Unable to install, ... Word 2000 on Refurbished DELL/XP pro.

Q: Unable to install, ... Word 2000 on Refurbished DELL/XP pro.

I purchased the DELL refurbished PC/XP professional with SP3 the other day because I still love to use XP once awhile, although I have two other PCs with Win 7, respectively.

The problem is that I can NOT install Word 2000, ....
error message popping up in the middle of the screen.

Error: 1305
Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

In my guess, there is NO MS word pre-loaded on this, refurbished DELL pc.
There is no platform to install MS Word 2000?
All of the PCs are already pre-installed MS 2010 or 2007 upon installation.

If that's causing the problem, how to make the installation proceed?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Preferred Solution: Unable to install, ... Word 2000 on Refurbished DELL/XP pro.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You didn't advise where you bought your refurbished Dell from, and you didn't advise what model name and model number it is.

I've bought 6 refurbished Dell desktops and laptops in the past year from www.newegg.com and www.overstock.com, and none of them came with a version of Microsoft Office pre-installed.

Hello, I am a consultant in central Texas and I have a customer that does not recall the chronology of how he got into this situation but basically, I'll attempt to explain. He has Word 2000 installed on an XP Pro machine. He wants to do a mailing that 2000 is unable to handle. We found that 97 will do the desired process with no problem. I tried to install Word 97 to his computer but the setup program indicates that 97 is already on the machine. There is no trace of Word 97 that I can find. The customer thinks that he has vacillated between 97 and 2000 at least twice. I just want both on this machine at the same time. I could uninstall both and then reinstall 2000 then 97 and I think it will work but I was hoping to avoid the uninstalls. Any ideas?

A:Unable to install Word 97 on Word 2000 machine

It sounds like Uncle Bill left some fragments in the registry (or, hopefully, just a file used to flag Word'97's presence).

Hopefully you are using "My Documents" to save everything created in MSWord (either version); that will make it pretty easy to back up the files you don't want to take chances on. Burn a couple CDs or DVDs as needed/if available.

Check the Add/Delete Programs- to see which version/s are installed. I would uninstall each one- re-starting the computer between uninstalls.

With operating systems it makes a difference in which order they are installed; I would follow the same rule for the same reasons--- install the older one first (Word 97). Paranoia makes me want to shut down & reboot between versions. Then install Word 2000.

Good luck.

I wanted to install Constant Guard (from Comcast) on my Dell Desktop (Service Tag: 38JSL21) that I refurbished myself, but it said that I didn't have enough RAM. I have 512MB RAM running Windows XP, and Constant Guard says I have 511MB and can't install it.

This only happens with office (i.e. word, excel) and works.
I have no prob with any other programs...

A:Unable to save as word 2000 to 98 machine

If the place where you are trying to save your file is unavailable, save the file to a different location.

If you have tried to use an unusual character in the file name, remove it from the file name.

For example, the error message

The folder "(path)" isn't accessible. It may be on an unavailable volume, or protected with a password."

...is either caused by a genuinely unavailable destination, or it can be caused by having the "<" or ">" symbol in the file name.

Or.... Click Save As and save the file as an .rtf file insted.

After recent full system recovery caused by one or more virus, I am unable to re-install Microsoft Word or Word Perfect on my Compaq Presario, which has Windows XP. Microsoft Word will sometimes start the process but then just stops, giving no indication of what steps to take next or what the problem is. Word Perfect seems to start the process each time but then gets hung up with updating what it describes as the SHFolder.dll. Have waited as long as 20 minutes for this update. The screen does show activity but it just never seems to get done. I cannot take the installation process past that point.

Any suggestions on how I can correct or cure this problem?

A:Unable to install either Microsoft Word or Word Perfect

Check here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q303437/ for some help - probably the .dll is either corrupt or the path not recognized. Depending on whether or not this page helps, either fix it with that or lookup SHFolder.dll. on the net and download a new copy from somewhere like http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?shfolder and install it.

