I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello There,I also facing the same problems, I will just add more into that as follow: System: W700OS:         Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit)Audio:      Conexant 20561 SmartAudio HD (Version 4.92.12.0 Dated: 10/6/2009) When I restart computer and loginto Skype first call is ok than second call mic volume is dramatically decreases and finally no mic.I when to windows control panel to further investigate the issue, and chose to setup microphone in speech recognition, it does not listen (it does detect the microphone but can't listen) after few tries it works. Than i googled my problem and got this answer from Lenovo ( http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=migr-70595  ) Where it says:Conexant Audio Driver for Windows Vista (32-bit, 64-bit)Version:4.92.13.0/3.64.12.0Release Date:2010/05/18 And it states the fixes about following: Version 4.92.13.0 (Vista) / 3.64.12.0 (XP)(Fix) Corrected an description of Operating Systems in this README document.(Fix) Fixed an issue where the audio mic became disabled when starting Skype on Windows XP.(Fix) Phantom Speakers/3D Immersion in Smart EQ/3D Settings page were removed on ThinkPad X200, X200s. Now i think Lenovo should do some thing about it.

Hello!

Today i bought Lenovo IdeaPad G50-70. Everything went ok, but then, when I wanted to call my friend via Skype I realize my microphone isn't working. I checked all forums, tried everything still not working. I thought ok, I will input my microphone( I have one ), but this laptop only has 1 connector. Or you connect headphones or microphone, you can't both. I need to have headphones tho.
And now I am sad. I installed and reinstalled driver already too. What should I do?
 Anybody got any solution?
The operation system is Win7 64 bit.

Thanks, Tilen

Hi hope someone can help. New L460 (20FV) all working well, all updates done via Lenovo and I went this morning to use the webcam and mic for the first time. The mic is not picking up sound, suffice to say I have tried every fix possible via Lenovo or MS forums to no avail over the last 5 hours. Too many to list so could you guys please throw every fix you know at me in the hope that I have not tried one. I have tried diagnostics also via Lenovo and nothing is showing as wrong. As I said all updates, drivers etc installed correctly via Lenovo and the system is running Win10. Recently received my U400 and the microphone worked great. However, at some point during a Skype call, my partner could not hear me very well and was only able to hear static on my end.

I checked my sound setting and under the "Recording" tab, the Conexant Internal Microphone was very active and "loud" (as if I was constantly talking). I went under properties and checked "Listen to this device" and all I could hear was static. I tried talking but couldn't hear myself. Lowering microphone level didn't seem to change the amount of static I hear from my microphone. I turned off mic boosts and enhancements, but it didn't change static.

Internal microphone is set as default device. Stereo mix is similarly active and loud. Driver version is 8.54.19.0. (up to date). Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Tried uninstalling driver and letting Windows install a new driver, but problem persisted. Pretty much can't use microphone to record, but it shows that it is active and is receiving a lot of sound somehow.

What should I do?

A:Lenovo U400 Conexant Internal Microphone Receives Static Input

The first thing to do, since you let Windows install a sound driver, is to reinstall the Lenovo supplied sound driver. Non-Vendor supplied sound drivers usually either do not work or do not work correctly, including the windows installed generic HD audio codec driver.

Well, the audio is horrible and i can't find an EQ for it anywhere. There's lots of fuzzy noise and there's hardly any bass. There are random volume changes when listening to music, particularly in areas of the music where more instruments come in, as if the audio drivers are trying to sort out all the frequencies. I want to improve it, or even get rid of it altogether. Is there a way to improve this soundcard and drivers? If not, can someone recommend a small and cheap, but effective USB sound card that would be good for listening to music? Thank you!

Hi there,I've been having some problems over the past few weeks with my Conexant SmartAudio HD (CX20722) in my Dell Inspiron 13 7359.  Generally, my sound works fine after a complete shutdown has occurred.  If I restart my computer after that, no sound comes out of the speakers.  When I open the Dell Audio utility in the taskbar and click the speaker button, it APPEARS to be playing.  There are no error messages whatsoever, but yet no sound comes out.  When I open Windows Volume Mixer and click the speaker levels, it appears that sound is being played, but yet nothing is heard.  There is never any error message.
This problem surfaced when I installed a clean version of Windows 10 Pro in late August.  Since then I have installed Windows 10 twice again with the same problems.  Things I have tried:1.  Using different Conexant Driver Releases - all drivers yield the same results (tried all 4)
2.  Installing Microsoft's generic HD Audio Driver
3.  Limiting the available memory to 3072 - actually I haven't tried this, and WHY WOULD I?  This is not an acceptable workaround.
4.  Disabling Audio Enhancements - no effect.
5.  SFC /scannow - nothing happened.
6.  Changing default Audio Formats (Sample rates/bit depths)
7.  Connecting Headphones or speakers - no effect.
Again, this problem resembles a common Conexant Audio Driver issue that has been rolling around internet forums since Window... Read more

I've got a vestigial SmartAudio Control Panel applet that I haven't found a way to get rid of. I don't see any *.cpl that would fit the bill in windows\system32. The machine has a Realtech card so the conexant are unneeded.

