Is Lenovo denying the Y730's existence?

Q: Is Lenovo denying the Y730's existence?

It seems Lenovo doesn't even remember (or is playing revisionist history tricks) that they made the Ideapad Y730. Looking around the support pages, NOTHING will turn up any reference to the Y730. There are no drivers, etc to be found on this site. I have tried searching by the two different serial numbers taht show up in BIOS, and they can't manage to find themby those either. And forget about their "automatic" lookup utility; it will sit there spinning for ***HOURS*** (yes, I left it to run overnight once) and can't manage to even START finding anything. Their site is severely broken.Even trying the so-called-"support" line, the "tech" couldn't find the machine by S/N either, and kept insisting it couldn't be that number. Well, if it's the wrong number (on the sticker *as well as* the BIOS), then it's Lenovo that got that wrong. So what's the story? Are they trying to deny the product? Did they fubar this one worse than usual that they have to pretend it never existed?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi new here. Bought a y730 a month or so back and worked great until recently. After getting all the updates, the fingerprint scanner no longer works. Seems to be a fairly common issue? I read here and tried all the fixes (tried to update the intel software and also the drivers for the reader) and still nothing. I called support and they were essentially worthless. Rolled my computer back and finally suggested I re-install windows after that did not work. It seems as if this is related to the 1803 update?  Does anyone have this working and or a procedure that works? If I install the later updates to the fingerprint driver I get error code 10 (device won't start I think?) and the intel security update that was listed refuses to install (it says both there is an older and newer version during its install).  Any advice is appreciated.

I can not seem to find where I would download Windows 7 Drivers for my Y730.   When I go to Support, Download and Drivers and go through the Model selecion there are only Windows Vista Drivers.  I find this very disappointing as you are now supposively shipping these laptops with Windows 7 installed.  I would like to be able to download the new drivers as well as the support applications that have been reworked to properly function with Windows 7. Can Anyone Point me in the direction for getting what I'm looking for?  Thanks.

Hello Everyone  I just need help with my Y730 15inch model wifi card. I saw someone replace that as Intel AC 9560 on their Y530. So I thought that should work on my laptop too. I replaced with 8560 once. But I could not find that card in my driver manager. I mean somehow there should be a device logo with yellow thing there, right? (I did not install the software driver at that time.) Therefore, I come to ask if anyone has an idea what should I do first? I mean, should I install the driver before I replace it physically? Or, should I replace it first, install driver and reboot? I am still not 100% sure Intel AC9560 will work on this laptop. Also, I want to ask I do not need to reinstall windows when I replace the wifi card, right?

A:Y730-15 WiFi Card replace

Most laptops have a whitelist of cards that can be installed, so while you laptop may support the AC 9560, it would have to be a Lenovo branded one to work, which for the Y730 is FRU P/N:  01AX768 Here is one that is compatible with your system.https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-9560NGW-bt5-0-Card-For-Lenovo-01AX768-hp-937263... Once you install the card into your system, you just need to install the driver below and it should be detected Intel WLAN Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Legion Y730-15ICH, Legion Y730-17ICHhttps://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/mdlg03af08rb.exe Cheers,

Mixing DSL and OOL (Cable)
Here is the situation--I currently have a small home nework sharing a Verizon DSL network at 1.5/640-------I am very pleased. Verizon offered a speed increase 3.0/760 but of course I am out of range. I would like to order OOL, and on one of the computers in the network (mine) have it run along side my DSL. If things work out, after two months I would bring the whole network over to OOL. A couple of questions:

1. Can I switch back and forth on my computer from DSL to OOL----what will I need---extra NIC, a second copy of Zonealarm/

2. Have any of you experienced this and if so, did you run into unique problems?

Anyway, here's a pic I've made of my screen after clicking the 'connected' icon on the bottom right corner. What is this 'Other Network' - is it maybe a neighbours's internet connection? If so, it must be a good one to be showing 'excellent' signal strength. If it has nothing to do with the neighbours, what problems do I have and how would I solve them?

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome

Nice avitar

You have connect automatically to available networks. You can chane it in networking. You also should have encryption enabled and a firewall and AV running.

