Windows Media Player 11 - Stream videos from media sharing??

Q: Windows Media Player 11 - Stream videos from media sharing??

Hello all,

I have my main media desktop in the living room setup to share the meda on the "E:" drive. On my Windows 7 laptop using WMP12 i am able to find the shared media library and access for playback. However I am having a difficult time trying to do the same on my other desktop in my room running XP WMP11. I cant seem to find out how to stream the media files from the living room desktop via the WMP11? is this even possible, or is there a software i could use to do this if WMP11 does not support it? i tried XBMC but i keep receiving playback error. I wish there was a WMP12 for XP to make things easier but unfortunately there isnt

please help..

Preferred Solution: Windows Media Player 11 - Stream videos from media sharing??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Windows Vista
Gateway computer

I like to download videos/trailers on the internet.

My default player is Microsoft Windows Media Player.

I would go to websites to watch videos. When I would click a link for the video (usually a WMV file), my Microsoft Windows Media Player would open up, then a few seconds after buffering, the video would start to play. While the video was playing, I could click to go forward, the video would pause (buffering), then play again. Basically, the video was streaming off of the internet.

I found a AVI file, but when I would play it, there was audio, but no video. So I downloaded an AVI player (GOM Media Player, http://download.cnet.com/GOM-Media-P...html?tag=mncol). I installed this new player to watch AVI videos. After I intalled the program, all of my WMV videos on my computer were using the new player. I clicked on a WMV file (from my computer) and made my Microsoft Windows Media Player be the default video player for WMV files and the GOM Media Player for my AVI files.

Then the problem started........

Now when I go to websites with links for streaming WMV files, the entire file downloads, then the media player opens up to play the video. I can't stream videos anymore.

Here is the website that I would go to to play/stream wmv files....... http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/media_movies.htm

I tried the help that came with the Microsoft Windows Media Player, but I couldn't figure it out. I wanted to uninstall the player ... Read more

Media Player 12 Not Sharing Stream

Long story short I just want to connect my Windows Media Player/Center to my Xbox 360.

I can't enable streaming from the Media Player. It wont show the button or option at all.
I have also tried to open homegroup and turning on media sharing and it wont turn on. The button turns grey for a moment then it goes back to saying "Turn on media streaming".

From the Windows Media Center I can get some kind of connectivity to the Xbox, but its very brief. Usually when I go to set up the extender it gets to building media library on the "Windows Media Center" then the "Xbox Windows Media Center" gives a failed to connect, retry or cancel.

If I take a peek into the network from the explorer the media devices shows Xbox 360 Media Extender and it disappears within 3 seconds also another that says Xbox 360 which stays.

I have tried going into services.msc and making sure UPnP, SSDP, Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service are enabled. I also disabled Windows Media Player/Center from the windows defaults to try and reinstall it.

I want want to get homegroup back to this state.

and not this

Sorry for the pic sizes.

I also cannot turn on streaming. When I press the turn on streaming button, Nothing happens. Does having indexing and libraries disabled have anything to do with this?

Every since January 4th of this year, I have been trying to fix a very annoying issue with windows media player.
How It Started
Back in January my dad's computer constantly kept freezing over and over due to him having way to many podcast on his computer. I'm the only one who knew how to fix it from crashing and so I tried to delete some of the memory off the computer, however when
the memory was low I noticed that a few programs (including media player) were not functioning correctly. I was able to fix them but then I noticed that media player's entire library was missing, which made me think if I restarted the computer, it would fix
it. Sadly it didn't but I was able to find tutorials on how to restore the library back to MP, but the thing is before I attempted that, I went into media player with administrator on in hopes it would make a change. Of course it didn't but now there's a issue
that I face and I keep running into dead ends. Every single time I try to turn on media sharing in the WMP library, when I check both options and then click ok it doesn't do anything. No matter how many times I try to press it, nothing happens and also what
I find strange is that the ok button has a administrator prompt shield on it now. Kind of like it's trying to ask for permission but fails before it can do that.
The solutions I have tried
I have tried dozens of solutions and yet none of them fix the issue. I tried using regedit.exe and tried fixing it's registry but that di... Read more

Well, I'm not sure what to do here. Up until a few days ago I was sharing my media with all computers on my network on my wireless router.

