Win 7 Upgrade-MANY issues!! Search, screen flashing, Outlook issues..

Q: Win 7 Upgrade-MANY issues!! Search, screen flashing, Outlook issues..

I have recently upgraded from XP to Win 7 and I have encountered so my problems I've lost count...

However, I work from home and I need to get these issues worked out NOW...

So, I am DESPERATE for answers...

1. Main problem: I have done a full system index 273,852 files and 2 days later and my search still doesn't work. Files I know are there aren't showing up and now it's not working at all. I've had several error message, but the latest is search:query= Windows cannot find 'search:query...

2. When on certain screens, my monitor flashes/blinks and it is driving me nuts. I've read threads where the screen fades to black and back and mine is NOT doing that. It just blinks like you're blinking your eyes.

3. When using Chrome everything seems to be loading very slowly. For instance, when I click on Google or a new tab and start typing it takes a while to see the text where this didn't happen before.

I know each one of these issues probably belongs in a different section of the forum, but I'm desperate to get them fixed and QUICK, so PLEASE HELP!!!!! I'm pulling my hair out!!!

Preferred Solution: Win 7 Upgrade-MANY issues!! Search, screen flashing, Outlook issues..

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

What kind of processor is in it. I Googled and it appears to be a Pentium 4. If that is the case, it will be very slow. I have an old Pentium 4 that I put Win 7 and it is just so slow I can't use it. == The monitor flashing could be that it needs drivers. Go to the manufactuers' site and down load the current video driver.

After not turning on my PC for about a month, I went to turn it on and the following events took place:
1. Normal boot to Desktop, no problems
2. Desktop image is stable on both monitors (dual monitor setup)
3. I let it sit there for a couple of minutes waiting for everything to load
4. I click to open "ANY" program and screens go to a flashing state of black and momentary program, back and forth, back and forth, single screen or both doesn't matter, Checked all connections off of video card output to monitors and there fine.
5. Finally I get the "BLUE" screen of death
6. PC automatically shuts down and goes to boot up a Option Screen for SAFE MODE
7. PC works fine in SAFE MODE w/Network option, but won't do a "RESTORE" either from SAFE MODE

I never got a Win 7 Disk with the PC, but I did create a IMAGE disk on my WD Portable HD a few months ago. How do I get that file (on the WD HD) to run as I can't see any EXE files to get it started and I can't get the PC the start it either. I'm starting to attempt to copy all my files off the PC in case I'll need to something drastic.

Any help is greatly appreciated is getting me back up and running, and by the way, I'm not vary computer savy, so please refer to things to do as a dummy like me can understand them. Great site and thank you all for sharing your knowledge with dummy's like me................

Dell inspiron 14z n411z, I have tried to install the intel hd 3000 graphic drivers from both microsoft and from the intel website. issue is occasionally screen will "flash" as in glitch sideways a little for a split second. I don't think they is any damage to the laptop itself because shaking it, or moving the screen open/close does not cause the screen to glitch up. it just happens completely randomly.

I just recently installed a fresh copy of 7 on a clean parition, but i think it had been doing it prior. maybe another driver or something i have installed is interfering with the graphics driver? I have tried re-installing random drivers, but it didn't have any effect.

Do you see the flickering problem in safemode? All Windows 7 drivers are available at the Dell website including the video driver. Remove the Intel driver completely and use the custom driver from Dell.

I have given upon Windows instant search as even on an Intel i7 Quad core processor with 3GB ram, Instant search slows down the system, generally interfering with speed of all processes in a way that I just find unacceptable.

I have removed instant search and resorted to using the address book search which if fine for my needs BUT even that does not bring up entries that are quite obviously there in my conatacts.

Is there any answer to this as yet? I have searched the net and am finding only inconclusive stuff at the moment. Does anyone know if Microsoft anything to say other than suggesting stuff that does not work?

