Q: :P Recycle bin icon somehow got renamed, how to I change it back?

Odd problem cropped up about a week ago. My boyfriend pointed out that the recycle bin has been renamed to "games (1)". I can't just rename it back either so I've no idea how to fix this. I did try going to the customize desktop feature from display>properties and selecting the restore default option but nothing happens so I'm not sure what else to try.

Preferred Solution: :P Recycle bin icon somehow got renamed, how to I change it back?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So the problem is had a virus called the system check virus and started going through the manual process of getting rid of it. One part of it is making hidden folders, etc accessible and then renaming the virus files so it doesnt recognise them and they stop running. While in there i accidentally changed two of the folders names which had alot of characters so i mistook it for one of the virus files.
I've since learned these are windows folders and needed. was hoping someone could post a screenshot or something showing what these folders are meant to be called so i can change them back.
I know it was a stupid move but any help would be appreiciated... Thanks (hopefully this makes sense)

A:Renamed folders in application data, need to change them back

You must tell us the names of a few files inside or send screen shots of the open folders to see what files are there.

Only after that one would be able to know the names of the Folders in which these files are located in another computer.

It's just a thought, but try viewing hidden & system files to see if there's anything fishy about the drive. Don't panic when you see stuff that you didn't know was there, but if you do see any system files on the root of the drive let us know what they are. Especially if you happen to find a file called "autorun".

Hi all,

I installed BSPlayer, didn't like it, and decided to go back to using Divx player.
I have all the file associations sorted so all my video files run in Divx again, but the icons are still the same as they were for the BSPlayer.

I know its not a really big problem, but its annoying!!

Any help?

I have a folder named Addresses and Tel Numbers in Windows Explorer/Word on Windows 7. Trying to access it I found it has been renamed $Recycle Bin. When I open it it says it is empty but when I tried to delete it it began deleting my addresses. It appears to have added the address folder to the Recycle Bin as there are a lot of other files in there that are not addresses. Can you advise how to get my Address File back - but more importantly how this has occurred. I can find the addresses elsewhere but do not understand how this has happened.

Hello everyone.

I just installed Adobe Creative Suite CS4. Everything turned out fine. But my icon for the Bridge CS4 .exe file is one of those annoying default icons and I want to change it back. There is a Bridge CS4 .ico file in my Bridge folder but I would like to know how to get that into my Bridge .exe file. A simple but somewhat annoying problem. Does anyone know a quick fix? This is the ONLY icon on my entire computer like this. I don't think it's a virus or malware. I scanned using a bunch of programs. It's a legit copy of CS4. It's definately too minor of a problem to go thru a tech support nightmare. I really don't like looking at it on my desktop or start menu.

Do Option 2 of this tutorial SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker it will not harm any data or programs you have installed it will try to find and repair any corrupt system files that you have. You may need to do this up to 3 times with a reboot after each scan.

Then do Icon Cache - Rebuild

Just got a new laptop with Win7 professional about two weeks ago.

All of a sudden, this morning, the network notification icon for the network switched from the wireless-five bars icon to the wired icon with a big red X through it (because I am not connected via wired). When I mouse over the icon it still shows my wireless network name and that I have Internet Access.

I don't know how or why the icon changed, but I would like to change it back to the one showing the wireless bars. I've searched around and can't find anything on how to do that.

Can anyone help with this, please? Thanks!

1) You can go open recycle bin and then empty it. It just takes one more step to accomplish it.

2) If you have ccleaner you can restore or just clean with ccleaner itself. Honestly I've not used recycle bin for over a month.

I had a problem deleting an older version of Firefox. The Firefox Setup .exe file was stuck in the Recycle Bin, it wouldn't delete and it wouldn't restore. Believing that the Recycle Bin was corrupt, I used this method from the DOS prompt:

rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

I refreshed my Desktop and when I clicked on the Recycle Bin. While the file appeared to be missing, the Recycle Bin would not load properly so I restarted my computer.