HI, I just installed windows 2000 professional onto my computer. Everything works fine except that the resolution is really grainy. On some web sites I cannot even make out what the words are. I found out that when I go into my monitor settings in display properties I am unable to install the drivers for my monitor. Does anybody know a way in which I can get around this.

A:monitor drivers unable to install on fresh windows 2000 install

Are you really referring to the monitor drivers or the Dispay Adapter drivers? The symptoms you describe sound like the latter issue.

Monitor drivers are no big deal to install, and even if you don't, Windows should use compatible plug and play drivers. Still it's a good idea to install them -- but you get them from the Monitor vendor site. You get the Display Adapter drivers from the Display Adaptor vendor's site.

What Display Adapter model do you have? And are they properly installed?

To install a Monitor driver, you download and unzip the .inf file from the Vendor. Then you select "update driver" and browse to the location of the file you unzipped. Once installed your Monitor should be recognized by model number.

I am encountering an obnoxiously aggravating problem with WORD 2000 SP1, a component of Office 2000, that I can fix via a tedious procedure for a short period of time, but always comes back and causes loss of data at the worst possible time.... So, I am leaning toward reinstalling it, or getting away from using it alltogether via upgrading or even migrating to an entirely different wp.

Any advice on the latter wild idea of migrating away from it? I am considering that new free open source psuedo-office package -- anyone tried it and if so how good or bad is it compared to WORD?

But, back to the reinstall option. Anyone done that? Problems? Lost data? Settings? Is it necessary to reinstall the entire office suite or can WORD be done all by itself?

A:WORD 2000 SP1 re-install or migrate?

You might have to reinstall your office suite
But My question is Exactly What is causing the loss of data , what are you doing when this happens?
you might have a corrupt Operating System or?
If it is a corrupt O.S., you can Use your restore disk>
Just make sure that you use a backup disk for data you want saved.
But do not do that yet!

I was trying to configure Word 2000 to send email, but I can't seem to find the means to configure the bloody thing. I have tried help files, but wasn't much help.

Anybody plz?

A:Microsoft Word 2000 aka MS Word 2000 - Sending Email - Need Help Configuring

Word itself does not send (or receive) e-mail messages. You may configure Word to be your e-mail editor, but it still requires an e-mail program (such as MS Outlook) to send messages.

You can send e-mails from within Word by using File, Send To, Mail Recipient (or Mail Recipient as Attachment), but this still uses Outlook to do the sending and receiving.

I'm considering buying this refurbished HP at an internet cafe that gets old computers wholesale from companies and re-loads the OS. There is also a Dell model. My main questions are:

Whether or not these PCs are defect prone or won't last long ?

Is it better to get a "good for it's time" used PC or a "lower end by today's standard " new PC

Does this sound like a good deal?

Directx V9.0
Windows XP pro.

30 day warranty on parts

Would specifically like know what anyone thinks about the ethernet card...thats not a wi-fi thing right? 'cause i don't want wi-fi.

Does the chipset have decent upgrade potential?
Is a 128 video card ok?

There is also this model :

I don't have anymore stats on that one but I'm mainly concerned with how stable or durable the system is compred to the HP. There are alot of variants of this model at the store. I've heard alot of mixed messages about wether Dell's are good or not but would just need to know how they are compared to the HP above.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop. It came with Windows XP, but I reformatted and installed Windows 2000 professional instead, which I am mostly happy with, but one of my favorite video games can only be played on XP, so now I want to go back to XP. I have Dell's disk called: Reinstallation CD Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. I have the BIOS set so the CDROM boots first, and when I start the computer, the CD is recognized, but then I get an error in DOS saying "Couldn't find NTLDR", and Windows 2000 proceeds to boot.

I've also explored the Dell XP disk and tried installing it that way using setup.exe, but when I go to check system compatability, I get two errors:

"The procedure entry point NtUnloadKeyEx is not in Ntdll.dll."
"Winnt32u.dll could not be loaded or is corrupt"

So I'm dead in the water. Should I try to start my computer with my windows 2000 disk, go through that interface, then somehow make the switch to the Dell XP disk? The problem is, I don't want to have to reformat my computer. (I will though, as a last resort).