A:Outlook 2007 Search Issues

exactly this is the big problem of outlook.
you cannot search efficiently. of course, there are things like search folders or instant search. but i think there is just one solution, a search tool.

this will solve your problem: Lookeen

Ever since I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10, this SoftThinks Agent Service is taxing my HDD to 100% slowing things down.
This is related to Dell Backup and Recovery software. I can kill this service and that's that but every-time I start up, this happens.
As for sleep mode, I will come back to my laptop and raise the lid, hit the keys, move the mouse, nothing. I hit the power button and nothing. So I hold the power button and then hit it to boot up, so clearly there are issues in relation to sleep mode and something shutting it off. (others have posted the same)
I installed all newest Intel drivers on your site and I read 1 user stated to uninstall Intel Rapid Storage, which I did. Intel Management Engine remains as I am still trying to troubleshoot. Are you testing all these new drivers you are putting out for download? Do I need to go back to Win8.1, your site said my laptop could be upgraded.
Please advise and "do the needful".

same thing here as far as the power issues. you must remove the 2 other intel things that were installed along with the Intel rapid storage
intel security assist
intel management engine something or other (cant remember the exact name)
i still have the intel graphics and chipset drivers installed without any problems. it was just the intel rapid storage stuff that caused all the power , sleep mode problems..

Hey all, i will keep this brief as last time i had written every piece of info only to get the BSOD just as i was about to subit my question!!!

I have a ACER Aspre t671 running VISTA, Intel Pentium 2.80 ghz, radeon xpress 1300 video adaptor, not overclocking.

Ok basically i've had this pc for 4/5 years and never installed any upgrades (and never had a blue screen!..until now)

I basically upgraded to WIN 7 and as it only had 1GB RAM i purchased another 2GB(2x1GB) from crucial after making sure it was the correct RAM for my PC.

Since installing windows i have had countless blue screens which seem to trigger at random.

I have done much testing including:

running chk dsc several times
runnung the memtest86 and getting 10 passes
uploaded the DMP fileson other forums (people seem to think it is not the RAM causing the problem but System corruption)
here are the dumps: http://rapidshare.com/files/1996278796/Minidumps.zip

here are the SFC details: http://rapidshare.com/files/3201248504/sfcdetails.zip

Also updates everyhting using windows update, tried taking out the new RAM, swapping RAM etc.

Today i even did a clean install back to Vista, and still getting blue screens all with different error codes/messages each time.

Can anyone help me with this its driving me nuts!

Thanks

You say you have reverted back to Vista now, did you take the ram back to original at the same time, meaning the original 1GB stick?

Hello all,

I had my Satellite Pro P100 (Model Number is PSPAEE-00C006EN and the second digit of the serial number is "7") upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 and since then, a couple of bugs seem to have occurred - can anyone help on the following:

-Screen DIMS in increments, regardless of the fact that I have saved my power settings to remain on FULL (battery or mains power)

-No sound. Once or twice, the sound card has worked and the settings say it works properly (and you can see the graphic equalizer moving).
In terms of PC knowledge, I'd be 5/10 (so not a dummy , but certainly not a pro! and have tried a lot of the more obvious things)

Thanks all

A:Satellite Pro P100 - Screen and sound issues after Windows 7 upgrade

Hello

1.) If the screen dim option doesn?t work properly anymore, I would recommend reinstalling Toshiba Value Added Package. This package controls such functions, FN keys and others. Check the Toshiba page for an update!!!

2.) Have you checked if the sound is muted if the equalizer works? Furthermore you can also try updating the sound driver? Maybe it works ;)

Hello there! I upgraded from a fairly old install of Windows 7 (Installed 8/2011) to Windows 10 on 7/21, and have had a series of intermittent blue screens and have been spending the last week or so trying to self-diagnose and see if I could come up with a solution using Windbg to look at the crash logs, but I really wasn't able to discern too much from the information.

The list of BSOD 'reasons' I was able to remember were:
DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER
BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER

So far, I have gone through and checked to see if I had any incompatibilities with drivers (My webcam controller from Logitech needed to be refreshed and such) as well as running 'Advanced SystemCare 9' to "Optimize my PC" -- something that was suggested on another site for similar problems to what I was having, I did a brief look around google to see if it was total quackery but it seemed to help with some things, but hasn't fully fixed my issues.

I have also ran Memtest 86+ for 2 passes and had no faults reported, I have considered running an extended test, to see if it would produce any further errors, but that is why I am sure it is driver-related.

