My hp pavilion dv5 1235dx will not boot up

Q: My hp pavilion dv5 1235dx will not boot up

My laptop will not boot up. I have call customer service and went through test after test with no problems found. Is anyone else having this same problem? I would appreciate any ideas.

Preferred Solution: My hp pavilion dv5 1235dx will not boot up

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, this Hp Pavilion dv5-1235dx integrated webcam won't work. I've tried everything, quickplay, acer drivers, hp drivers, everything! I am very fed up with this!

The device status says:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

The required section was not found in the INF.
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

This is not my computer, but it's a friend's after he formatted both partitions of his computer. The repair partition. Not sure what I can do, please help, he desperately needs this!

My battery goes to low and the computer shutsdown while I had an excel and msword document open with work in process but not saved and at the same time a couple of browser windows open.
When above situation occurred, I simply plugged in my power supply, pressed the power button and when the computer rebooted I would see a resume windows session, at which time I would click enter. This is all I did. The computer would then bypass my login password screen and everything would resume exactly as it was with all windows open, and nothing lost and just as it was before it shutdown due to low power.
When I now press the power button and click to resume the windows session, the computer reboots successfully but only to the desktop. The windows that were peviously opened are gone and I must now start my work over again.
I can't seem to find the setting to revert back to "WHAT USE TO BE".

The small 6-cell display battery charges great, but the larger 12-cell battery wont take any charge. I think, that Li-Ion batteries sleep after not being charged for a long time. The symptoms are that the battery isn't holding enough charge, for the charging mechanism to "recognize" the battery. Hence, it reads nothing so it acts as if the battery is defective for safety purposes, and will not charge it until that battery has a voltage high enough to be "recognized". Same exact thing just happened to my Li=Ion cordless drill batteries. They work under the same exact principles, they charge up, and discharge exactly the same. MANY times when a Li-Ion battery will not take a charge, and customer throws it out, buys expensive new battery. All that old battery needed was a "jump start", then takes a charge like a champ! So, what I need to know in HP computerland is: what is the best way to see if it's 'sleeping', and then give it that little "jump start" extra charge so that it "wakes up" and the charger will THEN "recognize" it and charge it normally? Please anyone reply with anything! -thx EZ

A:HP DV5 1235dx

Wll I am not sure your analogy to a sleeping bear is exactly on point and HP does not encourage anybody to "jump start" a battery for safety concerns. However I can remember in the day we used to revive batteries by taking a 9 volt or 12 volt DC battery and run an alligator clip lead to a piece of aluminum or copper stuck in the positive pole channel of the battery and then run an alligator clip to ground from a similar piece of metal in the negative pole.  This is not guaranteed. In fact, not likely to work. This was a trick that worked on older Ni-Mh batteries before smart chips were as smart as they are now and equally likely to just fry the smart chip. Odds are on a laptop that old the battery is not "sleeping" at all it is either dead or the smart chip has diasabled it because of an excessive cycle count. Li-ion batteries get more fire hazard dangerous if they have lots of cycles on them so OEMS have the chip programmed to turn them off when they get too many. The shock might also reset the chip. Just wear eye protection and take reasonable precautions. Don't want to lose your eyesight because you are too thrifty to spend $40 on a replacement battery.

I just installed windows 7 on the hard drive after a full wipe, now that the software is up and running the LED for the power adapter will no longer show that the battery is charging and even if the laptop is off it still refuses to charge. I was going to run the BIOS flash to see if that would solve the problem but it says to do it with external power connected and I'm afraid to do it under battery power. This is NOT the first time it has happened, the first time it stopped I had it checked under warranty and HP replaced the hard drive for what seemed like no reason at all. Also, there have been intermittent cases where the laptop has refused to charge and unplugging it from it's current outlet and into a different one has solved the problem, but this time it doesn't seem to be doing the trick. Any ideas. Cheers/

Hi, First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter unplugged, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute. Now, plug in the AC Adapter and see if the notebook will start without the battery inserted, if it does, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and theMicrosoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and selectUninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the PC down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the notebook on just the battery.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes without doing anything. Then shutdown the notebook again.  Plug the AC Adapter back in and Start the notebook to see if this has helped the issue. Best wishes, DP-K

HP Pavilion 6355 has the following issues:

1) Computer will not shut down by holding in power button. It must be "unplugged from outlet."

2) When power cord plugged in the light sequence on the tower reads, from left to right, yellow, green.

3) A Thumping sound comes from speakers, not the typical Bios Beeps.

4) Monitor is blank, yellow light indicator on.

5) Cannot open CD Drive, even manually.

This computer belongs to a friend of mine whose daughter uses it for High School work. She was working on it one day, received an error message, no, no, writing it down would be to easy , so she shut down using start-shutdown, and left for school. When she came back and resumed her work she was met with the above scenario.