Thanks for your help!

A:Can't install Dell's XP disk over Win 2000 on laptop

The Recovery CD is a mirror of the original hardrive when it left the factory. It was designed to bring your laptop back to it's original out of the box condition. For it to work, when it is loaded it compares a varity of things to determine that the laptop is the one it is assigned to. In other words, so you can't use it on another comuter. When you put Win2k on your laptop, the Recovery CD sees this as "another computer" and thus won't work. You probably will have to format the hardrive and wipe it clean and then the CD should work but don't count on it as Recovery CD's on some systems can be quite finicky.

I placed an order on dell outlet for a "new" xps 13 2-in-1 laptop.
It was listed as new so I was assuming it is new.
However, when I received my item it was not packed like what I would expect for new laptop. Therefore, I sent an email to CSR to tell me the condition of my laptop. I was told it was certified refurbished.
Can anyone tell me if this is right? There is price difference between a new and a refurbished one. And why would Dell outlet present it as a new one while it is actually not?

A:Dell Outlet Refurbished vs New

Is there a "refurbished" sticker on the bottom of the system?  If not, it is new - it may have been repackaged but was never used.
Everything sold through the outlet is "refurbished" as defined by the FTC (same goes for replacement parts used for warranty repairs).

Anyone have experience with "refurbished" products from Dell? Particularly laptops? I have a friend that would like to get a laptop but has a pretty limited budget.

It seems like they have some good deals but I wonder about reliability.

A:Dell Refurbished Laptops

I find the refurb Dell to be a far superior buy than new. When you buy new you are often the first person to ever turn on the system, a refurb has been turned on and failed so it is sent back for extensive testing not done to a new system, after testing to make sure it works properly it is now sold at a good discount.

The refurb looks like new and has exactly the same warranty it just cost less. The only area where it is not a better deal is if you need some specific feature, you cannot order them built with extra parts beyond a few.

Dell gets so many refurbs that the best method for buying one is to know what you want ahead of time and what you are willing to pay for it, they have new systems come up for sale several times a day so if you have the time and know what you need it can be a very satisfactory system purchase.

Following my last thread ( 16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem error message on startup) I thought everything was going fine, with no warning messages on startup, but now I have another problem. When I try to install Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 the 589kb WebPage Dialog window gets about half way along its installation bar, the Inspecting current configuration window gets nowhere and eventually I get the message Not enough storage is available to process this command.

Running virus checks (again!) throws up references to winxpM1156.exe and Ica3[1].exe both with the message This archive contains one or more infected files! Infected files in archives will not be deleted or repaired!

Are these part of the same problem, or different ones? If it makes a difference, I intend to use the computer only as a reserve standalone or on the internet, i.e. not as part of a network, so any legacy network software can be safely deleted.
Any ideas, please?

Many thanks in advance for the help. I've been an idle reader for a long time, but just registered because I couldn't quite find help specific to my current issue.

I've just bought a Dell Latitute 6430 refurbished off Amazon -- this one in particular. The "Benny Bookman" review is from me and repeats some of the info I'll be detailing here. If anything in that review is erroneous I'll update.

I feel like the issue is complicated, but it breaks down to two primary issues:

1. I'm not 100% sure that the Windows included on the machine is legit in terms of being for a refurb. I tried to google for details and have bought quite a few refurbs before. The issue here is that there is only one Product ID label on the machine and it's labeled Dell, not "Refurbished". I've never seen this before. But Windows activated on my second attempt without any call to Microsoft, so that was comforting. What's the likelihood that this will be a problem down the road? I've run the MGADT tool and included its results below, but don't know what I'm looking at there.

