ThinkPad X1 Tablet Gen2 - Screen resolution issues and issues creating new folder on network storage

Q: ThinkPad X1 Tablet Gen2 - Screen resolution issues and issues creating new folder on network storage

I have two annoying issues with my new ThinkPad X1 Tablet (Model: 20JB001DGE, running Windows 10 Pro, Build: 1709; 16299.371): When trying to create a new folder on a network share on my Synology NAS I get the error message:If I click 'Try Again' the message remains. When 'Cancel' is clicked I got the new folder with the default name 'New Folder'.Sometimes this also happens when renaming a folder or file. The only way to get rid of it, is restarting the tablet.I have already been in contact with the Synology Support. They checked the NAS, which seems to be okay. This can be confirmed by using another Windows tablet with the same Win 10 build, which can access the NAS shares and create folder without any issues.I also contacted the Microsoft Support. They adviced me to disable all non-Windows services and all auto start items.I uninstalled my Antivirus and Firewall-Tool Avast Premier, using Windows Defender only now.We also tried out different SMB configurations. (activating SMB v1 only on both NAS an PC vs. SMB v2/3, which is the recommended and more secure configuration.)Nothing of this helped so far.The tablet is connected to the DVI port of a monitor via the USB 3 Ultra Dock.Every once in a while some items are displayed larger than normal or seem blurred, for example when opening windows explorer. This screenshot should illustrate the difference. On the left is the normal view, while the right one coincides with blurred view of windows explorer items or fonts in documents. The issue appears after starting Windows and can be resolved by signing out and signing in again. Any idea what I can do?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have just completed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate and all went well except for the screen brightness issue. Anyone have any ideas where I can simply increase this as I have searched everywhere for screen brightness, even BIOS for any setting for display. I have latest update to display driver. I have two other laptops and each shows much brighter than this one and I am surely disappointed in this display. Not sure if it is because this screen is touch enabled and also works off keyboard that could be the issue and a separate setting could be involved on the touch side of the display as it does work with a stylus pen or touch also. thanks and   I hope I can get this brightness to increase somewhat as it is too hazy for me.

I just purchased a X1 Yoga 2nd Gen with a high-end configuration.  In theory, this is my ideal computer for home (which includes a lot of computer modeling work in evenings and weekends).

But I just returned it because I was experiencing a cascade of mostly mouse-related issues.  At times, these issues all affected the TrackPoint, TouchPad an X1 external travel mouse, so they were not device-specific.

I first noticed the mouse would freeze, and display a tiny scroll-bar pointer.  When I'd try to move the mouse, the scroll bar gliff would shift from vertical to horizontal, etc... but the mouse would not move and could not be used.  I would have to force a reboot and repeat until the problem went away.  I seemed to minimize this problem by changing a mouse setting in Devices / Mouse Properties / Thinkpad.  Under Enable TrackPoint, I changed the Middle Button Action to "Use as middle click".  This seemed to improve things...

But then the mouse started rapidly drifting across the screen, and this drifting process would go on and on until I rebooted (often several times).  When the mouse was drifting -- always towards the upper-right -- it was essentially impossible to use the computer.

I also found that the mouse buttons would quit working frequently.  This was most common when I had other processes running.  But the CPU (and memory) was far from maxed out -- I had it at 30-40%.  This pro... Read more

Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

Within weeks of getting the tablet the trackpad of thinkpad keyboard (comes with the tablet) started behaving weirdly. It works fine for a few moments then the trackpad starts making random selections.  When you try to open a minimized window, it maximizes and then minimizes it again in a split second. It makes a selection when you are only trying to move the cursor. It is extremely inconvenient. On top of that it is so hard to get hold of someone at Lenovo. I tried changing the sensitivity of the trackpad to no avail.

