Firefox won't open due previous version open (Moved from Windows 10)

Q: Firefox won't open due previous version open (Moved from Windows 10)

Hi,

I am new to here and really hope someone is able to assist me .... and fast. I have struggled with this for a good part of a day.

Operating System is Windows 10.

My issue is with Firefox.

I have been trying for hours to reinstall Firefox. I uninstall it ... then reinstall it .... try and open it .... but then get a message telling me there is still a version open.

I have gone into Task Manager.... tried to close it but it won't shut down. I have tried more ways to force shut it down I am not sure if there are any other options left.

I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it a few times .... also restarted my computer several times.

To be honest .... it almost appears Chrome isn't completely shutting down also.

If anyone has any suggestions and solutions then I am anxious to hear them.

Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Firefox won't open due previous version open (Moved from Windows 10)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Firefox won't open due previous version open (Moved from Windows 10)

1. Uninstall as here
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer
Not proceeding to remove user data
NOTE - do this via settings as shown on the link.
NOT through Control Panel - Programs and Features.
By way of Settings and apps

2.
Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
Windows:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
THIS STEP is vital
SHUT DOWN your computer fully as here
Step 1: Open Start menu, select Power button.

Step 2: Press and hold the Shift key on keyboard, while clicking on Shut down, and then release the Shift key to perform a full shutdown.
Reboot and proceed as below

3. Download Fire from here
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release
configuring for your bit version - 64bit I presume and language

DO NOT INSTALL it SAVE the file to your desktop or where you wish.

4. Go to Task Manager and check if any Firefox processes are shown
If so end the process if it allows you to
SHUT DOWN fully again

5. Go to the download and install

Please report the results

My PC runs Vista Home Premium (SP2) and I have been happily using Firefox for a number of years. Last night Firefox refused to open - clicking on the shortcut (or using the shortcut key on keyboard) does nothing. Luckily I can use IE7 so at least I have internet access. Looking through other forums, a common solution seems to be renaming Firefox.exe to something like Firefox2.exe. I have tried this but with no success. I have copied the gpboxp1c.default folder containg my favourites (of which there are many) to the desktop, deleted the entire Firefox folder and downloaded Firefox 3.6.3 from the Mozilla site but when I try to open the installation file it too does nothing. I get a very brief glimpse of a status window saying "Extracting Files 0%" but it immediately disappears and nothing happens. This concerns me slightly as it makes me think I may have a virus or other such nasty that doesn't like Firefox! Can anyone help please?

A:[SOLVED] Firefox won't open and unable to install new version

might be too late to try because of the changes you made but did you try starting firefox manually. click on the firefox.exe file?

also check your task manager processes tab, see if there is a firefox.exe running there. if so, disable it.

Is it possible to save all open documents and browser pages to reopen in the next session of Windows ?

Sometimes (late at night) I run out of mental dexterity.
To close the PC down for overnight or several days I must make a written note (usually a text file) of all open documents and save all open tabs in my browser. Including multiple windows of my browser tabs.

Most docs (txt files) do not display the file path, and to locate the holding folder of all open files can be rather complex.
I do not want to leave the PC/laptop running overnight and on some occasions for several days.
The laptop battery is limited to how long it can maintain sleep before the laptop dies all together.
(Been there, done that)

Would appreciate any advice

A:Open all docs from previous Windows session

Hibernation should do that without using the battery.

Hi,
I am in a few fantasy hockey pools and am having an issue with links that will take me to my other teams. I can go to a team, but when I click on the link to another team it doesn't work. Sometimes I will copy the address of the team I am on, then open another window, paste the copied address and paste it in the address bar to get to my other team. Sometimes that doesn't even work. OPnce in awhile I can just refresh the page I am on and then click on a link to another team, and it will work. More often it doesn't work either. This is on CBS Sports Fantasy page. I do not have this problem on my other laptop. All of the links work on that computer. It seems to be this laptop that it does it on only.
Anyone have any suggestions?
I am using Windows 10
I am not getting any error message, the link just seems to be dead. When I click on a link it looks like there is a thin lined box around the link I want to go to but that's it. Zero indication that it is even recognizing my clicking on it.

TIA

Good morning I am not sure if I am posting this in the right forum or not if I am not I do appologize and request it be moved to the proper place.

