thunderbird displays 3 trash cans; cannot delete the 2 extra

Q: thunderbird displays 3 trash cans; cannot delete the 2 extra

Thunderbird 45 on Windows 10 displays trash cans 3 times:
One as a sub"folder" of the Inbox
one as a sub"folder" of Local folders
one as its own folder.

when an email gets deleted from, for example, the Inbox, it goes into the trash bin in that folder. when I empyty that trash, it goes into the main trash folder and when I empty that trash it may go into the local folders' trash which then also has to be emptied. It's an irrirating problem.

I cannot find an option to delete the extra trash bins either by right clicking or in the menus. when looking at the properties on the trash to determine its disk location, the pathname is a url-like address beginning with imap://

Any ideas as to how I can reduce the numer of trash bins to 1?

Thanks for your help.

Preferred Solution: thunderbird displays 3 trash cans; cannot delete the 2 extra

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Having a challenge here - when I try to open my trash folder, it shows 82 emails, 2 unread, but does not show them (line listed) at all. The program just sits and cycles never going anywhere.

I have tried compacting all folders, have emptied the trash in my local folders list - nothing seems to help.
Would appreciate you ideas.........thank you.

I'm using the latest Thunderbird program 38.2.0 on an XP machine. I've used it for about 2 months. The problem is when I delete messages, Sometimes I get an error stating not enough memory-(see attached) then I happened to notice the trash folder was gone. If I close Thunderbird and reopen it the trash folder is back and everything works correctly for a few days. I compact folder every time I use Thunderbird. Any ideas?
Thx.

I wanted to move some e-mails to my Trash listing on the left and it wasn't there. GONE. Just like that! This never happened before.

There was a one-line notice at the bottom of the screen that I had never seen before, that said something about removing something to the Trash. I wanted to see what it was, but the Trash listing was gone.

I restarted my computer but the Trash listing still was not there.

Help please. Thanks.

I have a file that I was downloading when the power went out. I now have an icon in my download folder that can't be deleted. Whenever I try to delete the file I get a message indicating that the file is in use by some application and that I should quit any programs that may be using it. I checked and there is nothing running in the background, and I've even restarted several times but am still unable to delete the file.
Just to be safe I had Nortons run a scan on the file and even tried the "Secure Wipe" feature in Norton System Works but still no go.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can trash this little MoFo?

Thanks in advance.

Here's a question that has been posted probably thousands of times. Can item, files, pictures be deleted out of the recycle bin with no fear of loosing what you don't want to loose? I have hundreds of photos in my trash that I do not remember ever placing there. Vacation pictures that I don't recall deleting. This is why I have never emptied the recycle bin. Consequently there are over a thousand files there. I can see the files I intentionally put there but there are hundred more that I don't recall putting there.

Question: can I empty the recycle bin without any fear that I will delete an original image?

Brian

A:Recycle Bin, Trash Bin, etc. fear to delete

Emptying the Recycle Bin will delete all the items that are in it, but it will not delete files or photos that are located elsewhere on the computer.

If you have any photos in the Recycle Bin that you wish to keep you need to restore that item to it's original place. Once you have emptied the Recycle Bin all items will be deleted.

Hello,

System: Windows 10 Home, Version 1703, OS Build 15063.674, Outlook 2016 (all MS s/w fully updated).
Hardware: I7 chip-based laptop with 16 GB RAM

Issue:
I deleted two folders for which I had no further need. They went into the "Trash" folder in Outlook 2016. When I try to delete them permanently, however, I find that I cannot as they are recreated in seconds in the Trash folder.

Question:
How may I delete these folders permanently?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello. I'm in the process of searching for a new PC notebook (I'm in the market for a 17 to 18 inch display), and I've come across a couple laptops that mention having an "extra-wide" display or a "130-degree ultra-wide viewing angle" and things to that effect. I wanted to ask some questions about this:

1.) Does this extra-wide display entail a better picture or resolution or something like that, or is it just wider?

2.) Will an extra-wide display like this make widescreen bars (the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen when watching a movie) more likely? Will the wider display cause these bars to be bigger or appear more often on movies (or games or anything else) where they wouldn't have on a regular width display?

My computer will have a 17-18 inch display, it will be 1080p, and will be Blu-ray enabled. I'm very concerned with getting the best picture possible, so I'd like to know if the extra-wide display will contribute to that, but I'm also heavily annoyed by widescreen bars at the top and bottom of my movies and whatnot, so if the primary effect of the extra-wide display is simply a wider screen that will have more bars more often, then I'd like to know that.

Any help here is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

A:Need help with "extra-wide" PC notebook displays

It really depends as much on the graphics card as the screen itself, and there is no reliable way to know. You have to see it setup and play with the display settings.
However, If you select a true high end laptop should be fine. Others will make the images look stretched, but user quickly get used to it. One would think that 1080p would be a guarantee of good screen performance, but it is not.
If you are getting a computer that is in the upper third of its price and model range, you usually get the good screen combination in my experience... HP, Dell, Sony, and Lenovo anyway. You will have to avoid budget laptops.

