I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Presently I am having the older version 2.02 of BIOS on my Thinkpad 430s. The lenova website version is not desirable for me as it prevents roll back to an earlier version if needed by me. The older versions of BIOS carry 7 digit numbers and updating to any version 2.5 or above which have 10 didgit numbers, will prevent me for ever from rolling back. So I need the version just earlier to 2.5, which happens to be 2.05 as seen from the read me text file of the BIOS version now available on Lenovo website. Please help from where I can download the 2.05 version. After upgrading to WIN10 Pro, my computer is experiencing blue screen errors, the moment I connect to the internet. As long as I dont connect with internet I am able to work on my computer. Analysis using the Who Crashed tool shows the problem to be originating from NIVIDIA NVS 5200 driver and this blue screen death fix was incorporated in version 2.05. Hence this request.thanks in advance.

We have two new Lenovo thinkpad P71, both identical. One of them started to have boot up issue (takes about 2.5 minutes for the first boot up of the day, then any restart during that day will be fine) So, I have been trying to resolve this issue this past couple of days without success. However, I found out that the BIOS version were different on both machine. Both machine requested to update the BIOS after the initial setup. One of them I updated but the other I didn't. The Laptop with the updated BIOS has the version 1.17 (which is odd since the latest version on Lenovo website is 1.16) https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ca/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-p-series-laptops/thinkpad-... The laptop that was not updated has the version 1.15 and it does not have the long boot up time issue. So I was wondering if it was normal to have version 1.17? Also, is it possible and should I go back to version 1.15? Any help / tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi guys, I just want to post an issue that I'm experiencing for your reference. My P50 machine is docked and connected with an external display. When its bios is upgraded to the latest two version, i.e. version 1.39 or 1.40, it cannot be started up properly at docking condition. The external display is dark, while the LCD display seems stuck at "LENOVO" screen. I am unable to access the bios mode at that time. However, when I undock the machine, it begins to start up and ultimately enters  Windows. Then I dock it back, everything works well. I restart the machine and it can also start up properly to Windows. But if I try a "cold" startup, the issue comes back. Now I downgrade the machine to bios version 1.38 and everything works fine. I figure that there could be something wrong with the latest two version of bios. If you want to upgrade your bios and you have the similar configuration as I have, please be aware that you might experience the issue. BRJin

Hello all, I unfortunately spilled coffee on my T470 and the keyboard at this point is no longer in action. Rest of computer seems to be fine. (fingers crossed). Being this is my work computer I have gone ahead and purchased a keyboard replacement opposed to trying any other cleaning methods. Here is my issue, from what I have read I need to disable the internal battery from the BIOS before pulling and replacing keyboard. I am having issues with this as my f1 key is not functioning and my external keyboard is not getting me to the BIOS when I reboot the computer. So Im not sure how to excactly disbable it. Any advise? Could I just unplug the power, pull the removable battery and let the internal battery drain?  Side note, the current keyboard is acting finicky, sticking keys etc/interfering with external keyboard. Its not aweful but its annoying. Can I pull the internal keyboard before I get the replacement and just use the external one? Thanks for the help in advanced.

It's probably a good thing that you are scared.

A BIOS generally should not be updated unless you are having issues and have a strong reason to believe that a BIOS update will resolve those issues.

Why do you want to update the BIOS?

As the title says, top right USB port on my T470 doesn't work after BIOS v1.42 update when device is plugged in on boot.  Non of devices power up when plugged into that port. Naturally there's nothing in dmesg. This is not OS-dependent since devices don't power up in BIOS screen as well. The other 2 ports still work as expected. Restarting doesn't help. After some cold boots the ports starts working again. This never happened with previous BIOS versions.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... I've been through this before. You'll have to contact IBM and be ready to fork over big bucks. Unless the laptop is near new, it won't be worth what you'll have to pay. And if it is coded like mine was, both the computer and the hard disk are useless.