For the last two weeks I have been having issues with my home network, the internet speed has been ungodly slow and Facebook a site I frequent for the mini games keeps popping up as blocked by OpenDNS to contact the system administrator. Well the administrator is my father I have bought up this concern to him and his conection is also ungodly slow and he says he has not blocked Facebook and is unsure as to how it is happening. Thru troubleshooting and research I think I kind of have pinpointed the problem but am unsure how to fix it. Everytime this happens if I reset our modem viola everything starts running at a good speed Facebook pops up ... but the second my little brother realizes the modem has been reset he logs his pc back on (I have no clue what he does in there besides play games) and everything goes back to not functioning. Finally frustrated with not being able to do anything I want to on my pc when I have the time I downloaded your program Hijackthis and ran a scan here is the log I really do hope you can help me out with this problem.

A:IE & firefox won't open or long delay to open

Try this:

Right click on the IE7 desktop icon and select 'Start without add-ons'. If the problems with IE7 don't occurr then an add-on is causing problems.

If that doesn't work, right click on the IE desktop icon and select 'Properties'. Click on the 'Security' tab and click on 'Reset all zones to default level' (provided it isn't already grayed out).

Another thing you can try is right click on the IE desktop icon, select 'Properties' >> 'Advanced' tab and click on the 'Reset' button.

Before resetting IE7 you may want to read this:

Hi,

My computer is running XP Home SP3. It went "weird" earlier today!

First I noticed unrequested pages were appearing.
Then Firefox stopped opening - it appears in the list of processes for a few seconds then disappears.
I can open IE but it is being redirected when I, for example, click a google search link.
I can't open Internet Options via either the COntrol Panle or IE Tools.
I ran AVG and it virus vaulted a trojan, a registry reference to the trojan and various trackers.
I ran Housecall and it "fixed" another trojan (it had "mole" in its name).
I ran HJT and deleted three obvious redirect items.
I tried rebooting with System Restore off then switched it back on but still Firefox won't open and IE is redirecting.

I'm stumped!

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Kind regards,
Ella.

I'm getting an odd problem in Windows XP. Say I have windows explorer open and notepad. If I leave them open, then restart, both of those applications immediately launch when XP boots back up. The windows explorer is even exploring the same folder as it was previously. It looks like somehow Windows is saving my session before restarting, then restoring it once XP boots back up.

The problem started happening after I was messing with my network subnet. I don't see how network settings can affect a local problem like that though. I restored the subnet to how it originally was, and it still occurs.

How do I disable this? Thanks in advance.

A:Solved: windows do not always open in new tab in Firefox

It's not Firefox. It's the way the link is.
For instance if you click a link in a Thread here at Tech Guy, it will open in a tab.
If you click a header link to go to a different forum it will load in the same tab.

To always open in a new tab, Middle click links (click the mouse wheel) or hold down the CTRL key when clicking.
Note: Shift+click will always open a new Window.

I have two problems. The first is that unsolicited windows open in Firefox. The second is that my computer is unable to connect to the Zone Alarm server to update anti-virus and spyare definitions. It isn't a server problem as I can connect without a problem from another computer on the same network.

ok. well, this is the first time i'm posting here or on any forum and while I consider myself to be somewhat versed in computer problems, I'm not a professional. So i'm turning to you fine folks that may be able to help me get this problem fixed

first off, the build

this is a home made computer

basic info:
windows xp professional version 2002 sp3

amd athlon 64 processor 2.4 ghz
1 gig ram 250 gb hd
Asus ABV-E Deluxe motherboard

the main issue i am having is occuring every so often when i am browsing on firefox. i will get registry defender tabs open up and shrink the window to fit. and other times i get the random google work at home scam page with a dialogue box that has the whole "skeptical? yeah i was too...etc" and redirects again until i can finally close it.

im not sure if this is a problem with a random popup trojan or something like that, or if it's just stuff that happens to everyone while online.

i have run spybot and mbam with no results. however, Avira does find some kind of java class loader from time to time. the last one detected(last night) was a java/dldr.agent.m or something like that. i have the log saved.

i make sure to update my A/M / A/V software before each scan.

i'm at a loss as to where to begin...

Hi everyone, I am sure it's not only my problem, and someone already asked for soluton. ...

After Windows 7 runs its updates I can not load Firefox at all. What I do is - a) system restore to the day prior to Windows updates and if this doesn't help b) uninstall and reinstall FF.

I also wonder: could Norton360 cause the problem. What happened today was Windows enforced its updates, then FF was loading extremely slow, and then stopped loading. Then I ran Live Update on Norton. No luck. I just reinstalled Firefox a few minutes ago. Opens in seconds. Now, I am OK until the next W. updates.