When I ran Driver Verifier, It had first crashed at "cscrysec.sys" which is from "Infowatch" so I reset verifier and set it to run another check minus the "Infowatch" drivers, in which it crashed at "scsiport.sys" which I couldn't get too much information on, and couldn't continue using my method of "Ig... So this monitor is from April 09, and I've have no issues with it until now. When I boot it up, the monitor will occasionally be vigorously flashing on and off again. Just now, it continued to turn off and back on, and while it did, the display on the screen would change colors and even shake.I'm no expert on this, so I'm not 100% sure if it's the CPU or the monitor itself. My computer is an HP Pavilion p6210y, and its graphics card is NVIDIA Geforce 9100, and was also recently updated as of November. Also, when I start the computer, it occasionally displays the blue HP bootup screen, and sometimes it won't. When it doesn't, I notice that that's when the screen starts flashing quickly. When it has the blue startup screen, it's pretty much all good for a while.During use, it'll randomly turn off and back on continuously until the Amber light comes on and tells me that it is going into sleep mode. It says I have no connection via HDMI or VGA, when I clearly do and have checked multiple times.I would like to know if there's some sort of ongoing issue, maybe a malware, or if I just need a new monitor. Please help! Thank you!

Okay, About three months ago, I got hacked HARD...permissions were changed, administrator rights were removed from my administrator accounts, etc. i was flabbergasted. THe iactually didn't bother me though until I ran a MBAM scan and found 133 viruses and spyware instances on my drive (NOT including tracking cookies!). I cleaned and recleaned, using MBAM, SuperantiSpyware, Avira, running each one in safe mode first, then loading into my normal account and running them, and finally erasing my user account and creating a new one. But even after the new user account was created with Administrator privileges, I still routinely received virus and Malware threat warnign flags from MBAM and Avira. Eventually, Avira and MBAM were disabled and Avira was "deleted" (Windows will not uninstall because the setup.exe file has been 'Changed" and won't reinstall it because I don't have "Administrator privileges" on my Administrator accounts!) even though at startup I receive an error message saying that Avira has been corrupted. The most telling issue is that antivirus and spyware/Malware scans come up clean on Safe mode scans, but using my normal account, the machine reboots. Using Superantispyware I notice that it's always during the memory test that this occurs (and in Safe Mode, it passes through this section with no issue). None of my antivirus programs will download updates, even ones I start manually, and although I have no problem acc... Read more

But what....lol...please advise, thanks so much!

Hi @pierette, Thank you for your query I understand that you are having an issue with the display quality.  When the image was distorted you powered off the notebook and flipped it upside down and then upside right. When you started the notebook the display was fine. You have recently replaced the hard drive and now you thing something may be loose.  I would try removing and reseatting the graphic card and check the display cable connection to ensure a proper connection.  Here is a link to  HP Notebook PCs - Diagnosing a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) for Damage. Please let me know the outcome. Thanks! Hi All --Last weekend I caught what I believe was a case of mssearchnet + nvctrl and perhaps spyfalcon. Using the advice of this site (awesome, thanks!) and some others, I've managed to be back to normal with one really annoying exception: the "Virus Alert!" flashing icon and occassional message ("Your computer is infected! Interesting to note that no link appears to be functioning in the pop-up box. It's just flashing and popping up every so often. I've gone through many other posts on this and have run the following (in safe mode as well as normal boot mode): ad-aware, spybot, ewido, panda, mcafee, stinger. Hello, My parents have owned a Lenovo laptop for a couple of years now. However, recently this issue showed up and I wondered whether there is a chance there is a solution to this problem which I could try myself, since the laptop its warranty already expired. If I recall correctly, the model of the laptop is the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 2, running Windows 10. So here is the issue; the laptop has issues turning on. Oddly enough, it is not a very consistent issue. Eventually, the laptop does turn on. The problem is that this sometimes takes hours, other times the laptop appears to be able to boot instantly as it normally would. I have no idea what affects this. When pressing the power button, the keyboard backlight starts flashing. It does this until the laptop completely boots, and as I said, the amount of time this takes varies. I already tried looking for solutions on different forums, but they usually concern the issue where the keyboard backlight flashed and the laptop simply will not boot at all, which is not the case here, as it eventually does but often it takes a while.Other solutions suggested a certain amount of flashes meant a certain issue or failure. Problem here is that the amount of flashes seem to be random, so it is not as if it just keeps looping a certain amount of flashes as it varies. This leaves me puzzled as to what could be the culprit. I am not sure what to do, especially since I have not owned a Windows-based machine in a whi... Read more

Hi, I have an older HP d530 SFF running WinXP

I wanted to upgrade from the current 40Gb HDD to a new 80Gb, and used the Seagate disk wizard (powered by Acronis) to clone the old drive to the new using an external case.

