Solved: Cannot Detect Wireless Card

Q: Solved: Cannot Detect Wireless Card

Hello,

I recently purchased a used laptop from a local school district and I have been trying to access the wireless internet connection I have at home - but I can't.

It can connect to the internet through the ethernet cable. It came with "IBM Access Connections", a connections managing program that lets me switch between the default "USD XXX Wireless" network (The school district's default wireless connection), "Out of District" (also came when I bought the computer) and "My House", the network I created to connect the laptop to the internet at home (that I'm forced to use an ethernet cable with).

In the Control Panel, an icon "Wireless LAN Settings" is available, that gives me the message "Unable to Connect to the Wireless NetCard. Is it inserted?".

All of these clues of wireless connections that once were lead me to believe that the 'NetCard' that allows for wireless connections was removed before the laptop was given to me. Is there somewhere I can check to see if this hardware exists or is configured correctly?
This computer is an

IBM ThinkPad R31
Windows 2000
Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection*

*This is, I think, the adapter that lets me connect to the internet through ethernet. When I try to switch to "USD XXX Wireless" configuration, a message of ...

"Switching to another adapter...
Switching to another adapter..."

...appears before the computer tells me that the "Connection Failed".

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I am having an issue connecting to any wireless network. Problem's existed for 2 days for unknown reason. I have uninstalled and installed and then updated drivers. I also disabled and enabled the respective services from "services.msc" but no go.

I typed "cmd ipconfig /all" and that's what I received.

Hello all. I came across this website and forum through searching for this problem. I've come across similar problems but they all either end with the person taking their computer to a shop or it goes unsolved.

Here is the issue:
My computer (Dell Vostro 1500 with Windows XP) will not detect the wireless network we have here at home. The wireless card is an Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG. The laptop has a light that shows if WiFi is on or not. Whenever I turn on the laptop, the light is usually on but not detecting any wireless network (either ours or someone else's).

-This started happening about three weeks ago. There was no damage to the computer. I reformatted the laptop and reinstalled all the drivers but the problem persisted.
-Turns out one of our cats had thrown up on the router we had at the time so I figured that was the problem and waited until we got another one.
-The new one came yesterday and everything was working fine. A couple hours later the problem resurfaced.

I rolled back the driver thinking maybe that was the issue but apparently it wasn't. I tried uninstalling the wireless card and reinstalling. The only thing that accomplished was deleting the profile I had on there. I've tried the simple repair option but that hasn't worked.

I know the router is broadcasting a signal because everyone else in the house is getting the connection.

Here is what is displayed when I do the IPCONFIG/ALL in CMD:

Hi

I bought an Acer 2301 laptop a few months ago. It has an Acer IPN 2220 wireless LAN card. A few days ago I visited my brother who has a wireless network set up in his house ? DLINK ADSL broadband router. He uses the wireless network for 1 Pc and 2 laptops. As I had my laptop I tried to connect to this network but couldn?t. I tried finding wireless networks and it said there were no wireless networks found in range. I disabled and re-enabled the LAN card. I uninstalled and re-installed it. I disabled my firewall. All to no avail. The network is not running encrypted and my brother said he had no trouble connecting all his wireless cards. Can anyone explain why my wireless LAN card couldn?t find anything?

Thanks

A:Wireless Lan Card Cant Detect Network

there could be several reasons for this, the card could have simply had its "radio" turned off. Most internal cards have a switch function to turn on and off their ability to detect networks. This is usually either a special button or a key combo. Check the BIOS, the card may have to be enabled in there as well as in device manager. Some systems I've encountered come with wireless disabled in the BIOS as default. Also, are you sure your brother's router was "broadcasting" its SSID. Most routers have the ability to turn this off. This causes you to have to know the SSID and config the card manually.

Hello,

I have a Inspiron 1520 with a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN mini Card. Lately I noticed that if I left the laptop on (or maybe just restart, not sure, don't want to test it right now) and let it go to sleep and then turn it back on, it won't detect any wireless networks. I have to wait 10-15 minutes before it can detect networks again, I don't know what to do. I know its not the router, since it can't detect other networks either which there are a few around. I have this laptop for almost a year now. It worked just fine till recently. I think it is the network card, the driver or the hardware, I don't know, but while it just start up, it takes forever for the wireless to start detecting again. Anyone know why and what can I do about it. (BTW, I reformatted in hope it will fix it, it didn't).