Hi (my first post here), I observe severe performance issues when using my X1 Tablet (20GGCT01WW, 1.gen) in battery mode on Windows 10. Everything becomes so slow that it is hardly usable. Pluggin in the power supply and the tablet works fine again.I installed the Lenovo Power Management Driver form the lenovo webpage and tried to change the "power plan" on windows. However, the is no way, it seems, to prevent the cpu/gfx to be down clocked in battery mode? When clicking on the power-icon in the task bar, there is a ""power mode"-slider to increase the performance in battery mode. However, this also has almost no effect. There is no such problem when using the tablet on Linux, so it is not a bios thing. And the battery runtime with linux is only a little less than on windows.  The drop in performance is extremely annoying on windows and I find the x1 tablet hardly usable at all with windows in battery mode. So, any idea or help from anybody how to keep the maximum performance when when power is unplugged and only using the battery on windows 10?  I mean, what does it help to have a longer run time when you hardly can work during that time? Any help is much appreciated, nexus

Hello,   I bought the Thinkpad X1 tablet gen 3 in Dec 2018. Since then, I cannot see the red charging light being on when it's fully charged, but when I plug the cord in, the charging light does flicker 3 times, yet it doesnt indicate when fully charging?   Moreover, I have updated everything until now, but the microphone just doesnt record my voice clearly when the laptop is being charged with electricity? I have tried to tune every option in the setting of the microphone, but the Voice Recorder just doesnt record my voice clearly, always with distortion while being charged?   Finally, the battery life lasts maximum about 5 hrs, not as advertised as 9 hrs?   Has anyone had the same issues as mine with the Thinkpad X1 tablet gen 3, please give me your recommendations?   Many thanks

I created a Storage pool with the following setup. Three 3TB drives with parity all in an external enclosure with eSata and USB 2/3 ports. It was connected via USB when created and had production data loaded and tested without any issues.
After a few days of use I decided to see what happened when I tried to access it via the eSata port. No luck, due to a driver on the eSata card issue with Win 8. So I powered all back down and plugged back in via USB. At this point the Storage pool went
into the state as per the screenshot below. Any suggestions to either fix the issue and/or retrieve the data that is in the volume?

Hi,
Can anyone help me with an issue I am having with my local network?
I connected a Western Digital 500GB USB 3.0 HDD to my Netgear N300 router via the USB readyshare connection so that everyone on the network can have access... BUT
While I can see and access the (readyshare) HDD from my laptop running win7, I cant see or access the (readyshare) HDD from my HTC Android phone or my WDTV Live Media Hub.
The WDTV is connected to the router via Ethernet and successfully connects to the internet, all other devices connect using wireless access. I have the latest firmware.
I performed a search the other day through google and it appears I may need to download an app for the phone to have access to the (readyshare) HDD... ?
I can connect the (readyshare) HDD directly to the WDTV, but it means swapping and changing everytime I want access from a different device.
I have been unable to locate any documentation from Netgear or Western Digital. I would love to smooth out the crinkles on this one as I have plans to upgrade the network storage and incorporate a new desktop into the network.
Any ideas??

I am trying fingure out how to change screen resolution. Unfortunately, my only choices are 1690x900, 1280x720, and 1024x768 all are 60hz. How do i get more choices. ThanksDoc Myers

A:Screen Resolution Issues

Your display panel from specs: Display17.3-inch diagonal HD+ BrightView WLED-backlit display (1600 x 900)  Digital flat panel screens only look their best at "native" resolution. In your case, 1600 x 900. And the refresh rate is "virtual". There is no refreshing like you used to have on old tube monitors: 60 hz is kind of a placeholder. So to answer your question directly, your screen should be set to 1600 x 900 and any adjustment you want to make in appearance should be done by scaling in the WIndows display properties.  Post back with any more questions. Hello, my friend recently purchased parts and built his own computer. He also bought a 19" Sansui LCD tv that also doubles as a pc monitor. The problem is the screen resolution is stuck at 1024x768. All the drivers are installed correctly, and I mean ALL of them, and yet it still won't change. So I figured this must be something to do with the hardware. Any help would be appreciated.