Any ideas as to the most expeditious way to get to root of issue.

I have the following problem with my HP Pavilion m7570n. When I turn the system on if gives the following message: File is missing or corrupt

A:HP Pavilion won't boot

Try this first -

If that does not work then do a repair XP install (not the HP restore)

I am pretty sure the HP restore partition will wipe everything out and put it back to factory fresh.

1. Check if the USB device is really bootable, you can do that by checking the files on the root location or by trying to boot another computer using it.2. Start the computer and press 'esc' key to get into bios, then choose Boot Options or Boot Menu, then choose the USB device (Few BIOS have an option to enable/disable Legacy boot options, hence you have to enable it before you could change the boot sequence. Please note that the USB device needs to be on top of boot device list.

Hi Folks,
I'm not super techy, but I have read a ton of webpages on how to (possibly) fix my desktop computer.

It no longers boots up, no beeps, no blinking LEDs, no sign of life!

Here's the details,
HP Pavilion p6218f from 2009 ( win 7 )
prod #: AU993AA-ABL

Recently, the computer was having trouble after using sleep mode. It would sleep, then turn off completely, but the power switch would not turn the computer on, I would have to unplug, re-plug to start it up again.

Three days ago, the above happened, but unplug-replug would not help. Now the computer will not turn on. No beeps, no fans, no lights.

When plugged in, there is a green light on the power supply ( kind of flickers when first plugged in ) and there is a green led lit up on the motherboard.
All peripherals are disconnected, including mouse, keyboard and monitor.

Here is what I have tried:
1. Replaced CMOS battery.
2. Looked into CMOS reset - unplugged, removed cmos battery, held down power button for 15 seconds.
3. Exchanged power cord for another one.
4. Shorted green wire and black wire on 24 pin connector, plugged in - power supply fan runs,
5. Checked 24 pin connector ( with green and black shorted ), got 3.3, 5, and 12 volts.
6. Checked yellow wire, and red wire on a 4 pin connector. got 12v and 5 v

Does all this seem like the like power supply is okay?? Should I look up which pins should have which voltages?

7. Pushed down on all connectors, ram and cards inside the com... Read more

A:HP Pavilion does not boot from CD

Hi Ossita
If the boot order is set to optical drive first, the laptop looks at its internal optical drive. Since it seems like the internal optical drive is not usable(?) then you need to set the boot order to USB or external device ahead of the hard drive.

My computer will not boot. The power supply light in the back turns on.  Fans turn on.  CD-ROM functions.  No USB power and no LED light on the front.  It does not come on at all when the computer turns on.  When I turn on the power, I hear nothing but the fans, the screen is blank and keyboard and mouse have no lights.  I have tested the monitor, keyboard and mouse and they are functioning.  I think it could be the BIOS or either a motherboard problem.  I need some help to narrow down the problem.

Hello, I have 2 notebooks. HP Pavilion DV6-3060EZ which i used and old HP Compaq nx5000. Both have same problem. They won't boot up, but I will talk just about DV6. My battery died and I can't start notebook just with ac adapter. So yesterday I bought new battery. And there is same problem.  When I press power button (with only battery plugged in, only ac-adapter, or both), led diods starts blinking, fan starts cooling and within 1 second it will shut down. I've read some articles on forum, i tried almost everything. I tried to disconnect ac adapter, battery, than 30 seconds hold power button and connect it back but it didn't work too.  But, three-times happens, that when I tried to turn it on, it worked well, I was at Windows on my desktop. But after 5 minutes it shuts down. Thanks for any advice,czDAWID

When I try to boot the PC it dies and starts over again. I can choose safe mode etc and go into the recovery console but still no success.

What can be the problem? Motherboard? RAM memories??

Is there a way to check for errors on the motherboard or RAM from the recovery console?

Welcome to TSF....

How to perform a Repair Installation of Windows? XP.

Two things are needed here, just a bit of old technology, an ink pen and a piece of paper to write down any special settings that might have to be changed back after the repair-installation is completed.

Please Note: Performing a "Repair Installation" in this manner should not delete any Personal Files, it should 'repair' the core of the installation but to be safe with your data you should follow the next two paragraphs.

You might have to remove the hard drive from this computer and install it in another computer as a slave drive and after it is able to be accessed by Windows on that computer you will have to manually backup all of your important data that you have to another media like CD-R's, DVD or external hard drive. Then when this is done return it to the original computer as a master drive on the primary IDE cable. and do the following:

The details that follow require an above-average understanding of the technical topics involved. If you do not understand the Registry material presented here, either find a technically knowledgeable friend or do not attempt to repair your system Registry yourself. Improper changes in the System Registry can render all data on your hard disk inaccessible. :

Here is a link to a registry backup program that is absolutely fantastic it is called ERUNT and you would use this to backup the registry after running the r... Read more

I've been running an HP Pavilion 9680c w/ Win98 SE. Everything was working fine until a few days ago...Now when I turn on the computer the following happens....