When I initially booted, I got the "choose your language ... this is permanent" choice with English/Spanish and a 3rd language (maybe French). It seemed legit. But it wouldn't activate at first. I emailed the seller and they asked me double check that I typed it right and then it worked. I have a dell laptop I got about a month ago. Everything had been working perfectly fine and it always turned on... But this morning I tried turning it on and all that happens are the LED lights (power button and under the touch pad) will light up for maybe 5 seconds and then they both fade out. It was working perfectly fine last night. Now a habit of mine is to not actually turn the computer off but just shut it and put it away, so this might have something to do with it... I assumed it just died and I needed to plug it in. I did some research and I took the back cover off and unplugged the battery so I could reset it. I drained the battery and then plugged it back into the motherboard. Still did the same thing. Then I unplugged the battery again and plugged the laptop directly into the wall cord, and it did the same thing. I'm kind of stumped. I don't know if it has something to do with the memory, the motherboard, or what.
Anyways, all help is very appreciated thank you so much!!!

I am dissapointed abut Dell's warranty service. I bought an xps1530, and have full warranty til August'09. Dell'had to change twice the motherboard and I noticed that the parts are refurbihed. If the first replacement lasted a few months, how long will the second? I'm not sure that the replacement of the originally motherboard of my new xps was wright, it seems that it was in better conditions than the one they used to replace that; this second motherboard was changed by another one that seems to be in similar conditions.
When I asked a supervisor to change this parts for new ones he told me that it was impossible, they use refurbished for replacements.
Dell should inform this to theirs buyers, it's not fair to buy a new notebook that has quality problems and  the seller (Dell') is thinking not in the best solution for the customer but in the best solution in terms of money only.

A:Dissapointed: Dell's warranty parts are refurbished

If you read the warranty statement, they DO tell you that they use refurbished parts - so too does every other computer vendor.  Read the terms of your washing machine or car warranty -- same deal there as well.  It's standard practice in just about every industry.

Printing of the document is also fine..it's just the problem with Normal view.

Also, seems like I keep losing the positioning of the picture (network diagram created using autoshapes and MS Draw)

The above problem is not document specific but reflects in all docs files.

Also, in another document, when I double click embedded equations (written using equation editor on another PC), equation editor doesn't launch itself neither is there any error message. This problem is document specific.

Anyone..any ideas?? Please advise!!

I had problems with pictures not getting displayed at all. I could only see blank screen and ocassional picture. This problem was solved by reducing the hardware accelaration. This can be done by display properties->settings->troubleshoot->hardware acceleration. Try lowering it to halfway or less and see if this solves the problem. It solved my problem.

I have a list of doc's on my Word 2010 that I can't open. When I click on these files I get a error window that tells me to (Check file permissions) or (Open with text recovery converter). Where do I find the Text Converter or open and repair feature. I am running Win. 7 Pro 64 bit and Word 2010.
I did a clean install and took my system back to Factory settings, The only files that I can open are some that I created after the clean install. Any help will greatly appreciated. Thanks

My new refurbished Dell Optiplex desktop came with the Windows 7 Professional 64 bit OS and it is working fine. I need suggestions of how to install an internet browser, since there isn't one in it and I can only download the programs I own from the internet. I could use either Google Chrome or Internet Explorer.

A:Need a browser for my refurbished Windows 7 Prof 64 bit Dell desktop

Hello and welcome:

Internet Explorer (IE) comes "built-in" to Windows 7.
If your refurbished computer has been fully updated with Service Pack 1 and all the necessary critical and important patches, you should already have IE11 (the only supported version of IE for Win7).

Firefox can be downloaded here:
Mozilla Firefox Web Browser — Download Firefox in your language — Mozilla

Chrome can be downloaded here:
Chrome Web Browser

To check about your Windows 7 version, click the round Windows "start orb" in the lower left > type "msinfo32" without quotes into the search box > click the "msinfo32.exe" link that appears.
You can post a screen shot of the window that shows your Windows version.

To check your IE version, you can click the IE desktop shortcut icon (or the taskbar icon) to open the program. Then, click the little "gear" icon in the upper right corner, then click "About Internet Explorer". It will say what version IE you have.

My oldest teenage grandson is in need of a "cheap" laptop, so I bought him a refurbished Dell Latitude D630 from NEWEGG for $215.00 plus shipping.