What is the solution? Your recommendation? It drives me nuts when FF is dead. It's not just slow, it's totally dead. And by the Murphy's Law I have a lot to do on my PC.

Thanks, guys. Appreciate any tip, advice in advance.

A:Firefox does not open after Windows updates

Could be a long shot, but perhaps you can try disabling any Firefox add-ons you're using, before updating Windows, to try and narrow down which (if any) could be causing the problem.

Maybe even as you said, an incompatibility or other issue with Norton 360 and Firefox that rears its ugly heading during/after updating Windows.

Hi everybody

I picked up some nasty malware. AVG was updating and suddenly everything just fell apart.

I can't run any installation programs regardless of the extension or name. I've tried to install Rkill and MalwareBytes with absolutely no luck. It defaults to needing to be unblocked in the properties and no matter what compatibility mode I use it will not run. I get a 1084 error when I try to open the security center. In the taskbar I have an Action Center alert that says 1 Important Message and 3 Total Messages. The Action Center will not open at all. I do not have access to a USB key as I am not home, but I will be Tuesday evening. Any help would be infinitely appreciated.

Other notes I forgot: I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and I am constantly getting errors that Windows can't load and needs to be repaired. It runs and restarts, sometimes being repaired and other times not.

Thanks a lot
Jared

A:Action center won't open, Internel Explorer only browser that will open, no MalwareBytes and RKill will not open

An update.

I've tried running MalwareBytes and RKill from a flash drive which is also not working. Windows also ends up unable to load, the startup repair runs and things work fine. Not long after Windows tries to update and then it becomes unable to load again and the startup repair runs again.

I tried running a registry fix for the .exe problem and I get an error stating that the registry is being used even when no programs are running and I am in safe mode.

Hope this information helps
thanks
Jared

I'm a bit new to all of this, so forgive me if I'm missing the obvious.

Basically, many programs of mine do not open. Firefox, Internet Explorer and even iTunes do not open. They appear in the Task Manager for a bit before disappearing.
Furthermore, Windows Firewall will not open - it simply says
"Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service?"

When I start up my computer and try to run, say, Firefox, after it doesn't bar the task bar goes weird.. it's no longer blue - instead it's a creamish colour.
Any time I try to do a Windows search, the window appears briefly (although where it is blue, it is red...) and then closes.

As I said, I am rather illiterate when it comes to computers - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, I am aware that Combofix logs are not allowed on this forum but it was the only program to find my issue. I tried Malwarebytes (came up clean) AdAware (came up clean) and my own Comodo AV (came up clean) Combofix pulled up problems, I fixed them, restarted and my problem was gone (that was Sunday) now it is back again. I have barely used my PC since then so no downloads or obscure sites.

My problem is when I click 'search' on google (or any other search site) a separate window will open with some sort of advertisement.

I would be grateful if someone could walk me threw some other programs that are allowed on this site to replicate the findings that only Combofix found for me.

I apologize if the title isn't clear enough, but it's the best way I could describe my issue.
Whenever I click on a link on one of my legitimate game websites to say... message another user (clicking "message this user" opens a small pop-up window that you can type in), nothing happens. This has happened ONLY since this morning and was working fine any other time, so I have no idea why it's doing this.
I'm scanning my computer for malware right now, I've cleared my cache, restarted Firefox, restarted my computer, checked NoScript to see if it was blocking anything when I clicked on "message this player".. nothing has fixed it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

A:Firefox won't open good pop-up windows when clicked

Did you update Firefox or anything between now and then? Firefox should show something up beside the address bar saying "popup blocked" if it blocks a requested popup. If you click on it, it should give the option to allow popups from that particular site in the future. Otherwise, you should be able to go into your settings and manually allow popups from certain sites.

Hello. I have a computer that will open multiple windows or tabs in both Firefox and IE by itself. If you let the machine go, it will continue to open pages forever. Most of the time the page that opens up is for dell.com.Anyway, I have run malwarebytes, adaware, spybot, and the machine has Symantec for antivirus. They all turn up nothing, but this continues to happen. A search seems to bring up various things, but nothing concrete. Can someone review this hijackthis log to see if they see anything odd? Thanks!MikeLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 1:10:23 PM, on 9/2/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18702)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exeC:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\AAWService.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\ASF Agent\ASFAgent.exeC:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus\DefWatch.exeC:\P...