My building has a free wifi service. There are routers on each floor. My computer has built in wireless lan. It will recognize signals from those who have installed ATT's 2wire system, but not a single signal from and othe routers in the building. I am now using a usb wifi adapter which has detected all the signals. I have reinstalled the drivers and tried to connect the wireless lan but it has been unsuccessful. The windows connection software will not work. It seems strange to be able to detect the ATT connections but not any of the buildings signals.

I'm hoping you guys can help...

I upgraded my mobo, cpu, ram and video card today. I kept my HDD, optical drives, and my wireless adapter (Edimax EW-7128g)

In my zeal to install my new components I had forgotten to uninstall the drivers of the edimax, which I was going to keep, and my old ATI radeon, which I was replacing.

After installing the new components, every thing started up fine, except the edimax wireless adapter would refuse to connect, or even detect any wireless networks. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers countless times, swapped the wireless card around in the different pci slots, but still came up with the same problem.

I noticed that when I checked the network adapters in control panel, it would keep calling the Edimax "wireless adapter (2)" or "wireless adapter (3)" depending on which pci slot I put it in. I would try renaming it to simply "wireless adapter" but it would state that an adapter by that name already exists. I'm guessing this is some holdover from being connected to the old motherboard.

In short, new mobo recognizes the card, latest drivers for windows 7 are installed, but windows keeps telling me there's an error with the drivers, and every time I try and search for wireless connections, it won't even search...it will just say "no connections available." Was this whole issue precipitated by forgetting to uninstall the drivers and the card itself before upgrading my mobo?

A:Upgraded motherboard & cpu, now wireless card won't detect networks

have you re-installed the software and chipset drivers etc - or are you hoping the Harddrive with the software on works ?

Normally you would re-install the windows software onto the new hardware - as you may get a few issues

can you do this

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Device Manager}
Post back the results in device manager
Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
windows 7
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X
post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here
------------------------------------------------------------------------

i suspect the best way is to remove the wireless adapter from device manager and re-install - lets see the above

Hi, here is an e-mail I sent to Belkin tech support ... but I haven't heard back so I thought I'd try here. Can anyone help me?

Hi, I'm trying to set up a Belkin F5D6020 ver2 wireless adapter on my IBM 233mhz laptop running WIN98se. I want to connect to my existing wired network. I have a cable modem connected to my Belkin F5D6231-4 router. I have 2 PCs connected to the router via ethernet cable. The wired part of the network is working beautifully. All wired PCs can talk to each other. When I have my wired network adapter installed on the laptop, it works great too.

I installed the installation software on the laptop using the EASY option. I plug in the adapter card when prompted and Windows installs the drivers. My computer doesn’t ask me to restart so I restart manually. The monitor utility comes up and, after a minute, a warning message displays ‘The access point you are attempting to access does not appear to exist. Please select the new one’. The prompts on the utility screen read:

Profile name: Default
Operating mode: infrastructure
Channel = 3 (greyed out)
SSID = ANY
Tx Rate = Auto
MAC address = 00-30-BD-D2-BF-06
status = scanning

There is no signal strength or link quality. I click on the site survey tab and there is nothing listed. I click rescan and still nothing. The green link LED on the card is flashing. The WLAN light on the router is solid green.

On my PC web browser I go to http://192.168.2.1/ to access the router set up utility.

I have an older Medion akoya p6618 laptop running W7 x86. The option for wireless in windows has vanished, like the pc doesn't have a wireless card, just as it would appear on a normal desktop pc - only LAN. It works fine with cable. Device manager shows no wireless option either. I have tried system restore, then formatting and dl'ing wlan and lan drivers from the medion website. Same problem. When i try to enable wifi using the Fn keyboard shortcut, nothing happens. The little led does not turn on.

At this point I'm feeling like card is just broken and that it is a hardware issue. What do you think? I'm considering buying a dongle like this one (TP-LINK TL-WN725N Netv?rksadapter USB 2.0 | Model: TL-WN725N | pc-lager.dk). Would this thing enable me to have wifi?

Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that when I did a system restore it worked temporarily and I had internet access, but after a restart it stopped working. In the past it was hit or miss whether or not it would work, so again I'm leaning towards a hardware issue. Maybe there are some things I missed, though.