When I setup WinXP it forced me to make another account, so I did planning to delete it later. I just want one user, the administrator account and no other users. Unfortunately I cannot delete the other account I made (which is also an administrator), nor can I change it from being an administrator. It won't let me from the user management thingy in the control panel. How can I delete that other useless account?

A:Cannot delete extra user account

ok, when you set this account up, you set it to be an administrator...

so now you have two accounts that are administrator...

you should be able to log into the main one and delete the other one...

if you can't, then one of them must not have admin priviledges.

i don't know why it would be posing a problem in your situation, as i do this all the time, making accounts with admin priviledges, and then deleting them after some time...

to delete an account, it must NOT be logged on at the time, and the account that Is logged on must have admin priviledges...

let me know what happens, error messages and all.

So my windows is xp home edition. Its all in Polish language and uses Latin Font as default.
While browsing chinesse websites IE asked me if i want to install chinesse language pack - which by mistake i did. I didnt put up the windows cd though.
Now everything is fine but when i browse chinesse sites i see the real chinesse font instead of strange sings like before.

Of course thats susposed to be good since now this sites at least look good but because some of scripts i wrote cant use the 'real chinesse fonts' i want to get back to my old install without this fonts. How can i do that?

A:Delete extra installed language for IE7

Try going to Internet Options then at the bottom of the window click Languages. If Chinese is on that list, select it and click remove. Also, you can go to Add and Remove programs and tick the little box that says show updates, and look for anything that has to do with a Chinese Language Pack. Microsoft says theres no way to uninstall them so Good Luck

I recently had trouble with my drive, (running windows 2000 Pro), so I did a clean format on it. Problem is, it wasn't until later, after I began working with machine (installing everything back), that I realized, I have an extra partition made by mistake.<>

My C drive has about on 7-8 MB of space. Then of course, the E drive, took the space it needs for my sound card, etc. I am working on the D drive which has the remaining of 80 MB. Of course, it should be the C drive.<>

Now, my question if anyone knows if it can be done, and can explain it to me thoroughly, so that I can understand how to do it. Is it possible for me to delete the "C" partition, rename the "D" partition back to "C" and leave everything in tact. In other words, where I won't loose anything on my "D" partition? I don't care if I lose what little there is on the "C", as it is unimportant, and haven't really been using it. Looks like most of what was supposed to be is still going into the "D" and "E" partitions.<>

Thanks ahead, for any and all help you can give me. Like I said though, this is something new, and not even sure it can be done, but if so, would like explicit directions.

I'm on so many meds anymore, that my mind just doesn't think as fast as it once did.

Hello

Before i begin some things i'd like to note;
I don't do file or printer sharing etcIPv6 has always been disabled on my wireless adapter, I felt no need for it and never had any issues (please correct me if I'm wrong).

As you can see from the image below I have multiple network adapters.

The 2 Realtek adapters are my Ethernet & Wireless adapters so those are fine, but what on earth are all the other ones? I'm pretty worried so can anyone feel me in.

===================================================================
Update

From the image below you can see they show up under ipconfig too, I don't want them on my computer so how do i go about removing them?
Note: LAN 2 & 4 are related to the microsoft virtual adapter we saw in the photo above. (no clue what that is/does).

The white boxes were just a precaution. I'm not very good with computers so it might be pointless, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

I also went to network connections in control panel and it only shows my Ethernet and my wireless adapter, nothing else shows so I'm not sure why all these adapters are showing up on device manager.
Thanks in advance.

A:Can I delete all these extra Network Adapters?

Those are IPv6 Virtual adapters that are "Hidden". They are added when IPv6 is enabled on any network connection. Removing them, can cause issues when trying to connect to websites that only use IPv6.

History: My wireless connection was not refreshing when re-enabling it. I reinstalled the driver and now my connection is refreshing as expected now and is pointing to the first wireless connection. However, I see that I now have two wireless connections!?

Questions: When I right-click on the extra wireless connection to remove it, there is no DELETE choice! I'd rather not leave disabled nor rename it. 1) How do I delete it? Or 2) should I just restore to my last restore point?

Thanks!

A:Want to delete extra Wireless Network connection

I'm not sure exactly where you are stuck so I'll try to explain this both ways.

You can usually go to the "network and sharing center" then in the left collum choose "manage wireless connections" where you should be able to delate the old wireless credentials.

If that doesn't work go to control panel then to device manager, choose "view" top of page then "show hidden devices", this should get you a list of your network adaptors where you should be able to delate or uninstall the extra ones.

Cloning a old system into a new system will not work well at all.
If the old system was anything other that Retail Windows 7 you will also need a new COA key to activate.

The dirvers and chipset will be different between the old computer and the new computer in most cases.