Now when I log into windows and open WMP 11 it says that I am no longer sharing media, would you like to turn on sharing? So I say yes and confirm to share my media to all devices on my network, mainly my PS3.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it (well it actually just reverted back). I also checked to make sure that Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is set to automatic in Admin tools. And also checked windows firewall that it allows the service.

So I am at a loss here, I don't know how to get my media sharing capabilites back. I know its not my PS3, as I am sharing media from my laptop right now. Any suggestions?

Thanks High

PS3 and Vista Sharing Sorted
Found it. Disabled IPSEC Services and rebooted my router and hey presto media sharing in vista with PS3. Although I had disabled this before and restarted my computer I had not rebooted the router (ie turned it off and on again). This was the important thing on my set up and I missed it.

Funny thing is IPSEC Services do not have to be disabled in XP.

Hope this helps someone.

This actually worked for my Windows XP, I am now able to share, but is this a safe thing to have turned off?

On my XP machine i have AVG antivirus with no firewall installed. It is connect to the Linksys wirelessly - bu so is my roomates laptop.

On both machines i have the latest .net framwork installed and on the xp machine i installed windows media connect.

I cant figure it out, i think it is a software problem and not a physical network problem.

I am using XP and have been trying to get my media to share to my xbox 360 and at first the system said I had an ip address issue, even though I could connect to the internet. Now however, it won't find the pc. Upon going to Window Media Player's library/media sharing section, I am prompted with this message: Media sharing has been turned off because a required Windows setting or component has changed. I have tried all of the obvious quick fixes and nothing works, does anyone have any suggestions as Microsoft is less than helpful telling me something, somewhere has changed? Thank you.

I'm trying to share my windows media player library that is on my win 7 pc with my xp laptop.

I can navigate from my laptop to folders on my win 7 pc and play files that way but I'm trying to get the library option working.

Both computers are in the same workgroup and are both visable in the same workgroup from my xp laptop. However if I go into network on my win7 pc I can see the laptop in the computer section but not in the media device section.

When i then go into the sharing options on the win7 windows media player i can not see the xp laptop so I can't allow sharing.

I guess the problem is that my xp laptop is only showing up as a computer and not a media device? anyone know why this is?

I have turned of my firewall to check that and it has no effect.

A:media sharing in windows media player 11

You can't share Library's with any computer other than Windows 7. Library sharing can only work if all the machines in the LAN are Windows 7. Although you should be able to stream and share your music using Workgroups.

You should be able to share the WMP files by making these adjustments. Click on more media options to allow for media sharing with your XP machine.

Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of organising a playlist of music videos for my works Christmas Party. This year I want to do something really special in the form of streaming the music videos from one (host) computer to several (guest) computers using VLC Media Player.

Here is a link to the method that I am using to Stream music videos -

I have decided on the HTTP method of streaming because this appears to be relatively simple to setup, and effective for reaching multiple clients.

However immediately I have noticed a number of caveats -

1). Media doesn't always play at the same time on all clients. I would like all music videos to play in sync (ignoring potential network 'lag' issues)

2). VLC gets stuck with the Playlist of music videos that I have created; it plays the first music video on each of the clients, but once the first music video comes to an end VLC stops playing altogether.

* In some instances it just stops, and provides no on screen messages
** In other instances it pops up a box which I have come to believe is related to missing codecs (even though the 'server' and all 'clients' have exactly the same codec packs installed).

I am looking for some tips on the optimum way to stream music videos (in a variety of formats, e.g.: avi, flv, mpg, mpeg). Ideally I need to setup several hours of music videos and just hit the 'play button&... Read more

Hi i just bought a new computer with Vista. However when i try to preview .MP3 files from emusic they don't stream in windows media player like they did on my old computer. Instead it gives me the option to save them (which is really annoying) and then open them and subsequently delete them before i purchase music. I've also noticed this with video files as well. I was wondering if there is a way to make it so they would just open in media player and stream so i don't have to deal with saving them then going and deleting them. Thanks in advance.

I have always watched NASA TV on WMP, and it has always had a long delay (30-45 seconds). I played the exact same stream in VideoLAN and noticed that WMP is around 30 seconds behind WMP. Does WMP player cache the stream for this long? Is there any way to stop it, so that it plays the stream without the delay?