You can absolutely prevent other PC/devices connecting by enabling Mac address in th router. You can specifiy the MAC address of you computer as the only ones that can connect

Hi Everyone, I have a Legion Y730. I spent days searching for an answer and was not able to find a solution that worked until now. It seems that this was something that many people had posted about over the years and the solution was very difficult to find if at all. I wanted to share with everyone so that they may find the answer in one place. After reformatting my drive recently and freshly installing Windows 10, my F4, F8, F10-11 secondary functions stopped working. There was no solution anywhere until I saw one post in a random forum that stated that he had Lenovo Utility disabled in his startup and needed it to be enabled for them to work... Low and behold, I found this driver: https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/downloads/ds500481 It is not automatically installed with Lenovo Vantage, or Windows Update, or even DriverEasy (which I have the pro version). Install this, restart, and all of your function keys work once again! I hope this helps whoever is trying to search for a solution to this once and for all!

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here or here.

Unzip it to your Desktop.

Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.

Double-click gmer.exe

The program will begin to run. If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan. Click Yes. Once the scan is complete, you may receive another notice about rootkit activity. Click OK. GMER will produce a log. Click on the Save button, and save the log file somewhere you can easily find it, such as your desktop. Please attach that log to your next reply.

If you do not receive notice about possible rootkit activity, remain on the Rootkit/Malware tab & make sure the 'Show All' button is unticked. Click the Scan button and let the program do its work. It will produce a log. Click on the Save button, and save the log file somewhere you can easily find it, such as your desktop. Please attach that log to your next reply.

I'm currently running the Norton Internet Security firewall (as well as the rest of the Internet Security software). I've seen several strong recommendations for the Zone Alarm firewall. Can you run both firewalls simultaneously without creating any problems? If so, is it advantageous to do so? Or is Zone Alarm all by itself what I should use?

If you'd also like to tell me how good (or how bad) the Norton firewall is, I'm paying attention. It didn't prevent an adware problem in my system, so my trust in it has gone way down.

A:Co-existence Of Firewalls In Winxp?

Only use one of the firewalls as they tend to conflict with each other. Many here rave the Zone alarm. I use Comodo ( I feel it is the best) and have not ever used the Norton. Others I'm sure will comment on ZA and Norton.

The desktop settings are locked down so I can't change that wallpaper and that little red X pops up a bubble message every few minutes. So yesterday, my laptop (A lenovo G560) Crashed and was unable to boot. I didn't have an original OS CD, so the only thing I could do to recover my computer was to use the built in OneKey recovery feature. Well, thanks Lenovo, because it was a little bit broken (stopped recovering at 98%, but the computer was formatted as if it were brand new.)

Well, thanks to this broken recovery, it seems a few key system files were missing. The first one was some COMCTL32.dll or something like that and I couldn't install any programs because I kept getting that error. Well, I ran windows update and it seems to have fixed that problem.

Next we have MSVCR80.dll. Now, whenever I try to run a game, or open Adobe Reader or programs like that, I get the error saying that this DLL file is missing. I have tried everything (maybe short of borrowing someone's Windows 7 CD and doing a fresh install again.). I even downloaded the DLL and placed in the according folders, did a registry edit and etc. I don't know what to do anymore. If it's noteworthy, for some reason I can't uninstall .NET framework either (and I think this may be the root of the problem.) Anytime I try uninstalling it from control panel or downloading it from Microsoft, the installer opens for one second, shows the .NET framework icon and then just vanishes, like it wasn't even there (the process terminates and is gone as well.) What exactly would be the problem and how do I fix it?

Am I out of luck? I have to use DOS batch script ... I don't want to reinvent the wheel and rewrite all existing batch files .....

First off, this is not related to any problem. This is simply a question I had when I was sitting in my office taking a break.
Also, before I ask, I understand the purpose behind the System Idle Process. I understand what it does, specifically that it runs HLT and complex power-saving threads when no other work is being done.
My question is, what would happen to the CPU if the System Idle Process did not exist? I understand a CPU can never truly be idle (in the since of no threads moving on it) so what would happen if it ever did find itself without any threads, including idle
threads?
Just a curiosity, nothing more...

