I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello rmths,
Found this, i am not into burning discs but this may point you in the right direction.
Hope it helps. Good luck and post your results, thanks.

In Media Center, you can only create a video DVD by using a recorded TV show when the broadcast type matches the region that you have selected in Media Center.

Also have you looked at your codec pack ?.

I had been recording cartoon shows off and on for my godson to watch. In February, I started getting errors and every attempt to burn a video DVD aborts. At first I thought maybe I had some bad DVD+R media, but I am able to burn other things to DVD outside of Media Center. I can burn data DVDs, but fail on video DVDs.

Here is what happens: In Media Center, I select the episodes of recorded TV shows that I want to burn to DVD. The process starts normally, indicating that it may take "several hours" to finish. After about an hour or so, at around 25% completion, I hear the DVD burner spin up like it is going to start burning the DV. After a few (less than ten) seconds, it stops and ejects the disk. In Media Center, an error comes up saying: "BURN FAILURE, An error has occurred in burning the CD/DVD." There is no further info nor error codes. It appears that something does get burned to the disk during those few seconds, because the system will no longer recognize the disk and it must be trashed.

I am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit on an HP system with a quad core processor and 4Gb of RAM. So far, I have tried all the tips that I can find for similar problems (install CODECs, reregistering DLL files, etc.), but nothing helps. I even went so far as to use the original system restore disks to wipe out the computer entirely and reinstall Vista, then let it do all updates (through SP2). Lots of things work better, but this one problem per... Read more

I always use my Media Center with a TV tuner to record my favorite shows. About a week ago I had to reformat my computer and now I am unable to fast forward/rewind live tv or fast forward/rewind recorded tv shows that are on my hard drive when watching them in Media Center. Prior to the reformat, I was able to do both these tasks. The fast forward/rewind option doesn't work on Windows Media Player either, but I can drag the "status bar" to proceed through the TV show. What's the deal?

I've had Windows Media Center on my Dell XPS410 machine running Vista Home Premium for the last two years. I used to be able to burn DVD's of recorded programs in Media Center with no problem, until about a month ago. Now whenever I try to burn the DVD's of a program, I get get the following error messages:
"Burn failure - an error has occurred in burning the CD/DVD" This message pops up in Media Center.
Then when I exit Media Center, I get the following message: "SBEServer has stopped working". I don't know what SBEServer means.

I did have to perform an In-Place Upgrade of Vista Home Premium (with help of Microsoft Vista technical support) prior to this issue because my system would not download Windows Upgrades.

I am able to burn data and photo files in other programs, namely Windows Photo Gallery and Windows DVD Maker, and Roxio. However, the Windows Media Center will not let me burn anymore, which is quite inconvenient.

I am current with all Windows Updates and have tried various fixes such as disabling and removal of the other burner software and this has not resolved the issue.

Hopefully someone can help.
Thanks, Dan

I'm running Vista Premium 64bit and the system has been working great, until now. Media center has randomly deleted recorded shows and I need some help with this one. My settings are tset o keep until space is needed and I have ~98G of HDD space available so that shouldn't be the issue.

Last night I tried to record a new series for the first time and my settings were to keep the latest recordings and set to keep 4 shows. The system recorded the show according to the little red icon on the bottom toolbar but when it was done I checked the Recorded TV menu and it wasn't there. Then I checked the history and it stated the show recorded and then was deleted and I didn't do anything. HELP!

Any ideas? Any? Bueller???...

My next problem is getting to watch live or recorded shows on my TVs. I know I can get Xbox 360s as extenders, but I'd rather not spend the money if there are ways I can just somehow do it on my smart TVs. Is there anyway to use my Samsung TVs as extenders so I can just use them to watch live or recorded TVs from the tuner?

Media Center deletes recorded tv shows without using the recycle bin. I would like to set mine up to use the recycle bin in case of inadvertant deletions. Who can tell me how to do this?

In case I can't find an answer to that question; is there a way to get back any recorded tv shows that were inadvertantly deleted?

I have my Recorded TV folder on a separate drive that is not monitored by System Restore because the TV show files are so large that they take up so much room that it makes System Restore not go back very far; making it inadequate.

How do yo convert a recorded TV show from the Windows Media Center Edition format to a format that can be read by a Sony DVD Player?