I ran the uninstaller for the whole Conexant thing twice. Both times it said it succeeded and both times it remained in appwiz after a reboot. I then ran a "force uninstall" using Geek uninstaller, which I'm not convinced did much more than remove the appwiz entry.

So now I'm stuck with this applet. I found a conexant service I disabled, but that did nothing.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Only after installing Win7 Ultimate x64 on my HP dv9620us did I discover HP, apparently fulfilling their Total Care credo (total care for HP via built in obsolescence), isn't supporting Win7 on this model.

So, I installed the drivers provided by HP for Vista x64 for this model, and the NVidia drivers directly from their site. But I can't get any drivers for the Conexant Hi Def SmartAudio HD2 to work. First of all, and strangely, my machine doesn't seem to recognize the Hermosa driver -- it says it can't find any device for the driver. So, then, I actually found what seems the driver from Microsoft (Microsoft Update Catalog). I put the AMD x64 drivers in a folder on my desktop. But, when I try to install this driver, I get this message:

"Windows was unable to install your Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus. Windows could not find drivers for your device."

Why isn't this working?! I'm totally without any and all sound, which is really a problem.

Any informed guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!

I've had issues with Conexant's software and drivers since I got my X1 Yoga 2nd Gen. Those drivers seems to be buggy and crash for no reason. And along the the Dolby software are forced into the user's system (there is no friendly way to disable it) and they usually eat CPU and RAM for no good reason. All the time, even with a "beep" from a notification.   That's besides the point that seems pointless to use Dolby with X1's speakers and they doesn't work with Bluetooth headphones (Who does use cables anymore???). A flagship professional laptop shouldn't have to include this kind of hardware or software. At all.  But you can't remove this software, at least not easily. Even if you delete the device with it's software, next time Windows checks for update, it gets back to live, with all it's services and processes running. Finally I got tired of all the crashes and put some effort into fixing this. The default "High Definition Audio" driver included in Windows 10 works just fine. So I forced Windows into using that driver and removed everything else. It's been a couple of weeks now. And as you can see from the screenshot, except Edge crashing one time, I have had no more issues with it. Audio is working just fine and without eating CPU. I'm posting the steps in case it helps somebody with the same issue. Steps:Switched Windows to airplane mode.Uninstalled all audio and sound devices deleting the software.Uninstalled remainin... The portable is: "Satellite Pro P300 PSPC5E".
The sound card is: "Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221"
The operating system is: "XP"
The sound driver instaled is: "Conexant HD Audio version 3.47.1.50" (The only one offered by Toshiba in the drivers downloads page) (comes in the zip file: "sound-20081014174616.zip". Once installed the driver file reported is: "CONEXANT\CNXT_AUDIO_HDA\UIU32a.exe")

The problem is that this driver works slowly with the software program for music production "Cubase 5" from Steinberg.
Steinberg recommends the use of an ASIO Driver for better functioning of Cubase 5.

Then, the QUESTION is: "Where can I find, if it exist, an ASIO Driver for the Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221 to install in the Toshiba P300 with XP OS?"

In the page of Conexant there is no option for asking.

Thanks in advance.

I am pretty sure Toshiba doesn?t support such stuff and with this issue you are on your own.

One other thing: Satellite P300 is designed for Windows Vista and it would be interesting to know if there is some difference if you run this under Vista.
Has Steinberg Vista version for "Cubase 5"?

They have best experience with own product and I am pretty sure they can help you with this. If they recommend something they should know where to find it. Recommendation is based on tested driver. So ask them where to find this driver.

Hi,

I finally setup unofficial my Qosmio X500-140 under Windows XP with all needed driver for this chipset and others build in hardware's
and works all properly. But by the next restart, in the device manager, is the "Conexant 20585 SmartAudio HD" not listed under audio device anymore. To get the sound work back again, have to disable in the device manager the "Microsoft UAA bus driver for high definition Audio" and enable it. Right after the "Conexant 20585 SmartAudio HD" it appears in the audio device again and the sounds working again.

