I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,

Windows XP Pro.

At the office I use an external mouse on my computer.

At the end of the day I (usually) unplug the mouse before going into standby mode.

When I forget to disconnect mouse before going into standby mode...when I get home and resume my touchpad ends up being frozen and won't work.(Note: Built-in notebook keyboard does work however).

When this happens the only way I know how to correct the problem is to restart the computer.

Is there some magic or alternative way to unfreeze my mouse without having to restart the computer?

Thanks.

A:Want to Unfreeze a Frozen Notebook Mouse (Touchpad)

Ctrl \ Alt \ Delete. Click Processes and see if the mouse app is still running. If it is, right click on it and end processes.

Hi @FlashRam1714 and @SDJL Per my post from 1-27-16: One day my TouchPad stopped responding completely. I uninstalled the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad driver under Device Manager. After I restarted my computer, my TouchPad was working again with the older Microsoft TouchPad drivers that  were still there. Eventually Windows automatically updated to the latest Synapatics 19.0.12.98 and the TouchPad was working until I closed my laptop and tried opening it again.  @FlashRam1714 intially responded to me and I followed the steps he told me. Here's my response on 1-31-16: I tried the hard rest first to no avail.  I followed all the steps in HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10), including redownloading the newest drivers, and still nothing. I also tried your link to HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8). I ran the component test for the mouse and passed both the pointing and drag tests. So clearly its not a hardware issue, but a problem with the compatibility between the Synaptics Pointing Device -v19.0.12.98 driver and the Touch Pad. Again when I roll back to the Microsoft 10.0.10586.0 Touch Pad driver, the touch pad works, but with a lot less functionality (the driver date is 6/21/2006) My machine originally had Windows 8.1 on it and I upgraded to Windows 10. I had previously talked to @FlashRam1714 about this problem, who gave me a number of solutions to try. I  tried the hard rest first to no avail.  I followed all the steps in HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10), including redownloading the newest drivers, and still nothing. I also tried your link to HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8). After a few days though it ends up updating to the Synaptics Pointing Device -v19.0.12.98 driver. Is there a way to stop it from updating? My machine originally had Windows 8.1 on it and I upgraded to Windows 10. I noticed Synaptics has a newer driver (v19.0.19.1) that goes with Windows 10, but I haven't had luck trying to install it. Do you think that's the issue and if so, could you explain how to replace that with my current driver? Thanks, Matt

A:TouchPad on my ENVY Notebook Driver Issue

I have been having the SAME exact issue that you are having.  In fact I bought two of these machines and they both had the same exact issue with the touchpad.   I still have one of these machines but the other was returned. My device is also an HP Envy 15t-q300, also originally installed with Windows 8.1.  I installed Windows on this machine from a clean ISO install. Currently I have Synaptics driver 19.0.19.1 (Driver Date: 8/5/2015).  This provides full functionality to the touch pad and has been stable.  The annoying part however is that Windows Update likes to update this driver.  Once that happens the touchpad will typically work until the machines goes into it's first sleep cycle, and then upon next resume the touchpad shows as disabled and there is no way to enable it.  That is when I must perform the driver roll back and things work for a while again. I have downloaded the latest drvier from synptics and the same issue occur as they do with the driver from Windows Update.  I would really like to see a resolution to this issue as it's really quite irritating.

Hi, The Clickpad settings of my touchpad have been resetting and it is very frustrating having to set it up after each reboot. I have the latest driver: 19.2.4.0 Rev.A http://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-17-n000-Notebook-PC/7771351/model/8429318 I have tried the previous version but the problem still persists. And now for some reason, my right click area is not working and I have to rely on double tapping to right click. Disabling two finger click does not activate the one finger right click area either.  Any help would be really appreciated. I'm very annoyed and disappointed with this HP laptop I have attached my system info below: HP ENVY Notebook - 17-n062na  EDIT: Forgot to mention that I have tried to change the registry option on the Delete User Setting option from 1 to 0 but this resets to 1 again.