The graphics card in question is a Sparkle 1Gb GeForce 9400 GT and is hooked to the monitor via vga.

A:Screen Resolution issues...

The monitor itself is most likely stuck in that mode. Its not exactly what I would call a "name" brand monitor - and if it reports to the video driver that it only supports 1024x768, then thats it.

What 19" monitor? Link to it from newegg.com if they have it.

LCDs TV that do PC monitors are NOT as good as PC monitors doing LCDs.

Samsung makes some LCD displays for $300~450 with TV inputs and remote (22"~26")

Refer to your manual for supported display modes.

I just bought a Lenovo Yoga 910 4k display and I'm already having issues with the screen resolution in certain applications. The two applications that I have the most problems with is Photoshop and Skype. As you can see, it's difficult to see as it's very zoomed out, especially in Photoshop. I attempted to mess with options in both applications, but it seems to be the laptop's issue and not the programs. The resolution is fine everywhere else. If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate!

Our Dell laptop needed a new hard drive so we installed one, formatted it, and installed Win Xp on it. Then we installed the drivers that came with the Dell. The problem is that no matter what we try to do the screen size is too small. We tried several settings with no joy.

We also replaced the CMOS battery. Could that have anything to do with the screen issue?

I got a new monitor about three months ago (an HP w17e widescreen) to replace my old 17in monitor. I was able to view my new monitor it at it's native resolution (1440x900) and everything was going great, but a couple days ago I turned on my computer and the resolution was set to 1024x768. I've gone through the Display Settings and attempted to change the size by using the slider. That doesn't work, the 1440x900 resolution isn't even an option. I've updated my graphic's drivers and that didn't work, I also tried to find drivers for my monitor but there aren't any.

Currently I've got my resolution set to 1280x960, which isn't too bad but I would much rather have my 1440x900 back. Anyone know how this can be achieved? Thanks for the help in advance!

I have been putting off updating to Windows 10 on a Hewlitt Packard G60 laptop, however, today, the computer did upgrade.

It seems as if the Windows 10 installation worked, with the exception of two issues.

1. The screen resolution has been changed to 1024x728, and there is no way to change it to anything but lower resolution, so this causes the graphics to be stretched horizontally.

2. The picture used for the desktop has been rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise. I assume this is also a result of whatever the issue with the resolution is.

This laptop has a Mobile Intel 4 series express chipset adapter, and apparently has the most updated driver.

Can anyone help, or let me know if there is another driver for this somewhere? If not, can someone tell me how to revert back to Windows 7, because this is not acceptable.

Thanks

Hello jsrfo Welcome to the Ten Forums! and world of "Buggy Upgrade Installs"!

While you can revert back to 7 as long as you haven't run the DiskCleanup tool or removed the Windows.old folder quite yet the problem typically seen with upgrades from 7 to 10 is going three versions newer and running into headaches which result in forcing a clean install to follow! Too bad you are just now arriving here since there is a guide for skipping the initial upgrade to simply see a working copy of 10 go without headaches!

Recently another HP laptop upgraded to 10 from 7 had also come out "Buggy y y y y y" as all heck while already knowing a clean install would follow to clean up the mess! Other then that 10 runs all too much a lot like 7 but is the newer form of the WinMin kernel in use as well as seeing the newer form of a Start menu brought back.

The fact that the display there came out sideways doesn't clearly indicate that the upgrade is actually what went sideways on you not seeing everything go on as it should! I will still point you at a couple of guides seen here at TenF that will be for Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First and the Windows 10 - Clean Install regular guide showing the how things are done you will still want to lookover anyways.

