Lenovo Y40-70; The Admin password no longer works ...

Q: Lenovo Y40-70; The Admin password no longer works ...

I recently updated my BIOS from 99CN24WW to 99CN28WW and experienced some changes in my system, specifically the passwords. I can no longer access administrative options in BIOS; it?s as if the user password and admin password have switched. The admin password I enter allows me to boot the computer up, and enter BIOS, but all of the options are greyed out, safe boot is disabled, and the change admin password option is missing. I can change the user password, but that doesn?t help. The HDD passwords were switched as well, but those both seem to be working, they?ve just been switched. I?ve read that it might be possible to clear that password by resetting whats stored in CMOS memory. So I tried removing the RTC battery for some time, but that only reset the system time. I learned that theres some dedicated non-volatile memory that the BIOS is stored on. On desktops there are usually some jumpers that can help to reset these passwords, and I have a friend who helped me identify the short pads that clear CMOS and ME (which I assume is memory). Before going that route, I wanted to see if there was anything lenovo could help me with. Even just confirming if I am looking at the correct short pads would be helpful. I'm willing to try flashing my BIOS again to the previous version if it will help, but I don't have a backup of that ROM. If necessary I can provide proof of purchase, ID, and whatever else you may need. (Assuming lenovo tech's read this forum)

Preferred Solution: Lenovo Y40-70; The Admin password no longer works ...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This may be due to a failing hard drive, but is there any way to fix this for now? I read that I need a password recovery disk, but I'm wondering how one gets such a disk.

System manufacturer and model?

If you think that the hard drive is failing, I suggest running the appropriate hard drive diagnostic to confirm/refute the possibility.

Jardy,I found this somewhere, sometime. I do not remember where and when, but maybe it is of any help for you:Quote: > The first thing which you check if you forget your login password: When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forgotten your user account password then try this:Start system and when you See Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+Alt+Delete keys twice and it?ll show the classic login box. Now type ?Administrator? (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log into Windows. Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".The same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in the login screen. < Unquote.Kind reagds | WaWa

hi all,

Got up this morning and answered my emails...no problems. Got on this afternoon and got a message saying that my password was invalid. I even went to my ISP's website and tried to login there and got the same message. How could my password have been changed? I wrote them a letter (email seems to send alright...just cannot receive it)....but am not sure they will even get it. Any ideas?

I'm not expecting any but I thought I'd throw it out here anyways incase someone has had some experience with this previously.

So, a while back I had a problem on the Windows 10 Home Edition where it would not let me change my lock screen. Since I didn't have the pro edition, I couldn't change the policy in the registry editor because of a lack of one, so I transferred all my files to a local account. I then had the problem of programs asking me to enter my admin password every time I wanted to access certain protected programs, so I disabled the admin password so this would no longer happen. I then deleted the account which was considered the program and went on with my normal business on my PC.
Later, I restarted my PC, and when I went to login, it said my password was incorrect for my local account. I then went into my boot options, opened command prompt in safe mode and changed my admin password. I then restarted my PC and now I don't even have the option to login at all, coming up with the error message "Your account has been disabled. Please see your system administrator." Now many people have encountered this problem and it is usually fixed by holding shift and pressing restart to access boot options, but I cannot do this. Every time I press OK to go back to the lock screen, it instantly goes back to the administrator message, meaning I can't boot anything. I planned on doing a complete reinstall of Windows 10 using a bootable usb iso, but since I can't boot it, this isn't possible, unless I'm missing something such as a key allowing me to launch the boot options from launch, althoug... Hi, I've previously set my Windows 8 machine to auto logon without entering my password.

But since then, I've changed the password for the account via hotmail, and now, whenever I turn on my machine it fails to logon with an error that my password is incorrect.

How do I change the stored password to my new password so that it will auto logon again?

Thanks in advance.

The main (and only account) I have been using since the first beta came out had administrator privileges.

Today when I booted up I noticed that my account could no longer do things that are associated with an admin account, such as installing certain programs and writing to certain folders.

I created another account with admin rights and that account has the exact same problem. I tried removing the admin status on my account and putting it back on but that did not work.

Anyone else have this problem or have any advice on how to get my account seen as an admin account?

Hi Yet again, Windows is frustratingly taking up all of my time and I have tried everything google has to offer to try and fix it but it seems like no one has screwed up as much as I have on whatever forum. Let me explain the problem: I'm trying to set my account to administrator because I can't install programs, change account settings, make any changes through CMD without getting the system error 5 access denied message and I can't set the administrator account through CMD either. I also don't have the permission to change anything in regedit and I can't even reset my pc because it requires an administrator password which I don't have, is not "nothing" nor is it administrator or admin or password and I can't change it through cmd either. I can't even access the administrator account because it is disabled and even with an elevated cmd I can't activate the "hidden" administrator account. I've ran malwarebytes and superantispyware and I am now looking for the Gandalf of all Geeks to help me solve this problem. I'd immensely appreciate it!

