Lenovo Thinkpad P1 Win 10 1903 Update not available

Q: Lenovo Thinkpad P1 Win 10 1903 Update not available

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad P1, and I am unable to update my laptop to the latest feature update for Windows 10 (1903). My product number is 20MDCTO1WW and my BIOS is N2EET39W 1.21. My laptop is currently running the latest update for Win 10 1809. At first, I couldn't even get the option to update my laptop (after it became available for everyone). Then it appeared yesterday, so I clicked download and install, and then I got a pop-up error saying that my PC isn't ready for this update and that my PC isn't supported -- with the error message (0x80240034). When I tried to update through the update assistant previously, the assistant said that something went wrong -- with the error message (0xa0000400). I know that P1's are included in the list of compatible Lenovo devices that were tested for Win 10 1903 and my laptop's drivers and such are completely up to date through the Lenovo Vantage app. Does anyone know why my P1 isn't ready for the update and/or when it will be available for me to download and install? Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am one of those Lenovo users running into the 1903 update issue due to the IntelRST driver issue. Currently, my driver is 15.2.1020, which falls in that range of problematic drivers. Attempting a driver update via device manager gets me the expected message that I have the latest driver. Lenovo does not list my machine as having been "tested" for the 1903 update, and it does not appear that any further driver updates are forthcoming. While they don't say my 4 year old machine is "end of life" it does seem like their actions suggest that.I'm curious if anyone with my model has tried any of the suggested solutions to facilitate the update:1. update driver directly from the Intel website (17.x.x or similar)..(this seems to be the logical step, but..still, a risk) 2. rename the driver file so windows ignores it 3. other..? I'll gladly go without the update rather than risk bricking my machine or causing further issues. Thanks in advance for any useful suggestions.

Hi, A week ago I updated Windows 10 to the latest version (1903). I have Win 10 Enterprise, 64bit version. This morning I discovered that two fingers scroll on my touchpad is not working. It worked before the update. I am not even sure that I have any driver installed. I can see no options nor I have any possibility to configure anything about touch pad from Mouse and pointing devices config or from Devices in Windows System settings (there is just touchpad sensitivity combo-box and nothing else)...  The rest of touchpad is working. I have Lenovo Vantage installed, no use of any options there. Could not find any applicable solutions using Google. So I decided to try here. I could provide additional informmation if needed. Please help. Thanks. Bojan

Hallo!

I hope this is the correct place to post - did not see a E series in the ThinkPad Board... I am getting an error when trying to update to Lenovo System Update version 5.07.0065.I recently upgraded the computer form Windows 7 to Windows 10. Trying to make sure my drivers were up-to-date I ran across the newer version of the System Update app. When I tried to install, it gave me this error:The old version is now none existant in Programs and Features. Any ideas? When you install Windows 10 Pro 1903, Windows always displays the error code 0x8007042B. All the solutions that Microsoft has given I did, but over and over again the installation failed. The troubleshooter displays the "possible error in Windows Update database detected" message. Who knows a solution for this.

Spoiler (Highlight to read)IMPORTANT!!IMPORTANT!!Friends from Lenovo,Yesterday I did the update to the new version of Windows 10, called Windows 10 Fall Creators Update or Windows 10, version 1709, and after the update was done I find out that the hotkey driver, that controls the Fn commands on the keyboard of my Lenovo ThinkPad X220, doesn`t work correctly with this new version of Windows 10. Therefore, I would like to know what can I do to fix this issue, so the hotkey commands work properly again in my notebook, or if it is going to be an update of this file (8jvu43ww.exe) that I could install in my notebook to fix this issue. Could you please tell me what can I do to make the Fn commands work properly with the new update of Windows 10 (Windows 10 Fall Creators Update) or if it is going to be an update of the hotkeys that is compatible with the new version of Windows 10?I look forward to hear your comments, and I hope you already have an idea, an answer to solve this issue. Yours truly,Cristián Palau