I wouldn't worry any about this being strictly a 10 related problems since displays going sideways has been around since XP at least as well as seen with Vista and 7! Speaking of HP in par... Read more

My last two X1's (G5 and G6) have both had an issue with their Lenovo 3.0 USB docking station.  It works great when connected, but when I disconnect, my X1 screen will drop down to a lower resolution.  When I go to the Display Settings in Windows, the system incorrectly thinks it is in the highest possible resolution.  I have to change the resolton setting to a random resoltion and then revert the changes.  When I do that I get back to the normal resoltion.  Any ideas how to fix? It's really annoying to buy a $250 dock from the OEM and have such an obvious shortcoming, especially since Lenovo insits on installing so much software on the laptop already.

I play games on an Asus laptop with only an NVIDIA 960M graphics card. I play some games at lower resolutions to keep up frames while gaming. Prior to the update I could alt+tab out of the game and the desktop screen would return to 1920x1080 and tabbing back in would keep lower resolution I have set for the game. Now, when alt tabbing out of of lower resolution screen, Windows desktop reverts to the lower resolution I have set for the game (in-game resolution is 1280x720, as exclusive fullscreen). And when tabbing back into the game there are some video settings being used that are used for 'borderless window' instead of my setting of exclusive fullscreen.

Okay, so let's get the hardware out of the way first.

nVidia EVGA GTX 580
I7-2600k
16GB Corsair RAM
Asus P8P67 Deluxe (I think? Can find the box if it's a big deal)
Windows 7 Pro, SP1

For displays, I have a Sony Bravia 40' TV running HDMI off of the GPU, and a 32' Zenbo running VGA off of the GPU's DVI.

Onwards to the issue. Both TV's run fine for what they are, but when I decide to do anything that's a full screen application, two things happen every time. First and foremost, I lost dramatic picture quality. Specifically, my color looks all washed out and grainy, as if I'm going from a 32bit to a 16 - and this will persist until . Secondly, my resolutions get warped, resulting in the process I'm running actually being a little bit larger than my display, thus I lose about an inch on all sides. Also, for some games, such as the new Tomb Raider, I get a message saying that Windows Aero has been temporarily disabled to improve performance. This doesn't always pop up, but does so enough during other more graphically intense games (Crysis) to be a point of concern.

Here's the tricky part.

I just tried to screencap this problem, and seemingly it does not exist. That is it say, when I took a screencap of the edges being off, the screencap show they're there. Same with my video quality; the problem doesn't show up on the screencap, despite the fact that I know it's there. I took a before/after picture of... Read more

A few weeks ago, I developed two problems with my Dell XPS 12 that seem like they may be related, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to solve either.
1) The first issue is that sometimes when I turn on my laptop (this has been progressing to EVERY time), it emits a series of 8 short beeps.  I can then turn it back off and on, and it starts normally.  (Except for today, which took several tries.)  I found that 8 short beeps is the beep code for the LCD screen.  However, I'm not having any screen issues.  I also ran the full diagnostics from Dell support and passed everything, including all LCD tests.
2) The second issue is regarding screen resolution.  Again, not EVERY time, but sometimes after my laptop has been in sleep mode and I "wake" it, the screen has resized from its normal HD (I have it on the recommended screen setting) to a much smaller, square width, resetting all my windows with it.  I can set it back, but it's VERY annoying to keep having to do this!  I have tried a number of fixes I found online, including making register alterations and changing when the laptop sleeps, but none has helped.
I'm by no means a computer expert, but I can find my way around with guidance, and I would appreciate any help with this!!!

Hi,

I just built a new computer today and istalled windows 7 , hooked it up to my 24 inch monitor and was suprised to see a good portion of the native resolution not showing up leaving me seeing only a portion of the desktop ( no start bar or icons, just the clock and cpu meter in side bar ) I tried changing resolution a few times, but the high end of the resolutions were not fitting and a couple times the screen went blank ( blue ) and after a few seconds fixed itself, and then after choosing one of the lower resolutions it changed and it didnt fix itself.