The firm in which I work has a Lenovo PC with Windows 10 installed. There are two user profiles on the computer, the admin and another normal account without administration rights. We have only the password of the account without administrator rights.

The network administrator had left the company surprisingly in without giving the administrator password of the PC and we cannot contact him anymore.

Now we want to install another programme and we cannot do this without an administrator account.

I disabled secure boot and have tried to boot the PC with an Linux USB Stick, but it do not boot from the stick.

Any suggestion how I either can reset the password of the administrator account or create an new account with administrator rights.

A:Windows 10 admin password reset or new account with admin rights

Although there may be techniques to recover a lost password it is forum policy that we do not discuss these here - your best bet would be to visit a local security specialist and get them to recover/reset it for you - and a change to the policy for the replacement admin may be a good idea, I always wrote a list of all passwords and stored it with the Managing Director and also in a fireproof safe

I am admin ( WIN 7 Pro 64 computer 4 years old): In admin user default account, any and ALL open, and .exe functions denied.

CMD right click 'run as admin' (net user admin etc.) has no effect. Checking all folders I show FULL permission. Right click 'run as admin' has no effect on any file.

Created new USER with ADMIN functions and all works in that account.

Q: How can I trouble shoot my normal ADMIN account (it has all of my 1000s of folders, programs etc.)
Q: Or how can I transfer all of my doc to my new user internally? (Without backup to external drive etc)

This happened after a Microsoft standard update weeks ago. I tried restore, but restore fails. By now I have done much on the computer and restore not an option.
I have not been able to open or run any program files.

Any help I would be grateful!

A:Admin User Error5. CMD solutions failed. New User with ADMIN works

Wow. 2 days and not a single suggestion or reply?

Is this a really a simple common error? Is that why no replies? Or is there no help for it?

I searched the forums for hours over 2 days reading multiple posts and possible solutions and came up empty. Nothing applicable to my situation.

I have tried:
1. System restore. It always fails, even in SAFE mode or REPAIR mode.
2. Run as administrator (Both from right click and from CMD)
3. Sharing all folders (Although this ADMIN account has all privileges/permissions as it is anyway)
This created a 2nd ADMIN account. Don't know why.
4. Reset all privileges back to default settings.

Have not tried to re-install windows as I don't have a copy of Win 7. Plus I would like to avoid the reality of reinstalling so many programs and files.

Right now when the Original Admin user tries to run a .exe, I get a "Setup was unable to create the directory "...etc..." Error 5 access denied.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. It would at least get me moving trying some things. Thank you.

jeez, I seem to be having problem after problem with Windows 7 nowadays.

Somehow, I managed to make my account, the one and only account on this computer, not an administrator. That's BAD! I can't get admin rights back since I'm technically a "guest" now and don't have any actual privileges.

Any idea how I can get admin access back? Basically I did the thing about unchecking "require users to enter a password" so that I wouldn't need to keep clicking on my name, but apparently that turned me into a guest, which just screwed up everything. HELP!

A:HELP: I'm no longer an admin!

Hello DrfSuperCenter,

You might see if you are able to boot to Safe Mode into the built-in Administrator account to then hopefully be able to change your default user account's type back to an administrator account. Without a administrator account available, you should boot into Safe Mode already logged on as the built-in Administrator.

Hope this helps,

Hey guys I need some help yesterday I got a nasty virus. mcafee said it killed it but I am still having problems. Here is the problem MY main account thinks it's not an admin when it. I even turned on the hidden admin profile and no luck. The error I get is I am not an admin mainly. On both accounts. I also can't open Firefox (it just crashes) I can't run a system restore because It says I am not an admin and it needs to be turned on by an admin. I tried to run spybot but every time it installs it something deletes it and same with hijack this. Now before the problems started I did a windows back up of the computer (windows 7 back up) it's running now. So I am hoping this fixes the problem. If not what is plan B. I know the last plan is F-DISK and I really don't wanna do that if I can avoid it. Please any help would be great.

that restore didn't fix anything. ANd now another problem If I install any anti-spyware progies something deletes them they run for about 10 seconds then get deleted. Mcafee is not finding any virus's what's up?

i am the lone user on a laptop running w7hp. i have my one, default, ID which supposedly has admin privileges, yet windows update has suddenly decided otherwise. starting around late july.

right-click "run as admin" leads to the same "must be admin" denial for me. and "allow all users" is checked, in any case. UAC set to "never notify".

unlike others in some similar threads, i have NO PROBLEMS that i know of with regedit, cmd prompt, HDD access or anything else. just windows updates!

based on some hints elsewhere, i tried THIS: Enable the (Hidden) Administrator Account on Windows 7, 8, or 10

to no avail. admin acct is somehow not authorized (!) to switch my default ID to admin as well. i guess. i dunno. it says the ID is admin, but then under "change acct type" it indicates "standard user" with the option for "administrator" nonfunctional. huh? admin up top but NON-admin 3 inches below????