1. The Blue 'HP' Welcome screen appears
2. The Bios Boot-up Screen Appears, letting me know that my hard-drive, dvd drive, cd-rw drives (i.e. primary master, secondary master, secondary slave) have been detected. During this time, my hard-drive and disc drives all light up and are turning.
3. The bootup process stops there. WHere it should say something like 'Starting Up Windows', there is nothing. Instead the bootup process seems to just stand still.

I am able to enter the BIOS setup screen during bootup by pressing F1. I've tried replacing the hard-drive but this did not solve the problem. I also tried using recovery disks, the Windows 98 OS setup disk, and a Norton Utilities' Recovery disk, all of which have not had any effect. I was wondering if there is anything else (motherboard jumpers, etc.) that somebody thinks might work.

A:HP Pavilion dv7-3067nr will not boot

Hi! If the caps lock is blinking twice it mean the bios is corrupted You can try to rollback the bios, press and hold the windows key then press hold tas well the letter B, while holding those keys power up the pc If nothing happens, try to power on again but immidiately tap ESC repeatedly , startup menu will appear on the screen. If you dont have the start up menu, try to power on again then immidiately tap F2 or F10 In F2 there's an option BIOS management,  choose the option ROLLBACK IN F10,  set the bios into defaults by pressing f9 , then f10 again to save the changes and reboot the system.   Thanks! Unfortunately, as it's a laptop, there isn't much that you will be able to do with it. It sounds like a power circuit or motherboard fault. If it's under warranty, have it repaired/replaced. Otherwise, it's very likely more cost effective to simply replace it.

I have a Pavilion DV 6700 that I am attempting to repair. The issue is when its powered on it goes straigh to "Press F1 to rsume, F10 to Setup. F1 does nothing, F10 doenst do much either. When I enter the BIOS to perform a HDD self check, it says the self test is disabled. When you first power the laptop on, the HDD light does come on for short time. I have tried resetting the BIOS, booting with a Vista disk (I believe this is the OS installed, however not 100% sure). When I boot with a Vista disk, recovery find no HDD. I tried with an XP disk, and got the same result. This is a SATA drive, however the connecters seem to be more vertical and not horizontal, meaning I cant plug the drive into one of my drive caddies to test the drive that way, or even to recover some data, if the drive is truly bad (or just the master boot sector).

I have read that the BIOS on this particular machine may not provide the self test and that the BIOS would need to be flashed, however I am not sure how to do this with the Windows EXE that HP provided, if I cant get it to boot

Has anyone seen anything like this before...? I have some a lot of HDD issues, but not one like this, at least not with this kind of SATA connection that isnt your "general" SATA connection.

Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks all!

I can't figure out how to get into the bios of my HP Pavilion 500-314. When I boot the pc there is no screen that indicates what key I press to boot into bios, it just automatically goes into the HP loading screen.

A:How to boot up into the BIOS of HP Pavilion 500-314

Hi: Normally, you can tap the ESC key at the beginning of the HP splash screen to get a menu of options. From that list, select the F10 boot options menu. If that doesn't work, then see if you can get into the BIOS using the method described at the link below. Watch the video.  All brand PC's with W8.1 have this feature. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZcYbxOcPV0 If that doesn't work, unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions to offer.

I have an HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook that will not boot. It was left unplugged for several months because I don't use it very much. I am getting ready for a vacation and usually take it along but when I plugged it in to update the OS it started downloading and installing updates then shut down and now goes into a loop. Tries to boot, gets as far as loading the desktop then black screen and then starts reboot again.
It has the original bios version F.34. everything there looks good. Ran HD self test from bios then memory test. Everything checks out ok. Factory OS was Vista but is now running 7 Ultimate 64bit.
If I try to boot in safe mode with networking I get a BSOD. Safe mode will boot. Safe mode with command prompt will boot.
Any suggestions?

If you are able to see the Safe Mode options you are in the Advanced Boot Options.  One of the options there is Repair Your Computer.  Run this and see if it can resolve this issue.
What is the make and model of this computer?

Hi,I have ongoing issues with my HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-P287SA, Windows 10.  Yesterday it would not boot, instead it flashed the caps-lock LED at me once which I beleive is a CPU issue. I did a hard reset on it (took the battery out ect.) and it booted and worked normally all day. This moring it again won't boot again but this time it beeps twice, waits a few seconds and then beeps twice again, five tinmes in total, and then it flashes the caps-lock LED twice, waits, and then twice again. It won't boot at all, even after a hard reset.  What does the beeping mean, what is the problem here?