I went on to my laptop and realized there is a issue with windows 7 and native 1920x 1080 resolutions... so I booted my new computer into safe mode to change the resolution so I can get out of blank screen.. but I cant change resolution in safe mode, so ..

how do I change the resolution so that when I boot it I dont get a blank screen - i can get in to safe mode no problem and see the screen if that helps. I could just reformat but there should be a simpler way...

thanks a ton

Hi folks,

I have bad issues with the resolution settings under W7. With a fresh install of W7 I can't move up to 1600X1200. the native resolution of my monitor is 1920X1200. I started to try some others drivers but without any success. I tried to use the NV panel wich offers me the correct resolution but when I click on the apply button nothing change or kick me out of range. The exact same thing using the possible settings from the adapter properties. The reason is that the refresh rate seemed to be lock @70hz which is too high for that resolution using VGA. Some of you may say to try with HDMI cable, but I don't want because I 'm also using an analog KVM. It reminds me a PB I had when I installed OSX on my PC, but we're talking about W7 here, and of course it's not the same exact problem. It seems to be a common problem with many of you. Any solution to fix it ?

Thanks,

There are also big smudges from the keyboard that does not go away when I try to clean the screen. I am happy with this laptop overall, but I think it is terrible design to fail to make sure that the screen and keyboard is not touching when the lid is closed! Is it possible to fix these screen issues? Hello everyone! Iv'e been having an issue that's driving me crazy and i'm hoping someone here can help.

The issue i'm having is when my computer goes into sleep/hibernate mode and i wake it up, the screen appears to have a resolution issue ( picture attached ). I figured this wasn't a big deal so i turned sleep/hibernate mode off and just turn my screen off when not in use. I'm getting the exact issue though! When i turn my screen off and back on, the resolution is messed up.
So now i need help resolving this. If it also fixes it for the sleep/hibernate mode, that would be great but not necessary
The ONLY recent change is I upgraded to an Asus GTX560 Ti DirectCU II Top OC graphics card. I installed the card into my computer and windows automatically downloaded the drivers for it.

Things i've tried:
1)Uninstalled and reinstalled graphics drivers using windows update and then again through Nvidia website
2) Currently using HDMI, but get the same issue with DVI-D (single) cord
3) Completely reinstalled Windows 10 Pro from scratch
4) Double checked all connections
5) Look through settings on my TV and settings on the graphics card through Nvidia Experience
6) Googled similar issues, but im not finding many that have the SAME issue as me
My setup:

A:Screen/Resolution Issues When Turning Screen On/Off

You appear to have a very old Dell (OptiPlex?) model desktop.
What is its model name and model number?
What is the exact "service tag" and "express service code" numbers on it?

Is it running Windows 10 Pro 32-bit or 64-bit?
You should download and save the appropriate driver from the NVIDIA site, then select the custom install option, then select the clean install option.

Are you having the same issues when using a standard computer monitor instead of using a HD TV?

I have set up a network shared folder on my Win 7 machine and I can see it and copy files to it using windows explorer. I'm trying to use this folder as a sync or transfer folder for other computers on the network, only they cannot see/find the folder, even though they hook to the network and ping just fine. The network name is "OFFICE". I am pretty sure I have all the folder sharing permissions set correctly.

In the command prompt of the network machine, I type in \\192.168.1.1\folder_name\ , but I get the message: "The system cannot find the path specified". Basically, I cannot find any of the network shared folders using the command prompt on the network machine. None of the other networked computers can see the folders either. The folder properties tab indicates that the shared path is: \\OFFICE\Droid Docs, but entering that into the command prompt does not work either.

Hi - just received my thinkpad X1 extreme gen 2 with UHD screen. The screen is horrible - it looks like its covered in some sort of mesh - so especially it is seen on white background looking like millions of little dark dots plus windows look very blurry changed the resolution to FHD, changed the scalling - it remains the same - when connected to the external monitor - there is no issue on the second screen but the built in laptop screen is just horrible. disabled UHD graphics in BIOS - no change. Anyone experienced anything similar? would that be some sort of screen protector, antiglare or protecting foil? Thanks in advance

I set up a network a while ago and it worked seamlessly between my two computers--a desktop and a laptop, both running Windows 7. The laptop would connect to the network by accessing the wireless internet that both computers use. My laptop is able to detect the desktop on the network, but when I click the computer icon, my Public folder or my Users folder, in the Network, i can't open it, giving me an error that says "Windows cannot access \\COMPUTER\folder". Troubleshooting this problem says that the problem can't be detected.