I have a P51 20HH and it refuses to update to Windows 10 1903 due to a complaint of an old version of the Intel RST driver.  I tried following all the instructions to update the driver at both the Intel site, and the official RST driver here on the Lenovo site for P51 downloads.  None actually did anything.  They appeared to work, but actually didn't do anything because the driver update software didn't see any hardware to update.  I turned on debug output on the driver update script and it basically said nothing was applied since there was nothing to do. In my case with the P51 20HH, the driver files are all there but there is zero evidence (Device Manger, etc) that any of them are in use.  I don't have Optane, RAID, etc.  Microsoft update sees the driver as an old version so it won't do the Windows update.  Meanwhile, the Intel driver install packages don't see the driver as usable, so it won't apply the update!  It is a lock out.  So, my solution for the P51 20HH was to rename C:\Windows\System32\drivers\iaStorA.sys to something else.   Proceed with caution with this solution, because if your machine is really using RST, this could cause your storage to become inaccessable, which might put you in a bad boot loop and require a BIOS boot to recovery media.  You should absolutely verify that Device Manager (Storage controllers) does not list anything Intel.  Renaming the driver requires admin priv... This describes my experience with a T580 (20L9CTO1WW) which has the above Fibocom WWAN adaptor. Everything was fine on Win 10 1809. But after the Win system updater prompted me to update to version 1903 the adaptor is no longer functional. In Device Manager it is no longer listed under Network Adaptors but now appears under System Devices as "Intel XMM7360-P'. That is the internal LTE chipset which suggests the card is still functional but not being correctly recognised by Windows. Yesterday, I spent around 2 hours with escalated Lenovo Tech Support trying to resolve this to no avail. We tried the following:updating to the latest firmware/driver package (https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/nz3wj21w.exe)uninstalling and reinstalling all driversforcing install of Lenovo driversrolling back to Win 10 1809rolling back to previous firmware/driversphysically removing and reinstalling the card So it seems there is a compatibility issue that will have to be resolved. Hopefully the next iteration of drivers/Windows updates can fix this. In the meantime, I would suggest anyone with a similar hardware setup not accept the 1903 May Update if offered. As Tech Support's final suggestion was to do a completely fresh install of (1809) Win 10 - somewhat undesirable for a lone driver incompatiblity. Alternatively, if anyone has successfully updated, please let me know and consider sharing your driver configuration. Or if anyone has any ideas on how to resol... Read more

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me, I want to upgrade the BIOS of the L560 from 1.18 to 1.43. Each time I try this, it boots into the bios system, I select bios update and follow the steps until the screen says that it will reboot, but it never does. (see screenshot) Frozen at this screenAfter hours of waiting, trying to long press (20 sec) the power button shuts down the computer. Afterwards the computer boots but displays "Secure Flash Authentication failed!"After forced rebootAfter that I have to long press (20 sec) the power button again to restart the computer and it boots back into the 1.18 (I have also tried to update to version 1.22 or 1.17 (downgrade), with the same results)And also tried to "upgrade" to the same version 1.18 as well, which doesn't work because the system says that there is no new version. Do you have any tips how to upgrade the BIOS on the L560? Kind RegardsOlaf

Running Windows 10.  TYPE 20AV-CTO1WW After having performed the Lenovo update (as advised by the software, done this many times before) the laptop is now in a state in which it will continually restart, with the message "Configuration changed - restart the system" shown during the cycle. I have tried to break this cycle by pressing various keys, but no luck there.  I then removed the main battery, AC power, and CMOS battery, and all this did was add the warning "0271: Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time Settings" to the above message.  It won't boot from a recovery USB drive I made months ago for this computer. Long story short, a Lenovo update bricked my computer.  It was working just fine before the update, and now it's a doorstop.  I've seen that this error has plagued many ThinkPad owners, and the usual excuse is a motherboard problem.  I really don't see how that's the issue. Anyone got anything?

