New Work Computer - BSOD when undocking

Q: New Work Computer - BSOD when undocking

Hi folks, I've just gotten a new laptop at work (Dell E7270 - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit) and every time I undock it I get the BSOD. I've trained myself to make sure nothing is open when undocking but have a been burned a few times, where I lost open files.

Hoping someone can lead me in the right direction to get this resolved.

Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: New Work Computer - BSOD when undocking

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I work in the helpdesk and am having trouble resolving an issue for a co-worker. I asked him to best describe the issue and here is his response....

"I will undock it from my desk, close the lid, take it to a meeting where it?s left undocked and unplugged, open the lid, andit?ll bluescreen within a few minutes of the screen coming back up"

Its a Lenovo T430 running Windows 7 (32 bit) and SP1. There is no minidump folder in the Windows directory (I followed the tutorial on how to create one but it still doesnt create one). I ran the System Update and updated the drivers that were available. I am not sure what else to try here.

I have had past success resolving issues by getting help from the gurus on here, so if you might have a suggestion on what to try, please let me know. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello Kevin mate it seems like that machine has a real problem if it is not giving up those dump files.

If you haven't already can you run these for starters

A user of mine is telling me she gets a BSoD often when she wakes up her laptop from sleep, or if she tries to undock it. My free tools for analyzing the dump file aren't giving me anything useful, so I figured I'd post it here in case someone with better tools would give it a shot.

A:BSoD when coming out of sleep or undocking

I've just had a quick look and the dump is blaming memory corruption, it would be worth doing some memory tests while you wait for the BSOD folks to take a good look at the dump.

I've been experiencing several BSOD over the last week, and I'm going insane trying to figure out what the issue is. There were no recent hardware changes, I've even tried installing windows 7 fresh on a brand new SSD but the BSODs appeared there too (although I also installed a new RAM stick when I installed the SSD, so that could be the reason for that crash, but not for the other crashes using my regular HD).

The errors I get are not consistent, every BSOD has a different reason and I can't find a solution or even a pattern. I tried reinstalling drivers, running disk checks and memory checks, but nothing worked. I'm desperate as I work from home using this computer, so you can imagine how awful this situation is. I really appreciate your help on this!

Attached are the two zipped files requested on the fixed topic.

I've assembled this computer myself a couple of years ago and it never had any issues until now.

My system specification is:

Windows 7 Professional 64bits SP 1
Intel Core i7-4770k CPU
ASUS GeForce GTX 780ti DirectCu II Graphic Card
ASUS Sabertooth Z87 Motherboard
Corsair TX740M Power Supply

Please let me know if you need any other information!

Many many thanks!

You should try updating your ASUS drivers from here ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download

you have old drivers. For example AsIO.sys is 2012 and AsUpIO.sys is 2010

secdrv.SYS is also old and should be updated by Windows Update. You only have 12 updates installed - I have 55 on 8.1 so run windows update a few times to make sure you are up to date.

This one usbfilter.sys should be updated from Support & Drivers

A:Undocking w/o turning off

You can for USB docking ports
Usually by clicking "disconnect" on the connected USB device icon near your system clock

No DMP files included in upload please try this method
We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.
To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

On http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mobile/display/a4-roundup-2_33.html I can read

"The docking station is connected via Toshiba?s exclusive connector. It is very handy that you can disconnect the station ?on the fly?, i.e. without powering the notebook down. To do so, you should use a special lever and look at the indicator ? when it goes out, the station can be undocked."

but the manual tell you to turn off computer before docking and undocking.

What is the right, can you do hot docking or not???

A:Libretto U100 hot undocking

Well, I don?t know exactly how to handle the undocking procedure on the Libretto but a friend of mine uses a Tecra with a docking station and he don?t turn off the notebook for undocking the notebook.
But maybe it?s is another case on the Libretto.
I would recommend following the guideline the user manual and turn-off the notebook if you want to remove the docking station.

You are on the safe side if you will follow the instruction in the user manual.