When I swap the disks and power on, I get a message reporting the new disk size is 80Gb - save to BIOS? (yes) then the HP logo screen and can access BIOS (if I hit F10 fast enough!) but then the screen goes black except for a flashing cursor in the top left. I am unable to type or do anything at that point (except Ctrl+Alt+Del.) This is the same whether or not I go to the Bios (it does the same thing on exiting BIOS)

Unfortunately I do not have the media for my (legit) XP installation as I didn't come with the machine when I bought it, but I have the sticker with the code .

Is there anyway to get the new disk running without having to pay for a new copy of XP? I had thought the cloning would get around this, as the program says if the old disk was bootable the new one will be too. The SFF case does not have room for two HDDs, or I'd just install it as a slave.

Thanks in anticipation, I have solved many probs before by searching this great site, but can't find this one...

I am trying to prep a computer to give to a friend. Last night, I reformatted it using the recovery discs that came with it. It is a Tosh Satellite A105.

Today, I have been finding and installing updates to the system, trying to prepare it for an upgrade to win7, which is no easy task since I have had to go out and find some of the drivers and service pack 3.

I am using the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, and need input on which of these 11 issues really are issues, and which I can skip and just install new once I upgrade.

Adobe issues -- I uninstalled it.

Toshiba Blue Tooth Stack for xp version 4.0 -- I downloaded and installed version 7.0, but have not uninstalled 4.0. It doesn't make sense to my feeble brain why I would have to uninstall 4.0 if I installed 7.0 unless it is because I downloaded the 7.0 instead of upgrading to it?

Here is a list of the rest:
MS .NET Framework 1.1 --I downloaded and installed a later version, so which version do I need to find?

Toshiba ConFigFree -- No clue what this is.

Intel ProSet/Wireless software -- ZeroCfgSvc Application -- No clue

Toshiba Utilities -- I have updated everything available from ms, so is this another one that I have to go find, and if so, what version?

To be uninstalled unless someone suggests otherwise:
Messenger
Realplayer
Realtek HD audio driver
Sonic Record now
Yahoo music engine

Thanks a bunch in advance for any help!

1st, you can't upgrade from XP to Windows 7, you have to do a Clean Install which means boot the DVD and format the drive, so nothing you do to XP will have any effect.

See here: Upgrade Install - XP to Windows 7

My recommendation would be to do an image backup of the XP system then do a Clean Install (with format), apply all updates then start restoring your data from the backup. All software will have to be reinstalled, it can't be copied from the backup to Win 7.

HI..

Ive got an Outlook 2003 using Boss and a Outlook 2002 using Assistant who are having issues with sharing their calendar. The assistant is inputting appointment data into her bosses Outlook 2003 Calendar.

The issue is : The 2002 user puts in a whole day appointment on a given day (say 10/10/2004). When she opens her bosses 2003 calendar, the same appointment is still a whole day, but it stretches across 2 days (in this case 10/10/2004 and 11/10/2004). Both users use common Regional Settings (Australia).

Outlook 2002 user is at Office XP SP3.
Outlook 2003 user is at Office 2003 Pro SP1
Exchange Server 2000 (sp unknown)

Anyone have any ideas for me?

Hi everyone,

At work we have outlook 2003 and I cannot upgrade that computer, at home I have recently upgraded to outlook 2007 but it left me with a little problem.

I use tasks to delegate jobs out to my team and I have it set up so categories are in fact their names. I used to send task requests with the name of the employee in the category section and when it arrived in the work inbox someone would accept the task and it would immediately go into that particular employees task category.

Now I have 2007 Outlook and although I have set categories up as they used to be (employee names) the task request gets accepted (at work) and instead of going under the employee name it goes into it's own category with no specific category.

Can anyone tell me (short of going back to outlook 2003) how to solve this issue?

Thanks

I was wondering if anyone has seen this and has the fix for it. I'm running Outlook 2003 under Windows XP. When starting Outlook, I will momentarily see pending calendar items and tasks on the Outlook Today panel but it then goes blank. In addition, the Save Changes function on Outlook Today customization seems to be ignored. I'm the administrator of my local PC. I've tried the Detect and Repair option with no luck. Following a Microsoft tech letter, I renamed outlwvw.dll and had the system reinstall the dll - again no change.

If anyone knows what is wrong I'll be very grateful. Many thanks.

I suppose this might fall under gaming but it does not apply to gaming only.

Basically I have an issue happening with a game full screen and when I play it the search and help functions in windows constantly open and minimize the game. I am having issues with F1 opening help and something else opening the search which closes any full screen app I have open.

Personally I would like to strip the features right out of my install or break them so they can no longer work. I am pretty pissed off about this right now because they are useless features I never use and yet they cause me problems on a daily basis.