New computer should have a Clean Install of Windows 7 and the programs you so desire.

When you click on the e-mail, a box should open with delete in it. To delete all e-mails, select from the edit menu, "select all" and then click the delete button in the upper left hand corner of the mail toolbar. You can also delete by selecting the message and clicking delete in the mail toolbar. If you do not see the mail toolbar, go to "view" in the menu bar and click on toolbars and check "mail toolbar".

Have you open TB under a Admin account? May have to do that to have the rights.

I have just reinstalled Win7 Pro 64 bit on my new SSD disc which has 2 partitions, C containing the operating system, and D where I have my documents located. In addition I have another disc, E, which I use to save backups on, and a third disc with my F drive for storing pictures.

Somehow, when doing a clean install of Win7 the F drive has become a System drive. This means that when I do a System Image it includes the F drive. How can I change the F drive from System, Active, Primary Partition to just a Primary Partition so that only the C drive is included in the System Image?

Formatting the F drive does not work, unsurprisingly, but I am hoping that there is a way to do what I want without having to reinstall, which has taken me over one day so far.

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Management drive map and listings:

1. Type Disk Management in Start Search box.
2. Open Disk Mgmt. window and maximize it.
3. Type Snipping Tool in Start Search box.
4. Open Snipping Tool, choose Rectangular Snip, draw a box around full map and all listings.
5, Save Snip, attach using paper clip in Reply Box.

We will confirm that the normal procedure to Mark Win7 Partition Active then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times will not run into any problems.

I use Mailwasher Pro to 1st check email. Within it, I delete email that I don't want to download. Then use Thunderbird to download the mail. I have 2 email accounts, Gmail and Hotmail. If I I do "Get All New Messages", it downloads them. What it doesn't do is remove the mail from Hotmail off the server. If I check Hotmail by itself, then the mail on the server is removed.

Both Accounts are set up correctly, I've double and triple checked the settings. How do I know that the mail is still on Hotmail's server? Because it shows in Mailwasher. And if I download the email again from Hotmail, I then have a 2nd copy of the original email. I can have Mailwasher delete the mail left on Hotmail, but it's a pain.

This is not a problem with GMail, only Hotmail.

TIA

I am a new member and this is my first post about Thunderbird email. Please excuse me if I posted in the wrong place.

I am using Thunderbird 7.0.1 with IMAP on a Windows 7 Professional 32 bit machine. I have Thunderbird setup for IMAP.

When I delete a message on my Android Cell phone using IMAP the messages delete immediately.

Periodically like today, when I want to delete an email from my Thunderbird Inbox or from the Junk folder I repeated hit the delete key on the keyboard or from the toolbar and the messages do not delete - the email stays in the folder.

Sometimes the messages delete OK but many times like today they don't delete.

Since I do not have this issue with my Android phone I am thinking Thunderbird is not communicating with the server. My incoming and outgoing mail is always OK.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem may be and how to fix it?

Thanks.

Does anyone know if there's a way to make Thunderbird ask for a confirmation before deleting? I've searched all the options two or three times and couldn't find anything. It seems to work the same on both my computer and my mom's, it just deletes without a warning.

Thanks!

I can't find any option to display a confirmation message, but you can go to Tools > Account Settings, then click Disc Space for each email account and put a checkmark in the 'Don't delete any messages' box.

Recent AVAST free AV scans have returned several infected files on my laptop. I'm supposed to have the option to either repair them, move them to the chest, or delete them. The instructions read "select the required action for each result and click 'Apply'" My problem is that the "Apply" button does not work. I selected Move to Chest and clicked "Apply," but nothing at all happened.

As of late, my AVAST virus scan results have been difficult to figure. More than once I've run a scan which indicated that there were one or more viruses, which, as described above, I was unable to manage. However, when I immediately ran another scan it showed no infected file(s). Also, one regular scan turned up an infected file (also unmanageable), but the Boot Scan I ran immediately thereafter indicated there were no infected files! Also, the results invariably state that "some files could not be scanned."

More often than not my recent AV scans have indicated one or more infected files. Could it be that these results are false positives?

One further note. Just before running HijackThis, I got the following message:

For some reason your system denied write access to Hosts file. If any hijack domains are in this file HijackThis may not be able to fix this.

If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. To do this, click start,Run and type:

notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\Hosts

and press enter. find the line(s) Hija... Read more

Hi all

Just joined the forum J

I have just upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit and I notice that after installation I now have two program File directorys. One called ?Program Files? and the other ?Program Files (x86).

Do I need both or can I delete the ?Program Files? one which I am guessing is the old 32 bit stuff.

By way of further information: I started out with Windows XP installed. I then did a upgrade install of windows 7 32 bit. I then decided to go 64 bit so I used the custom/fresh install option of the 64 bit upgrade which has left me with this possibly redundant ?Program Files? directory.

Any help of suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance

Kenny