Hi All, I have a T440s in an Ultradock with the monitor closed and three external monitors connected (1 HDMI, 1 DVI, 1 VGA). Everytime that i undock the laptop and open the display, the display stays black.  This doesn't seem to happen if i put the laptop to Sleep, undock the laptop, and then turn the machine back on.  The only solution after undocked is to do a hard shut-off (losing any open data) and then turn the laptop back on. I've used the Lenovo Updates and Drivers application as well as the support website to validate that the Intel HD Graphics drivers are on the latest version. Any help is appreciated!

Hi All, I'm looking for some help finding out if my home machine is infected with anything.

The machine is an imac running windows 7 via bootcamp.

My computer at work came down with something and I routinely transfer files back and forth and run a portable version of firefox on a usb key in both locations so I'm worried.

I tried running malwarebytes and every time it would give me a blue screen of death after about 10 minutes of running. I switched over to safe mode and it ran successfully without finding anything but I'm still worried.

Someone on another forum told me to run combofix so I did, though I see now that that may have been a mistake to do prior to being asked to do so by someone here.

In any case, I've ran combofix and DDS from windows safe mode just a few minutes ago and will post the logs shortly.

Thanks much for any help.

Could someone please explain to me why I cannot get an ip or connection when I plug my ethernet cable directly into my laptop. I usually use a docking station. However, I have security issues so I thought I would see what happened when I undocked.

Also, when I am docked I get an ip address for a linksys router as an IP. I don't have any wireless routers connected and the radio on my machine is disabled. Any ideas?

A:no ethernet after undocking and connecting to laptop

I am not sure of the connection between security issues and undocking! But have you tried re-docking the laptop to see if internect connection is re-established, assuming it was working before you undocked??

while undocked, have you checked Device Manager to see that the network adapter was present and had no driver issues.?? also did you click on Start >Settings> network connections to see that the Local Area Connection was listed with a red X on it??

When I come to work I dock my laptop, lid closed, press the power button on the dock and after a few seconds I'm ready to work. When I leave for home I undock and put in my bag. It takes me an hour to reach home during which time the laptop is in my bag, not being used. When I get home it is hot since it didn't go into sleep. At home when I leave it for a while, it goes to sleep (plugged is 15 minutes or unplugged 30 minutes) 1. Why won't it go to sleep after I undock?2. Why won't it go to sleep after an idle timeout wake timers are disabled when unplugged and powercfg -requets shows an empty list. How do I fix this situation? I know I can undock, open the lid (wait for it to come on), then close again, but this is tedious and a lot of times I'm in a hurry and forget.

I used to use ThinkVantage's Access Connections to manage my network connection profiles on my Thinkpad. I just recently uninstalled it because I decided to just rely on the Vista has natively.

Since our office requires static IP, I set that up at the LAN properties.

Everything works fine when I start from a clean boot. It's when I undock and redock to the docking station that problem starts.

I lose the static IP configuration. Instead Vista assigns:
IP: (supposed to be 10.11.2.xxx)
Subnet: (supposed to be
Gateway: blank
DNS: correct

I now find myself having to do a reboot everytime I just need to undock and go to a 30 minute meeting when I used to be able to undock and redock without any problems whatsoever.

Why does Vista assign this random IP when it is hard configured?

How can I solve this problem?

I suggest re-installing the working solution, perhaps that's why it's there.

I have had this problem with both the RC and the RTM builds of Windows 7 Ultimate x86 on two different Dell laptops--a Latitude D830 and a Latitude E6500. Both are running nvidia Quadro display adapters (the D830 is a Quadro NVS 140M and the E6500 is a Quadro NVS 160M). In the case of the D830 I am running the latest drivers from nvidia's site (Dell didn't post Win7-specific drivers for this laptop). For the E6500 Dell has posted Win7-compatible drivers on its support site for the NVS 160M so that is what I'm using there.

In any case here is the issue. I install Win7 on the laptop and install the video drivers... native rez on the laptops is 1900x1200 (WUXGA). Aero glass is enabled and all is well and good.