By the way I have two entry of the "Microsoft UAA bus driver for high definition Audio". The first one is responsible for the nVidia high definition audio, the second entry is for the "Conexant 20585 SmartAudio HD".

This is the crazed way to get the sound chip to work under Windows XP. Any Ideas why the Windows XP system does not automatically initial the conexant audio drivers?

Hello,

I own a laptop (Presario CQ56) and have been using Skype constantly for about a year with its internal microphone without an issue. After obtaining an automatic Windows 7 update a couple of days ago, my internal microphone stopped working. The microphone is still detected, enabled, but isn't picking up any input whatsoever. However, there is low static, but it's very constant, and isn't changed by input whatsoever. Here are the things I've tried:

-Restarting
-System Restore to before the update, then disabling automatic updates so I no longer have it
-Running the computer's find and fix audio recording software which claimed that there was no issue
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers without restart (with driver updates automatically through the computer's find and fix audio recording problems)
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers with restart (with driver updates automatically through the computer's find and fix audio recording problems)
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers with restart (through the official site's driver updates)

I do not own an external microphone, and I am hoping that I don't have to get one. That being said, that also means that I can't be entirely sure whether it's software or hardware based.

I hope that one of you can help me. I've done a lot of internet scouring and Google-ing and have run out of things to try; I've been at it for about 5 hours so far.

Thank you in advance.

A:Internal Microphone Suddenly Not Working After Windows Update

I would do a system restore to before it did the updates and see if it resolves the issue. Click start, programs, accessories, system tools, then system restore. Choose the date before the problem started happening and let it restore. See if the mic works after that. If it asks to do updates again and by chance you know what one caused the problem; then just dont download it. And to solve that from happening i would change the windows update settings to only download but let me choose when to install. EDIT: nevermind the system restore I just saw you already did that. In the end though i would just completely uninstall the device itself; remove it from device manager completely; and let windows hopefully re-detect it correctly.

Hi,

I've searched your forums for this (and exhausted Google several times), and haven't quite found a response to it.

I have a Thinkpad (Lenovo R61, if that helps at all), and am coming to terms with this frustrating device known as the internal microphone.

Basically, all I want is to turn if off. Disable it. Be done with the wretched thing.

I use SoundCapture to record audio sometimes from websites (nothing heinous, just soundbytes to help with my studies). It works fine on my desktop computer, but this internal mic on my laptop is playing havoc with it. (Every time I try to record something, it merely becomes a muffled background noise, and in the foreground there is only the recordings that the microphone has picked up.)

I have tried going to Control Panel > Sound & Audio Devices and playing with the Audio and Voice options there (such as turning the volume down on both Sound and Audio Recording options). However, after doing that, I still could not get SoundCapture to successfully record any sound coming from the computer (or any alternative recording programs, for that matter). Also, now when I try and use a sound capturing program, the only 'source' I have available to select is Microphone.

I'm sure I'm probably doing something wrong; I don't claim to be a whizz with computers. But it's very frustrating all the same.

Any help would be lovely, either with turning this bloody internal mic off, or figuring out just w... Read more

Hi vinnyspice,

According to Dell's website, this laptop's drivers are only for Windows Vista. You contact Dell and see if there is any update available.

In the meantime, try downloading and installing the chipset driver and the sound card driver for Windows Vista and see if the issue can be resolved. You can download

Also, run Windows Update to see if it helps.

I purchased the YOGA 710 for an online program requiring bi-weekly virtual classroom sessions and have been very disappointed with the fan and microphone locations on this notebook. Not only is the fan noisy like many others have complained of, but the fan is almost constantly running and blows DIRECTLY into the microphone and overrides any other noise input. My voice cannot be heard by others when using my microphone due to the overpowering "wind tunnel" sound effect created by the fan blowing into the microphone. I've had to slide a piece of paper of some sort between the fan and the microphone to prevent the overbearing noise, although it doesn't totally eliminate the issue. Has Lenovo acknowledged this poor engineering mistake? Are there any solutions or offers for a potential external microphone replacement/alternative for customers? I'm a bit disappointed that the poor design doesn't allow me to utilize the notebook for the sole purpose intended. Any help or advice is appreciated. It would be nice for Lenovo to have a customer support e-mail contact as a less-urgent alternative to their live chat option...