Now when I click on the Recycle Bin icon, it points to my entire computer (exactly the same as clicking on "Computer" off the Start Menu) instead of the Recycle Bin folder.

How can I restore the Recycle Bin icon so that it shows only the contents of the Recycle Bin?

On fairly new computer with a backup disc - I plugged in my card reader before the back-up one time and then plugged in back-up disc and my computer had now renamed my back-up disc to Local disc H - it was Local Disc G. The Card reader now has been assigned the name Local Disc G. Tried to shut down unplug everything and restart - not using card reader and turning on only back-up disc. This is a problem because all of my files for websites are in back-up disc so all of the pathways are wrong. Is there anyway to get my back-up disc back to Local Disc G? Thanks to anyone who knows what I can do to correct this.

You can use Disk Management to re-assign the drive letters. You'll need to first re-assign H to something else and then assign the other drive to H, then do the other drive to G.

Hello again

Icons sizes change back to details sizes on specific folder

may also be relate to the issue that this user had

Shortcut icons re-sizing randomly

My OS had gone crazy and change icon's sizes back to details sizes in random folders, last time i had that issue i thought it was solved by this method

Icons sizes change back to details sizes on specific folder

But unfortunately it only was temporary, i had to format anyway so the problem was solved after the format and never appeared again till 3 days ago.

it not seem to be a virus but it really annoy, the only thing i done 3 days ago that was extraordinary for me was to edit some video on windows live movie maker + cccp codecs, i rarely use WLMM but happened to use it 3 days ago, and after that the issue reappear, i can't use system restore since i done alot of stuff on my pc and don't want to lose them, and also i don't happened to made restore point before the day the issue occurred and the rest are deleted..so SR is not a option.

anyone know what i can do now?

thanks in advance

Today I wanted to change some explorer and windows icons. But i didnt have access to change the imageres.dll file even after taking ownership of it. So i copied it to the desktop and changed some icons but i couldn't replace the new .dll with the old one neither.
So then i made the decision to rename the .dll to imageresold.dll and after that dragging in the new one(i have done that to explorerframe.dll earlier witout problem).
I could rename it but i still couldn't drag in the new one.

After that i couldn't rename it back to imageres.dll but there was an imageres.dll.backup there so i restarted the computer in hope that the backup would be used or something, if that wouldn't work i would just use sfc /scannow to fix all the system files.

But when I reached the login screen after starting the computer there was no user to log into, just the login wallpaper and the bottons in the corners to shut down /restart etc.

I booted up the installation cd to try to repair it from there but my mouse or keyboard doesn't work in the installation screen(i tried usb 3.0, 2.0 and ps/2 ports).

Is there any way i can log into the computer any other way or open cmd without logging in?

Thanks in advance

Some time back I had some RECYCLE BIN grief when two corrupt files decided never to go away. I've learned to live with it.

During that same time another strange occurence was secondary - my recycle bin icon never changed. It always stayed full. I attributed it to those two files and since I liked seeing an empty bin icon I went into the registry under:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} under default icon and change them all to the empty icon.

And so slept sleeping beauty - until last week when a glitch cause my xpPC to take a dive. And when it came back, the recycle bin icon is now a folder icon with ...like a .... networking picture on it. I check the registry in this location and found that the default icon settings are still intact.

So something else somewhere is causing it to display this new incorrect icon. Probably yet another anomaly that can't be fixed, but if someone has a clue ... I'm all ears !!!

UPDATE: OK... a voice in my head (one of them) told me to try a theme to see if it changed. It did. So then i changed it back to my default which I save long ago and the EMPTY TRASH CAN returned. So far so good. But that means that my PC is setting the decktop recycle bin icon according to a theme somewhere and not the REGISTRY KEY which is default. Any one know where that information is stored so that I can see it and perhaps change it? Penny for your thoughts!

A:Recycle Bin ICON gone AWOL

I was wondering about some system spec's on your system. One thing that might work and I do not know whether you have it already installed is Service Pack 2, whether you have it installed or not I would suggest either re-installing or installing it. It might just fix the recyclebin.