On the Dell, it was called "Password Authentication System".

Dell wanted $129 to help me with mine. I junked it.

Hello friend .Unfortunately remove a BIOS update is not possible .The reason is because the chip directly updates and deletes the previous version making it impossible to perform the " downgrade " so to speak .If you have problems , I recommend sending it to an authorized repair center Acer . Checking, there is a new BIOS update for your model Acer. v1.11.Try to upgrade to this new version , you lose nothing by trying. You may be able to solve the problem and you have access to your computer again.  I hope you find it useful information , greetings ! ^^

Guys, is there any way to go back to BIOS Version 1.07? I can't find it on the download page, am i screwed with this laptop now? it is still showing problems with version 1.10  Laptop: Aspire VN7-791G

A:Need BIOS Version 1.07

Hello friend .Unfortunately remove a BIOS update is not possible .The reason is because the chip directly updates and deletes the previous version making it impossible to perform the " downgrade " so to speak .If you have problems , I recommend sending it to an authorized repair center Acer . Checking, there is a new BIOS update for your model Acer. v1.11.Try to upgrade to this new version , you lose nothing by trying. You may be able to solve the problem and you have access to your computer again.  I hope you find it useful information , greetings ! ^^

my question is same with this post:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/bios-u-d-ofipisb-cu-hp8-1010-kil...bios u/d ofipisb-cu (hp8-1010) killed machine. I think that post can't  get ideally the answer,  why HP release the new version bios and make custom PC's dead! Here I ask HP engineer help me give me the previous bios version( ver 7.08) ,please give the .bin version, not .exe version, I try update bios use some "EEPROM BIOS Writer", this little tools is really cheap than I change the motherboard or repair it. Hope you can find in your HP resource, my search only the new one (ver 7.16), but it killed my Motherboard.Thank you and Merry Christmas~

EDIT: Gigabyte VGA BIOS tool

and when i first ran this tool it said " should not have any drivers installed "?

A:G1 Which BIOS version ?

It looks like your BIOS update would only let you get better compatibility with some monitors. If you don't need that I would not even do it. What is the reason for wanting to update your current BIOS?

Hello. Can't find the file to update the Bios F. 27 12.04.2013. Please help. Thanks in advance

A:Bios Version

F.2A is the latest version, not F.27. The files are available in the Windows 8 driver download section. http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-g6-Notebook-PC-series/5330578/model/5398...

I am trying to find out how to stop my pc from continuing to load past the post screen where it tells you the bios version number ect..

As it is a very long number it is impossible to copy it down.

Is there any way to stop the boot process on the post screen so as to get the name and bios version number so i can look for a bios upgrade?.

THANKS IN ADVANCE !!!

A:Which bios version ?.

Hold down the Pause key when the version number comes on the screen and that should stop it while you get the info you need.

Hi, I have a Thinkpad A30 2652-3WG BIOS v1.03, which I recently revived, installing Windows XP SP3. I noted that the graphics driver required BIOS v1.14 or higher. Having an old BIOS v1.03, I downloaded BIOS v1.19 and tried to update. But no matter what I do, whether I choose the floppy or non-floppy version, or even an older BIOS: When I get to the point where I answer "Yes" to start the BIOS update procedure, I get the error: "System program update is currently disabled. The process has been canceled." I have checked through all options in the Bios setup, as well as in the Thinkpad Configuration tool in the Control Panel, but I cannot find any settings for enabling/disabling Bios updates. The only think I've found, is an option to enable update through LAN, which is enabled by default. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum! A complete shot in the dark on my part, but doesn't cost you anything to try: remove the CMOS (BIOS) battery for an hour, and the main battery at the same time. Keep the machine unplugged throughout this period of time. Before doing all of the above, please make sure that no Supervisor or BIOS passwords are enabled, so you don't get locked out of the system.  Plug everything back and see how it goes. Good luck and let us know.