Go to the Reducing the Player Buffer section, try it and see if that helps.

I'm following the steps from here:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...sharemedia.aspxBut when I get to the part, "Choose Which Devices to Share Your Media With", nothing shows up in the list of devices. I can check the Netgear router (Netgear WPNT834 RangeMax 240 Wireless Router), and see that both my laptop (Windows XP SP2 with all latest patches, Windows Media Player 11, Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security) and the PS3 are connected to the network, but I can't get the laptop to see the PS3. A:Problems Using Windows Media Player To Stream To Ps3

OK. I'm making some headway with this. I think I needed to turn on UPnP on both the router and the PS3. So the router sees UPnP working fine on the PS3, but it's not picking it up on my laptop. I installed the component and turned on UPnP on my laptop, but then the laptop only sees the router, and the router only sees the PS3. But I still can't get the laptop to see the PS3. Is it because the PS3 is in a DMZ? What services need to be on for me to properly setup my laptop as a media server to stream content to my PS3?

A:Windows Media Player Does Not Stream Video

Do the following:

How to troubleshoot playback of network or Internet media
Streaming media over the Internet is subject to all standard network connectivity troubleshooting. Server-side issues cause the most commonly-experienced issues. • Make sure that the Internet Wizard or Network Connection Wizard has been run on the system. If it has not been, run either wizard:1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Communications.
2. Click New Connection Wizard.
3. Follow the instructions and complete the wizard.

• Try connecting to the stream with Mplayer2:1. Click Start, click Run, and then type mplayer2.
2. Click OK.
3. On the File menu, click Open, and then type the URL for the media.

• Verify that the system is not behind a firewall or proxy and verify the Windows Media Player specific network settings:1. Open Windows Media Player, and then on the Tools menu, click Options.
2. On the Network tab, make sure that all of the protocol boxes are selected, and then verify that the proxy settings are correct.

• Try disabling Internet Connection Sharing or any firewall software if it is enabled.
• For more information on setting your firewall configuration for Windows Media, please see the following Microsoft Web site:

Hello all, I tried to reply to the thread with a similar title to provide a correct answer. So I am reintroducing the topic and providing an answer that seems to work.

Problem: I want to use media player with very minimal frame. Many answers are "play full screen". But I know that media can be played in windows media without any skin, very minimal framing and floating media controls over the video that auto hide when you move away.

Press Ctrl-2. This puts you in a skin mode. There should be menu items at the top: File, View, Play, Tools, Help
Choose View->Skin Chooser
You are now in the full media player experience. Do not choose a skin. Click the 3 square & arrow thing at the bottom "Switch to now playing"
Viola! No skin, minimal borders and floating media controls.

I have no idea why this is not a simple option. I think what I am choosing is the most basic skin, maybe not even intended for use. But this is my favorite player, super simple.

I have a Windows 7 system that is running all Windows Updates available as on today. I assume it is running the latest edition of WMP; but, I can see no way of determining the version. It plays MTS (movies made on a Panasonic Camcorder) files just fine.

I have another system here running WinXP with all updates available for it as of today. Again, I cannot determine which version of WMP. It will not play MTS files. It is running a Intel Core 2 CPU 6300 $ 1.86 GHz and 2 Gigs of RAM. It stops at a screen that says it is loading but remains black indefinitely with no progress indicator.

Any advice?

Am I just going to have to go to Win7? I know there are other programs that probably will play MTS; but, it would be nice if I could get WMP to do it without having to go to Win7.

Sounds like you need a codec for the video file to play.

Download a codec package or the individual codec needed to play the video.

Whenever i watch a video that was recorded with fraps then rendered with vegas, after a minute or two, the screen will just go black and there will be a buzzing noise and I have to restart.

It's really hard to be able to watch a video and make sure it's perfect before uploading to youtube with this problem persisting. Usually it takes about 1-2 minutes before it crashes.

I thought the issue may have been that my external drive that it is on was being too slow and causing a crash, so I copied a file to my main HDD and it still didn't run properly. though it did last slightly longer, however, that may have been coincidence.

Anyways, This is on a fresh install of windows, about a weeks old and made to try and stop thesse issues, and all drivers are up to date. This issue happened with COD4 online too but after reading some stuff, if you have a monitor plugged in that is not in use, removing it will fix issues, and it did.