I have made sure that the desktop has allowed folders to be shared to everyone.
I have made sure that folders on my laptop are allowed to be shared to everyone.
I do not use a password for access.
I have tried turning off the Windows Firewall for both computers.

I can't access my Public or Users folder under my own computer in the network. This makes me think that the problem is with my laptop.

Changes that could have possibly done this is that I once tried to connect to the desktop through Remote Desktop Connection, but that failed. I have changed the name of my desktop after doing a factory reset, but i doubt this would affect anything.

When my 5510 (i7-6820HQ + UHD screen) arrived one of the first things I tried was viewing one of the many 4K videos on YouTube (in Chrome), and I was disappointed to find that it kept stuttering / dropping frames. Selecting 2K video resolution (within YouTube) seemed to playback smoothly enough and was still better than the 1080p quality I was used to so I was happy enough with that in the short term and assumed that buggy drivers/firmware were to blame for the 4K stuttering, as surely the i7 CPU (plus either the integrated Intel HD 530 GPU or the Quadro M1000M GPU) would be capable of decoding & rendering 4K video at 60fps...
However, many months have passed, I've installed endless driver & firmware updates, and nothing has changed, if anything playback performance feels worse, and I've even found that watching 1080p Blu-ray rips fullscreen at 4K screen resolution results in stuttering video (even on 24fps videos) and out of sync sound in both MPC-HC or MPD - and that's with the EVR presenter selected in both apps. I've also tried setting the LAV Video Decoder filter to use QuickSync or CUVID but neither makes a difference.
Everything looks and feels like the CPU & GPU are doing all the right things and aren't working very hard (I've used CPU-Z and GPU-Z to keep an eye on load and nothing is maxing out, far from it, they're barely working at all - between 10-25% utilization depending on what I'm looking at) and the decoding is goin... I have recently purchased lenovo thinkpad x1 yoga from Germany. I have tried to install different versions of linux ubuntu in dual boot, but none of them seems to work. It boots from the bootable usb and gives the live ubuntu and install ubuntu options but when you enter then it displays a blank screen and nothing happens afterwards. I am facing another issue pretty consistently that the touch screen becomes unresponsive most of the times. When i use the pen it works fine but it does not works with my fingers. Looking forward to some solution as its pretty annoying experiencing such bugs in such an expensive machine. Thanks

After Intel Management Engine Firmware 10 [64]- v 12.0.47.1524 my machine has been having odd power issues.Sleep mode it drains the battery. If it starts on battery power, not plugged in, it bluescreens. It won't start while plugged in. I have to turn it on, wait for screen to activate, and then plug it in.  Too early, it never turns on, sits on a black screen.  Too late and it either shuts down due to low battery (if I leave in sleep mode) or bluescreens (if I had it shut down and the battery still has power).  Stop code is a different error each time.  (driver irql_less_or_not_equal, unexpected kernal mode trap, things of that nature)There's something up with how the machine receives power and it only affect startup.  Unplugging the machine will still allow it to run (haven't tested for how long, it's just not an instant bluescreen)Any way to roll back firmware?