My fiancee's Dell Vostro 1000 seems to be having an odd mouse tracking problem that's cropped up recently. Every now and then, the pointer will suddenly jump to the Close button at the top of the window-- she's closed several windows unintentionally by clicking without noticing that her pointer wasn't where she thought it was.

She's running Windows XP on her laptop, either Service Pack 2 or 3... I don't remember if we updated it or not. Has anyone heard of an issue like this? I remember a while back that an old Thinkpad model, the R31, had issues like this when the computer tried to check the battery status every 30 seconds, that would cause the pointer to jump around erratically, but I'm not sure if this is something similar or what.

Hi all,

Couple of issues relating to touchpad on my mouse. Initially my touchpad broke, as it only worked on occasion, including cursor disappearing and buttons not working.

I bought a mouse to override the touchpad issue and now the mouse is having problems. With the last two I've used, when using the scroll wheel, it disables the mouse. You can only use it again by using the scroll wheel. The mouse I'm currently using worked fine for a few days before developing this issue. It's really frustrating!

Any tips to fix both mouse and touchpad would be appreciated. Using Windows 7.

Cheers

Hi,

I recently purchased a new laptop. Toshiba Satellite L50 B 1P1. In the last week, the laptop has developed a problem. The mouse performs incredibly inconsistently. On the lock screen, it will work without fault. However, as soon as the computer is unlocked, it sometimes just freezes in a set position. Both keys still work, and i know that the pad isn't at fault, as when spreading my finger over the pad, it selects icons in an up/down selection. The icon size can also be changed with a pitch, but the position will not change.

The resolutions i have attempted such as power on off, function keys, the FN trip and F5/F9 boot were all unsuccessful. However, when updating the driver, the mouse works. However (once bloody more!), when asked to restart the notebook, once restarted the mouse resumes said problems.

Any help welcomed....

Hope I got my point across.

Thanks,

SR

A:Touchpad/Mouse issue (Not Hardware)

Driver issue, but if the mouse is freezing, it is a hardware issue. Take it back or send it to Toshiba. I use a Logitech m525 laser mouse, because my hand cramps when I use the touchpad all of the time, due to Arthritis.

Hi all,

I've basically spent the whole day looking for a solution (which I still don't think I have), so figured I'd try my luck here.

The trackpad/touchpad (mouse cursor) on the Dell XPS 13 (9343) will randomly freeze-up, stop scrolling, stop being able to mouse click, start randomly resizing/scrolling or will cease to do anything at all after a while. This is a known issue apparently and commonly experienced by most owners.

Does anyone know of an actual solution for this? Dell released a firmware update that supposedly addressed the issue however unfortunately mine started doing it again today to the point where I had to literally power the machine off and reboot.

From what I've read here:

YES!!! A SOLUTION/ACTUAL WORKING FIX! XPS Laptop's - Touchpad / Touch pad / Mouse issue. Windows 8/10 need apply. Scrolling in Chrome mirrors that of Edge. Now THIS is Precision. Scrolling you're actually used to seeing on a laptop. : Dell

It sounds like my next move might be to try installing the windows 10 PS/2 generic driver from Synaptics?

Any advice/help on this would be greatly appreciated! I can't really find any solutions or updates past 2015..

Between this and trying to update my sound driver, I'm losing my hair, FAST.

Hello Tristan,

Welcome to the forums.

Been a while since I had a laptop, but I seem to remember there being a setting on what to do with the touchpad when the mouse is plugged in. Unfortunately I don't remember where and have no way of finding it.

Have you tried rebooting with the mouse unplugged?

Sorry I can't be of more help. The manual for the laptop ought to have that info in it somewhere.

Hi guys,

New here, so I hope I'm not out of line asking for help, and that I'm asking correctly. I've exhausted my own ideas on this but the problem is driving me IN.SANE.

THE ISSUE:
When using an external (USB) mouse with my ASUS Win7 laptop, the mouse randomly lifts up and re-clicks while clicking or while dragging (despite the button remaining consistently depressed), resulting in selection of the wrong objects, inadvertent double-clicks, and incorrect dragging. From what I can tell, this affects only the left click and not the right.

