even try to open. I tried MSN, Yahoo, and Lycos as default search engines. Also ran a complete virus and spyware scan and found no problems. Links open OK for me from websites, and I can even go to next and previous results of the search. Search results are the only thing that won't open. Does anyone know what may be causing this problem, and how to solve it? Thanks

Hi all

I have two end users at our company working at a remote site.
They connect to our network via a VPN connection which uses a US Robotics ADSL router.

They can access network resources just fine. They can also access external website fine.

However, if they do a search, for example from google, they click on any of the results but IE7 displays a blank "Page cannot be found".

When they are located at our main office in London it works fine.
Therefore, I'm convinced its a network issue.

Troubleshooting done:

1. Checked for spyware and disk errors - none found
2. Checked TCP/IP settings, all good.
3. Flushed the DNS.
4. Checked that the Windows firewall is off.
5. Reset IE7 settings.

Any suggestions please?

A:Cannot open search engine results/webpages

Hi,

I was really tired the other day, had a popup on screen to insatall flash player! I clicked yes, and this didgy looking installer ran, Oh dear. Since then randomly if I do a google search, then click the link (in IE8) i get a new window with bizsearch in the address bar, then a orange arrow graphic on screen in the new window, then the page link from google, or a random link. If i close the new window, and click again sometimes it goes straight to the real page, other times it redirects!

Anyways here is my HJT log: Thanks in advance.

I ran malwarebytes anti-malware and it didn't find anything.

not open up any of the listed results.
When i click on any of the listed search results, the next page just goes blank, it shows "Done" down bottom left like always, and the address bar up top reverts back to google.com
I've cleared cookies & cache several times with no luck.
I'm using IE8 & windows xp.
I did load google chrome & it seems to work ok on that browser.
But i prefer IE8 & i think i'm infected.

Hello all! Many thanks for your help with various issues (found from lurking) . I have an issue that I cannot seem to find an answer to with IE10. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium ( I really miss GPEDIT!)

Whenever I search for something in Google. I can click on the result I want to view, it will redirect me (within the same tab) to whatever was in the search I clicked on. As I surf... I will notice a tab has opened with a different result from that search, that I didn't even click on. I do not see when this happens, I just look up and there is an additional tab. This is most noticeable when I search by images.

I have ran Malwarebytes, Norton, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot, along with various root kits.. all show nothing. I have ran them in Safe Mode and regular in Full, Quick and Memory modes.

I'm at a total loss. I really doubt that a new tab would open by itself with a result (even though not clicked on) of a search I have done. It just seems that if it were infected it would be redirected to something off the wall or a website of some kind.

I've seen similar post with those using Firefox, but nothing that seems to be with IE.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance!

A:Results from google search will randomly open tabs

AdwCleaner from the Bleeping Computer site would be my next choice.

Hi, I recently noticed some strange behavior in my computer so I scanned with Malwarebytes and found some infections, cleaned them out and all seems good...except that some of my Google search results will bring up a blank white page (also, if related, in the bar that appears at the bottom of Firefox, it will show the URL I am going to at first, and then change to a few random url's that seem like advertizing, though I never actually see those url's as the page stays white). I also have noticed occasional pop-ups that don't seem like advertizing from the website I am on at the time, and more like programed random pop-ups.Here is my Hijack This log:

Hi all,

I'm really desperate, so hopefully someone has the answer for me. The problem began with Google that redirected to some weird (search) sites. So I ran every Spyware/malware/virus there is on the net (almost..) and not even one did found anything. Also ran rootkit tdsskiller but nothing. After all the tries there are some things changed:

It does not redirect anymore but:

- In chrome, google often does not show results, not after pressing enter or pushing the searchglass. Nothing. It keeps saying that Google Dynamics is not available. Even when I put settings to 'Always use Google dynamics searching'. It changes back automatically.

- In chrome google I can't open Ad links and sometimes no links out of the results. Nothing shows up when I click it, just blank white page.

- I had the same issues in IE, but it seems to work fine actually now.. not sure for how long.

- I can't run Microsoft Security Essentials and I cannot enable Windows Security Center. Although I did run this in Safe mode, did not found anything.

So after all the scans and programs I run, I tried Combofix but nothing changed. I will run it again for the log if someone needs it.

Please help me, thanks in advance.

I got infected after downloading a torrent movie avi file and when I went to play it, window media player open saying it can't play the file, not correct codec. Can you not decompile the AVI file to look at the source code to see what exactly it is doing. I try using various AV programs malware bytes(did find some infections), Norten Internet Security, PCTools Spware Doctor (found infections, but I did not want to pay to remove then and not solve the problem.) Then some how after I ended up with the SYSTEM DEFENDER malware (which really messed up my system, it prevented my from running my other AV programs), but I found a way to remove it. I am so fxxxxxx MAD right now. I cannot post a RootRepeal log as it freezes after a while running, it shows a empty popup window (WTF), when I click on it RootRepeal shuts down. I then decided to search using yahoo and whenever I click a search result i get redirected to another site. Every time it does it a ip address pops up and then it goes to another site. Oh and I forgot to mention like 4 days prior to all of this avg couldn't update and is still unable to. I should also tell you I'm unable to access microsoft's windows update page everytime I go there it brings me to google search page.

I have a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 and no third party firewall.

AVG scan is clean. Malwarebytes scan is clean. Ccleaner has been run. I have reset IE 8 settings to default. I have flushed the DNS. I have run HiJackThis and don't see any problems. I have checked the host file and there are no strange entries.

I need to know what to try next. Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello everyone,

Hope someone will help me solve this mystery.

So, I'm having a problem with my pc HP Notebook recently bought and upgraded to Windows 10 lately.
So the problem is different depending on whether or not wifi is turned on.

I'll explain : when wifi is turned on, Google Chrome just opens by itself  and opens a tab at the following address:

https://www.bing.com/search?q=como+obtenho+ajuda+no+windows+10&filters=guid:%22e9b63ecd-844e-4887-9d71-28a33ed9d5fc%22%20lang:%22pt-pt%22&form=S00028

It's basically the bing search results page for the search  "get help in windows 10".
And then, another identical tab will open, then another over and over and over and over again.
If I close Google Chrome it opens again by itself and starts opening multiple identical tabs again.
It will do this until the machine crashes.

The only way to stop it is by turning wifi off.

BUT

With wifi off, it's another problem...

The Windows 10 "Get Started" guide opens on the page "GET CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET"

I close it opens again over and over again.
If I click another window, it quickly reverts back, on and on in a loop.

The computer really can't be used both ways.

Please Help!

Hi,

Search results from Google, Yahoo and Bing are being re-directed to other sites. It seems like the first result I click on is OK, but if I back-arrow back to the results and select another it is redirected to random sites. Your assistance is appreciated. Here is the log:
