I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

1. Optical USB mouse won't move the cursor.
2. Mouse buttons function properly
3. Bought a new similar mouse, same problem, ruling out damaged mouse likelihood.

4. Have tried multiple USB slots. Have tried rebooting. Have tried uninstalling the driver and rebooting.
5. Saw somewhere to remove battery but I'm in a hotel and have no screwdriver to do so.

Really need to fix this as my shoulder is becoming inflamed reaching to the mousepad. Help?

Have made no changes to system and cursor only moves up or down by mouse or keyboard. What could cause this? If it is bad video driver how do I reinstall if I can't communicate to the computer.

Also cleaning mouse & keyboard and made sure they were plugged into correct slots.

Thanks.

A:why does my cursor move?

Hi Twirly how are you,

Can you confirm that this is a laptop if it is you can start by disabling the track stick.

Control Panel -> Mouse -> Pointing Stick => Disable device

I admit that may be a rough guide but if you can get into the mouse properties you can diable it from there.

If you still have the same problem post back the specs of the comp eg make and model

This one has me stumped. I have done all of the obvious things like try all the USB ports, try another mouse, I even tried a system restore. I had to do the system restore in safe mode to actually work, not sure why. When I tried the other mouse it worked for about a half a second. Strange. If anyone has any ideas feel free to share.

Hi All, my laptop decided to download a windows 7 service pack a couple of days ago, since then I cannot get my curser to move.
can anybody help please!

A:Cursor won't move!

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Are you using the touchpad or a mouse?

You say you downloaded a service pack for Windows. There is only one, which is SP1, so was it SP1 or an update that you downloaded.

Whichever one it was you can either restore your system to point before it was installed or you can uninstall it yourself.

Scroll Bar and cursor move by itself!
I have a dell Vostro 200 with Windows XP.

I have noticed recently that while using gmail and internet explorer that the scrollbar and cursor move on their own. This is a recent problem that has only been happening about 3 weeks now. I have had the computer for about 6 months. I have antivirus (Avast) and spyware (Spybot) software installed and I run them frequently.

I have also noticed that when I go into the tools section in internet explorer and delete temporary internet files and cookies that the problem goes away for a period of time (usually 1/2 a day). I am on gmail and other internet sites quite often throughout the day. The longer I go without deleting these files the worse the problem becomes and the more sporadic it becomes. It seems to occur most frequently while I am in gmail. But, also happens in microsoft word, and other internet sites. I have installed all of the windows updates that are available. I am wondering if I need to change internet explorer or gmail settings. Or if there is something causing problems that the spyware and antivirus software are not recognizing.

Thanks

RPaskett

In the past 3 days I've tried 3 different mouses on my computer, however none of them can seem to move my cursor. When I press left, right, and the stroller button, it sometimes works, so I know that the problem is not with my mouse. I've been navigating with my keyboard and my pen tablet, which is extremely awkward because it's made for drawing! I'd love to have my cursor back but I honestly have no clue what the issue is, I'm always scanning for viruses so I'm unsure if that is the problem. Windows will recognize the device as it displays it in my device manager.

As a note, I've tried 2 USB mouses and one PS/2 mouse. No dice. However, when I move my cursor with my pen tablet it works absolutely fine.

Does anyone know the solution? It's driving me up the wall ahaha.

If this thread is in the wrong place, please point me in the correct direction. Thanks!

Wow this website is hard to use without a mouse!
A couple of days ago, my mouse stopped moving. It's a Cyborg R.A.T. 7, brand new, it's wired, the sensor is clean. It still lights up, and I can click, scroll, right and middle click, but I can't move the cursor. I tried restarting, I tried plugging it into different ports. Eventually I took it to another computer and it worked fine there. Then when I plugged it in it worked for a while. Then I rebooted and went into safe mode and it worked there. When I rebooted in normal mode the mouse worked again. Then it stopped working again, but I can click.
The drivers are up to date, but maybe it's not getting enough power. My monitor died a few months ago, but the new one works fine. It's smaller though and probably doesn't use as much power. Right now all I have plugged into my computer is a webcam, a Razer Mechanical Gaming keyboard with a backlight, and the mouse. Well I'm going to try rebooting in safe mode. Please help!

A:Cursor won't move, but can click

I doubt it is a lack of power... unless the cord is broken... (since you tested it in another computer that is doubtful)

Try removing any software associated with it...

Use an uninstaller like Revo Uninstaller Pro - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs easily to make sure you get everything. (trial works great!)

Once the software is removed do a reboot.

My guess is either the drivers got corrupted or some windows setting is doing it.

If you still have no control reinstall the software/drivers.

Let us know your results.

I have a Dell Latitude E6410 laptop running Windows 7 with two active user accounts. When I last logged out of my account, it went back to the screen with account icons. However, the cursor will not move at all, a d the hard disk flashes frequently.
I eventually powered it down and restarted. It boots, starts Windows, and displays the screen with account icons. Still the cursor will not move. Hard drive flashing frequently. Same when I boot it in Safe mode.
When I chose Startup Repair during boot, the cursor moves fine. So, I know there is not a physical connection issue.
The last thing I did before logging out was to modify the accounts monitored by Windows Live Family Safety. However, this problem occurred twice before that (after logout) but for just a couple of minutes.
I have no idea what to do. I searched for this problem extensively, but I did not find one like this ---,mostly failures to boot or login.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Did the system repair find any problems?  What did it do?  If it ran and didn't fix anything, I'd download & install the free version of Malwarebytes, get it up to date, then boot to Safe Mode and do a full system scan with it and my antivirus program.  Be aware that this can take some time to run.

Good luck.

Touch pad lock just go to mouse properties from the control panel and your touch pad will be listed and you can disable touch lock there most likely.

A:Cannot Move Cursor While Typing

Hi Jlrock,

What you want to do is move the PalmCheck settings to minimum. You will need to go to Start, type "Mouse" in the Search bar, click on Mouse in the search results, click on the Device Settings tab in the Mouse Properties window, Click on the Settings button, click the expand for Pointing, the expand for Sensitivity, Select PalmCheck, and move the bar in the upper right window down to Minimum, then click Apply!

Hi @allanyiu?, Welcome to the HP Forums!  It is a terrific place to find answers and tips! For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide:Learn How to Post and More. I grasp that you recently purchased a Spectre x 360 and on several occasions the cursor would move erratically and click on the screen, opening and closing tabs and folders. It would  get a  sphere thing display on the screen as if using the touchscreen. You are unable to regain control by using the mouse or trackpad,  but there is no change. Have you done all your Windows updates? Here is a link to Open the Windows Update troubleshooter that may help find additional drivers.   Although it lists Windows 7 it does work in Windows 10. Once launched, it should show a screen like this. Use the second option "Background Intelligent Transfer Service", it should lead to a force update of 'Windows Updates' that may not be automatically being applied that could fix some of these issues. Have you ran the HP Support Assistant?  Here  is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Using and Configuring the ClickPad that may also be of aid. Please let me know the outcome. Happy Holidays!

I have a Dynex DX-WMSE mouse, [read thread title for this portion of the sentence].

Okay, to be blunt, I'm extremely frustrated. I am half-way there in my battle to figure out the problem with my hardware and everything's pretty fishy/suspect right now as I do so. Another website is slow in its response to help me. Let me be quick and outline all the details to help this be as quick-and-painless as possible.

The mouse randomly stopped working mid-computer use. Using the keyboard as navigation on my XP SP3, I discovered that the drivers were giving error code 39 - missing or corrupt. I reinstalled them, still read error code 39.

My way out? I did one of the following and now there is no error code 39:

1. I went into C/Program/Windows/somewherearoundhereETCETERA/Inf (hidden) and renamed INFCACHE.1, and restarted. This renewed itself in my folders upon startup for a fresh INFCACHE.1 folder.
OR 2. I went into the registry of the computer, found my mouse, and deleted the Upper Filters.

After one of the above steps, the driver is now being fully read and now no longer says Error Code 39. Problem? Still cannot move cursor or click, but I CAN go Forward/Back using side buttons between browser screens and scroll up and down with the mouse now! Woo!

Other details:
-I have the driver from Dynex's website, fully updated, installed, with applicable software.
-I purchased a Logitech mouse and installed its drivers, plugged it up, and it doesn't work either. Therefore my Dynex... Read more

Hi, i ve noticed something weird with my mouse cursor, its happened on both my old CRT monitor and my new LCD monitor.

on the left side of the screen, my mouse cursor can go completely off the viewable screen, and if pushed all the way to the right, part of the cursor can be seen on the left edge of the viewable screen.

could this be a video driver problem?

I have an NVIDIA geforce4 integrated GPU, and im also trying to find a 2004 driver update for that, please help me if anybody can!

A:mouse cursor able to move of the screen, why?

Your problem seems to be that you have activated the multiple monitor feature, but there's no second monitor connected. To try this, open a program (the calculator wil be fine) and then try to move the window off the screen completely. If you can do this, then you have the multiple monitor feature on.

To disable this, rigth click a free space in the desktop, and click on properties. Go to the Configuration tab, and you'll see two monitors. Select the left one, right click it and disable it. Press Ok, and all the problems gone.

You can find all the nVidia drivers in www.nvidia.com

I seem to have a cursor problem that I just can't knock, my mouse movement just doesn't glide like it should. At first I thought I had dust under the laser light of my mouse that was causing the issue (cleaning it can help), but even still I notice a shocking difference in the way my cursor behaves when put into safe mode. It's seriously like night and day.

In regular Windows it behaves very erratically, it always wants to move somewhere to the right, even when sitting idle. When browsing, I often have to pick the mouse up and return it to its normal position because the cursor has moved so far to the right. However when I put Windows into safe mode, my mouse movement is smooth and normal as ever.

My mouse is a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000. I've scanned my system in safe mode with Malwarebytes, and nothing bad has came up. I'm not very familiar with drivers or how they work, so.. I may need guidance if that is the case. I've done several re-installs to Windows just to get rid of this exact problem, but the problem always seems to return.

Title sums it up.

Basically what happens: Explorer has stopped working: restart the program.

Afterwards, either I can't move my cursor, or the moves very slowly or in different directions but still slowly.

The only way I've been able to get out of is by Ctrl Shift Esc Task Manager and then Alt Tabbing my way to process list to kill WerFault.

I dug around through event viewer, but this the most recent relevant crash I found.

Alright, so here's my problem. Out of nowhere, when I boot Vista, my cursor is stuck in the bottom left corner of the screen. My desktop come up fine, but I still can't move the cursor. Then, the BSOD hits. The computer reboots, and the loop continues. I don't know what happened.

Here's some notes on my computer:
Gateway NV12 Laptop, bought in July '09
Vista 64-bit Service Pack 2

Some things I've recorded from the BSODs under "Technical Information":

STOP: 0x0000007F

storport.sys

I have the recovery disks that Gateway instructed me to make, but I'm afraid that if I run them, I will lose all my (un-backed-up) data, which I will NOT let happen. If I can just repair Vista with them, then ok, I'll do it.

Anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks for reading.

A:Can't move cursor, BSOD (0x0000007F) loop. Help?

This is likely to be your RAM so if you have any warranty left you should take advantage of it or if you take it to a repair shop ask them if its possible to have your RAM replaced for free as most RAM manufacturers give a lifetime guarantee and then you will only have to pay for their time.

Hello, about a week or two ago my touchpad hasn't been performing as well but it's manageable. What I did notice after the performance went down was that when I double tap on the touchpad to click a sidebar/slider, the mouse will keep moving in that direction until it reaches the end of the screen or when I let go of the touchpad. It's annoying when I want to scroll up or down just a little bit and it just keep scrolling. It doesn't happen immediately, the automatic scrolling starts after like 2 seconds of me scrolling up or down or after scrolling an x amount of distance. It also happens when I hit the corner of the touchpad.  I don't remember this being a feature back when my touchpad still performed completely fine. I've already checked the mouse settings but I can't find anything there that stops it from happening. Is it just a thing that's build in and have I just noticed it or could it be from a driver/software (windows) update?

A:Keyboard not working and laptop cursor won't move

Do you mean stuck or freezes on the login password screen? Have you tried running it in safemode and does it freezes also when your only in the BIOS utility or setup? Any noticeable changes, updates before it occured? It's also possible that there is a hard drive problem in your case.

hello! this afternoon i turned on my computer and my mouse wasnt working properly. it still clicks but cursor wont move.
i tried plugging in a spare mouse i had but the problem continued, so no, they're not broken.
i tried unninstaling mouse drivers but it was no use.
its worth mentioning i have a wacom intuos and used it right before i turned the computer off this morning.

pls send help...........
thank you! :)

A:mouse clicks but wont move cursor

Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, are there any yellow flags? If so, right click them and Uninstall them. Unplug the Mouse from the USB port on the computer. If you still have the Wacoam Tablet plugged in, Under Human Interface Device, if the Wacom tablet is listed, right click it and Uninstall it. Now unplug the Wacom tablet. Now restart the computer. When the computer finishes booting, plug in the USB cable for the mouse into a different USB port. New Hardware will be found and the mouse should now work.
If you want, load the driver for the Wacom tablet from the install CD or download, and then, plug in the Wacom tablet.