A:How to convert a Media Center recorded file to a DVD for a DVD player

You do it within the realms of the DMCA, taking account of any "fair usage" laws that apply in your country - and if you live in the UK, it's a grey area even at that.

What's the name of the show, and when did it air? If it's commercially available, I personally would consider such an act to be piracy, which techspot does't help people with in any way shape or form.

I have searched and been unable to find any information about this problem.

When going to the Media Center I sometimes notice that my recording has been broken into two different files.

for example:
When trying to record movie XYZ(120 minute run time) off a cable channel
There will be two(or three recorded files) files labeled XYZ. One with a 20 minute run time and one with a 100 minute run time.(time amounts may vary)

Often when I try to play these broken files(Many times while trying to play a complete file too) my Media Center freezes up and I have to go to the task manager to shut Media Center down. If I try to watch the file again the player will freeze up again.(each time the file is played.)

What causes this and is there any way to correct the problem or repair the files?

Thank you in advance for any help you may give. (And Merry Christmas)

So, seemingly out of the blue, my DMS 2100 extenders no longer play Live TV or Recorded TV from my Silicone Dust Home Run PRIME tuner. I am able to play TV shows from my OTA tuner, just not from the PRIME turner. I get the following message:

Video can not be played.  The format used for this video is not supported on this Media Center Extender.  To view this video, play it directly on your PC.

I'd guess this is something with MS DRM -- but, I wouldn't know what.  I'm running Win 7 Home and everything worked fine until about a week or so ago. I've tried other Extenders and even tried them attached to my other WMC PC.  No luck in

A:dvd disc wont read to burn

Hi mariaw2011, and welcome to TSG.

Have you ever been able to successfully burn DVD+R disc with this particular computer and burner set-up?

If so, were you ever able to successfully burn a DVD+R disc from the package of discs that is now giving you a problem?

What is the brand and model number of the burner?

Some possible causes of the problem may be that you have an older drive and you have a newer, faster blank disc that it can't handle, or the DVD portion of the drive has gone bad. Separate laser pickups are used for CDs and DVD and the DVD one could have failed on your unit.

So, I haven't had any problems before, but now I just don't know what's happening. Let's say I take a few songs and try to burn them onto a blank Memorex CD-R disc. Once all files were burned to the disc, I could listen to it anywhere. But now, I can't unless the radio/CD player has the MP3 capability. On my old boombox, it skips the songs, until it just stops. But when I put the CD onto a computer or my dad's CD player, it works fine. How can I make it work everywhere else?

By the way, didn't know where exactly to post this, which is why I posted it here.

A:Burn a video file to VCD disc

It's been a while since I messed around with Video CD's.  If that is what you are trying to do, the video has to be encoded in the correct format for VCD which is a specific type of MPEG-1. I used to use software called TMPGEnc to do this.  And you have to use burning software that supports the VCD format, such as Nero.  There is a bit more info on the VCD format here.

It has an oem product key but...it only comes with a recovery cd from toshiba which is atcually just a norton ghost of the factory config. No windows mce 05 disc. Is there any way i can get my hands on a free copy of it legally? The reason i mention free is because I already own the oem product key and there should be no reason to get another one. Just want the setup disc this way should disaster strike and windows goes on the fritz, i dont have to just surrender to the recovery disc. I can atcually attempt to repair the machine. Is there any way i can get even just an iso of it and burn it? I just want the setup disc incase the need arises for operating system repairs. If you could tell me if its possible let me know.

Hi all,
After seeing a post from around a year ago about recovering Windows XP Media Center Edition, I feel compelled to ask a question related to that.
As you can see from my profile, I bought an HP Media Center Edition 2005 PC. Now, it came with a recovery partition, yes. What I want to know is how to create XP recovery discs from my current PC in case something fails. This is not to be differentiated from the HP Recovery Discs that I made after getting the computer - those do not have the XP operating system ONLY, they only give you the option to reformat your computer and restore it to "factory condition" - which is not what I want to do. What I want to do is to create operating system recovery discs which I can use to repair/reinstall Windows XP Media Center. I tried calling up HP to ask them for it, however they said that they no longer give out OS discs, only "recovery" discs.

Thank you for your help.