I then take the laptop and connect it to the Dell-specific docking station (the D/Port in the case of the D830 and the E/Port for the E6500). In both cases there is an external monitor connected via DVI that also has a 1900x1200 native rez. The laptop lid is closed and the laptop is in suspend/sleep mode when docking.

Once in the docking station I power the laptop back on (it resumes from sleep) and then it goes about detecting the presence of the dock and the attached peripherals. The welcome screen comes up on the external monitor and I type in my password to get back to the desktop.

The only problem is that aero is now disabled (the taskbar and window borders are now opaque and aero peek no longer works, etc.). I have looked all over the net and tried ... Read more

I am actually running into a very similar issue. If I try to use Aero Peek with two HD resolutions Aero Peek will disable itself. If I do a monitor that is mirrored Aero Peek works fine. I also have a Dell Latitude E6500. Have you found a resolution to this issue?

Hello all. We are seeing this issue on a handful of T440's. When the user has the laptop docked and hard wired his network drives are connected and accessable. When they undock the laptop the drives is still showing but when they try to open any home drive folders they get the error " This file is currently not available for use onthis computer". The users are connected to our network wireless before they undock so it would seem that the connection to the home folders would still be there. Any help would be great. thanks, Matt

Hello folks.... I have a Lenovo W540 which has a simple problem that is frustrating me to no end. Whenever I undock the laptop, or bring it out sleep, the screen remains blank. I end having to put it back in the dock (or RDP to it), which allows me to view the screen content on the external monitors. I have updated all the drivers using the Lenovo driver app, and even applied the docking driver update. Nothing seems to help. I've searched the forums, but all that I have found is a suggestion to downgrade the video driver, which I dont really want to do. Anybody else have this issue? Any ideas? Thank you!! //EDIT to add that this is Windows 8.1. Important information

Hi community, we are using several Thinkpads for years mostly without issues. But for a while now we have to experience issues with our T540p's in combination with pro and ultimate docks. And lately we also run into the same issue with a T570.Here our configuration, there are two external displays connected to the docking and one of them is the primary screen. And this is the issue: When we undock the T540p, the internal display should switch to be the primary and only display, but it doesn't. It seems to be that the T540p is still thinking to have external displays connected. The internal display is all black but I can move the mouse pointer from the right into the screen and can also move it out of the screen by pulling it downwards. All windows are opened on the virtual screen, which means I cannot see any configuration windows to change display behavior. When this error occurs it also does not matter if I connect an external display to the T540p directly, I still cannot see anything. To set the internal display to be the main display before undocking does not change the behavior anyway. If I put the T540p into the docking again, mostly everything is fine. Anyone know of a solution for this? Almost every time I undock or re-dock my laptop after a meeting, something will be unresponsive, i.e. my Ethernet cable will fail to be detected or my wired keyboard becomes unresponsive. This is generally solved by a reboot (reseating the cable to the device that is failing has not generally worked), but I don't think this is necessary to solve the problem each time. Okay, this a fairly new one as I cannot find a single documented instance of this on the entire internet.....

Hardware - T60 thinkpad
OS - WinXP
Accessories - Docking station

I've deployed about a hundred of these things and this is the first time I've seen this message.....(not verbatim)

"The undocking sequence cannot continue because the print spool service needs to be stopped."

Fair enough, but I can't tell my user to keep going into the computer management services to turn the service on and off. My boss would kill me.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? My final resort would be to re-image the thing (as also suggested by IBM themselves). The problem is that would be a major hassle as this guy is an attorney and always on the run.

Any and all suggestions will be entertained....even the ones involving alchemy.

If you hit undock button from the start menu and you undock the computer will work, until the next reboot and then it does the same thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,
We have recently purchased (last month) a Latitude E5570 with docking station. We experience system hangs and freezes several seconds, sometimes up to a minute after hot undocking the laptop.  The mouse and keyboard become unresponsive.

It usually emits a beep code before freezing up.  4 beeps then a pause and then 1 beep. Any information regarding this?
Anyone have insights into this?