It has a 14" display, an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.83 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 60 GB hard drive, a DVD/CDRW drive, and Windows XP Professional.

My decision to buy this laptop was based on Dell being more reliable than most other laptop brands - according to some members here.

Any input from the members here would be very much appreciated.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5759, Windows 7 Professional.

Since the last MS Update, I am not able to install any Dell drivers.

My Bluetooth adapter disappeared from my Device Manager, it was there before last MS update.

I tried to install the Bluetooth driver again, but received the error message: The update installer operation is unsuccessful.

I have also tried to start the Bluetooth Support Service in SERVICES and received the error message: Windows could not start the Bluetooth Support Service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

I called Dell Support, which, of course, got someone in Asia. He asked me to install several BIOS updates as well as Chipset driver. My laptop is only three months old and everything should be up-to-date before it was shipped to me I do not want to do all those updates afraid that it'll ruin my laptop further.

Does anyone know why I couldn't install the Dell drivers?

Any comments/suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you.

I have Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate installed in it. It was working fine and once I wanted to install synaptics touchpad driver for multi-gesture feature. I tried to install twice or thrice but the installation was getting failed. Thinking that if any other touchpad driver is already installed, it's not possible to install synaptics, I uninstalled Dell touchpad(ALPS touchpad). Consequently the sensitivity of the touch got lost. Again I tried installing synaptics but the installation was being failed.

I tried even to install the ALPS touchpad latest available to my model as well as the one given with the DVD of drivers with my laptop too, but I'd failures again.

Eventually I'm left with a dumb touch without being able to install any good touchpad driver. It's not even possible now to open a folder or any file by a double tap

I don't even know to completely remove everything related to touch and install it newly.

My question is

"Is synaptics not supported in my laptop?"

If it is, please guide me to install it.
If not, please suggest me a way to have the same good touch either by installing ALPS in a different way or by installing any other driver.

Sorry for my poor English.

A:Unable to install Dell touchpad

Hi pras8421 and welcome to Seven Forums.

Where did you try and download the driver? Off the Dell site? If so it should be supported or else they wouldn't post it up.

I just bought a new Precision 3620 that came with Windows 7 and also the Windows 10 pro install DVD. I have it all setup with 7, but i wanted to test out 10 on a separate HD. Im using a brand new drive here and i use UEFI boot to the DVD and i get tot he part where it says reset, troubleshoot, or turn off. So i choose to reset and it says the disc is missing a needed partition. So then i go in to troubleshoot and i select recover from disc and it looks like it loads until it gets to like 89% and it scans all the drives associated with my card reader and it fails to find an image. Then it restarts and then it goes back into the menu where you select reset, troubleshoot or turn off.
Do these disks actually work or do i have to install 7 and then upgrade? Not sure if i am doing something wrong here, but any help is appreciated.

A:Unable to install Windows 10 on a new HD using Dell W10 DVD

You can choose to upgrade to Windows 10 with the disk. You cannot install on a different hard drive if you are trying to upgrade to Windows 10. It has to be the same partition. If you want to install a fresh copy of Windows 10 you must put it on the "C" bootable drive. You also may want to download the Windows 10 drivers and put them on a usb key or burn to a dvd so that you can install them into Windows 10.
Click the link below for information to upgrade to Windows 10

For me to better assist in troubleshooting, please click my DELL-Jesse L and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your Dell Order number.
You would click my name in blue, then on the next page in the upper right corner, click the words "send private message"

Trying to install Windows 98se

Please wait while setup initializes

Setup is now going to perform a routine check on your system

To continue, press ENTER. To quit Setup, press ESC

This version of Microsoft Scandisk will work only with MS-Dos versions 5.0 and later.
Setup found a compressed volume or a disk-cache utility on your computer. Quit setup and check your compressed volume with your disk compression software or remove the disk cache utility.
Then run Setup again.

If you have already done so, press ESC.

This program cannot be run in dos mode

Other alternative I have done is just put the XP CD in and turn the computer on all I get is:-

Replace the disk, and then press any key