This is a problem that began when I first bought my laptop in 2011. Since it happens regardless of whether I'm typing in my wordprossing software, in an email or on a website such as Facebook, if I stop for whatever reason for a few seconds, the cursor will reposition itself as it did just a few seconds ago to the beginning of what I'm typing. Usually if I have enough words on the page it will jump back about 5 lines or some times it will erase the last couple of sentences. This began in WIN 7 Professional and is continuing in WIN 10.

This seems so simple, yet extensive online searching does not present a solution: I just want to be able to enter text in a table row/column, then place the cursor outside the table and enter text. Google docs tables will occupy a page, and once inside, you can't move your cursor outside the table! Also, let's say you have a table with lots of empty space in the last cell. If you delete the space (by backspacing or dragging the border of cell), the text or table or object below the current table immediately moves up to fill that space. It's a little maddening. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

A:Google Docs tables: any way to move cursor outside table???

Someone suggested online to just use "convert table to text," but Google responded by saying it is "not a function at this time." This was a post from June 201, so it's current.

Is there a way to move the focus to check boxes on websites and in programs without using the mouse?

Let's say you're in the options menu of a program like Firefox or MS Office, and there are options with boxes you can check or uncheck. I want to be able to navigate to the boxes using the keyboard instead of the mouse.

What I find is, you usually can move the focus to the item description (i.e. highlight the text) using Tab, but that only gets to the item description, not the check box. Which is odd, because why would anyone ever need to highlight the text in a program's menus?

Once in a while it does work - you can tab to the check box and check/uncheck using something like shift-click. But I can't remember where that works. Maybe MS Office but I don't have it on this computer.

I am on a laptop, where it would save a lot of moving the mouse around. It might not be much of a time-saver on a desktop.

Hello,

I recently had some issues with a dual boot of windows and linux so I decided to reformatt, everything was working fine and when I booted up this morning the mouse cursor was on the center of the screen and would not move. I tried my wireless optical mouse along with 2 other wired mice and nothing worked. Since I just reformatted I figured I'd do it again for the hell of it, still nothing, all 3 of the mice I have I tested on the laptop and they work fine, so I know those are not the issue. I tried all 6 USB ports to make sure it wasn't a bad usb port, along with the mouse serial port, still nothing. The mouse is also centered and will not move during the entire windows install process, it's not only at windows. I tried searching up the problem and almost all of the suggestions point to a bad mouse which I know isn't the case. Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to read everyone. (using the numpad to move the mouse is not fun, haha)

This subject came up about 3 years ago in the Seven Folder when evaluating whether I should move my stable of 22 WinXP3 systems to Win 7. Never made the move since Win7, win8 and Win 8-1 seemed to be a downgrade from WinXP3.

I have just installed Win 10 on a Dell Computer and the problem seems to be still present in w10 as well.

The problem is that when I want to move or copy files or folders in Win 10, the cursor suddenly expands with a huge icon attached that, depending on what is being moved (or other criteria), blocks the view of the target folders in the receiving folder. It was stated that this could not be fixed in windows 7. It is now 3.5 years later and the problem seems to be resident in windows 10. Has anyone come up with a fix for this.

In WinXP3, the cursor appended a mini-icon to the cursor reflecting a folder or (if present) an icon imbedded in the file, but the icon was no taller than the name of the file/folder being moved/copied. This large Icon is quite annoying.

Does anyone know how to shrink the icon size so it behaves as it did in WinXP3, or better yet,get rid of the icon altogether?

A:Cursor icon blocking view of folders during move

Hi, I guess you mean rt click drag 'n drop?

I've only ever seen the icon ('normal' size, semi transparent).

Am wondering if you've consistently installed sthg thru those OS's that results in this.
Did you do a clean install of Win 10, and was the problem present then?

Otherwise, if you've found no fixes, check the same in
a. Safe Mode
b. a new user (for test purposes only)
c. after a clean boot
d. after disabling extensions with Shellexview (freeware).

My dad has given me the opportunity to "fix" his laptop that he got around Christmas time. He unknowingly did not load any anti-virus or anti-spyware software.

It's running Vista.

I did read the "sticky" thread in here where you run some program to aquire some type of log but I cannot move the cursor when i boot up the laptop, even in Safemode.

Can somebody please help me to get on the right track?

Thank you in advance