WHAT I'VE TRIED:
Laptop touchpad - no problem. Everything works fine with the built-in touchpad.
Another mouse - same problem. These are wired mice, so it's not a battery or connection issue.
Another USB port - same problem in all four. There's no visible issue with the motion of the mouse/cursor, so it seems to be communicating OK via USB.
Safe Mode - no problem, from what I can tell. The wired USB mouse seems to click and drag as normal in Safe Mode.
Mouse Settings - no effect. Adjusting the click/double-click/drag settings doesn't seem to change anything.
System Resources - no effect. Clicking/dragging seems to show the same results in the RAM/CPU monitors whether I'm having the problem (with the mouse) or performing the same actions without the problem (with the trackpad).

WHAT I CANNOT FIGURE OUT:
What haven't I ruled out? What else could be causing the issue?

The problem came on suddenly after about a year, but I... Read more

Hey mate, and welcome,

Possible problem:
1. Mouse itself is bad. Either the button itself or internally
2. Driver is not at its best

Try:
Going to the mouse manufacture website to download the most recent driver for your Windows 7, either 32 or 64 bit. If it doesn't work, try without any driver (so that windows driver takes over).

Troubleshooting a fairly new HP laptop. Had been infected with a virus. Cleaned it all up but was experiencing erratic mouse behavior. The customer claimed the behavior started when he got hit with infection. While the pointer itself moves fine the left and right mouse buttons intermittently act like they are being held down causing the pointer to drag and highlight everything in site. At other times the buttons do nothing at all. At other times the left mouse button triggers a rightclick menu. And at other moments all mouse control is fine. This occurs equally on the touchpad or when using an external USB mouse. I tried disabling the touchpad completely but the problem still occurs when using the external mouse. I tried updating the sypatics touchpad driver but that made no difference either. I finally resorted to wiping and completely reinstalling windows but the problem still persists. For the hell of it I then updated the BIOS firmware but that made no difference either. All keyboard function work fine so I have been having to resort to using the arrow keys and alt tab and such to navigate around. I ran a Passmark Burn in Test and everything passed.

A couple of additional points. I ran the Hirens Boot CD which is similar to the Ultimate Boot CD. I then booted into the Mini Windows XP and the same erratic mouse behavior occured so this is clearly not an operating system issue. Also when I wiped and reloaded Windows I used the HP Recovery partition and ran thei... Read more

Dell 2-in-1 3147:
The "DELL Pointing Devices" dialog shows a "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" checkbox. If this checkbox is clear, the touchpad works properly. When this checkbox is marked, the touchpad does not work at all.
I have tried both USB and Bluetooth mice, and neither one allows the proper action: the touchpad should be enabled without a mouse, and the touchpad should be disabled with a mouse.  That's how it works on other systems.  It just doesn't work at all on this system.
I suspect there is some interaction between the touchpad and the touchscreen that is interfering with this setting.  But I have another laptop with a touchpad and a touchscreen, and the mouse detection works there (it's not a DELL).
Yes, I have toyed with the idea of deleting the DELL touchpad control application and installing a "stock" Synaptics touchpad driver.  But I don't want the DELL  "update" app to overwrite it with the DELL touchpad control app every time it sees "the wrong driver" loaded.  And I don't want to take the chance that the touchpad driver and the touchscreen driver are somehow linked together, thus disabling one when I disable the other.
Any ideas on how to get the "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" action working would be welcome.

Hi,It appears I somehow deactivated my touchpad or something along those lines as my mouse pointer/cursor has completely disappeared? It was working fine yesterday, and I think the only thing that might have triggered this is that I accidentally pressed some keys (unsure of which ones, so I don't even know how to reverse it). I've tried restarting, as well as looked through some of the mouse/touchpad settings to no avail. If anyone can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it (I'm currently relying on my fingers and the touchscreen which isn't as convenient)

This is really starting to annoy the hell out of me. I just picked up a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse, the Notebook 5000 mouse to be exact for my home entertainment center.