Looking for a parts list or service manual (presuming it has part numbers) for the display/video cable/harness for an IdeaPad Y730, model 4053 (not the completely unrelated Y730 "Legion" series; why would Lenovo feel the need to re-use model numbers). The video is intermittent; on extremely rare occasions the LCD will start working, then next time it will be off again.  Video works off of the external/VGA port, and I'll notice if I connect to it remotely with TeamViewer when there's no monitor attached, device manager won't show any dsplay devices, which leads me to think it's the cable.  Definitely not an OS problem because a Linux bootable DVD will show the same symptoms.

Good day!
Maybe someone has encountered this issue...
This only occurs in the IE 11 browser (I don't know about other versions, but in other browsers - not).
There is a text editor (developed by Developer Express but it may not matter) on a webpage.
- I have a written text in the editor
- I copy another text from any source to the clipboard using CTRL+C
- Set the cursor in the editor somewhere withing the written text
- Paste the copied text using CTRL+V
- The text is pasted but replaces part or the existing text right after the cursor position (like in replacement mode)
It only occurs on certain computers. For example I can't reproduce it on mine despite I use IE 11 too.
Maybe there is a known solution or setting in the browser?
Thank you.

A:check existence of file or folder in batch

Hi Jerardfjay and welcome to TSF!

If you're making a dos style batch file, the info you're looking for should be this:

Code:
IF [NOT] EXIST filename command ELSE command
EG:

Code:
IF EXIST hello.txt (
DEL hello.txt
) ELSE (
ECHO hello.txt is missing
)
the 'NOT' is optional, as is the 'ELSE' section

More information can be found by typing HELP IF at the command prompt.

Until this evening I had Bluetooth capability (which is listed on the box as one of the features and which did work because I had actually used it with wireless headphones) but Microsoft have extremely helpfully updated my operating system today and now everything Bluetooth related has completely disappeared. There is no option anywhere in the Notification area. No results if I search in the start menu and no mention anywhere in my Settings. I have looked at the Device Manager and there is no mention anywhere of Bluetooth. Nothing in Network Connections or Adapater Settings. I find a bunch of files if I search the File Manager for Bluetooth but that's all I can find. I know I should probably be asking Microsoft this but are you able to help please? It's infuriating that I do not have Bluetooth anymore. Also an option for VPN seems to have appeared, which I don't believe I had before. I can't see a VPN ever being any use to me, what a **bleep**ty trade off.

I have a computer here that the owner suspects someone has installed a keylogger or something like that.

How can one test for such a thing? I know that some of this type program are quite sophisticated and do not show up in any list of running programs.

Running Windows 98 on a broadband connection.

A:Testing for Existence of Key-loggers and Truly Malicious Spyware

Run HJT and look at the running processes in the top third of the log. Hopefully that will give you an indicator.

Also, use the Find command and on the Date tab look for all files in the last two or three weeks. You can probably narrow it down to a txt or html file that seems to be growing. Many logger's report files use a txt or html format to transmit their reports back to the snoop.

I think with your experience you can tell which files to disregard and which deserve a second look. Also remember to check the file's properties for description and company name. These can be helpful.

Also check the email client sent folder and see if there are any mailings the user isn't aware of. However, most of these include their own SMTP engine so that may not help much.

Any idea of how long this has been going on? Again use the find command and scan for *.exe and *.com that have been installed in the last few months. The actual file date may be old, but the folder creation date should offer some help.

I'm having a little bit of a security issue, and I need to deny all access to my USB ports, so that no one can use the USB ports on my computer, but at the same time, I need to allow ONLY my USB key. I've been fooling around in MMC under: Local Computer
Policy/Computer Configuration/AdministrativeTemplates/All Settings: Allow Installation of devices that match any of thse device IDs.
Adding my hardware ID from my USB key to this did not accomplish anything.

A:Allow one single USB, while denying others.

Hi,

As far as I know, if you want to disable USB ports, you could enable or disable USB port in BIOS, but the problem is you cannot use those USB ports for any purpose
like connecting USB keyboards or mouse or any devices.

Here, you could set the following policies to check how it works:

1.
First, you should go to “Device Manager” to find out your USB key Hardware ID.

2.
Enter USB key Hardware ID into the Group Policy Setting Computer Configuration –> Administrative Templates –> System –>Device Installation –>
Device Installation Restrictions -> “Allow installation of devices that match any of these device IDs”

3.
Within this policy you will want to set it Enable, and then click on the “Show” button to enter your USB key hardware ID.