[same thing if i try to do it directly inside said ID in the first place, btw]

ok, forget about upgrading the default ID; i'll just stay in the real/formerly hidden admin acct and run updates from there. no dice. same popup telling me must be admin. ditto (lastly) if i do it with "run as administrator".

so...admin running as double-admin is not admin enuf for wupdates. what gives?

I have multiple issues. But firstly,

My computer started running slow the other night rather spontaneously. I came home, tried to go online, and my computer locked up. I think. Sometimes it seems like my computer locks up when Microsoft update is running but I'm unaware. Sure enough, the next day Microsoft updates installed auto.

Anyhow, I manually turned off my computer when it appeared to lock up during my attempt to go online. The next day, while hooked up to the ethernet but not online, I encountered more freezing. I ran a defrag for the heck of it (actually I ran about 5 of them since my stupid hard drive does not have enough space to run defrag but I run it anyway).

After that I went online no probs. I even gamed online alittle. No probs. But now when I turn on computer the desktop icons take a full minute or more to pop up. And after they do finally come up my screen will go black for about 3 or 4 seconds. It might even flash black a couple of times. And sometimes it's slow to go from one part of the computer to another.

And after running defrag that morning, just afew hours later I find myself without admin rights to run defrag or even add/remove programs, etc.

There are other odd thing going on. But this is a start. Can you help me understand what's going on?

I bought a laptop about a year ago. Shortly after buying it, we lost the password before making a backup disk. I couldn't change the password, we run Windows 7, without the old password. Luckily, or so we think, we have one of those laptops that has a fingerprint scanner so I have been able to log on using my fingerprint as a password. However, I can't believe that I am locked out of changing the passwords on this computer.

I have learned my lesson! Always back it up first! But for now, I need some help. I am also a little worried that I may have been hacked into. A friend said that if your password all of a sudden doesn't work, that is a sign of a hacker. That is what it felt like happened to me. I swear I thought I had the password right, then all of a sudden it stops working.

Thanks so much-Bill

I'm not sure what happened, but this is a new one for me.

I was using my mother's laptop and decided to create a new user account for myself. I thought this would be a way of avoiding her complaints and worries of me "messing something up" on her account, i.e., trying to improve her usage of the computer. That's a story for another day.

After logging out of my account, I went to log back into hers and found the icon for my account and a blank "other user" icon. I attempted to enter her username (she had no password, at least not that she recalls) but the account pic that shows up in User Accounts doesn't show up and I was unable to log back into her account.

I've tried changing my account status and hers, but nothing works.

Thanks for any help you can give!

For a couple years now I've connected my dell notebook computer with windows vista to my samsung tv display. Then the other night, all of a sudden while watching a movie, it lost connection and I haven't been able to get it back up since.

My computer actually detects the TV. I know this because I go into NVIDIA command center to select the different options. I still get nothing displayed on the TV when I select mirror or extend.

I've tried everything within display settings. I've also updated my NVIDIA driver. I've looked into the device manager and system restore (can't restore because all restore points are after the date this problem occurred). Still doesn't work. I know its not the TV or the VGA cable because a different dell laptop works fine with it. Its just plug and play (like mine use to be).

I'm not sure what else to try except a complete windows re-install (definitely hoping to avoid that!) Help. Thanks!

A:vga out to tv no longer works

I don't have any ideas at the moment except to say that I doubt this is a problem that would be solved by a reinstallation, so that may be a painful waste of time. Better do some more investigating first.

Did it just drop off immediately, or were there any "symptoms" at all?

Thoroughly check out the TV end, too, and make sure some "input" setting didn't get changed by a random press of a remote button.

Today water spilt on top of my case and I believe it got inside of the case. After cleaning up the mess, I tried to start my computer. It started fine so I had a sigh of relief. When I tried to connect to a web page, it would not load. It would say network took too long to respond. I can still connect to my router page. The network icon in my tray (the 2 computers) look fine. I then tried to move the computer to my router and connect it with a different cable, same issue. I tried to directly connect the modem to the computer and it said limited or no connectivity.

I thought the on-board LAN got fried from the water, so I went out and bought a lan card for a PCI slot. I have the same issues with this.

Any idea what is causing this? Is this a motherboard short? Do I need a new motherboard entirely?

I'm just really confused as to how it still starts up if it is a short and why I can still access the router page. I hope someone can help me, thanks a lot!