My specs are: (for now all has been defaulted as I though it may have been OC that caused issues.)
i7 950 @ 3.07GHz
12GB Corsair XMS3 1600MHz
Sapphire Radeon HD 6970 2GB
Corsair TX650W

Using 11.5 drivers on AMD.com for 6970 and all drivers for the board are installed off of the asus website.

Please help with these issues, as once this is done, my computer may be perfect for me.

PS. This never used to happen with my 5830 (I don't think) and I only got my 6970 a few weeks ago. This will most likely be the main cause of it.

I have windows vista, since the begining I was using WMP to view videos I recorded with my digital camera. All was well and good until my friend gave me a couple vid clips from his digital camera in .mov format. WMP would not recognize the vids, so I downloaded Quicktime in order to view them. Well, I like WMP a lot better then quicktime, but now for some reason I can only watch my vids in QT, if I open them in WMP they will play the Audio, but it no longer displays the video. WMP SHOULD still be the default video player as I did not tell QT to make them defaults when I downloaded it.

I'm sure the solution is a simple one, but I'm stumped....

A:Windows Media Player Not Showing Videos

It might have happened by accident. Quicktime can be very sneaky. All of these apps have Options tabs so you have to go into WMP or Quicktime and enable or disable default depending on what you find.

I had WMP sharing setup just perfect for the last year or so. But in the last few months I had a few friends bring over their xboxes and so the devices on my media sharing list got a but out-of-date with a lot of entries, so deleted them "assuming" I could refresh the list.

Now all the devices are gone and I cannot find a way to refresh the list and just see the devices actually on my network right now. Anyone know how to do this?

Sorry if there's a post here about it already, I kept getting errors trying to search the forum.

I have a amd athlon 2100+ with 256 mb ddr (should be getting some more)running windows 2003 server.

When I try opening any online video, (online clip, or streaming media) I get this message "windows media player cannot play this file. Connect to the internet or insert the removable media on which the file is located, and then try to play the file again. BUT I'm online and can do I think everything online. I disbaled windows firewall and don't have any currently installed. I've tried going to options and enable everything and configure everything to automatic, BUT that wouldn't help either. I don't know if this might help, But I do keep on getting occasionally the "view offline" or "try again" window. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated ! THANKS FOR YOU TIME!

UPDATE: Discovered OS was mega curropted. I am just going to do a full clean wipe reinstall from disk. Issue resolved. Don't use Iobit!
Hello there, I am having a really confusing issue. I am on windows 7 Home Prem 64x. My windows media player is constantly updating my C:\Users\Maggie\Videos folder and it will not stop ever. I have even tried removing the library from windows 7 and it keeps updating. When I added it back I noticed some really odd folders in videos. "s2ms." "s35o." & "sk0." without quotes. When I try to open them I get the "refers to a location that is unavailable-" error. When I try to delete them I get "is no longer located in .... verify the items location and try again" error. When I look at properties it says it's a file folder. Windows shell cannon, I believe because the folders end with a period. The security tabs says it cant display the information. I can not rename them either. I am completely confused. I have never encountered these and can't find information online. Can someone help me?
I don't know if these issues are related.
I did recently have the windows search service off however I reactivated it. Still endless updating. I also had Iobit adv system care and crap on my pc before this. I wish I had never installed them. I have cleaned my stuff up with Kerish doctor and wise care 365 now. I still think my computer is damaged from Iobit especially since I had the pro version which went even deeper into the registry. Yes I also deleted my wind... Read more

WMP will not play rar and IMG videos. I have downloaded DivX codex so avi files run Ok. Any help would be appreciated.

PS. Downloaded GSpot but not sure how to use it. Sumter

A:Solved: windows media player will not play rar& img videos

Windows Media Player is not built to play .rars and .img, those are not audio or video files. Use 7-zp or Winrar to open the .rars. Use poweriso or daemon tool lite to open the .img. A good media player to use would be VLC media player.

Just recently, my media player doesn't play videos correctly. The speed is normal so it shouldn't play slow or lag. Also, my computer is pretty beefy and can play medium to high performance in new games so it should be able to play a video.

A:Windows Media Player plays videos slow or not at all

You really shouldn't double post, it just confuses the issue. See my suggestions in your OTHER , properly posted, post.