I searched the forum for this problem but found nothing. I was installing a new pcmcia serial card on my Dell Latitude D500 because I broke the old one. Before the drivers installed I realized that the drivers for the old card had not been uninstalled so I tried to stop the process so that I wouldn't get a conflict. Windows installed the wrong drivers and I got the message that my hardware might not work properly. I clicked ok before I realized the box was checked that said"do not ask to install this hardware again". I have the correct drivers but windows will not recognize the card. How do I reverse the "do not ask to install this hardware again"?

Hi there,

I am using a Belkin Wireless Router, and just spent the last 2 hours on the phone with the tech person trying to fix the connection to my cable modem. The connection between the router-modem-wired computer now seems to be working fine.

However, from my laptop, I cannot detect any wireless networks. I just came back from China, and the computer detected wireless networks there, but now doesn't recognize any at home. Usually there are 3-4 networks in the area.

My wireless switch is ON. I checked device manager, and 1394 Net Adapter #2 was disabled; I enabled it. Everything else (including Wireless 2200BG Network Connection) seems to be enabled and working fine.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I use my wireless network at home, perfectly fine. Sometimes I'll go hardwired if I'm doing a lot of uploading.

Recently went on a trip and stayed in 3 different hotels. Hotel 1, I was able to connect my laptop to their wireless, no problem. When I got to the second hotel, my laptop would not detect the wireless. So I pulled out my other laptop and volia... wireless. So its clearly an issue with my first laptop. I've since gotten back home and attempted to connect to my own wireless... and bam! nothing.

I do NOT have a wireless switch on my laptop anywhere, so its not a case of accidently disabling the wireless. For my HP to disable, I have to go to the wireless network connection and right click to disable or enable. Its currently enabled. The adaper says its working correctly.

When I run ipconfig my IP address (when wired) is 192.168.1.100

We have a wireless home network and there are four different computers that can pick up the signal and use the internet no problem, including two laptops, a tower PC and an iPhone.

There is a third laptop that will not pick up the router signal (a Thomson TG585 v7). It connects fine when connected to the router via cable, but won't detect the wireless signal. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite running XP Home SP2.

The really weird thing is that the laptop can pick up every other wireless connection in the street. Any ideas why it won't pick up this one? I've done several searches across the web and can't find an issue of this kind or compatibility issues between the router and the machine. Any idea what's going on?

Hello all. I decided to switch to the newest version of the Forceware drivers for my Geforce 4 4200Ti graphics card today. I was running the 61.77 Forceware drivers, and planned on switching to the 71.84 (latest certified version) drivers. I created a System Restore point in XP, and then removed my old drivers via the Add/Remove Programs utility in the Control Panel. I then restarted my computer, and on startup Windows autodetected my graphics card. I cancelled out of the autodetect wizard in order to run the 71.84 install file, which I had already downloaded. Upon executing the install file, the drivers were unzipped to the temporary NVIDIA folder, but immediately after this I got an error message saying the NVIDIA installation could not detect a compatible display device.

I also tried getting windows to detect my card through the Add New Hardware util, but windows was unable to see my card there. I have no idea what could be causing this problem whatsoever. I was thinking maybe you folks could help me out with this one. Thanks for your time.

A:Solved: Forceware 71.84 doesn't detect my card!

You should not cancel the Found New Hardware Wizard but let it go through so that Windows installs its generic drivers. Once they are install the Forceware installation should work.

any other PCs working OK on your home wireless ?

can you run xirrus please and post a screen shot

its possible the router is on auto channel and may have changed to wireless channel 12 or 13 which is allowed across the world except for north america and if the equipment you have is set for the american market , you may not pickup that channel

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

Hello,

I have a laptop dell xps M1210 with Intel(R) PROSet 3495 ABG. It has been working well for several years.

Yesterday morning I got an error: "Problem applying profile", then it couldn't been connected.

I did a lot of things.
1) Update the driver from 10.5 to version 12.1
2) Make sure "Wireless Zero Configuration" service started.
3) Uninstall the wireless adapter and reinstall it.
4) reboot the machine.
....

It is not working today. The error becomes "Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software was unable to detect a supported wireless adapter.".
By checking the device manager for connectivity, everything looks good.