After I have selected a "Playlist" it starts to burn it then stops and says it cant finish process.

Nothing worked.
Finally was told to try Itunes.
It would only transfer a 1/4 of the music. It burned a disc from that just fine so my hardware is working.
I think that Windows has protected the rest of the music that would not transfer.
How do I get around that?

Downloading music is illegal, but, purely educational purposes... You could import the music into an iTunes playlistand try burning it (the playlist) with iTunes. Or, maybe try using a different CD, perhaps that one is defective. If you don't have iTunes, you can download it for free from Apple's Website, it's a great media manager. http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Greetings,

I have an external TV Tuner (Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-950q) and I have been recording some TV programs with it into Windows Media Centre (I have Windows Vista) consistently for a month now. For a couple weeks I was able to burn the recordings on a DvD with no problem, but now when I get to the "Review and Edit List" which used to show which recording I was burning, the list is blank and I can't go any further. I've tried clicking "Add More" and selecting the recording from "Recorded TV" - but I can't select any of my Manual Recordings, even though they do show up on this page.

My problem doesn't appear to be with the tuner -- my recordings do show up in Media Centre and I can play them, etc. The first difference I saw right before I noticed the problem was that there is no longer a still screenshot as the icon for my recordings (including the ones recorded prior to the problem) just the name.

That's the best I can do for a description -- any ideas of what's going on?

sorry if this was previously discussed... but I couldn't find an answer.

A friend of mine has Windows XP Media and he recorded something for me. When he tried burning to a DVD it wouldn't let him due to the "licencing" thing. He was able to record so many movies without ANY issues whatsoever, yet HBO show could not be put on a disk. we ended up saving it on a CD (in its original .dvr-ms format) as a data file. I tried watching it on my PC using WMP, and it STARTS but 10 sec into it it stops and says that the content can only be viewed on the PC that originally recorded it.

I have a file converter software but even that didn't work because of.... yes, you got it; licencing issue.

Is there ANY way around this?? All I want to do is be able to watch this on my PC (and not have to watch it on the computer that was used to record it).

THANKS!

I don't think you are going to get much help here on bypassing or removing the ""licencing thing" Such discussions on circumventing DRM are against TSG Rules.

Hi, I'm trying to install windows XP media center 2005 on a new hard drive i just bought. When I first went in to format the hard drive it said that I had to have a Home Edition XP disc. So I put one in there to format it. Now when I try to put XP Media Center in to install it, it trys to install it as home edition. This wouldn't be a problem except the serial number on my computer is for Media Center. I've reformatted it with the Media Center disc but that didn't help it still trys to install as Home edition. I've reformatted a computer many times, I can't figure out what is wrong.

I've also tried deleting the partition and making a new one with the Media center CD, it just tells me to use the Home Edition CD instead.

Thanks.

Hi, I recently built a friend of mine a computer, I will post the specs upon request. Upon first building the computer it would get overheated after a couple of hours of gameplay, so we got another heatsink, and after installing it the computer would overheat after about 3 minutes without the components even getting remotely hot. So i assumed it must be a seating issue and I re-seated everything and then it worked fine. Now whenever we try and log into WinXP Media Center, after the windows loading screen, it just goes black and stays there. The mouse can still be moved, but the screen is black.

We've read other place that said to try booting from safe mode and reseating the video card, neither of those work, and as a result we cant update drivers.

Heres the weird part.
The computer is partitioned into Win XP home and Win XP Media. When home is selected upon computer start up, it works completely fine. No black screen. So I fail to see how it can be a video problem if it works in one OS but not the other.

We've tried just wiping the computer with DBan, but that says that there were errors or something and cant complete. We also tried re-entering the Windows CD, but that doesnt work either.

Any suggestions would be a HUGE help.

Looks like the issue was solved in a Windows service pack, are you fully up to date using windows update?

It could be malware related

So I've got vista ultimate and MCE is crap. I've spent hours trying to figure out how to change the input form digital tv antenna to cable tv. I just have basic analog tv. My tuner is the Genietech HDTV Thriller PCI card. When i use the software it came with i can access all the featurs including tv. However i don't like the software it comes with and I like the layout of MCE. Is there anyway of getting MCE to recognize my analog cable tv???