4.
The other related policy is the Group Policy Setting Computer Configuration –> Administrative Templates –> System –>Device Installation –>
Device Installation Restrictions -> “Prevent installation of devices not described by other policy settings”, set it Enable.

Hope it helps.

This isn't a matter of paitence, as I've been trying for the past week to let it log on.. For a matter of hours waiting for it to sign on. I know I have the right password, as I've changed it twice and can succesfully log on to Windows Messenger. I've done the troubleshooter, various times and the error codes have changed quite a few times. I'm on wireless internet, and the green check never comes up to the Wireless part of the troubleshooter. However, nothing else does either (no error sign or anything). My firewall is not stopping me from using MSN. Sometimes the Key Ports error comes up, but once I've repaired it, it doesn't come up again. I'm really sick of having to use the old MSN, so any help would be appreichiated.

Thanks,

For unknown reasons, since a while (it was not happening with 1803), I don't see the renamed files, copied files appearing, deleted files dispappearing: I need to refresh (F5) to see that.

If I refresh once, then the content of a folder is refreshed properly everytime.
But then if I start a new explorer window, symptoms reappear.

Folder options / search has default settings.
The service WSearch is disabled (it was also before I started to see the symptoms).

I've come here after running several ineffective scans, including McAfee Security Center, AdAware, and SpyBot S&D.

My laptop has contracted a particularly annoying adware virus. Every few minutes, I'll hear an audio advertisement for detergent or "crunchy onion chicken," or the ubiquitous "congratulations, you've won." Sometimes two ads play at once, but they never have a popup/window counterpart. This is the malevolence of the virus: I have no idea where the audio is coming from. As a musician, the virus is especially awful because it has made music painful to listen to. I can barely get through a full song without hearing an advertisement. Any help solving this thing would be greatly appreciated!

Anyway, I'll get down to it. Here's my HijackThis log:

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Here is a guide on how to disable them

Click me
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt log in your next reply.

I used combofix for removal of weird bad software (sorry, I know it's not right to use it by myself until I get to the forum for help). Combofix can always find several things to delete. When it starts to shut down the computer and restart, it hungs there with mouse, keyboard still responding normally. I have to manually restart it and everything comes back to normal. But those bad things come back too as is verified by running combofix immediately after the restart. Actually I don't know whether they are truely bad things as they hadn't interfere with my everyday usage of the computer. And, it could be combofix miscategorizes something as bad. But now I am preparing a clean system for ghost backup, and I think I really need to address the concern of failure to restart by combofix, thus I come here for help.

I am being told that I can't modify settings in Norton because I am not the supervisor. Who IS the supervisor? I am the administrator on Windows xp; I bought and loaded Norton Internet Security 2002. Who else could be the supervisor?

My sons want to update their game: Guild Wars and they have been denied access, which they insist is not a problem with Guild Wars, rather a problem with the firewall that gw.exe is not on the exempted list, but it won't let me on.
Any ideas?

Computer is acting funny these days. When I start up, window alerting me to registry changes pops up. I always deny these. Also, sometimes after kids finish listening to their music, I cannot access the internet-it says cannot find server. Can you identify any problems by looking at this log?

I recently updated my OE and it went through and on all the emails from one person it says "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail". Does anyone know why it did this and is there a way to undo it so that I can read the attachment?

A:OE6 denying access to attachments

Idleriver:

It is a safeguard that is built into Outlook Express 6.0 SP1.

Click Tools - Options - Security(tab). There will be a checkmark in "Do not allow attachments to be saved - - - ".

If you uncheck this, click Apply - OK, then close and reopen Outlook Express, you will be able to open and view attachments.

I strongly advise you to keep this checked until you find the need to open an attachment that you know is safe.

Why is this person sending you all these messages with an attachment? It would be safe to check first before you open them.

Well-meaning friends and family members pass on files and photos that they receive elsewhere, which is a darn good way to catch a virus.

If you have a antivirus installed(and up-to-date), do a full scan of your hard drive before you open any of them.