One thing I must mention is sometimes I got an error that is "Microsoft Help and Support Center has encountered a problem and needs to close...."

The detail is Error signature
AppName:helpctr.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.5512 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.5512 Offset: 0000100b.

I am frustered but I don't want to reinstall windows system.
My OS is win xp pro sp3.

Thanks for your reading and help.

i have an acer laptop and recently updated my computer with th latest intel pro/wireless software. and this is what happened.

When I right click on the Wireless icon -everything is greyed out except for
OPEN INTEL PROset WIRELESS and OPEN INTEL WIRELESS TROUBLESHOOTER.
- When I click the Troubleshooter the message is CURRENTLY THERE ARE NO
ISSUES REPORTED.
-When I click on OPEN Intel proset Wireless the pop says Intel
PROset/Wireless was unable to detect a supported wireless adapter. Pls.
install a supported wireless adapter.

* If I go to drivers and look at Network Adapters - it shows Intel
PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection in green but if I right click it, I
see a pop-up that says ADAPTER STATE NOT FOUND IN REGISTRY. If I click OK
button on the pop up, it shows a window with 5 tabs( General,
Advanced,Driver, Details, Resources) - In the general category its says"
This device is working properly" and the Device usage shows Device enabled.

i uninstalled both the drivers and the sofware and reverted to the old one but to no success.
after doin a lot of research i have to come to know a piece of program that tells me that i have 3 wireless adapters. probably the duplicates? but how do i remove them and make my wireless right

Hello!

I will start this off by freely admitting I'm not great with computers and usually don't know what I'm talking about.

I have an Acer Aspire 4720Z laptop.
I recently wiped it clean and installed Windows XP, and have not been able to connect to wireless internet ever since.
I used the Acer website to download the drivers, extracted all the files, etc.

When I open Intel PROSet/Wireless, I get an error message that it is "unable to detect a supported wireless adapter. Please install a supported adapter."

Also, Intel PROSet/Wireless does not appear on my Device Manager. (The only things that are listed under "Network adapters" is 1394 Net Adapter and Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet.) I feel like that's probably part of the problem, even if I'm not sure why, haha.

What can I do to get my wireless access back?

Thank you.

I've had wireless on this pc before. A while back, we had a tech come out from out internet provider to fix a few things, and we told him we already have a few other devices on our wireless network, so it may be a better idea to connect through an ether-net cord to our main pc for a more secure connection.

That has worked fine for the most part, but now there's a different problem, and I think I need to be able to connect wireless in order to fix it.
If it matters, the problem is, that any game I try to patch via the game launcher, times-out.
I actually spoke with a CSR from Square Enix, he said it may have to do with the port-forwarding, then I spoke with a rep in technical support from our local provider, and she said there is no port forwarding through the(ir) ether-net but it is available through wireless.

So, that's essential what has brought me here.
I'll upload a couple of pics, so you can actually see that:
A: There is no wireless enabled on my pc at all and
B: There's no wireless driver - just the one on my driver list that, tbh, I don't know much about.

I've already tried uninstalling the driver then re-installing, (didn't detect anything).
I've tried power-cycling my modem.
I've messed around with every option in the "Network and Internet" settings in my control panel.
I've checked all around the outside of my pc, JUST IN CASE it's weird and has a switch somewhere that enables/disables wireless.
Just to confirm, yes, there is indeed... Read more

Hello! Registered because I really need help.

My Compaq laptop (Vista) was working just fine last night, connected to my home wireless network all right and all. Today morning my laptop couldn't detect my home wireless network at all, but it could still detect a bunch of other networks from the neighbours. My iPhone can detect my network with no problems, my desktop computer is wired up to the router, works fine too. It's a D-Link DIR-655. This has happened before but usually gets solved when I reboot (switching off and on) my router. I've tried that, tried restarting my computer too, no use. Haven't tried anything beyond that because I'm an idiot with computers.

Can anyone help me please? Thank you.

Hi,
I just recently did a Complete System Restore on my laptop, and I found that the laptop no longer has my wireless card up and running. I've searched and found that it has some type of file called a Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility, but I can't open it or do anything with it. It is a .cpl file. Will this help me re-install the wireless card, or is it something else? I was just wondering how I can get this back as this is my only way to connect to the internet. I have a Dell Inspirion 9300.