I have my PC ran to a monitor and a 55 inch Samsung LED LCD TV for watching movies etc. The problem is, the HDMI cord is run threw the wall so the PC is in another room so I cant use the normal mouse on the PC. I bought a bluetooth mouse due to the increased range but I'm having nothing but issues.

I have the Microsoft Bluetooth dongle btw, didn't come with the mouse, the mouse actually comes with no dongle.

Anyway it connects fine but if I stop using it for like an hour or whatever it disconnects and nothing I do will reconnect it unless I take my other mouse, go into bluetooth devices, delete it and readd it all over again.

WHY THE HELL does it keep doing this lol?

It's very annoying, I sit down to watch a movie and discover I cant start it without first going into the other room and readding my mouse.

I'm well within range and I've tried moving the bluetooth mouse to the same room as the PC to use it with the PC and it still does the same thing.

Help?

I have used other notebooks, but never noticed what this crazy touchpad does on the Dell Latitude CPiA366- touching the pad like you were going to scroll the cursor over is having the same affect as a left click with mouse button, or Enter key- do all notebooks do this or all Dells?
Weird- put the cursor on a link and it is activated just by the pad when you put your finger on it- not even a tap really. Is there a way to turn down this too sensitive touchpad?

Hello people. I would like to request assistance.
I need to disable the touchpad on my Asus G74Sx notebook. Is there some kind of program I can download that will allow me to disable the touchpad? I used to have a program that allowed me to do so, but when I google it now, I don't get any results that will allow me to download that program, it was called FspUip.exe
Pressing function F9 does not disable the touchpad, and going into the BIOS and disabling the internal pointing device also disables the keyboard.

I have downloaded all the drivers for my notebook numerous times, and I don't know what else to do to try to turn off this touchpad. Going into the control panel and disabling the touchpad that way, also doesn't work.
Please assist me

Hi

I have been posting to so many forums. The thing is, I can't format my machine, it belongs to my company and I have already requested it to be reimaged and this is the 3rd time. I ran the dell diagnostic test, and I still can't find any error and that means I can't get Dell to replace my motherboard..although I think something is wrong with my USB.

Its just that I notice that the windows desktop icon, or any application seems to open faster when I use the touchpad to double click. I actually just tap twice on the touchpad. This is without the USB mouse connected.
However, when I connect to the USB mouse, all windows apps, icons opens slowly. It kinda like take longer and the notebook freezes for 1 - 2 second..Its not smooth. I have tried everything..every single thing..reinstalling the drivers..and whatever..and no error code...with dell diagnostic..how am I gonna get them to change the usb ports..when there are no errors..

Please help

After rebooting I intalled the driver after the intallation was done it prompted me to reboot so I restarted the PC again but after the restart the driver is not installed. Hi @NoGameNoLife , Thank you for your inquiry, I am happy to help! I grasp that you are having a difficulty with the keyboard and Touchpad but your mouse is still working.  When you checked the mouse setting the Synaptics tab was missing.  You downloaded the Synaptic Touchpad driver and installed but it again disappeared and the keyboard and Touchpad stop working,  You deleted the driver this time and rebooted your notebook. You again installed the driver and it prompted  you to reboot which you did, but again the driver is not installed.  The keyboard now works but after some time it quits responding. Have you scanned for viruses and malware? Would you try this step:Go to the command prompt and right click to run as administratorType sfc /scannow and press enterWait for it to complete and then restart your computer. This will scan for corrupted files and try to repair them. Here are links to assist you with some troubleshooting steps.Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8)Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8) If this has not resolved the issue, I would try a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8).   If you connect an external keyboard do you have the same issue, does it quit responding after awhile?  If you are still having a difficulty, I would do a full recovery back to factory. Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8) During the recove... This issue was raised in another thread which was closed out before it was resolved. I have an ASUS Notebook K53e and I want to disable the touchpad on it which the specific make/model is ELAN PS/2 Port Smartpad. You should be able to do this with Fn+F9 however that keyboard function does not work on my computer as the guy in the previous thread. When I got to devmgmt.msc->Properties on the device->Driver , the "Disable" button is greyed out. I did not receive a driver CD with the machine I purchased . I need this thing disabled because it interferes with the typing very badly. Where do I go from here? Thanks,