I am an American living in Taiwan. Back in September, I bought a brand new Dell Inspiron 13z laptop. (Note: I don't think the 13z is available in the US market)
It doesn't look like there is even support for the 13z because the model is not listed in the support products page.
Anyways, here is the problem. From the very first day when I took the laptop home, during startup, this warning pops up which says "Failed to create Conexant Audio Factory, The SmartAudio will now exit".
I looked around on the Dell support site for a solution. I found this driver which says it fixes the error "- SmartAudio error message pop up after reboot and said "Failed to create Conexant Audio Factory. The SmartAudio will now exit": http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R306124&formatcnt=0&libid=0&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=461550
The driver is for the 14z laptop, but I figured it'd work for my 13z also. I installed it and sure enough it fixed the problem.
But yesterday, all of a sudden the problem came back from out of nowhere! It just started happening again for no reason.
I have attached a picture of the error message.
Please can someone help me?! I am extremely frustrated and desperate right now.

Our apologies that you have not received a response from our Audio users. Read through this to see if it helps. You might want to post on the Windows 10 Forum board to get help from other Windows 10 users.

Hi, Please try (a) Right click speaker icon,(b) Select Recording devices,(c) Enable Microphone and keep it as default. You may have to set it up under Skype. Regards.

My internal microphone has stopped working. I have a ThinkPad x201i, running Windows 7, 64 bits. Both  the motherboard and the mic have been replaced. Everytime the mic works when I get my laptop back, but a few hours or a day later it stops working again. I downlowded the latest dirver.  I deleted and let Windows reinstall the driver.  Any idea what to do?Thanks!

Check the Mixer/Audio settings whether Mic is turned on.

Depending on the used software it might happen, that it disables the microphone while ending the program (Skype, ICQ etc.)

Hello everyone, So today I recieved my laptop back from repairs, I had a faulty Wifi adapter and they fixed this by completely replacing the motherboard and the wifi adapter and wiping my data. Now while that is a minor inconvenience, the bigger problem is that my internal microphone does not work at all.Windows shows it working, but it does not pick up sound at all, not in settings, not in skype and not after reinstalling my complete OS, now this sounds like they did not connect the microphone when replacing my MB.  I do not want to send my laptop back, so does anyone here know how to fix the mic without having to send it back, I tried every single software solution for my microphone, I have six years of IT epxerience. Kind regards, Coldfreeze

After windows update i suddenly noticed that the internal microphone was not working. After reading numerous forums and other online articles i failed to get a solution. After a while i thought of uninstalling the last update i received which is "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3163018)". As soon as i did this and after restarting my laptop the microphone was working perfectly fine. But again after a day the update automatically installed and the internal microphone problem started again. Pleas help me with a permanent solution as i cant keep on uninstalling this particular update time and again. As this is a security update from windows i am not able to disable the update.Help!Thank you.

First off , thanks for having this forum to help us with our issues!

I just purchased Aspire 5733z, 8 MB Ram, Windows7, 64 Bit Notebook!
I have been setting it up a little each day.
The Built-in MICROPHONE does not work when making phone calls using Yahoo or even magic jack. After the first day of purchase it starting making a high pitch noise and so I turned decip down. I played with it for the next few days and well still no one can hear me on the other end.
Where is the Microphone located and is there something covering it when bought new that I need to remove?
Thanks guys!
P.S. I use a USB hub since I have several items that need to be connected to the PC.

A:Microphone Internal Not working!

To check your internal microphone is working use the windows sound recorder..... start, all programs, accessories, entertainment, sound recorder. Make a recording and check it records and plays back. If this works your internal mic is OK and I would start looking at a Yahoo driver or settings problem instead. From memory, the microphone is a small hole on the lid adjacent to the webcam.

Hello

I recently reinstalled Win 7 on my HP Probook 4530s, and have encountered a few problems since.
The latest is that the internal microphone does not seem to be functioning at all through any programs that would use it (Skype, sound recorder etc).

It does appear in the audio devices control panel but not in device manager (although I don't know that it should?), and it says its working correctly but obviously this is not so!

Additionally, the sound was behaving erratically as well - it often will not work unless I click the test button on the speaker properties page. If I leave the computer for any length of time I have to repeat this.

I have downloaded the only audio driver that is listed here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...Id=5060880&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4058 but this does not seem to have any effect.

Anybody have any ideas?

Do you see it in recording devices in this generic laptop? Is it set to default? You say Windows shows it working so it must be connected.