Hi, I own a Lenovo Y70-70 Model 80DU. On 16/07/2019, I noticed that my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M was not working. When I checked the device manager, the status of my Nvidia card was "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (code 43)". I updated to Windows 1903 hoping that it would fix it and the problems began. My laptop would freeze unexpectedly and at that moment I was not aware what the problem was. I was planning to format my laptop anyway so I proceeded with formatting the entire disk and reinstalling Microsoft Windows. The problem remained and my laptop became extremely slow and unstable. I formatted a couple of times and the laptop would sometimes freeze during Windows installation. When formatted successfully (Windows 1903), I used the Nvidia drivers from Lenovo (10.18.13.5354 downloaded from https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cy/en/downloads/DS103687) and the laptop was extremely slow with frequent BSOD error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION. After some googling I suspected that it might be a problem with the SSD. So....I changed the SSD with a spare one I have which runs linux. When booted up the laptop was working flawlessly, so I narrowed down that the problem might be caused by either Windows/Nvidia or the SSD. So, I formatted the new SSD and installed Windows and I had the same exact problems which made me conclude that the problem is caused by the Nvidia drivers. I disabled the Nvidia device from the device manager and the laptop would work per... Read more

My PC is less than three years old, yet ever since the 1903 update, it keeps crashing for no apparent reason. This seems to happen whenever I am streaming content from BBC Sounds. The screen just shuts down and a a few second later the whole thing shuts down. Obviously if I happen to be recording anything with Audacity, the whole recording is ruined! I have tried not to be doing anything else at the same time, but this morning, I was just making a recording of a BBC Play on Catchup; nothing else at all, and the PC crashed yet again!

Has anyone else encountered this problem after the update? Or could it be just a coincidence and this is caused by something else?

Thanks in anticipation.

Gemma

A:PC keeps crashing after 1903 Update

Hi Gemma

The only issue Ive seen is with 1903 is with Realtek Audio drivers, no crashing but serious lagging, would your PC happen to use Realtek Audio?

Steps I would take to try to resolve, and I'm presuming BBC Sounds is accessed via the web browser.
Clear browser cache https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/help/clear_cache
Try an alternative browser.
Update the Audio and Graphics card drivers from your PC manufacturers website.

I just bought a brand new T480 (which ships with Windows 1809) from lenovo.com from for my son to take to university (in a week). On arrival, I ran Windows Update and Lenovo Vantage update until neither showed any futher updates available to install. So far, so good. 48 hours later, Windows Update started showing that the Windows 1903 update was available so I tried to install it too. It churne for hours (literally) but always failed to install in the end. Next I downloaded the Windows 10 Update Assistant to have it handle the update to Windows 1903. It too churned for more than an hour, but ultimately the update failed. There are no error messages given. If there's a log file containing more verbose error information, I don't know where it is. I've done some Googling and browsed this forum, but if anyone else is having this problem, they haven't posted about it. At this point, I don't mind very much the idea of doing a factory reset and reinstalling the OS from scratch, but I'd prefer to update from here. I have installed a few apps (e.g. MS Office; an FTP client; etc.), but I can reinstall them after a wipe. However, it is critically important that this notebook be in optimal condition when my son takes it away to college next week. He has some computer skills, but I don't want him to have the distraction of having to do maintenance on a brand new pc.  Any suggestions? Any questions I can answer for further troubleshooting?

I just got an E540 and upon a Windows install, after updating the AHCI driver, the screen glitches out (crazy colors, lines, etc) and the system locks up. After a reboot, during Windows startup, the screen glitches out again and it completely powers off. System restore removes the driver and restores the ability to boot.
I've installed the driver from both Lenovo and a newer one from Intel and get the same result.
Windows has the driver already and I'm not opposed to leaving it the way it is, I'm just really wondering about this issue and would like to eventually update.
This happens on both Windows 7 and Windows 10, by the way.