Hi, I just got my Thinkpad P70 4k with Nvidia Quadro M3000M graphics this week, running Windows 10 Pro.I have run into a lot of issues regarding HDMI output - switching to discrete graphics disables the HDMI output and i can no longer change the resolution or scaling (nor does the Nvidia Control Panel show up). In mixed graphics mode the HDMI output works, and i can change the resolution  but after waking from sleep the image only shows on the external (HD display) connected over HDMI.I have to disconnect the HDMI cable to get video on the laptop screen and the reconnect it to get video on both screens.I suspect that the Intel Graphics runs the Laptop Screen in mixed graphics mode, in the Nvidia Control Panel I can only control the external display.    I am running the latest BIOS (2.03) and updated the Nvidia Drivers directly from NVIDIA (10.18.13.6256).  On another note I also had a black screen issue after updating the BIOS to 2.03 (no idea what version came installed) everytime i rebooted and had to disconnect the Bios Battery twice, but that somehow (??) got resolved after taking out a SD card from the Card Reader.

Hello all, I have an issue with my Thinkpad W510. Immediatly after installing a fresh windows 10 onto the computer (in order to sell, the laptop already had windows 10/fedora dual booting and everything was fine.) the screen resolution became wacky. Upon booting the screen is repeated 4 times going vertically down the screen. Once booted into the OS there is a split about 2/3 down the screen and the top half of the screen is repeated on the bottom 1/3. Colors are also very dull. I updated windows 10 fully, installed the latest nvidia driver, and rebooted, no results. I then rolled back to windows 8 which is what i got the computer with, updated, updated drivers, and still have no option other than 1024x768 resolution. And the screen is still repeating itself. I have also taken the computer apart, dusted, made sure the video connectors were seated. Put back together and problem persists. However, when plugging in a display via VGA it displays fine. Is this an issue within identifying the display on the latop? Or more likely a coincidence that the fresh install of windows happened along side a hardware failure of the screen/video cable. I'm pretty stuck right now and was really needing to get this sold. Any help is appreciated thank you!

Hi, I having a lot of trouble getting the wireless wifi card working on my brand new X1 Extreme Gen 2. The extreme x1 gen 2 has a Intel ax200 wifi card and out of the box with default settings the wifi card restarts continuously both in windows and ubuntu 19.04. When looking in windows events log I can see errors from "Netwtw08" saying that it has encountered an error and the wifi card needs a restart. When this happens the network connection is disconnected and I lose connection for a few seconds before it reconnects to the access point again. This happens both on Ubuntu and Windows. The windows event log shows errors like "5007 - TX/CMD timeout (TfdQueue hanged)" To try to fix this I have updated everything I could, windows and drivers.I have updated everything with Lenovo vantage, windows update, running version 1909 of windows 10, installed the latest drivers from intel website for AX200 wireless card. But still the error continue to appear making the internet connection unusable. The only way to get a stable wifi connection is to disable 802.11n completely in the driver options. This stops the errors in windows event log, and the system log in ubuntu, from showing up. The problem I have now is that I have terrible wifi performance. connected with 802.11g on 2.4ghz and I just get about 20Mbps from my X1 extreme vs. about 70Mbps on my old Samsung S7 mobile phone, and also about 70Mbps on my old X1 carbon gen4 (which is where my ISP cap me). So, I d... My office has a shared network folder with shared excel spreadsheets used by multiple persons at the same time. We have always had slow connectivity, but after moving the shared folder to another network server (in another city) we are having major issues, to name a few:
1-Read only pops up all the time and it takes 2.54 min to go through all the read-write boxes in order to bring up the spreadsheet
2-spinning circles constantly
3-access denied, contact administrator
4-file cannot be located
5-comments in cells not saving
6-Lost data and having to restore from server
I've been told even though we are all desktop and lines to a computer room, that we wifi over to another building, then to the city where the server is located....most bizarre stuff I've ever encountered.

Users have intermittent connectivity to shared folder if they use \\computername\folder, sometimes they can not access it sometimes they can but only see a few folders. However if they use \\computername\root\folder they do not have a problem. We are working
across subnets as our home office is in NC and we are in IA. I have asked our head IT guys what the reason for this is and even they are not aware of the issues. Of course they are on the subnet that we are trying to access from our site.
If someone could please explain why we have to use root in between to get this to work it would be a great help.
And yes at some point access the folders via \\domain\folder worked just fine, but it is hit or miss.