When I undock the laptop by pulling the USB-C cable out (either sleeping beforehand or not sleeping first) then I am getting an intermittent issue where the wifi claims to be disabled. The only way to resolve this is a hard reboot.
Toggling airplane mode doesn't help. Disabling and reenabling the wifi network connection doesn't help. Toggling airplane mode from Fn-PrtScr doesn't help.
It is acting as though the hardware radio is turned off (like when laptops used to come with a hardware radio switch), but with no method to turn it on again.
Looking in the system event log I can see entries from source Netwtw04, Event ID 7012 stating "radio OFF"
Drivers and bios are all up to date.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure what is going on with this computer.  It's running slowly and doing things that are not normal for it.  For example, the software I use for work is giving me login errors, I am gettting an error with Outlook saying my mailbox has been temporarily moved.  Internet Explorer is running slowly.  Chrome has crashed several times.  My computer restarted itself.  Etc, etc.
I ran Malwarebytes and it didn't find anything, so I figured someone with a lot more knowledge than me should probably look it over before I go too far.  One thing that may be of note: its a 143GB hard drive with 19.5GB of free space.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give !!!   : )
PS I have tried to upload the addition.txt file, but I cannot tell if it uploaded ?  I tried twice, so if its uploaded twice, I'm sorry !

Hello! I am having a problem with some websites at my house. There are certain websites I cannot access on any of the computers we have at home, but I can access them on my Nintendo DS. A few of the sites are:

Occasionally questionablecontent.net can be accessed from a computer at home, but most of the time it cannot. None of the other websites ever work on a computer at home.

So originally I thought it was some virus that happened to be picked up on all 3 desktop computers and the laptop, and I have run multiple virus scans with AVG over the last several months to no avail. Some things were found, and removed, but the problem was not solved. I have turned off the Windows Firewall to see if I could access any of the sites at home, and that did not work either. One day at school I tried accessing the above websites on my laptop, and they worked without a problem. I also went a friend's house for a LAN 2 weeks ago, and I could access the websites on my desktop computer. It made me thing that maybe it was something with the Netgear router we are using at home. The fact that I can access the sites on my DS though makes me think that is not the problem. Just in case, I went to the router settings to see if somehow any of those sites got set to be blocked, but there is nothing on the blocked sites list for the router.

I am at a loss as to what the problem could be since they work on the DS at home... Read more

One thing you can try that has worked for me and others with similar problem is changing your DNS server. You can always revert back if this does not resolve the problem or leave it. How to change to OpenDNS: Using OpenDNS On Your Windows Vista PC

I posted this in other tech support forums, nobody seems to be able to help me there. Decided to try out this forum.
All of the info is here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/computer-randomly-shut-off-now-sound-doesnt-work-1028785.html#post6563153
To sum it up, my laptop randomly shut off one day (as if the battery was removed) and the sound stopped working when I started it back up. Someone said it overheated. The fan was faulty (worked... kinda), so I thought that might have been true, got it replaced. Computer shut off again in the same way about a week and a half or so later, but was only warm to the touch -- it's been much warmer before without shutting off.
Anyways since it shut off the first time, the sound stopped working, and the drivers for it have had yellow flags and the following message: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
Any attempt to delete and re-install the drivers has been unsuccessful so far.
Any help in solving this issue would be greatly appreciated!

A:Computer Randomly Shut Off, Now Computer Can't Bleep (Sound Doesn't Work)

Faulty fan...shutoffs from overheating...my personal opinion is that the system could have resulted in motherboard damage.
What did the person who replaced the fan...have to say about all this, subsequent to fan replacement?

Hi Tech Support Guys and Gals,
I was using my Hp laptop and the screen randomly froze. I manually powered off the computer and now when I turn it on, I hear one longer beep followed by two short ones. In addition, the screen doesn't work. If I let the computer keep working and boot up, I eventually hear the welcome screen theme play so it seems like the computer keeps functioning, but the monitor won't work. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