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone, I am facing troubles installing the newest drivers for the graphics adapter. First of all basic information about my machine. Lenovo Thinkpad W541 OS- Windows 7 Ultimate, Service Pack 1 System- Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4710MQ CPU @ 2,50GHz 2,50GHz- Installed memory: 16,0 GB- System tpye: 64-bit Operating System Dispaly adapters- Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600- NVIDIA Quadro K2100MAbove you can see the current driver versions of the display adapters. Unfortunately installing the driver update for display adapters from the lenovo support page (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/se/de/downloads/ds037642) didn't work. Once I got a BSOD after rebooting and the other time the driver versions just stayed the same without change. Situations when I feel that something is wrong with the drivers are for instance when I want to launch a game. After launching the game,  the screen turns immediately black and I fall back to the desktop. When launching another game, the screen just flickers black and white.  I would be grateful if somebody could help me with that matter since after hours of research I haven't been able to solve the problem myself.  Please let me know if more information is required.  Cheers,Simon

We have a number of these machines at our company and I must say they have performed well over the years under the Windows 7 Pro OS.
As Windows 7 is approaching EOL very soon, we undertook the task of upgrading all of these machines to Windows 10 Pro.
The upgrade (well actually, a complete wipe and install of Windows 10 Pro) process seems to go through without any issues.
However several of our users have begun to complain of random freezes whilst they are working where the whole system locks up (no visible errors on screen). The only way out of this is to perform a reset of the system and login to Windows again.
I have performed as much diagnostics as possible and scoured the Internet for any possible solutions but have not come across anything yet.
I'm hoping that someone on this forum has experienced somthing similar and if you have then any advice/pointers would be most appreciated.
It seems a bit of a waste in throwing away these machines as they still have some life in them.
Some further machine details - Lenovo M93 (small form factor) - MT-M 10AB 003GMH
Current OS - Windows 10 Pro (v1903)

Thanks for reading.

Hello,
It sounds as if you have done about all you can do to troubleshoot the problem. The bottom line is that 1903 was not built to run on older hardware. The only thing I can suggest is to keep watching the list mentioned here to see if your hardware is added as compatible. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/Lenovo-devices-tested-for-Windows-10-version-1903-May-2019/t...

My Ideapad 320 is still on windows 10 1803. Automatic updates keep installing for that version, but no sign of 1809 and now 1903. Will these machines ever get the latest updates? Or is it just wishfull thinking?

I have tried several times to install the Windows 10 1903 feature update on my W530 with no success. The update proceeds normally and then after a reboot it will get to a point where it just puts up a message and indicated it is undoing the changes.  It reboots and I am back to square one. Last week the message in Control panel -> Windows Updates changed and said something to the effect that the new update was not compatible with my machine and it would let me know when it was ready.     I checked again this evening and it said the update was availible.  Tried the install again and it fialed the same way. Lenovo does not mention that the update is compatible with W530 or W540 here https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht508488 Will I ever be able to update to 1903?

Currently my W10 (1809) informs me the following: "The Windows 10 May 2019 Update is on its way. We're offering this update to compatible devices, but your device isn't quite ready for it. Once your device is ready, you'll see the update available on this page. There's nothing you need to do at this time." If my memory serves me correctly, even for the 1809 release, Lenovo did not "certify" my T431s as tested, yet I received the update at some point. I hope the same is to be expected for the May 2019 (1903) update? Anyone with a T431 received it yet? //timo

My S1 Yoga, 20CD-00B1US, is stuck with the screen off and the power LED stuck on. When I try to push or hold the power button it beeps two short beeps and the LED stays solid. I was running the Lenovo Bios Update Software directly from their site. The power cord was plugged in and no other programs were running (aside from background programs). Now it is just stuck like this. Any thoughts or help would be great. I can't even get it to force shut off. Thank you in advance!

Before you attempt to upgrade from your current version of Windows 10 to version 1903, make sure all external storage drives(USB, SD, etc.) are disconnected.
Also make sure your computer's internal storage drive(SATA, SSD, eMMC, etc.) has more than 32 GB of free space.

Microsoft is concerned about the upgrade process being misdirected to the wrong drive letter if external storage drives are left connected.
The upgrade process also requires a certain amount of free space.

There are new Windows 10 laptops out there that come with a very small capacity storage drive, so I'm not sure how their owners are going to address the free space issue.

Version 1903 (also known as "May 2019 Update") is scheduled to be released very soon.

Thank you as always for the warning on the MS roll outs, flavalee. Everyone loves to play the game, "What will MS break this time?".