A:Cannot disable ASUS Notebook Touchpad

Well, I just found the fix myself after posting this thread. You have to go to Control panel->Hardware and Sound->Devices & Printers-> Right click on the PC device->Mouse Settings->ELAN tab there is an option to Stop Device. Pain the arse mate

Hi there this is my first post I have searched the rest of the forum before making this post and tried all of the other suggestions without success System Information HP Pavilion G6 Notebook PCProduct Number A5H09EA#ABUSerial Number 5CD14477ZKWindows 7 64-Bit Version ProblemWhen windows Starts the light about the touchpad is not illuminated.  It is not on and will not turn on using the 'double tap' method in the upper left portion of the touchpad or the small circular 'indentation. Since it has stopped working I have updated the drivers for the touchpad and no change has happened Sometimes the 'right click' and dropdown button works and the menu appears but no other function works. Sometimes the touchpad works for a short time but it is 'intermittent' and slow and unresponsive. Any help that you could provide would be appreciated

Hi, First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53501-54000/sp53851.exe Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall. When this has completed, shut down the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at f10 as soon as you press the power button to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again. When windows has reloaded, see if holding down the fn key and pressing the spacebar will illuminate the TouchPad. There are also further configurable options Here. Regards, DP-K

Hey everybody... I've got an HP Pavilion ze4400 on which the touchpad doesn't work. I can't be sure whether it's a faulty device or if drivers aren't installed. In Control Panel, under Mouse, Hardware, only one device (the USB mouse I'm using) shows up. I'm not sure what the standard touchpad driver for HP notebooks is. Going through the Add Hardware Wizard and telling XP that the device is already installed, it then gives me a list of installed hardware to select from. I don't know what that driver is, if it's even in there. Anyone know what the driver is? Anyone else have this problem? Thanks!

Download the drivers from HP's web site. You just put in the model number of the laptop.

Hi,  I suddenly lost my touchpad. It can no longer track my mouse movements. The touchpad on/off toggle button does not seem to work anymore too. I cannot turn it on or off anymore. I restarted my system a couple of times without any results. Also tried uninstalling Synaptics Pointing Device Driver and subsequent installation of the latest version without any positive impact. Will be great if you happen to have any suggestions.

Hi, It's always worth trying the following. Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Regards, DP-K

While typing on a browser, my screen zooms in and out periodically, and I'm sure it's because I'm accidentally touching something.  How do I disable this?  I've tried going into mouse/touchpad settings but there isn't any option about changing the zoom. I use Windows 8.1 and have an HP Notebook 15. Thank you very much for your help in solving this annoying problem.

Hello people. I would like to request assistance. I need to disable the touchpad on my Asus G74Sx notebook. Is there some kind of program I can download that will allow me to disable the touchpad?

Pressing function F9 does not disable the touchpad, and going into the BIOS and disabling the internal pointing device also disables the keyboard, so that doesn't work for me.

I have downloaded all the drivers for my notebook numerous times, and I don't know what else to do to try to turn off this touchpad. Going into the control panel and disabling the touchpad that way, also doesn't work.

I run Windows 7 Home Premium.

Please assist me

Thank you very much

Out of curiosity but which notebook model do you have?
Do you use original preinstalled OS that you got with your notebook?

Can you enable/disable touchpad using FN+F9 key combination?

Hi All

First I lost the scrolling, vertical & horizontal enabling button grey out when trying, to tick them. I then down loaded the current driver. Tried FN-9/7, nothing worked
Then I reverted to previous driver and that lost me the synaptic touch pad settings only a mouse shows.

The touch pad works but still no scrolling and now the window to get to the settings has gone,

I also cleared the system restore dates.
On Window 7, help :(

For better understanding please offer some basic information:
Which notebook model do you have?
Do you use original Windows 7 you got with your notebook or you have installed own OS?
Do you use 32 or 64 bit Windows7?