Any ideas how I can get rid of this once and for all?

I don't want to disable certain services because it disables other things effected by it. I do want to stop the keys from triggering the feature though.

Hey guys im having a problem wherein every other day it seems the search function of my laptop isnt working. That is, every other day when I search for something I get the message no results found. I then index the search and then results can be found.

I cannot stand having to index the machine every other day right now I need to complete a report for work and I cannot remember which folder has a document I need which could assist me greatly in completing this report and of course the search isnt working.

Can anyone assist me.

I installed and ran the MS hotfix for the issue, tried to register the 3 suggested dlls only 2 registered, uninstalled AVAST because it was the day after I installed avast that I first encountered the problem.

However, none of these work the only temporary fix has been the continuous indexing.

I would be extremely grateful for your replies and assistance.

This may help and can't hurt. If you haven't done this already. Run sfc /scannow from the cmd. prompt as admin. System file checker will check your system files. If it finds a problem run it two more times. If and when you run sfc do nothing else on your computer, no programs, mouse, keyboard ect.Do you have any programs like, Tune up your PC or registry fixer uppers installed.

Saw something weird on my desktop this morning and accidentally opened it instead of deleting it. Great.

Now I'm having internet connection issues, I have an unwanted IE "Security" Toolbar, 2 flashing icons in my system tray, System Alert balloons, popups that try to force me to download more malware (citing [email protected]), and a huge headache. The website(s) offers download options: wav2008setup.exe / download.av-win.com / download.av-ultima.com / download.av-adv.com

It also seems to be creating random shortcuts here and there that actually link to a website: hxxp://www.allprivatelinks.com/doc.php?type=picture

I have posted the following logs below:
1) a hijack this log;
2) Hijack this startup log; and

I have a gmer log but including it as text makes my post too long.

I am unable to run RSIT - I get an AutoIt Error that reads,

Line - 1:
Error: Subscript used with non-Array variable.

As I know just enough about windows to get myself in trouble, I'm not trusting any other instructions I get on the internet. Can someone please help? My position was recently eliminated and I really need to work on my resume and job search instead of worrying about this.

Thanks in advance,
Lisa

Hi,

I have recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7 Home Premium (technically this is a new install, not an upgrade) and am experiencing major issues with the integrated Windows Desktop Search. XP was never showing any of these issues.

Configuration:

Filestore (Word,PDF,Excel and whatnot) plus PST files are on a qnap SAN, connected via mapped network drive. All that content has been indexed perfectly under XP. The UNCFAT extension to allow indexing of UNC shares has of course been installed.

Problem:

The search is indexing all email objects but only very few of the physical files, I can't identify any pattern for this behaviour. Some old ones, some new ones but even a complete index rebuild did not fix the issue.

Example: I do have a lot of word documents starting with TRUG (hundreds), only 8 recent ones are found through the search, no matter if content or filename is being searched for. Other search terms return 1 old PDF (year 2006) while there are a lot more documents.

None of the affected objects differ in any way, same word version, same template, same permissions.

And, what puzzles me most, Windows claims to have indexed around the same number of items as under XP...but is only showing marginal search results.

Any further ideas? I could buy a 3rd party application such as Copernic Desktop Search but don't see the point...the function is there and should work.

This is the only issue that's giving me fits in the moment...aside of that, Windows 7 is a damn good OS... Read more

A:Windows 7 Search issues

Thread can be closed, I will not spend any further time on this to analyze, I am fed up with it. I will use Copernic Desktop Search from now on which works brilliantly out of the box.

I have been further experimenting with local folders being added to a library and then creating a link to the UNC shares under that name, as suggested on Add UNC path to search index in Windows 7. However, this does not work as well, not even after another complete index rebuild. Still marginal results.

I don't really understand why Microsoft is offering such an incomplete and obscure search solution with Windows 7 (who the heck needs all these libraries, federators and whatnot) and why you even need an outdated special add-in "UNCFAT" which isn't even officially supported for Windows 7. Search in Windows 7 really sucks, good for competitors such as Copernic.

Let me start by first exclaiming how happy I am to have finally found a forum like this. From what I've seen, everyone here is very friendly and helpful! Please, correct me if I am posting in the wrong part of the forum for this..

I've recently been having trouble with right clicking, and using search. The button just doesn't seem to work! {On search, that is.} I go into My Documents, and click the search icon, and nothing happens. I can't even search for search x3... Also, my right click has been.. lacking. I can highlight icons with it on my desktop, and in folders, but the usual list that comes up, doesn't. Please give me any advice you have, thank you!

Hey mate, when you open google, do you get this or something like it?:

If not, try logging out and exit browser, then log back into google. Sometimes you need to enter search terms before you can change settings. After that, the option to change to video/picture/etc is on the left side and the top of the browser window. Change safe mode by clicking the cog wheel to the far right of the window, towards the top. Then change search settings.

If that doesn't work, try deleting your cookies and try again.

Alternatively, you could try Bing, which some suggest is just as good as Google.

I'm sure there are threads on this already, but I'm in a bind so I don't have time to search!  In the older version of Windows, there was a "Search" button in the Start menu, where the Control Panel, Computer, Documents, etc. is located.  In this new version it is gone.  I realize you can search in Word (I have Word 2013), but it is nowhere NEAR as exhaustive as the old search function was.  I need to be able to search all the documents on the f:drive we use at work for all the documents we do, specifically to find words within the documents.  Right now, the search function only searches to see if that word is in the title of the document; I need it to search the body of the document.

I've tried a couple of fixes - going to the Control Panel and turning on the search function in "Turn Windows Features On or Off", etc., but nothing works.

I'm trying to resolve some issues I'm having with finding files within folders on my computer. For instance, when I open a folder and type the name of some files into the "Search Box" (be it an .mp3 or .jpg) no matter what part of certain file names I type in, for some reason Search cannot find them even though I know for sure that the folder contains the file I'm looking for. But interestingly, when I type whatever file names that couldn't be found in the previous way into the search box at the bottom of the start menu it can locate the file. Why is this?

Thank you so much for your help!

I forgot to add, I've also tried rebuilding the index which didn't resolve the problem.

Thanks...

Hello Araara, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You may need to change your search settings to what they are in this tutorial to get a thorough search.

Search Options

You might also see if doing an advanced search including non-indexed locations can find them for you to.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

If I try to do a search in any Windows Explorer screen, nothing happens. It does not matter what I am looking for, the driver or the folder. I can type the name of the file or even just use a wildcard like *.mp3 and after pressing enter, nothing happens.

If I try to search from the start button I get no results, but I do get an option to show more results, unlike an explorer windows.

If I hit the show more results option, the following error appears:Window title is "search:query=*.*"
Error window body is "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the proper permissions to access the item."

I am signed in as the true adminisitration (not some stupid pseudo admin) and UAC is disabled.

Windows search service is automatic and started.
Indexing is on and I have verified that the C: and E: drives are indexed, I can not remove the data; appdata; appdata exclusions from the C:. If you modify either drive, all locations are checked for indexing.

under Advanced Options, I have already rebuilt the index from the troublshooting section and that did not help.

all file types are selected for processing.

I don't even get the option to choose unindexed locations.

I have tried multiple microsoft fixits and all of them say that they are not for my windows version, despite the fact that I have Win7 SP1.

There's a lot more that I have tried but it appears that I have already deleted the files... yeah, that's helpful.

Hello jamison. Welcome to the Forum

The first step in trying to fix an error like this is to run System File Checker to find and replace any missing or corrupted system files.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I have Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) and recently I cannot use search from the start menu (search box.)  I have tried everything, including suggestions from 'help'.  When I try to search, I get the message that the Index is not turned on. It
offers to turn it on but when clicked, it does not turn on.  I would appreciate any help/suggestions. Thanks!

Hi,
I've used the forums before and everyone was a load of help and my laptop ran perfect afterwards. As of late however I am seeing increased pop-ups, having my google search infected with adds, and having something called desktop search harass me. I've done everything recommended and now I come here asking for your help. Thank you very much.

A:Pop-up, search Hijacker issues....Please help

You may just post the result.txt file.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

I have for some time now been experiences redirects to other sites then those I wanted to go to from google. I have read several other people's threads with this issue, but have been unable to fix it myself. I have had microsoft's support team look at it twice now, but they just run the same antivirus/malware programs I use and say its fixed when they can't instantly recreate the issue. The redirects are random, and hard to reproduce when you want them to occur.

My internet connection is running very slow. In addition to this, when I do a search on Yahoo, the first 10 results never have anything to do with my search, they are always some sort of advertisements or something. Can you please examine my Analyzed log file to see if there is anything I should take care of? I have already done AdwareSE. Thanks very much for your help.
